  1. We usually play Green Bay well... Im hoping they build off the Vikings and learned some things that they can take into this game. After that game I have some confidence in them being able to beat anyone at this point. It's only been 3 weeks so hey we never know they might give us another show.

This is not true. The play was a forward pass by definition. It is a forward pass (a) if the ball initially moves forward to a point nearer the opponents goal line after leaving the passers hand(s). (b) The ball first strikes the ground , a player or anything else at a point that is nearer the opponents goal line than the point at which it leaves the passers hands. Note : a ball that is intentionally fumbled and goes forward is a forward pass.

That is the definition of a forward pass as stated in NFL rules section 8 section 1 article 1 a and b. There is no mention of one foot anywhere . It is clear that the officials blew the call.

This... Even the Ex Ref rules expert they have come on to explain certain calls said it was a bad call.

  3. I think he's really trying to say that the team is still trying to gel... They aren't age wise young but if you look at how many new faces are starting this year it's a young team in that sense. Just the lack of experience playing together.

I'm taking it as these guys are still learning to be a team. They're learning where everyone on the team fits in it's hierarchy... The improvement we've seen could be a result of people starting to settle into their roles on the team.

If you look at the guys the team lost... it was a lot of leadership that retired or left this off season. On offense they lost guys like Taylor, Wood, Incognito, Glenn on offense. Those guys probably handled a lot of the leadership responsibilities on that side of the ball. Then on defense we lost Preston Brown and EJ Gaines.

Then what do we have that replaced those voids? Peterman and Allen for our QBs and that's a no brainer leadership role right? A key position that a team looks to for leadership. Then you have Bodine and Groy trying to settle into an area that Wood had locked down for years. It's pretty common knowledge that Wood was a leader on that line. It's also important imo to consider how having a guy with say Incognitos attitude on that line may have elevated their play. He's gone now so some of that o lines swagger may have left with him. That's the stuff you don't see in the stats and numbers...

Then on defense you have Edmunds trying to fill the shoes of Preston Brown... He has to QB the defense from that position and he's a fricken rookie. I think just being a rookie is tough enough but now you also have the responsibility of calling the defense? You have Star and Murphy as newcomers to the D line. Once again that line is going to need to learn together and gel as a unit. The defense wasnt hit as hard as the offense but it did lose some pieces.

So when I look at it like that.  Taking into consideration all the new faces and lost pieces I can see what he thinks hes saying as far as them being a young team and progressing. Theyre still learning communicate and play as teammates. Learn one another's strengths and weaknesses... All that stuff that goes into building good chemistry.  Figuring out who the leaders are now. Who's amping everyone up when they're feeling down or deflated. Who has the veteran presence and game knowledge to pass on.

The good news is it seems like it's all starting to click. They're getting it sorted out. We didn't come out of the pre season in full form and that's pretty obvious at this point. They needed those first 6 quarters to continue to grow as a unit on both sides of the ball. I think they're going to keep improving... I don't think we've seen the best of this roster yet.

  4. I never want them to lose... My Sunday is wrecked when they lose bad like they did the first two weeks. Now if it's like week 14 and they only have one or two wins and are genuinely in the hunt for the top pick the I'm not gonna lie I'd rather they take the Ls and get the pick.

At week 3 at 1-2 no way... I'm still optimistic they can win games. Honestly I think it's even premature to say they're going to be horrid all year. They just went and beat down a talented Vikings team in their own place. You don't do that with a horrible team looking to lose out. So I'm looking forward to next week. We get to make an assessment was the Vikings a fluke win or is this team better than we are crediting them for?

    Not great.

The Bills (and the fans) also got to decide on Miller, Groy, Mills and Newhouse all of which are FAs themselves.

Some tough decisions going forward on the OL.

Oh that's just peachy I didn't know all those guys are hitting FA... Well I guess we can take some solace in the fact that they are going to be forced to address the line this off season.

  6. I think the switch to Bodine helped. Add on the fact that they're getting more reps together to include Allen at QB I think is helping too... Lines are like that they need some time to gel.

Definitely a better performance yesterday than we've been subjected to the previous weeks. The ball was coming out quicker I think the game plan was altered by Daboll to speed things up in the passing game. That's totally ok with me. At least he recognized he needed to change up his offense to suit the abilities of our lineman.

The only real knock was as others have stated the running game wasn't stellar. So they still need a lot of work maybe they just need some better talent. It's week 3 there's plenty of ball left to be played so I'm just going to watch and see if they can keep building on what they do right week to week. Who knows maybe they aren't bad at all when it's all said and done.

  7. I think he's the reason we didn't see the blown protection this game. He may not be an all pro center but he does have years of experience as a starting Center and I have to imagine that helps Allen.

From what I understand it's pretty common for the Center and QB to work out the lines blocks together so I'm thinking just his experience in Allen's ear at the line helped a lot. Groy just doesn't have that experience level playing center.

