  1. I posted a earlier topic a couple of days ago about maybe the defense just quit Thursday with all the missed tackles, etc.

and I was surprised how many comments were posted that the team was tired from the Sunday game against the Raiders.

I actually thought the offense was okay considering there was no back up halfback and I believe no WR that could be 1 or2

on most other NFL teams. The offense also did not lay down coming down the field for 2 late scores, and who knows

what would have happened had we recovered the 2nd onside kick. And remember the defense allowed 3 running plays

to allow the Jets a first down to end the game.

Anyway, tired; tired;  give me a break.

Tired is carrying a lunch bag or box 5 days a week, 50 weeks a year, total commuting maybe over a hour, maybe working a

6th day, and maybe working a evening shift to pay the mortgage. Tired is not playing football when it counts  maybe 30 minutes

a day for 8 days a year. And with McDermott rotating defense lineman, they usually are not even out there for 30 minutes.

For those 30 minutes, the pay is more than most make in a full year. I am not saying they don,t beat up their bodies for maybe

a short career, and deserve their money, but tired. I don,t believe after Sunday afternoons game, any of the defense had to toil

9-5  the next few days to bring home a pay check and then go drive to the airport Thursday to get a commercial Jet to go to

New York or Newark and they were tired that evening.

Besides, it has been said that all teams have shall we say candy in their locker rooms to give them energy or help their aches

    and pains.

So tired, I don,t buy it , so lets hope we get an all out performance Sunday and on the road the rest of the year to put a end to

    this topic.

  2. You all saw the game Thursday. The Jets ran the ball for 194 yards. Missed tackles all over the field

At 3:39 of the 4th Quarter Matt Forte practically walked on lst down 5 yards into the end zone untouched'

    for a 31-7 Jets lead.

Phil Simms on CBS said Monday "Missed tackles are a big thing. That tells you they (the players) don't have

enough guys hustling". Rodney Harrison on NBC said Sunday "When you don't respect your coach,

    players will quit on you

So was the defense so bad, worse in the 2nd half,  because

    1. The defense quit

    2. Or no Dareus

    3. Or the Jets saw something on tape no other offense had seen this year.

Whatever you think, Drew Brees is coming to New Era Sunday and he is no chopped liver. 3rd all time in

NFL Career Passing Yards with over 68,000. 4th all time is Mr. Brady with over 64,000.

Will the defense meet the challenge  Sunday?

  3. Sure, Rex is a failed coach, and what he said was for entertainment value.

However, I said on another post that it was McDermott,s job to make it work with Dareus.

He was a problem on and off the field.  If you remember Lawrence Taylor, he was a pain in the neck

and drove his Coach crazy, and there were different rules for him, but the Giants Coach made it

work because of Taylor's talent. Dareus was needed this year, and he was given away, given away,

for a future 6th rounder. That was insane. Beane and McDermott got rid of a headache to make

their job easier, saving a few million on the cap , and for a future 6th rounder. How does that

make sense, losing talent, if it costs the playoffs this year.

  4. Last nights game was basically a 34-7 blowout, until the Jets started dancing all over the field and

not care about the last few minutes.

Tell me, if they play like last night who are they going to beat, Kansas City? New Orleans winner of

5 straight? The Pats? Miami maybe?

  5. Most of the threads you saw late last night and will see in the next few days are all about the same thing, but told in different ways, that is how inept, outclassed, and terrible the Bills were last night

against the New York Jets. Save yourself money in buying the Buffalo news today and read "A few thoughts about the game" posted last night at 11:46PM that will tell you everything you need to know.

The bottom line is performances like last night will leave the team with a 5-11 record this year.

So why not read the News? Because reporters have access, access with the coaches and players.

While they indoubtably will pan the performance, if they go overboard their would be a chance

they would be denied much access at TBD. After all, what coach or what player wants to hear that

he sucked, because that is what happened last night. It is the cold hard truth, that just about most

everyone, is to blame. No sense in sugar coating it as to just one of those things, and we are where

we are today because of last night.

    Regarding:

    1. Ownership. The Pegulas are to be commended for saving NFL football in Buffalo. Why they did it

is unimportant-for fun and enjoyment, profit, tax reasons or whatever, They not being football

people, the mistake made was not hiring a football czar, giving him him full authority with no

interference at all. Instead a first time GM and coach were hired, the coach bolting with money at

the end of the year and who was thought highly enough to get another HC job this year.

