That reminds me of Dan Brandenberg. He was a pass rushing OLB drafted very late in round 7. In exhibition games he was pressuring and sacking QBs seemingly at will. The kid had great speed and seemed to be very strong. I couldn't believe how he was not drafted earlier, and based on his great preseason play he made the roster.

Well, my bubble burst as soon as the regular season started. He was manhandled by blockers. They put him on special teams where he would get pancaked and soon he was out of the NFL. :(

O'h wow yes i remember thinking the same 😅

I mean, what they did in a literal sense, was switch out all of last season's proven failures for some veteran journeymen WR's and modest IOL talent in UFA who were coming off seasons that ranged from totally unproductive to modestly effective.

They are just hoping that they hit the jackpot with a couple of those guys AT LEAST and that they play much better than they did with their teams in 2022.    Which, for reference,  is what Indianapolis is hoping for from Isaiah McKenzie too.

Because the fact is, they didn't acquire a single player on offense who played up to the level last season that they need them to play at this year in Buffalo to make a difference.   There isn't a single one for whom a repeat performance would be a success if they need to play an important role for the Bills offense in 2023.

They tried the same thing last year with Jamison Crowder and OJ Howard.  Those were even bigger names with more and better NFL seasons in their past.......for whom much was hoped for.......but they never even got off the runway.

The moves that they made that are most likely to move the needle for the team are their 1st round TE and 2nd round OG.    And that's mainly because they don't have a proven track record of not being able to excel......or missing significant time due to injuries........that the free agents do.

I have my fingers crossed that the mixture of additions work out but I'm going to be realistic about what to expect......especially from the rag tag group they added in UFA.

I believe this team is looking for "outlier" seasons, guy's that have underperformed or have been hurt. Gonna roll the dice hope for some kind of breakout. If it does happen don't expect to roll it out again outside of Kincaid. Still have nail some future drafts.

Somehow got to fit in the equation Josh Allen, he will play a big part obviously.

I wouldn't call either a journeyman.  Sherfield had a breakout year last year, only going into year 6. Harty had a phenomenal 2021 after finally getting a shot but was injured most of last year. See him putting up John Brown type numbers in this O. Only going into year 5. I like the potential for both.

Shakir I thought came on nice late in the year after limited opportunities and hoping the upwards trajectory continues.  I just like these 5 vs our top 5 last year and Kincaid should be a stud

Agree with all of this, and it all could come together, but none of these outside Kincaid are "Studs", if they take off this year it would be an outlier to their past performances. Fan in me wants this, but of course at now 54 years old i have wished for a lot of this before lol.

The only one I have expectations for is Kincaid.

Shakir didn't catch the ball well last year in his limited opportunities.........the drop in the playoff game against Miami when he was open alone deep stands out but also his 50% catch rate and 10% drop rate in the regular season were just more of the same inconsistency that they were getting from Gabe and Lil' Dummy.    Shakir kinda' reminds me of Knox in that he seems to focus well on difficult catch opportunities and instead his drops are the inexcusable, easy, wide-open types.

The journeyman that they signed we'll just have to wait and see.........they have averaged less than 200 yards per season each in their careers.    Could one or both of them break out?  Yeah but OJ Howard could have been TE2 and Jamison Crowder could have played like he had 2 years prior to joining the Bills.............and of course, neither did.    Hopefully these very modest investements in weapons yield more than it's fair to expect but especially with veteran players like that.......players are who they are until otherwise proven.

Hoping to catch lightning in a bottle is a fans job, could happen, but ultimately up to management to start removing any doubt on this subject.

The opener of last season might have been the most impressive "quick game"  performance of Josh Allen's career.    And Dorsey was the play caller.   They just didn't have the personnel to execute the style all season.    McKenzie had clearly outplayed Crowder in the preseason and then McKenzie was a roller coaster with all of those opporunities in the first month of the season and the beaten-out Crowder got injured.   So they played much of the year without the talent to consistently execute the quick game.   I think Dorsey has to be given a pass on whether or not he can coordinate a short game because you can't expect your QB to keep feeding a block-headed slot receiver with a 9% drop rate.

And here we have the answer to why i have high expectations for Dalton, i know full well he is a rookie. But by Jesus the man has some great hands he cannot possibly be a downgrade, and if all goes well he could be a hell of a weapon by the later season🙏

I actually think the bar for an AFC contender is significantly higher this year.

