  1. That is because you want the list to look bad - we can do this another way:

The Good - Trading for Hughes, Trading for McCoy, Signing Richie, letting Byrd walk, Signing Z. Brown, signing Alexander, signing Taylor, putting together the talent for a top 5 defense, putting together the talent for a top 10 offense, resigning Taylor at a reduced contract, retaining Richie, Glenn, Wood from a top offensive line, trading back to draft EJ (if you want to give him the EJ pick).

The Bad - trading up for Watkins (has great talent and no previous injury history, but you do not trade up for WR), trading up for a MLB.

To me nearly everything else is the result of the coaching changes and that was beyond his control. Why do we have so few players drafted left - because we keep changing systems and needs. To build a team faster for a switchover - you sign FAs that fit the new scheme and that costs you draft picks.

Agree to disagree, I didn't make a list to make Whaley look bad, he does that all on his own.... You list Zach Brown as good but he only gave him a 1 year deal and didn't retain him so how is that a positive? I'd put Alexander on the lisyt if he can repeat last years total but thats highly unlikely ( I obviously hope he does though), we had the best running game in the league and the lowest passing team in the league so yeah I don't have a probem with putting that on the list although I'd like the passing to at least be middle of the pack, there is no justification for the EJ pick it was a huge swing and miss and he's on record as saying he was to blame for the Manuel pick at his press conference debacle which can also be a negative, along with his mismanagement of the salary cap, giving Dareus that contract without an out clause in case he's busted and lost for the year due to his drug problems.

I like to think I'm a level headed fan but even I turn into a homer sometimes and I think you are justifying what Doug Whaley is doing and has done with draft picks but you have the homer glasses on. Elite and greatplayers can be used in any scheme, take the Los Angeles Rams for instance, they were a base 4-3 team and will now become a Wade Philips 3-4 base team under him, he will fit the players where he feels they will succeed the most, those players we drafted aren't here because they either aren't that good or we couldn't identify the ones that were (Ross Cockrell -Steelers, K Dustin Hopkins-Washington).

  2. 1. DE Myles Garrett- For obvious reasons

    2. CB Marshon Lattimore- I think he'd make up for the Gilmore loss

    3. QB Mitch Trubisky- He could sit, wait and learn, he has all the entagibles.

    4. DE Solomon Thomas- A dominant rush end

    5. QB DeShaun Watson- It's impossible to guage but this kid wins and wins and the most crucial times, hard to overlook that.

    6. DE Jonathan Allen- Another guy sort of falling saying he isn't an elite athlete, sweet but he is an elite football player, give me that all day long.

    7. LB Reuben Foster- There are already many red flags on him but were desperate at WLB.

    8. LB Hasan Reddick- Small school kind of scares me but would also be a solid WLB.

    9. TE David Njuko- For as much hype as OJ Howard is getting how in the hell is Njoku not being talked about? This kid is hands down the best TE in this draft imo.

    10. S Malik Hooker- I hate S in round 1 but if I'm taking 1 he better be Sean Taylor 2.0, not sure if he's even close the hitter but he has the ball skills.

  3. Man it would be awesome to have the draft here in Buffalo, I remember back in 1990 or 91, we had the Sabres draft here... I got Lindros autograph at McDonalds hours before, it was awesome, had a bunch of prospects sign my draft book, great times.

  4. It's not considered a strong draft class. Trading the farm to get the first pick would be foolish. Get a QB in other rounds.

It's funny when a draft class is called weak yet almost all NFL teams still can't identify a surefire franchise QB unless he's Andrew Luck/Peyton Manning. The whole "this is a weak draft class, next years will be much better" is getting old fast, last year at this time I remember numerous posters on the BBMB probably yourself included said the same thing last season, lets wait until next year and take Deshaun Watson, I heard Watsons name a bunch of times. Now a bunch of posters say the same, this is a weak draft class, wait next year for Darnold/Rudolph etc.

  5. Finally, they are at least attempting to look at QB's, if they've identified any as a franchise QB I would hope they select him at #10 without hesitation regardless of what us arm chair GM's think about this QB class.

He would be the least experienced QB drafted in round 1 in 40 years if the Browns took him #analytics #didyouknowhesfromCleveland

He wouldn't have to start for at least 2 seasons with Taylor on board, he would have plenty of time to sit and learn.

  6. I may be in the minority but I like the moves the Browns are making, collecting draft picks like the Dallas Cowboys of the 90's, They are hiring whoever they can to help them turn into winners and I like that, seems like what the Bills are trying to do with the hiring of McDermott, when Whaley is fired we will hopefully do the same :D .

  7. If we have a good to great scouting department we could find a solid backup rookie FA, we found Gillislee on someones practice squad or garbage heap, Bills fans over value all players.... There is going on 60 pages for a backup RB when we have possibly the best or at least top 5 RB in the league already on the roster.

  8. Technically, Whaley wasn't GM for any of those drafts you listed. His first draft as actual GM was 2014.

We can argue how much say he had in those drafts, but none of us know for sure. They very well could have been all Whaley, but we don't really know.

Also, are you sure about him having the lowest number of starters in his tenure? When is that measured from, 2010-2016/17? Or 2014-2017? Just curious. Do you have a link? Not saying I don't believe you. I'd just like to see the info for myself. I hadn't heard that about Whaley. I'd be interested to read it.

I recently came across an article that ranked the starters from the first 3 rounds from 2010-2015 and it had the Bills 6th in the NFL. It has probably changed since then because the Bills lost some starters to FA, but they were still drafted by Buffalo...

He was the director of pro personnel, he had say in the draft picks and he was a GM in waiting, everyone knew this even us fans.

