By your logic, what was the point of keeping tom Brady his first year? Or many other greats that did not start week one of their rookie year? Trolling, much?

Not sure what Watkins did wrong aside from injuries he couldn't help and drawing attention that no receive on this roster can command.
I think he may.have had a non team player personality and saw himself above the rest. Not saying I know this but that was the vibe I got and clearly McD didn't like something about him.

What a difference a week makes. After game 2 I was saying start the beginning of the season with Peterman due to the o-line and was getting beat up some for it. Lol.
This team is likely going 0-4 to start and JA will get chances to come out and play even when not starting I'm fairly certain. Let's not ruin that confidence he had last week by making him scramble around all day before getting put on his ass repearedly and then having to deal with the fans losing confidence. . .we've been through so many QBs these past 20 years that we should have at least learned how to ruin them so as to not repeat again; maybe.

The bills are very often overlooked or ignored. Why would anyone be surprised? Their games are rarely nationally televised and get the lower class announcing team. How many sports writers etc actually watch most bills games outside of WNY? But who cares? "If you brag about her too much it might give others ideas" ha.
I will say though, their job involves statistics and the statistics do say that the safe bet is to bet against Josh as buffalo has seen many, many QBs come and go since {{Kelly}} and but one feckless wildcard game with a QB we did not even want.
I believe in JA from what I saw these past two weeks and reminded my 10yo son, who was at the game with me the first game, that he saw JA's very first time on an NFL field and to remember that if he becomes a great. But I'm a fanboy of 45 years is all - I would not expect the same from the national media, etc.
Let's enjoy under the radar and let JA develope without all the pressure that a Baker is going to have to endure - and god help darnold in NYC-NJ if he stumbles as there is no beneath the radar for him there. Lol

Rebuilding year? Did you just come out of a time capsule from the 2017 offseason? Dude, we made the f*cking playoffs, drafted a franchise qb, and will probably have a top 10 d unit, WTF are you smoking??
2017 bills were not a playoff team in my opinion. Sure, by definition, semantically speaking, they played a wildcard card game but if anyone here saw a playoff calibre team in the bills last year then that only shows how long it has been since we last had one.
And other than JA showing himself to be special, a big upgrade at OC and also at backup RB I'm not sure the 2018 bills are any better than 2017. Not trying to be a downer - I'm hugely exited for a couple of years from now and also for next week's preseason game - but expecting playoffs with no oline is crazy.
-
I will say that a part of me selfishly wants JA to start as he was fun to watch. But if he gets seriouly injured due to a mia online the bills will be to blame for the three years lost time it would likely take to get back to the feeling we went to bed with last night; amd i suspect many.of those now calling for JA in week1 will grow memory loss and blame the coaching for that.

What better way to spend a "rebuilding year" than giving your franchise QB much needed game experience? Why would you waste, what essentially becomes house money in terms of wins and losses, on Peterman when Allen needs game day reps?
I would agree if not for the serious risk this line may present. Our starting qb broke his collar bone behind it not 20 hours ago and you guys want JA to get in there? Maybe the line will get better with more games under their belt but let the first weeks not be JA who is the crash test dummy used to find out.

its simple. you play your best players at every position. Allen is better than Peterman at every facet of the game. If McD starts Peterman he should be fired for malpractice.
Nah. No way. I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say you are a lousy card and or chess player. Playing the best first over and over blindly is not the way to win the long game.
The oline may be criminally dangerous - let Peterman run recon in the first weeks and see just how dangerous it is. The bills are not contenders in 2018 either way.
-
JA was amazingly fun to watch. Woot! But Peterman should start the reg season. Many of you do not seem to understand or remember that this is a rebuilding year. Last year should have been but everyone wanted a dumb playoff game which really screwed us in the draft and caused is to need to trade away picks we needed for an oline so as to get a QB.
We seem to have struck gold on the QB but we also know we have a horrible oline. Why gamble the rookie and maybe future franchise QB we have been waiting more than 20 years for on this season? We cannot win this season with all the holes we have. Run defense and oline being big ones it seems.
Start Peterman and spare the kid in the first few games at least. Peterman will likely have a few really bad days thus allowiing JA to get some game time; he may even get injured as AJ did what with this line. 2018 bills season is not about W-L but about the future. Losing 12 games is fine - ruining or breaking our new hope QB just to make 8 wins and not 4 is dumb.
Man, JA really looked the part; and then some. Pre season Game 3 has me more anticipated to see than just about any reg season bills game in recent memory.

Where does being so convinced he's going to be a bust that you start looking at 2019 top QB prospects shortly after Allen was taken fit?
Sounds like bargaining to me. You're probably bargaining with the situation as " well, AJ is starting this year anyhow and we do still need more OL and WR adds yet so between Allen, N8 P and the guy we get in round 1 next spring something will bear fruit before the rest of the squad is ready to commence kicking ass."
Mind you, these are not.my thoughts. I was pissed in the moment but then seeing Rosen act like a thin skinned and spoiled turd before and after he was drafted at 10 I realized we had dodged a bullet there.

