Also, something to think about is how the Bills ranked in pass rush tendencies last season vs. say the Broncos..Check it out here. What will they need to do more or less of to get by?

Thank you! What are your thoughts on Corbin Bryant as a starting caliber DT? I think he could start on some teams. I'm very nervous about blitzing so much especially against the Cardinals.
I do think he could start on some teams for two reasons. Bryant is a blue collar hard working type guy and because he has very good technique in all areas. As far as blitzing, the Bills will have to be very cautious against them. They like to push the ball down field w speed and have some amazing talent out of the backfield. I'll save my scouting report for the season but does that sound like an offense we know? As the Bills offense elevates their game our defense will to. Is it week one yet?

Rex will have to tweak the defense a little without his star defensive tackle. Here are a couple things he will do.
-
I can see Deaderick or the other NT guy they just signed making the roster while Dareus is supended. I think it is a battle between the 2 new guys and Casey Walker for 1 spot.
Yeah I think it is a long shot for the new guys. But Deaderick def has a shot bc of familiarity with scheme.
appreciate your work. Just responding to the snarky "Super Bowl" comments -
I know, no biggie lol

Does it matter if he won't be on the 53?
Nope. Def could be just a camp body. Just wanted to highlight how Rob used him.

Unlike the NBA and MLB, the NFL has actually taken recent steps to lessen punishment for positive Cannabis tests(See Josh Gordon). A tangible example of this was the raising of the threshold for a positive test from 15 nanograms per milliliter to 35ng/ml.
In addition the NFL uses suspension as a last resort, coming into effect after the fourth positive test.
That shouldnt surprise anyone given that the NFL, more than any other sport, does everything it can to keep players on the field.
Here is the NFL breakdown:
First Infraction Mandatory Rehabilitation Program
Second Infraction 2 Game Fine (Can Play Un-Paid)
Third Infraction 4 Game Fine (Can Play Un-Paid)
Fourth Infraction 4 Game Suspension
Fifth Infraction 10 Game Suspension

Thats right, the NHL does NOT include Cannabis on its list of banned substances
Great stuff Ryan

Brandon Deaderick has played in the Ryan brothers scheme before, but he wasn't graded well at all! Film and advanced stats included..

Looks fast, covers well. Hoping Browns in the middle is worth looking forward to.
he doesn't always stick to his keys, but he has the athleticism to overcome it.
-
Zach Brown has all of the tools to be a star in Rex Ryan's defense.
-
It is a passing league. Get rid of all the fullbacks. They are not needed. If they need a big body in the backfiled they can make Karlos Williams block, a TE, or any random spare OL/DL. FB is useless. Felton wasn't even any good last year. I would much rahter keep an extra - well pretty much any extra position except punter and long-snapper over a FB.
Roman has to have a fullback in his offense. Felton did struggle at times but that was only in space. If you go to My Cover 1 site and watch the why it worked series u will see that Felton made quite the difference on a lot of our TDs.
-
If his name wasn't Gronkowski I don't think that he'd be with a team. He doesn't do anything particularly well and is limited athletically.
Totally agree. I gave him he benefit of the doubt too. But after watching that film idk if I would waste a practice squad position on him. Practice squad players typically run scout team for starters Thye are relied upon to resemble oposing teams players and give the 1st teamed a good looks. Will he do that for our team? I don't think so.
-
He struggled in his first game. Couldn't sustain blocks. Didn't get w chance to show his receiving skills. PFF grades him as worse Bills player (-2.4) and a -1.5 run blocking grade (not going to cut it). Watch his film below and tell me does it look like he may make this team? I don't think he will.

just remember that the bar he needs to surpass here is IK. If he doesn't sucker punch anyone, line up offsides constantly or get catfished and attack a guy disguised as a woman with a blanket over his/her head then it's a win IMO

Here is a Kroy Biermann breakdown with video and advanced stats

He only played 263 snaps last season not even 25% of their snaps. 7.7% pass rush productivity which as good for 56th amongst guys that took 25% of the snaps... O sacks, 8 QB hurries, 12 tackles, 8 stops. Allowed 11 catches on 14 targets for 128 yds, 95 YAC, 0 TDs, 1 INT....That is not tradeworthy imo
-
LOL! How do you get that they are "different in every way right out of the box"?
And while I like CJ's potential, remember that EJ had a far better first-ever pre-season game against none other than the Colts back in 2013, except he was going against 1st and 2nd stringers.
Valid points. Take into account the system, no expectations for a 5th rounder and pure arm talent Cardale fits better than EJ did when he came in.
-
This Kid is the perfect developmental QB. Hope Bills can set a new precedent , in giving players time to get up to speed.
Might have been part of what screwed up EJ honestly.
Jones was fun to watch, as he was having a blast
All three of these prior comments are spot on. He played well, his fundamentals are still lacking at time but his big arm makes up for it. He is perfect for this offense. The right mix of arm and legs. But his accuracy is lacking. Great outing overall.
-
Quite a few players made impressions on me, here are a few. Pro Football Focus' advanced stats and videos included. Also included are every throw by an impressive outing by Cardale.

Audio and Video from Rex Ryan's book how to teach the 4-6 defense. Check it out paired with some video evidence from the Bills vs. Colts. Kyle Williams gets 1 on 1 and hits Luck leading to an incompletion.

The question mark here is his ability to take on a block, much like you displayed Lawson to do. We figure he is quick enough to cover and definitely has pass rushing ability. I hope Rex throws that position to the wolves and offers little support tonight. Let's see if anyone can seperate themselves from the pack
Definitely his weakness. One thing that Rex does to help guys like he and Hughes are let them freestyle. When the Bills are in their 3-4 look the Rush LB is often given freedom to use his quickness etc to make a play. Not always, but sometimes. That could help Striker in some cases.
-
Excited to see Bryson Albright and Eric Striker to see if there is any potential there
Definitely keeping an eye on Striker, I hope he can carve out a niche on this team.
-
Who do you have as his current replacement? Having not heard anything, I can't help but yo be
pessimistic regarding a week one return.
Yeah that does worry me, from what I heard Lorenzo Alexander and IK Enemkpali are filling in at Sam.
-
You gotta pick your spots using Sammy in the slot.
I can see it on a big 3rd and three late in the 4th quarter, but other than that we don't want linebackers hitting him.
If he gets hurt we are totally screwed.
Definitely, I am not saying every play but you have to move him around. That is what scheming is, creating mismatches and using him in the slot creates mismatches...
-
Thanks for posting.
To me, this play is less about Manny Lawson and more about Mr. Big Stuff.
He eats up both the Center/Guard combination w/o losing much, if any, ground. This allows Preston Brown to flow untouched. Sure, Manny does an excellent job of containing the play and squeezing the gap, but in the end it is really Dareus that makes this play IMO.
LMFAO on Gronk/Hughes though
Yeah it is a defensive unit effort, I was trying to highlight the technique used by Manny. If he doesn't squeeze that gap Blount could have bounced it etc.
Kevon Seymour's technique is impressive

I broke down his film from the Colts game on Cover 1, and I know it is the preseason but his man cover techniques are impressive. Add that to his physical talents and the Bills could have struck gold.. I think he could play the slot corner position..Reports are that he has taken a few snaps there, thoughts?