Here is the article about the Bills having the least amount of draft picks starting on the roster. http://www.pressreader.com/usa/the-buffalo-news/20161219/282471413508552

  9. The Good- Trading for Jerry Hughes, Signing Ritchie Incognito, trading for LeSean McCoy

The Bad- Trading up for Sammy Watkins, having the lowest amount of starting draft picks since his tenure in the league, Drafting EJ Manuel, The hiring of Rex Ryan, his drafting in general has been awful (only Dareus remains from the 2011 draft, only Cordy Glenn remains from 2012 draft, only Jonathan Meeks remains from 2013 draft).

Way too much bad for me and I think he is definitely deserving of his ranking imo.

  10. I can't see us going into the season with Taylor, Yates and Jones... If Taylor goes down for any reason this team is doomed. If they've identified a QB in this draft as a "franchise" QB then I expect him to be the pick at 10 and I'm good with that, otherwise I'm guessing rounds 2-3 would be a solid backup with potential to be a #1 QB down the road, I'm also good with that.

  11. This is a broad question imo, it will all depend who falls to us and there is always a player/players who fall for whatever reason. You don't just trade down to collect more picks when you get a top 5 value fall to you unless what you're getting is way to good to pass up. If we pass on a guy like Allen or Lattimore just to recoup our 4th rounder then it's a stupid idea, If we can manage to get a lower 1st but also get the teams 2nd in a deal then yes of course I'd be all for that.

  12. It always makes me laugh when people blast the sports analysts, if you don't like them, don't click on them , the more you guys click on them for good or bad they will always be employed. Not a fan of Sullivan or Gleason so I don't click on their articles...... If you or anyone else that don't like him stop also then he will eventually go away.

  13. I still think it's funny when I go to ESPN's website (which I do rarely) and see they have Kiper and McShay's mock drafts hidden behind a paywall like some hidden gem that must be paid for. That company lost the plot a long time ago and won't be around for long with it's current business model.

Mel Kiper Jr. has been putting out draft books since 1970's, as long as there is a draft I think Kiper Jr. has a job.

  14. Aside from perhaps Trubisky [and he's no sure thing] these are all project QB's in the draft.

We've already got one on the roster, Cardale Jones, who people say has a huge ceiling, and who looked like what you'd expect in his one quarter of play in late '16: a confident athlete with a monster arm but raw. I'm not saying he's going to be a great one, but why do many people [including the media] with no access his work on the practice field or classroom write him off already in favor of another raw QB?

There's only so many snaps at practice and so much time the QB coach can give these players...why add another raw rookie?

Just wondering what your credentials are to be able to identify a project QB from a franchise QB? Most scouts can't even get it right so again what credentials do you have? Cardale is beyond raw, he shouldn't even be the 3rd QB on this team, he will need another 3 years just to develop imo.

  15. To me it's not Sammy's fault GM Doug Whaley traded up to get him, I loved the trade when it happened, now in hindsight I see it wasn't a great idea but at the time he was the consensus best WR in the draft, to be fair the last regime really handcuffed Tyrod also but it looks like were gearing up for another run heavy season also so who knows, I think Sammy can be great but kind of worthless in a run first offense, how can we not be thinking 5th year option though? What is the plan other than drafting a WR at 10 to replace him? My problem is there just never seems to be a plan in place, hopefully this will change with McDermott since he says himself how methodical he is about approaching everything.

  16. I am a Bills fan since birth but somewhere along the way I've become a huge Steelers fan also, so much so that when the 2 are playing (Bills/Steelers) I have no worries about the outcome unless it changes the Bills playoff hopes, most of the time they are out of it by that time so I never really worry too much. I've been following the Steelers since Bubby Brister was QB. If that makes me a traitor or a fair weather fan, well I don't believe I am so that's all that matters.

  17. All I know is the guy we pick has to be a hit, we can not have another top draft pick on the shelf all season long, time to get impact starters. I like the fact that they are looking at all the QB's, it shows they actually care about the most important position in football. If they like a certain QB I'm all for it, at least they are trying there. I don't really have a preference, they could go many ways and I'd be good with it.

  18. i've recently seen a couple of mocks...br comes to mind that has trubisky there at # 10. if you're the gm , what do you do?

imo he'd be the only qb i would use a first round pick on....but...

it would be awfully tempting to me to trade down and try to pick up some extra picks, so here's a scenario that i would look at.

trade #10 to cleveland for no. #12...for one of their seconds and a 4th. forgive me for not following the value chart, but i could see the browns drooling here.

trade #12 to the redskins for #17...for a 3rd,4th and 7th. they need quality receivers in the worst way and they have the picks to spare.

with #17 i'm taking a tackle and i like bolles from utah. i know it may be high and he's 25, but i can see a run on olineman from the giants on down through the rest of the 1st. this kid gives us a day one upgrade. he could be our big nasty incognito on the right side.

of course at #17, i wouldn't take the phone off the hook in case jerry jones is in love with say a ross...or maybe peppers is still there. they don't have extra picks though, but here i would settle for a high 2018 pick.

so at #17, that would be bolles...an extra 2nd, 3rd,4th and 7th. we could really do well in this draft.

i don't have a mock, but with 2 2nds and 2 3rds we should be able to get zay jones, a cb, a safety and maybe that dl from vandy.

with the cleveland 4th round pick, i take chad kelly and make sure he comes to buffalo.

i would use the rest for mainly line depth. i do like marcus maye the fs from florida.

the draft can't get here soon enough, im stoked.

if we did pick trubisky at #10, i'd be happy with that, but would hope they could move down in the 2nd and at least grab one or 2 more picks.

lastly, does anyone know how to retrieve avatars from the old board? i also apologize for the lack of caps button talent.

If GM Whaley and Scouts have decided Mitch Trubisky and any other QB is a franchise guy I expect them to take any of those QB's at 10.
