I understand the frustration.  They’ve surrounded him with mediocre talent for years.  And his time is running out.

If you carried a franchise on your back for that long, of course you’d like to feel like you’ve earned a right to at least be spoken with about big personnel moves impacting your career even if your opinion doesn’t sway a decision.

I get it.  Pretend to listen to him to feed his ego then do whatever you were gonna do in the first place.

Until they invent a way to stop the brain from smashing the inside of the skull,  I don't see how different helmets will make that much of a difference.  Seems to me that they are trying to do something just for the appearance of actually doing something.

Does this make anyone think that at some point in the distant future pro football will be played without helmets?  Is this the only way to stop players from using their heads as a weapon?

It's really hard to define a project QB.

Isn't Drew Brees one? He sat for his first year behind Flutie while the Dougster was completing 56.4% of his passes and throwing 15 TDs and 18 INTs. I'd argue Cousins is a terrific example.

    Isn't Romo one?

Is a project QB only a guy who has potential to be near-elite or a top ten guy if he develops? Or is it anyone who is thought to be able to start if he develops? Hard to say.

Favre? Dunno, maybe. The story is bizarre. Take a look:

    https://www.si.com/nfl/2016/10/18/brett-favre-book-jeff-pearlman-atlanta-falcons-green-bay-packers

He certainly wasn't picked to start the first year. Miller was the established starter.

Isn't Brady one? No, nobody called him to be excellent but they thought he might be decent down the line. Isn't that developmental? I think it is, but it's reasonable to disagree.

I think Russell Wilson was drafted as a developmental guy but they found to their surprise and excitement he was ready right away.

What is a developmental QB? I'd say it's a guy who you think/hope can get a lot better with time and teaching. I think there are plenty of them over the years.

These are all good examples with the possible exception of Brady.  He may have been drafted as a project but he proved himself ready almost immediately.

I think of a project quarterback as a guy who ultimately figures out the position after 2-3 years of tutelage.

I like 4 QB’s in this draft. Darnold, Allen, Mayfield and Rosen....not in that particular order.

Just looking forward to next week so the speculation can be over.

I also like these 4 in no particular order and for that reason I would hate to see the Bills give up huge amounts of draft capital to get one of them.  I think the fact that we're 10 days out from the draft and none of us know which player is going #1 tells us that there isn't what could be considered a "can't miss" prospect amongst the 4.  If you remember the 2011 season that was just a tank contest to see who was going to draft Andrew Luck who was universally accepted as the #1 pick months before the draft.

If there is no way Beane can pull off a move to get us in a position to draft a Quarterback in Round 1, then what do you want to see us target in Round 1 next?  I think if we can land Roquan Smith it would be a very good consolation prize to not bringing in a marquee QB.  I'm sure McDermott would love to get his hands on a stub LB that can be the quarterback of the defense for years to come.  If we don't get either QB or Smith then I will feel kind of disappointed.

Is this code for "I'll want to kill myself"?

Herm Edwards was wrong.  You play to win championships and do whatever it takes to get there.  This year involves trading a bunch to move up & try to get the franchise QB who will get you there.  Other years could involve tanking, but this season isn't going to be a tank year.

Herm is out of the NFL because he lost sight of the big picture.

Tell this to McDermott.  He seems like a tank guy.

I have no problem taking the down season for 2018 as I think they will be lined up perfectly for 2019. Nobody wants to get to #2 this year more than me but if there are no takers, it is what it is. Just making the playoffs last year was fun as hell and I see a pretty bright future after this upcoming season. Don't waste Benjamin and Shady when you know damn well neither will be back next year. Collect some more picks for next years draft and we are sitting pretty.

Why? This is basically he same value as has been stated before. Tons of people are saying it will take our 2x 1sts in 2018, possibly our 2018 2nd, and a 2019 first to get up to number 2.

This was literally the same value, except for we moved up to no. 4 first, then packaged with 12. You don't trade up to no.2 in the draft unless you are enamored with a guy.

That's literally what I said.  I was reacting to a post regarding the Bills trading to #2.

It makes WAY more sense that they grab a developmental QB with one of their multiple picks in the 2nd/3rd in a very deep QB draft. Maybe there's an outside chance they take one at 23 or 31 if they really like a guy. But they're not trading way up to the top of the draft for a QB who will sit behind Brady for years.

The Patriots are in completely uncharted waters here.  They have a 41 year old starting quarterback with no successor in place. When the end comes for Brady it's probably not going to be after a long slow erosion of ability but rather with a mighty crash. That could take years or it may take months but I'm sure the Pats are thinking get a replacement in place sooner rather than later.
