Real football talk isn't enough. Let's add PRETEND football talk to the mix! I get why these nerds get on radio. Shows are long and you have to fill them with something. But no one really knows what players are going to do this season. No one. I don't care that you picked up Shady McCoy for $2 in a late round of an auction draft. You might as well be telling me how many nose hairs you have.

Complaining about it is definitely worse.

    20. Years. Old. Given the prime responsibility on the defense. Wow, it’s amazing he needed to learn on the job.

Those of us with an ounce of foresight saw what the Bills were doing, giving this kid a year to learn as they rebuilt the roster. A lot of you immediately went the lazy, typical route of criticizing the move and blaming the organization.

I don't think calling a young player out of position is equal to criticizing the move AND blaming the organization. That is quite the leap there.

I will point out when Ed Oliver makes bad decisions or poor plays, I will cheer and applaud when he plays well. I liked the pick, reacting to his play has nothing to do with anything else. Same goes for Tremaine. He made a lot of poor decisions last year, has nothing to do with anything else besides that. He can definitely improve, he's young, if he doesn't, well he showed us he can still make plays but positioning can be an issue.

That is all. No more, no less.

A lack of the emboldened is what concerned me about his rookie season. Chicago's rookie did it a couple-two-tree times. Indy's rookie did it, too. Edmunds, not so much.

Edmunds looked to me like a smart, freakishly athletic kid who was starting from scratch. More an athlete than a football player. Which is potentially troubling for such a necessarily violent position.

Maybe he is maturing and learning fast enough to add impact and collision to his game this season. The plays covered in that vid show some progress on that front. Let's hope it continues...

Smart plays > big hits. Efficient plays > highlights.

Dude, I am going to so enjoy seeing all of the “Edmunds had a bad year” and “he didn’t look good, he’s out of position” ninnies eat their words this season.

He was out of position a lot last year. He can also be much improved this year because it was only his rookie season. I don't understand why so many people on this board feel personally attacked when a player is criticized.

I like how when Josh has a bad night, you preface your remark with “ I was not a Josh Allen believer at first” as if your trying protect your couch potato cred.

No I just don't want someone to come out of the woodworks and say, "YOUR ONLY SAYING THIS BECAUSE YOU HATE HIM", because I am not afraid to say, yes, I didn't like the pick at all.

I don't even think he had a bad night, just really one horrific play that I don't ever need to see again.

    I see

So when Sam Darnold turns the ball over multiple times (which he does) then nobody should be fawning over him.....ever

Josh IS GOING to do this here and there.....and you know what....he does other things that are great.....a very good defense that backs him up.....

    We are fine....calm down

Situational football. It was 2nd and 4, throw it away, they teach that in high school. Nobody even mentioned Sam Darnold so I have no idea where that came from. That was a Jamarcus Russell level bad play. Josh can't do that, period.

I'm fine, maybe you should calm down.

I like it...old school farm boy makes it big. Not much to do after work but Chuck footballs!

The farm boy pretty much had the most rich boy summer of all time. This stuff is getting silly at this point.

Sorry, I didn’t realize that hard work and taking pride in your craft no longer pays any dividends on the field?  That’s not a generational thing, it’s a universal truth, as relevant as the concept of gravity. Knock it all you want, but character still matters.

Then why did Tom "Deflated Balls" Brady, Bill "Tape Your Practice" Belichick, and Robert "Cheat on Girlfriend with Prostitute" Kraft win yet another ring while we are stuck doing mental gymnastics justifying losing year after year?

Character and work ethic are two different things. Talent and work ethic are really all you need, everything else is just to make you feel good.

  6. Beane WANTS Allen to play more like Russ but its pretty clear which of the two QBs he plays most like. Does that mean he will for the rest of his career? Remains to be seen but this kid's ceiling to me, IN MY OPINION (relax guys don't get upset), is to have a Cam-like career with SLIGHTLY better passing stats.

Belichick. His record with backup QBs speaks for itself.

Are you referring to his .500 NFL record (same as Rex) pre-Brady?

Going 11-5 with Matt Cassel who is a fine back up QB isn't impressive especially with the roster they had. Keep in mind Rex went to two straight AFC championship games with Sanchez.

Belichick is a fantastic coach, but Brady bails him out more than the other way around. Boneheaded calls in game, boneheaded draft picks, boneheaded free agency moves, Brady covers that all up.

Okay. So what has Cleveland earned? Just asking.

I understand what you are trying to say, but anyone paying at least SOME attention to the league should understand why Cleveland is getting the hype, whether it's "deserved" or not. If Josh Allen in year  two can match, over 16 games, what Baker did in 14 last year, people on this board will be giving him a gold jacket. I mean for the love of god, there is a thread going on right now saying that Josh Allen will be the MVP next year. I really don't think we are in a position to be criticizing other teams getting chatter.
