Former Bills TE Lee Smith wants you to give Ken Dorsey a break!  He spoke with Matt Parrino and Ryan Talbot of the Bills SHOUT podcast to discuss some of the fan criticism.

Before you trash Lee…he was also complimentary of the fan base and he does think great things are on the horizon next year.  Here’s what he said:

Now we’re bitching about 13-win seasons, so it’s like give me a break,” Smith said on the show. “I’m anti-fan sometimes. I watched Josh Allen get booed off the field when I first came back (in 2019). So it’s like give me a break. Stay on your couch and worry about how you make a living and not about Ken Dorsey. He’s a really good coach. He’s a really good man.”

Ken Dorsey, Josh Allen the combination of those two dudes man - just take a deep breath, relax,” Smith said. “Obviously Daboll was really, really good. Dorse will fix (it). It’s his first year being a coordinator man. Go back to Brian Daboll’s first year being a coordinator. I’m not sure if it was great or bad or anywhere in between - I wasn’t with Dabes his first year as a coordinator but give (Dorsey) a break. Nobody wants to fix those little inefficiencies more than Ken Dorsey does. Let him attack this offseason.”

Watch what Dorse and Josh do next year together. It’s gonna be scary guys,” Smith said. “I’m just telling y’all, I’m telling y’all right now the Buffalo Bills are going to be terrifying next year with the rejuvenation and the healing that hopefully takes place this offseason. Just from this crazy tragic eight months.”

Let’s hope that Lee Smith is right!  I have my reservations about him as OC.

**** him. 13 seconds was a complete coaching collapse. We pay the bills and can hold them to whatever standard we want. Lee is entitled to his opinion as far as I am concerned can have a seat.

Dorsey or Daboll ? ... The same criticisms heaped on Dorsey are the same ones that were being heaped on Daboll in 2020 and 2021. Poor red zone play calls, RB's a second or third thought.

Dorsey had some problems but for long stretches, the only ones slowing down the Bills offense was the Bills offense. Dorsey didn't throw any INT's, or put the ball on the carpet drop passes or get flagged for penalties.

Not by me. Daboll used plays to setup other plays down the road. Cover 1 and others that break down film would routinely highlight what the plan was and where maybe there was a failure to execute, but here was always a plan.

Dorsey had multiple professionals throughout the year (Kurt Warner, Orlovsky, Barnwell, Joe, Cover 1 etc) say they didn't understand his route schemes. He constantly had receivers together in the same area. The oline struggles were real but then why wouldn't you use the pass catching running backs you took in the 2nd round and TRADED FOR in season. The offence ran out of gas because the offense ran out of ideas. Josh's QB rating is through the roof when moving to his right. Where were the designed play action roll outs? Why not put everyone on the move and help out a bad oline? Dorsey's only plan by the end of the season was to put Josh is a shotgun 5 step drop and get him killed. He used him like a fullback. He should have been fired mid season.

I don't care if Josh trusts him. Someone needs to protect him from himself.

The whole Tre White situation to start the year was strange at first, but then you seen him get on the field, and you realized why he wasn't playing.  The guy was not very good this year at all.  Some will blame the injury, but how many games you going to give a guy till he is back to playing up to his very large payday?

I think White will never be what he was.  He looked old out there, even after just playing 5 or 6 games this year.  I also think his playing style limits the entire defense on the type of defense we can play.  He does not excel in press man and needs to play off guys.  I personally think this team needs to play more press man.  Tough to transition to that when your "number 1" CB and 16 million dollar man can't play it at a top level.

Problem with White is, you can't get out of his contract.  His dead cap is higher than if he is on the team.

The only option I really see, is if Taron Johnson takes over for Poyer at safety.  Tre moves to nickel corner where he will be less exposed on an island, and you bring in another press man outside CB to pair with Elam.  Elam's strength is press man and it was really head scratching you drafted him and then played him in a zone.

Thank God we have Dr. Back2Buff to diagnose Tre's medical condition and his long term prognosis. I feel incredibly fortunate.

Coaches have been fired for way less. People in western NY are psychologically broken by the drought that are convinced you have to be married to a coach because he got you to the playoffs. Not only that but every year the coaching staff has been a big reason for the loss in the playoffs. He’s the same guy he’s always been. He hasn’t gotten better as evident as this last playoff game. He’s not a top 10 coach, and if you want to win the Super Bowl you need to be open to finding that person. And I guarantee if you can identify that person and there are plenty of options they aren’t turning this job down.  Buffalo use to be a place no one wanted to go now you would have to fight people off for not wanting to come here. I thank McDermott for his time here but enough is enough.