Next, another coach was hired who gave great press conferences, and who now works in TV,

escaping with more money. Now we have another first time GM and HC, toiling 30-40 years in

the league before the Bills hired them.

    2. The GM. Now, our new GM has stripped the roster of most of its talent. For what, draft

choices. Again, for what, to save a few million on the Cap for more draft choices. While it is

more than possible we can get a star who will perform at a high level for 10-15 years, the

graveyard is full of failed draft choices, both high and low. Besides football is a team game.Did

our star, Sean McCoy win this important division game for us last night.

    3. The Coach. While admittedly he has had the team overachieving, the 3rd best NFL defense

collapsed last night. Was it because opposing coaches have enough tape to see the defense

and now have a way to beat it with rushing 5, and other ideas? With no adjustments at the half

it was a miracle our QB didn't wind up in the hospital. The Darius situation. All players should

not be treated equally. It may be contrary to what I said about football being a team game, but

our better players sometimes need to be indulged. If one of our top players is a jerk or even

worse, our HC must find a way to make it work. A lot of you know the story of Lawrence Taylor.

The Giants HC made it work I am sure it drove him crazy, but he did not trade him (and our HC

had his prints all over this trade-he could have vetoed it) for a future 6th round draft choice

who may never even make the team, next year, not this year when we have a shot.

    4. The Players. Did they want this performance on National TV or is this who they are.

Finally, is this a overreaction to last night. I hope it is, because if our HC is unable to fix this

embarrassment in 9 days, this will be the cold hard truth.

  6. Brian Costello beat reporter many years for the New York Jets in todays New York Post has

called the Bills overrated. His exact words "an overrated Bills team". Now I really doubt that

he has seen every minute of every Bills game this.

Me, I really disagree with him, feeling the Bills are not overrated but have overachieved.

Perhaps not having the talent of some other NFL team after sending Watkins, Woods, Gilmour,

Darby and Dareus, etc. the Bills are a agressive hard playing team, that lays it all out there

every game. Tops in takeaways with 11 INT's and 6 fumbles have they been lucky or good

in that aspect of the game? I think it is a little of both and at this point we do not where the

rest of the season takes us. However one thing is certain, and that the first 7 games are in

the books for 2017 and whatever else happens, no one can take away the results so far,and

for those of us proud of this team so far, enjoy.

  7. Russell Wilson never became a franchise QB until his 3rd year. Tyrod Taylor is in his 3rd year. Will he

become a franchise QB? We don't know, but we do know is that his detractors vastly outnumber his supporters, whether it be in the media, on this board or among the Bills fandom. Look, we all know

Taylor is not Tom Brady or Jim Kelly for that matter. What we do know is that since Kelly he has been

the best at his position. All the drafts since then have not produced the franchise QB. Why? Because

besides the demanding play required, the draft is a crap shoot. Is Nathan Peterman the answer?

We don't know that either. Playing QB is not a science. All the variables, all the analytics can't

predict the future correctly all the time, same as the weather person can't get it right all the time. If, Taylor, Peterman, or the next QB draftee is the answer does that guarantee playoffs or Super Bowls?

Of course not. Having a franchise QB like Manning, Rivers, or Brees who are winding down their careers guarantees nothing. While Manning has won two SBs, he has missed the playoffs 5 out of the last 6 years including this one, Having Rivers or Brees among others, don't make the playoffs a sure thing also. That is because football is a team game and that includes the roster of 53 including some who may rarely play. On top of that, making the playoffs can come down to 1 quarter, 1 series or even

1 play. Also, basically going into every season, 28 teams are fighting for 7 spots as it has been a

forgone conclusion the Pats are already AFC east champs and division winners before the season has started. Look, we know that Taylor is not perfect , but we also know the greatest to ever play the position does not go 25-25 and 300 with no INTs most every week. Now the Bills have the third

oldest team in the NFL and really need to get younger as even Incognito, Kyle Williams, and Hughes

and others will leave or be forced out soon. We need help in the draft on both lines,

on the back end, as a back up and eventual long term running back. Do we need another QB next year. The rest of the season may determine that. We need to cheer are entire team Sunday, and

when Taylor makes a bad throw or the offense doesn't move the chains, and people start screaming

the QB is no good, it upsets the whole team. Taylor may not be the answer, but let it play out this year, and if we don't win the SB, maybe we do need another QB, but again, if it is not Brady or Kelly

lets hope the rest of the team is upgraded to help whoever is behind Center next year