All 3 other teams in the AFC East are likely to be better.......the AFC Central personnel is improved across the board(though some may say Cinci is not).......the AFC West can't be any less competitive........and the Jaguars are in contender mode now with their elite young QB so the AFC South now actually has a legit chance to reach the SB for the first time in a long time.    You aren't likely to have an AFCCG with some overmatched team versus the Chiefs like the 2019 or 2020 games.   The playoffs are going to be a dog fight, IMO.

Without that extra weapon or 2 that they've been lacking the Bills can play down to the level of some of the wannabe contenders like they did against the Dolphins in the playoffs last year...........or won't be able to match up with the Bengals/Chiefs.........so the Bills really need the additions to be A LOT better than what they had, IMO.

I agree with all of this, but it might not be such a bad thing either. Going to be some damn good teams that may get knocked out, or at least get really put to the test.

    Davis had "some drops"??

In other news Rodger Saffold "had *some* poor games".

Davis lead NFL WR in drop % and was second in total drops by a WR.

With 9 drops in only 93 targets......Gabe was basically outright DROPPING catchable balls on 1 of every 10 passes Allen threw to him.

Overall........he was 186th out of 197 players in catch % at 51.6%........and everyone that was worse than him had a fraction of the targets he had.

He was the worst high volume receiver in the entire NFL at coming down with passes.

Could be what the doctor ordered, plus it might look pretty cool

AGAIN.......the Chiefs have invested more in finding their #2 receiving option.

They have 3 recent early picks fighting to hopefully become their #2 option.......or at worst their #3 if one of them can't beat out MVS.

The Bills have just 1.   All of their eggs are in the Kincaid basket and he's an actual rookie.

And the Chiefs have been to 5 straight AFC Championship games and 3 SB's and won 2 of them.

So yeah even if 3 wasn't more than 1.........only a fool wouldn't give them the benefit of the doubt over any other team in the NFL.

Where some Bills fans(who obviously don't follow the rest of the NFL closely) have gotten really stupid is with these expectations that Harty and/or Sherfield are going to be studs.     Every team has role players like them on the back half of their WR corps.   You probably never even heard of either of these undrafted players until the Bills signed them.   Occasionally,  but very rarely, does one of these guys go from being super low producer for their first 4-5 years or for their first 3 teams(like Sherfield).

The likelihood remains that Gabe Davis will be the Bills #2 receiver option again this year.    That's rightfully concerning considering how inefficient the Bills were when targeting him last year.    He had one of the worst catch rates in the NFL,  the second most drops of any NFL receiver and Allen's passer rating plummeted when throwing to him and a ton of his INT's were created when throwing to Gabe.

Beauty is Badol they only have to be better than lil' dummy, which i fell they will then roll in Kincaid and maybe even mr. short arms i can see a small glimmer of light at the end of the tunnel.

Carolina and Buffalo offenses are pretty different. In Carolina the #1 target was a TE Greg Olsen. Also they were one of the least throwing teams in the NFL. The Bills are going to be at the top of the league.

Agree, my point was Dorsey came from that system, then worked with Daboll, never had any one approaching Olsen, But did have Diggs and Allen. I expect a morphing of the two philosophies this year.

  10. Things is 12 personal doesn't help the run game as much as some may think, if the run games improves it will be on the o-line and backs improving.I really like it from a passing game perspective, there are others more versed in this who could explain in more depth on this subject.

    Are you drunk?

Dorsey has been an OC one year. We have zero history to go off of as far as how he will use two TEs. That was my point, we have no idea.

Actually we have all the years in Carolina with Shula who is on our staff, ran a whole bunch of 12 personal

Topic was mede to be a fun exercise, obviously no one here knows the future🙄 upside though is if you hit people actually may think you know something lol

Impossible to predict. Dorsey is a huge question mark.

I just hope he is used.

Still , make a prediction, promise nobody get's hurt.

Yeah and wrt to power to speed........I am probably a bit more optimistic about Epenesa than most because I am expecting that he will be a more powerful RDE this season after another offseason in the pass rusher body he was asked to transform into.    I am glad they've hedged their bets significantly but expecting better from him this season either way.

Agree, man that sucker shows flashes, really want to see hime piece it together this year.