I'm hoping he's alright does anyone know the status of his injury?

  8. I'll tell you what these guys have been failing Allen over and over again on his deep passes... Foster has had what like 3 solid deep passes sent his way that he hasn't grabbed. It's frustrating to see it because those big chunks of yardage like that can swing momentum. These guys need to start hauling in these fricken passes!

Benjamin just looks like he doesn't even care... Idk how much longer McDermott allows him to half ass it out there. It's getting to a point I'd think where he has to say ya know what let me put someone out there who wants to be out there balling.

  9. Yeah man as it stands we still need improvement on the line... They still can't run block. If the run blocking was better we would've continued to March down the field in the 2nd half at will...

So if they address it then we can hopefully have a nice run game in the arsenal. As great a win as it was today we have to keep in mind all the turnovers we came away with...

And I know it's stupid to play the well if this didn't happen or that game... But if we didn't get those turnovers early in the game and hang that lead on them this game could've been a bit uglier.

Who knows maybe the O line continues to improve I hope they do... Hopefully our WRs remember how to actually catch the ball too that'd be just peachy.

I don't wanna gripe about much they played a helluva game but as others have stated the run blocking is still lacking.

  10. Finally they played some good football...

The defense was lights out today. Hughes was living back there with Cousins. The line as a unit was getting great pressure all game. That guy Reiff where Hughes had that man's number all game...

Tre White is a bonafide stud. The secondary really benefitted from the front 7 dominating Minnesota's O line. That strong play up front trickled back into the secondary. Also seems Frazier was calling the D so maybe he's salvageable. His defense played awesome today. Let's hope they can keep it up... We definitely look like a different team when they're playing good. Seems like Edmunds learned a lot last week as I didn't see him really make any big mistakes this game either.

Idk what happened as far as our O line goes they played much better this week. Maybe Allen and Bodine did a better job setting up his pass pro... I didn't see many omgwtf why wasn't that block picked up moments this game. Major improvement. I'm hoping those guys get better every week as they get more games in together as a unit.

Our QB is learning hes progressing and that's great for us. They got themselves a damn good QB. I saw major improvement with his reads, he kept himself protected, and man he had some nice throws. He can only get better imo

The only blight was the WRs... Idk WTH is going on with Benjamin he needs to start pine tarring his hands or something. It's kinda becoming a thing with him the dropped passes. Same with the other guys too Jones, Clay, and Foster have all dropped passes that were right in their hands.  Hopefully McDermott gets onto the WRs about the drops it's become a common theme though 3 weeks of ball now.

Penalties we're cleaned up. Another major plus because those were getting us too. Seems they've tightened that up this week and that's proof the coaches are doing their job.

Special teams look we had the same situation as last week the ball lands inside the 5... We downed it. So that was nice to see that. Also the special teams was playing pretty well all game. We had some nice field position throughout the game.

Overall a big win for us. Man we needed it. I wasn't expecting them to win but I did expect a tough game. I didn't think they'd just roll over after two bad weeks of ball and press. I was hoping they'd take the field with chips on their shoulders and want to shut some of the criticism they've taken so far down a notch. They did too... They shut the whole Vikings fanbase up along with it haha.

Awesome game really encouraging. Definitely gives me hope that this season isn't going to be as horrible as those first two weeks left me to believe. If this team keeps learning and progressing together whew look out. I'm just going to enjoy this W and hope for the best!  Thank you to the Bills for making my Sunday.

  11. I'd like to see... Our WRs produce for Allen. They've been so bad.

Charles Clay where ya been buddy?

Edmunds improve on his play recognition all the things Rivers did to him needs to be better.

Allen just show progress. Better setup on his protection. Better progression through his reads. Come out of the game unscathed.

Oline... Hopefully they show something that makes us feel like they'll improve as the season goes on. Open up some holes for Ivory and Murphy.

Will feel nice of Ivory and Murphy can get something going in the run game. Then hopefully the line doesn't get stupid penalties...

Oh yeah penalties... There needs to be some serious improvement in that area as well.

I don't see us getting blown out this game. I think these guys get it together for this game and give us a decent game to watch. The first two weeks have been so bad they have to have a chip on their shoulders for this one...

that's what he was in Buffalo, scared to throw the ball unless his target was totally open, not a shred of the concept of throwing the ball to where the target is going to be 30 yards downfield

that skill a boy starts to perfect when he's 6 years old

I think most people who've played football heck even street ball as the all time QB or whatever have a feel for that. You don't hesitate you just send that sucker when you feel it and it's just a split second that feeling and then it's gone... Then you've hesitated and it's too late at that point. I should've been a NFL QB lol *Don's the flame retardant suit*

My first “real” boss told me something many, many years ago when I was promoted to another location. I asked him what he could tell me about my new boss. He thought for a bit and then said “in your career you’ll find that sometimes people show you how to not do things right.” I think we can apply this principle to Allen and the Bills. Josh should watch P-man and learn from him how to not do things. Silver lining?

