I get that, but point is there were no reports as far as I can tell that we met with them, much like there are no reports that we met with McConkey. That doesn't necessarily mean it didn't happen. I haven't found a public report about us meeting with any of our first rounders in the McBeane era as a matter of fact. Even the reports about Josh Allen stated that we only met with him at the Senior Bowl before bringing him in for a private workout.

McDermott, Pegula and Beane flew to Wyoming to meet with Josh.

James Franklin's program at Penn State is underwhelming and unfortunately, so are most of his draft eligible players.

There's no production in college from this player, and he's not a 1st round selection. His sacks came against the cream puffs on Penn State's schedule.  Of his four sacks in 2023, two came against the juggernaut University of Massachusetts in an October 63-0 blitzing.  One against Rutgers, one against Iowa.

He had no stats in the 2023 games against Ohio State or Michigan.

Thank you, this is reasoned and objective.

He tested well this week.  Good 10-yard split and broad jump.

This would be on par with picking Donte Whitner level of stupidity.

    Why do you think that?

Whitner was picked 20 picks too early, and there Ngata was there for the taking.

28 is the range for Chop.  I haven't seen him play a down but am interested in your negative opinion.

Yep. Agree totally with this. He did, at the Senior Bowl, show more explosion than you saw on tape but then his run at the Combine was disappointing. I think he is exactly as you say in a 4-3 - just a bigger end who plays the run and bull rushes. To me his best fit is as a 5 tech in a 3-4 but I think someone will convince themselves that he can be a speed rusher outside, particularly from a two point stance as an 3-4 outside backer. I hope that someone isn't the Bills.

I guess this is in reference to Darius Robinson of Michigan.

To me if Penn State or UCLA are on the Board that is the way to go in Rd 1.

  5. I don't trust Sweat to stay in shape.  I have Mike Williams trauma still, I guess.

But I want to avoid the other smaller size guy as we already have Oliver and need some size up front.

I believe DL will be round 1.

If we go DL Round 1, which would be a surprise to me, I don't think we'll sit pat at 60. We'd trade up for a guy who's left on the board after Round 1.

Outside of the first 3 guys who DEF won't be available to us, I have it as Thomas Jr., Legette (I'm higher on him than most), Franklin, Coleman, and Mitchell in that order.

I expect 2-3 of those 5 guys to come off the board by the end of Round 1, Thomas Jr. definitely. It gets a little muddy after that. Hopefully some guys that I don't think fit us like McConkey, Worthy, and Corley also go before some of the other guys on the list.

So, yeah, if we did go DL Round 1, which again I don't see happening (we can get quality DL help much easier in FA than we can get at WR) - we'd be playing the "who's left?" game and trading up from 60 to grab them.

I disagree.  I tend to think it will be DL in Round 1, and then probably WR in Round 2.  I do not doubt the possibility of a trade up in R2

It is that he has not a single extra dollar due from the Bills at this point and his best chance of rehabbing and getting back to form is here where the regime love him, the team knows his body and he knows the scheme. Therefore there is incentive to offer him a small amount of guaranteed new money (I suggested $8m, I think Joe B suggested $10m) in exchange for him taking a significant cut in the unguaranteed chunks he is due in 2024 and 2025. That way you lower his cap hits to about $10m per year the next two years, kick a little bit of the bonus into some void years beyond 2025 (and I'm talking max $4-5m spread over two years) and give yourself Tre under contract in 2024 while still saving the same $$s off the cap as cutting him would and you get an out after 2024 so if he is washed or he gets hurt again you can move on and it costs you less than the $10m in dead money it costs now if we cut him.

Wow.   That is some technical thinking.

White doesn't have the skillset to play strong safety and play in the box but he has the skillset to play free safety and indeed coming out a few very respected evaluators thought that would be his position in the NFL. If one of our corners ends up playing safety in 2024 it will be Tre White. Elam is a total non-starter. Safety accentuates the things he does badly at corner and minimises the things he does well. So he'd be a disaster there. Benford is a young, ascending corner so that is absolutely a guy you don't move and Douglas is too much of a gambler to play safety where you need to have a bit more caution in your mindset of when to attack and when to read and react.

I am not saying it WILL happen, but I do think Tre could play Micah's role. And if the Bills bring him back (interestingly Joe B's roster primer live stream on Friday evening on The Athletic he doubled down on the theory he and I share about what the best solution is on White's contract... and the fact he isn't going to be in a position to pass a medical before his bonus becomes due makes it more likely) I can see them potentially trying it. It might save them FA dollars on a safety.

Could you remind me of what your "theory about what is the best solution for Tre White's Contract"?

I think he’ll get 2 years $60-70m somewhere. He’s carved out a niche as an ideal bridge QB for a team that is looking to draft a rookie this year or next year and let them sit. Pats would be a good fit. Commanders maybe if they aren’t sold on Howell. Raiders possibly as well.

He can get you to the playoffs, and even elevate his play when the game is on the line and you need to push the ball down the field.

I met some Tampa fans during my travels last winter and they were very happy with the Baker.

I feel that the Bucs will keep him in the 30 to 40 range with incentives.

They made the playoffs, didn't they?
