Why?  They are clearly taking the smart approach of slowly ramping him up to full speed.  If getting him fully 100% healthy and in game shape means another 4 weeks on the inactive list, that's fine with me.  We need him in January.

Then why doesn’t Sean just say this? His cryptic, secretive comments during pressers raise eyebrows of anyone other than pandering media who refuse to probe into this

  2. McDermott has been silent with updates on this situation and the media have done a very poor job (as they did with 13 seconds) getting answers. Leaves me to believe there might be more going on with this situation (and a potentially longer timeline) than we’d like to think

Why is he always so annoying?  I find highly improbable that Mark Gaughan reported on the significance of the injury mid-week, but the Bills were caught off guard.

The guy replacing him has been in the system for years.

Not sure why “this would hit Bills harder than most”.

Problem is the Buffalo media are soft and don’t probe for answers. They just take any no answer Sean provides and nod their heads. My guess is the Bills knew this was coming much earlier in the week

Watching the press conference...god I hate sleezy reporters.  They are asking Beane such stupid questions.  They are just trying to get a click bait sound bite, its disgusting.  Going out of their to just try and make them look bad and look for the shock and awe moments they can create.  F THEM

Thank god we have Beane and McD who don't bite and are as a class act as they get.

If only they were this nasty trying to get answers about the 13 second debacle

  5. You all draw these inaccurate conclusions about stuff he writes. There’s nothing about this that implies he doesn’t understand the community. His points praise Allen and are all completely fair. He can be prickly but it seems bias people have about him impact the way they read his stuff. He’s also one of the few from the soft Buffalo media who tries to hold these guys to account

His current deal.  If he doesn't like it, he doesn't have to play.

You don't sign a 31 year old safety to top dollar, especially a guy who at one point thought would never play again.

Poyer has one unbelievable year and turns into a diva.  Guy was a straight disaster in that KC game.

Bills need to get younger at safety anyways.  This should be the last year of Hyde and Poyer.  Hyde can mentor Poyers replacement next year.

Agree completely. And he was garbage in the Texans playoff game too. These games get conveniently overlooked by fans and the media

More than Watson, I feel the NFL needs to drop the hammer on the Browns. They were aware of the numerous allegations. They manipulated his contract in anticipation of him being suspended so they'll only take $1M cap hit. I'd suspend him for two seasons at a minimum just to make an example to other teams. And those other teams already are angry with the Haslems for making the seemingly least deserving player the first to have his contract guaranteed.

I’m sure they will. Just like they punished the Titans and Vrabel for the COVID mess they caused. Just like they punished Tyreek Hill for what he did to his kid.

It’s exactly the same structure as any large contract.  Von Miller’s is structured the same way, with a vet minimum salary in year 1.  The Browns would have actually helped themselves by putting more salary into games that Watson would be suspended for.  That’s because teams recoup cap space for the forfeited salary in that situation.

Correct. They decided to help Watson and his earning potential in light of a looming suspension vs help themselves. Basically getting on their hands and knees to accommodate someone with 22 pending lawsuits.

The contract Watson is slated to sign with the Browns, at a base-salary level, is far less than what he was scheduled to make with the Texans. Money lost on a suspension comes out of the player’s base pay for the season, so Watson would lose around $55,000 per game under his new deal if a suspension is levied, whereas he would have lost nearly $2 million per game with the Texans.

His base salary for 2022 is $1M

The Browns should really be getting more heat for structuring the contract that way. While nothing prohibited them from doing it, they’re being somewhat complicit to everything going on.