Yeah haha that works too in a way. My great aunt told me "you don't always have to make the mistakes and learn from them you can let other people do it and watch and learn from them." So yeah that's the silver lining haha definitely don't do whatever my man Nasty Nate has been doing lol

Meaningless to you maybe but there are many who give personal accounts of how their careers were helped by older players in a variety of different ways both on and off the field.  This isn't something unique to professional sports.

Exactly like just life in general... And Joe schmoe can't say they didn't learn certain things faster or better because they were able to go to their elders for guidance. This is just basic human nature man. We learn from those people who've been through it and struggled learning stuff before us. Then also we learn from our own mistakes and failures...

So yes a QB can do the baptism by fire and perservere and learn on their own. I concede that... However having someone else to learn from doesn't hurt in any way and honestly I think the positives outweigh the negatives if any...

Just to reel this back in the OP... My thing is we need to keep an eye on this because Beane set the table here... So we are all wondering how this "process" is going if the right moves are being made. To me not having someone here for Allen to help mentor is a bad look. It seems like it's counter intuitive to developing this guy as fast as possible. Then you get into the O line is just bad... The WRs are bad... So I'm just wondering WTH Beane is doing here. It doesn't make sense to me at this point.

    Anyone else remember this?

There is no correlation between success of a QB and having a veteran behind them. This is the NFL not the scouts. I'm sure to a degree it helps, but there are 52 other MEN on the team that can help bring a rookie QB along.

I know that there are plenty of QBs who did benefit from having a vet or a good QB coach or HC too.  That goes both ways. So you can say it isn't always necessary but I still think it's a tool that can and should be used if available.

Especially if you have a putrid O line and Sub par WRs... And the only other guys you have to help steer this RAW talent is a guy who last coached QBs in the 80s for a college team and Nathan Peterman who for all intents and purposes is a rookie himself and a bad one at that...

  16. 10 minutes ago, HappyDays said:

I would bet serious money that there is zero correlation between a QB's success and who their "veteran mentor" is.

So you honestly believe if you were a rookie QB you wouldn't benefit in any positive way by having a guy who has been a rookie, held a clipboard, played a few years as a starting QB, or made a trip to the playoffs?

That's just idk... I know I've been a noobie at things and I had people with experience around me and it was very beneficial to me bettering myself just being able to ask them basic questions about it. When I was a snot nosed recruit in the Army I learned a ton from the senior people. As an air traffic controller I gained a ton of help asking about scenarios and how to handle them from people that had years of experience under their belt and I know for a fact it helped me tremendously just being able to bounce those questions and stuff off them. I could sit around and read the .65 and all the Aviation publications I wanted and it still wasn't equal to what I learned being able to pick the vets brains. That's just me but I think it's still valid in regards to football in a way...

  17. He had himself a game...  I think he's going to get a gut check though once a team draws up a game plan on D for him as the QB. That stuff in the middle of  the field is going to get him some INTs imo. He had some throws that could've easily been picks if the DBs do their job. He likes to gamble and he let's his WRs make plays and that's all good so long as his WRs are winning those contests. He missed a few better passing options too but he'll improve on that every game.

His WRs also did this cool thing called getting separation! It was pretty sweet... ? A lot of his passes it seemed like his WRs had at least 3 to 4 feet between them and the nearest Jet. Even if they are covered if Mayfield thinks his guy has the slightest advantage hes throwing that ball. I could tell he has a lot more faith in his WRs than Tyrod...

His line did their job he seemed to have decent time to get his passes out. I think his trigger happy mentality helps with that too because he doesn't really seem to be put off by tight coverage so he's going to send it without hesitation and that helps the line too. Something they'll never get with Taylor. Like I said his guys aren't always going to win those exchanges but it looks nice when they do.

Basically what I saw was that the Browns have all the tools that we wish Allen had here in Buffalo including our cast off QB depending on how you feel about our QB Coach and Nasty Nate as Allens mentors. Well maybe next year.... Or if we draft in the top 10 for 20 years we'll get there lol

    Doesn't he have a QB Coach ?

Yeah but hes been a WRs coach for most his career. I think his bio on the bills website said he coached QBs from 85-87 at Southwestern Louisiana and that's it as far as that goes...

4 minutes ago, SoCal Deek said:

Last night’s game proved this is all nonsense. Tyrod didn’t mentor Mayfield! Heck, TT never even talks to anyone on the sideline. What you saw was a kid who’s not afraid to THROW THE BALL at the open receiver. It really isn’t rocket science!

Well it's classic Tyrod right? Dumps and  super safe conservative gnash your teeth and pull your hair out QB play.

If Allen can learn to get through his progressions faster and set up his protection he's going to be good. I still think having someone more competent than Peterman and whatever that WRs coachs name is watching film with him would help him get there faster... He can still do it on his own no doubt but I still believe someone with better QB eyes would speed up "the process" some...