I heard they wanted 12,22,53 and a 2019 1st.
That sounds like a reasonable ask from the giants going by the discussions here the past months too. I know many here would have wanted the bills to do that ask too - I am not one though as we need a lot more than just a QB. We got a top four, blue chip QB and a great lb and kept our first for 2019.

If so, they could have radically improved their o-line via a trade with the Bills and gotten, say, Sony Michel (who I think is really good even though he might not last more than 5 years). Is Barkley really that good? Will he even be as good as Kamara or Hunt were last season? I doubt it, but we shall see.
The bills.were unwilling to give up both 12 and 22 though. I think.they would have traded back their 2 if a fair price for it.

I hate you guys. Why you gotta scare me like this? The bills had damned well better not sell the stadium for a one shot on the roulette wheel. That's WAY too much to pay. Hell, he would still need an oline and WRs! What would we do then? Start interviewing the buff state Bengals for seniors or drop out juniors to play for us? :o)
If I were the browns I would make the deal for sure! They would totally own the draft this year with all those picks they have and all that we give them. Dang.
Please no. Stay at 12 before giving it all away. Do it.

Of course we'd be upset if we don't get a top 4 QB, but even more so if we take him a round or 2 ahead of where he's projected and wasting a pick that we paid so much for. Throw in the fact that none of the 2019 QB's look very good and I don't see how Beane and McD keep their jobs beyond 2019. I'd just get a guy like Lauletta in the 4th or 5th as an emergency option.
So you would essentially advocate for firing them for ending the playoff streak? Cause that's why we landed at 21.

Love the draft. Perfect combination of football during a dry spell, boundless hope and optimism, the human drama of kids making good on their life's ambition. So much better now that they don't tip the picks (unless you seek out spoilers). A++ would watch again.
Dry spell? March madness just ended amd nba playoffs are going on along with MLB and soon NHL playoffs. Ha. Just messin with ya. Human drama was on high last year with the gas mask bong. Hole-E!

Fadingpain: "It always used to be baseball, and whatever #2 was was a mile behind"
the baby bombers are fun! Even have a 5'7 infielder; altuve is 5'6 and won Am league Nov last year. Very young group. They won 14-1 last night.
Houston returns with even better pitching than that which won them the world series last fall and the yankees return even younger and more offensively potent than the offense that got them to game 7 of the alcs last fall. Then there's the red sox who are winning every game; bastards.
football may be king but baseball is still great; for those that like that sort of thing.

The combine is worse by FAR but it's not highly rated so that's out. Same for WNBA someone listed - no hype there to begin with - shoot, they need more love.
I vote television golf. The game is fine but how to just watch it for hours with the sleepy whisper commentators? Hell, I even love baseball too. PGA is on the Tele way too much imo. I don't get it. At least nascar has infighting, crashes and loud noises. . .not something I'm sitting hours staring at either though.
Most under hyped for the quality of watching is tennis I think. Tons of action, fast paced and often many tense moments all through the match where the final outcome is affected. That game in the first set where your player lost on his service can haunt him hours later as he needs to maybe win a complete extra set over it. And, when McEnroe played there was drama and anger too. Ha.
Replace some of the golf with tennis! Cripes - I've been far more engaged in curling on the tv than I ever have golf. :o)

As stated by others, the jets need to move up three spots - the Bills needed to move up 18 spots to get that. No comparison. Fact of it is that we all (most all) wanted playoffs in 17 even though we knew it was not even close to being our year. We got what we wanted and now have the hangover from it.

Hopefully this doesn't happen. If it does, I'd like to see the Bills trade back as many times as possible for as many 1st round picks in 2019 as possible. I know this won't be a popular idea, but the Bills have a ton of draft capital. Given that each draft pick next year is worth 1 round less than picks from this year, if the Bills traded down in exchange for 2019 draft picks they could do what Cleveland just did and own the draft for the next few years and get a QB next year.
If they do this then they had better not go and try for the danged playoffs again this year - unless they already have a top 5 first round pick for '19 in hand

That doesnt really bother me that much. I want a pocket passer. I like baker but he does that because of his size
We don't have the o line for a pocket passer and if we give up too many picks to move up we can't build the requisite o line nor fix up the WRs.

Things like bad trips or binges are best helped with a strong aupport system and he sure seems to have that in his family.
Who wants to try and win this year, and who wants to see development?

Why did they go 17 years? Mediocrity. 8-8 and thereabouts, perenially, is death. What did we do last year? The same but with a lot of luck broke the streak is all. 2018 bills are not a playoff team. Screw wins - train and grow and if that means 3-13 then so be it. Start Peterman but do play JA plenty as well when blowouts.