He lost me last year after "13 seconds" he refused to take and ownership of it. He didn't want to talk about it or answer any questions on how it happened. His game day management has not improved and he doesn't seem willing to either change his ways or put someone else in charge of those decisions.  I come away feeling for him "The Process" is for everyone else.

It's not personal and I think he is probably a great guy and in some ways a very good coach. But he's not a great coach and has now cost us more than one look at a championship.  Allen is freak of nature that should be in or near the big game every year. McD makes it harder than it needs to be because by his actions he is not up to it.

Didn’t even bothering reading your boring out of touch lecture about how we are all wrong that McDermott isn’t the guy. How you like that? He’s been bad since he punted in the snow game  6 years ago on 4th and short in a game they had to win. Please god grow a pair and get rid of this coach.

    Love this.

    Thank you

Listened to them this morning. Cappacio is exasperating. His words are measured, and he sounds more like a company man. I think he's too fond of being on the sidelines and flying with the team.

I could not agree with this more. Whenever there is a struggle with this team Sal sounds like an apologist. It comes off like you say as he doesn't want to lose his access. He really has to choose. This morning he was defending Dorsey by saying they can't change because Josh will have to "learn a new system". This is a nonsense argument as QB's do it all the time. They can Taylor the language to fit. This isn't the Cub Scouts. The Bills get no credit for trying and we can't blow our SB window on a guy that may or may not "learn" and get better.

Who do you think should win? My vote is for Daboll:

    1. He inherited a team with almost no talent outside Saquon Barkley and currently has them in the 2nd round of the playoffs.

    2. He turned Danny Dimes into a threat at QB and legitimately makes him look like a poor-man’s Allen.

    3. His already talent-deprived team was further decimated by injuries - especially at WR, and they basically have an entire new WR Corps from Week 1 and are all performing at a high level. It’s super impressive.

    4. Daboll’s massive watermelons between his legs set the tone for the season week 1 when his team went up agains the Titans, who were 12-5 last season, and instead of playing to not lose, he played to win and went for 2 late in the game with a minute left to win the game.

I miss that man. Im very happy for him. He deserves to win AP Coach of the Year.

The exact same thing McD did in 2017 after (checks notes) 17 year playoff drought. But New York I guess.

Nobody has overcome more than Buffalo this year. Tops, Dawson's brother, Micah, first snow storm (3 games in 12 days), Von, Second storm (killed 40 people and stuck in Chicago), then Damar. I just don't understand how he's not in consideration.

I tend to agree with this option.  I think it is the fairest way to go forward.  I would even go so far as to say that a way could be figured

out to give the Bengals a slight (over 50%) chance to win the game due to the fact they were leading in the game.

11 Bengals balls and 9 Bills balls in the Lotto machine type situation and go on with the season.

This is not unprecedented in sports, as one could look to the NHL Draft.

The only question left would be, does the Lottery happen before or after this weekend's games.

Absolutely not. The "game was 1/2 of one quarter. The Bills certainly would have gone of 4th and short if they knew that was it. Come on. 50/50

NFL Reddit streams is priced pretty nicely.

Yeah, literally all of them. Never had an issue with the streams. They are fantastic.

I have nothing but problems. They consistently get shutdown and you have to wade through all the pop ups and ads. I will gladly pay for a consistent functional service that works every time. DTV wouldn't sell us the ticket for years because we had no line of site for service (neighbors trees) but said I did so I couldn't have it. Was a mess and I am happy to get it now.

Just go with an IPTV service ^

I got this because of this recommendation over the summer. I live in Albany but not every game is on so I needed a backup. Bang for your buck it's unbelievable. It's my go to plan B for everything. The other night the local NBC on Sunday Night Football runs a scroll at 11:00 to let people know the news is coming. They leave it up for 20 minutes. To make room they compress the screen so everyone looks funny. Drives me crazy so I switched over to this and tuned into virtually any other NBC station in the country.

  11. Jerry reminds me of the analytics guys that refused to come off their spot even after Josh turned the corner and insisted he still wasn't as good as we were all seeing. He was so stuck in the drought era inept Bills that when they became what they are now he never evolved. His shtick became tiresome and inaccurate. We are no longer fans of a woebegone franchise, but he still acted like they were and needed to be called out as such.

Does it make bubble screens impossible, cause we don't run those either. The offense we run does not preclude those.

This also right. If you watched the Chargers 80% of their passes were outside either at or behind the LOS. We could definitely set ourselves up for success on the outside.
