It's obvious he was walking forward until the ref grabbed him. If the ref wouldn't have grabbed him he would have kept walking forward.
-
Two components are needed for this play to be called a penalty. The defender must be over the long snapper AND he must be within 1 yard of the LOS.
While it is true that Hightower was over the LS (until the ref corrected him) it is also true that Hightower was beyond the 1 yard mark and so was legally lined-up. Not only was this not a penalty but the ref should not have re-positioned Hightower out of his perfectly legal placement.
The rule in question:
Bull. Hightower is clearly walking right up to the LOS and stopped by the ref grabbing him. Watch it again:

When was the last time you saw this penalty called?
Bam. Last week Colts vs. Texans.
The Texans began to mount a comeback in the second quarter, however, as a stupid penalty by Zach Kerr on a Texans field goal try (illegal formation for lining up over the center) led to an insane Andre Johnson touchdown catch, then Luck was picked and a few plays later Arian Foster ran for a score to make it 24-14 Colts.http://www.stampedeblue.com/2014/10/9/6955243/colts-vs-texans-second-half-open-thread
I would not be surprised if the majority of those were minor false start penalties.
33 out of the 63 penalties the Patriots have this season are only 5-yard penalties.

When was the last time you saw this penalty called?
This year. And yes, I will find it. I'm looking now.
-
Then why does the penalty get called if the refs is suppose to be move the player.
This. Someone please explain? How does anyone ever get called for lining up over center?
-
So let me break it down all in one post:
-The Patriots are "the most penalized team in the league" so far this year but more than half of their penalties are 5-yarders.
-So far this season, they've had more defensive pass interference penalties called against their opponents than any team in the league.
-So far this season, they've had the second most offensive pass interference penalties called against their opponents of any team in the league.
-Last season, they had the second most defensive pass interference penalties called against their opponents of any team in the league.
-Last season, they had the third most offensive pass interference penalties called against their opponents of any team in the league.
-In 2012, they had the second most defensive pass interference penalties called on opponents out of any team in the entire league.
Yeah, that seems like a total coincidence.
See for yourselves: http://www.nflpenalt...iots?&year=2014

More than half of the Patriots penalties this season have only been for 5 yards.
Meanwhile, they're ranked 1st in the league as the beneficiary of the most defensive pass interference calls called against their opponents and have the 2nd most beneficial calls for offensive pass interference against their opponents.
If people can't see how much of a difference those two groups of penalties can make for a team I don't know what else to tell them.
And lastast season, the Patriots had the 2nd most defensive pass interference penalties called against their opponents and the 3rd most offensive pass interference penalties called on their opponents in the entire league.

C'mon man. that is just not true. They are averaging the 2nd most yards penalized per game. The most penalties per game. They are at -208 yds for the season in penalty yards gained V lost.
What does that have to do with WHEN the penalties occur?
-
They are now 32-0 at Gillette Stadium against AFC teams in the regular season. That's more than just being a great team. That's the team of the most influential owner in the league getting beneficial call after beneficial call at critical moments, as well as being a great team for an extended period.
I never believed that before. I thought it was coincidence that the Patriots always seemed to get lucky calls. Not anymore.
All I had to do was ask myself "How many times have I heard national broadcasters say that the Bills got robbed on a call?" The answer was quite a few. Then I asked myself "How many times have I heard national broadcasters say the Patriots got robbed on a call?" The answer was never.
People claiming the Patriots are the most penalized team in the league obviously aren't watching when these penalties occur. If someone were to take the time to actually break down penalties for the Pats and their opponents and rate them as either "relatively insignificant" IE. holding on 1st & 10, or as "significant/game-changing" IE. PI bringing back a 20+ yard catch or anything giving them an automatic 1st after a 3rd down I bet the results would show obvious bias.
-
I've been wondering this for a couple years now. I think it's ridiculous they can't.
-
The refs were the main reason we lost to the Pats. I was stunned not one person was pissed about this on this board after the game.
Instead it was the same reaction after almost every loss. These coaches suck, spiller sucks, our d sucks, hackett sucks on and on....
I think you missed this one twobillsdrive whiners.
I was too pissed to even post about it. I'm now 100% convinced anyone that plays the Patriots has to play the Pats as well as the refs.
-
God I hate the Patriots.
-
Refs do what they can to help the Patriots win. I never really bought into that until this past Sunday's Bills game. I'm now convinced.

Is signing Incognito in hopes of improving our line any different than drafting Kiko even though he had a DUI and violent run-in with the cops? What about Trading for Mike Williams who had just been stabbed in the leg by his brother a few weeks before? Or drafting our new starting RT even though every other team in the league passed on him because his problem with weed?
-
Why not? We've signed plenty of guys in the past 2 years that other teams shied away from due to character concerns.
-
I don't really know what your point is, dude. You say the Bills have the worst OG situation in the NFL, and thus, should go out and sign Richie Incognito. I point out that there are other teams with horrible situations at OG (which you dismiss) yet none of them have reached out to Incognito. There is a good reason for that.
What is your point exactly?
My point is that the Bills should sign Richie Incognito to play at guard this year.
-
Who cares who the Chargers have at guard as long as they're winning? That's my point. The Bills AREN'T WINNING IN SPITE OF THEIR GUARDS.
And I'd say continuing to let the division slip away with this much talent on the roster is the biggest form of career suicide there is. This team can still go 10-6 and beat out the Patriots with better guard play. They certainly won't if the guard play stays consistently this bad.
-
I'm pretty over Spiller. I was waiting for this season as confirmation and now that we're almost halfway through the season I'd rather see the money spent elsewhere when his contract is up.
-
The whole point is that our guard play can be directly pointed to for causing us to lose games. We've rushed for less than 100 yards total in each game we've lost this season and rushed for over 100 yards in every win with the single exception of the Lions game, which we would have lost had their kicker not missed 3 FGs.
Even if there is a guard or two starting somewhere in the league that are a little worse than ours, I doubt they're as much of a reason for their team losing as ours is for the Bills. This team absolutely needs to be able to run successfully to get anything going this season or we're going to lose a lot more "sure wins" than just the Texans game. The defense is fine. The passing game with Orton is fine. Our special teams is fine. Our running game, because of our guards, is not. It's the only thing holding us back.
I don't care if they had to clone Hitler to throw some pads on him and put him at G if he would be an upgrade over what we have now. Do it. People will care a lot less when we're winning games.
-
Not super complicated, but an ill informed statement IMO. Have you noticed who SD is trotting out there at OG, the Eagles, the Falcons? There are several other teams with interior offensive line issues equal to or greater than Buffalo's.
Yet, perennial all pro Ritchie Incognito remains at home. Obviously there is a reason for that.
San Diego and the Eagles seem to be doing fine with their Guards. Proof of that is in their records. Saying their need at guard is greater than the Bills' is reaching.
-
So why is Incognito available then if other trans need help at guard?
Because they don't want to take the chance on him? And I'm saying we need the help at that position worse than they do so we should?
-
So every team in the NFL but the Bills is set at a key position? I'm gonna have to disagree with you there.
That's not what I said? I said that the Bills are in more dire need of an upgrade at guard than any other team in the league right now. I didn't think it was super complicated statement.

Write-off their playoff chances.

If it's such common practice then why has that penalty been called on other teams this season?
I'm sick of people constantly making excuses for the Patriots always getting favorable and questionable calls their way.
