the same way it seems to be going right now.  it's been two years and no end in sight.  ukraine has had about 400k casualties from the war in two years.  look, we all agree russia shouldn't have invaded them but they did.  now you have to make a choice of what's best for the future of ukraine. do you negoitate a peace deal where russia keeps part of ukraine so the rebuilding of the country can begin?  or just keep throwing good money into the country and 2-5 years from now they lose most of their population who are of age to work and have families and so on?

it would be a cool story if ukraine managed to beat russia but reality is starting to hit home and it seems the odds of that are getting slimmer by the month. we thought taking the oligarchs money would work, we thought putin was dying, we thought the people of russia would revolt, russia would run out of money etc. none of which has worked. it's just an endless war at this point.

If Ukraine loses, it will be because somehow Ukraine was outproduced, even though it's supported by a block comprising about 50% of the human race's total economic production.

If Ukraine loses, it will be because we and our allies are exactly as weak as BRICS and the rest of the Russo-Chinese block think we are.

I don't want the bad old days to come back, and our grandfathers didn't rebuild the world for our benefit for us to piss it all away.

    Uniparty?

On the one hand i agree, the political class is largely in it for themselves and they always make sure to benefit from their position.

On the other hand...~75% support is hard to deny. Or should the USA be ruled by 25%?

"Uniparty" seems to mean "the adults in the room who are interested in governing and compromise".

Russia's done it twice, under both Obama and Biden

Ukraine is paying the price for Obama's spinelessness in Syria (I remember Putin rolling tanks ove Obama's red lines).  Ditto Crimea.

You can't blame Russia for thinking Obama's VP would act in the same fashion, especially given how fractious our domestic politics are right now.

The only reason why Ukraine still exists is because Russia thought this would be Crimea, Part II and planned accordingly.

  4. So trimming back all the hyperbole from the perpetual outrage machine...

Iran sent over 300 drones, cruise missiles and ballistic missiles at Israel.

Israeli air defenses, supported by the US, UK and France, shot down 99% of them.

The results are, some minimal damage to an IDF base, and a little girl in critical condition.

... I'm sure Israel is quaking in their boots right now Iran, you really showed them!

    Florida potentially in play now:

Florida Supreme Court allows recreational marijuana, abortion amendments on 2024 ballot

I wonder if the Dems start putting real money into the state given how these referendums have been going lately. Should be a natural bump in turnout on the left.

I wouldn't trust the Florida Democratic Party to poor piss out of a boot.

DeSanctimonious uses them as a speed bag, and he's one of the worst political strategists around.

The government giving people money for doing nothing is socialism. Social security is a form of socialism, it's in the title. I am 100% against all socialism. Handing illegal immigrants debit cards and paying for their hotels is the absolute epitome of socialism. You should get out of life what you put into it.

You only qualify for Title 2 benefits if you have worked and paid taxes for at least ten years. This is called being "insured". Or are married to someone that has.

People can and do stop paying social security taxes. Usually folks who work under the table, contractors, some union jobs, and railroad workers.

There are stupid, lazy people who think social security is an unconditional entitlement payout, aka socialism. They also tend to be shocked when they call in and find out they are not "insured" because they have not paid enough into the system. Or because they've paid nothing in at all.

So the battle for Belgorod continues.  Supposedly some of the Freedom of Russia separatists are former Wagner.  Maybe they'll recruit more.

Russia is getting thumped but they'll like push back the separatists due to their size/equipment.   There are more circus type clips of the inept Russian army being posted.  Going in to breach a building but blowing themselves up with a grenade first.  Not sure how Putin hasn't died from embarrassment.

Still very little coverage by larger media outlets.

Russia's main supply routes probably run much further east sadly. Ukraine punches into Belgorod oblast fairly regularly, and while they are brutal, callous and inefficient, Russia isn't stupid anymore. Well, they're much less stupid than they were.

Nobody's getting much more than 6-8 weeks of training before they get deployed in this war. The average standard of infantry skill isn't gonna be great. But that's what happens in conventional wars, the world had just forgotten becaus of Europe's Long Peace, and because the Greatest Generation has died off.

Very serious country that we’re fighting a proxy war with..

So not only are you advertising NPC tweets from NPC twitter accounts, you're also advertising for Ukrainian pornstars?

    #nuance

    #criticalthinking

But if you want to watch some serious video about the war, here's two squads of Russians getting mowed down by Bradleys and drones.

There's no tweets or cleavage though, and it's very, very NSFW. You've been warned.

The question is, absent direct NATO involvement in combat operations, what does anyone think we can supply that will push the Russians back?  As the biggest issue is they're losing the war of attrition and running out of well-trained and capable combat soldiers.

Yes. Which is why they need ample supplies of artillery ammunition and SAM ammunition. When Ukraine has these two things, Russian advances halt and Ukrainian casualties drop.

Not exactly a huge ask, no?

What an utter scumbag Bi-dumb is.

I thought the SOTU was to update the American citizens on policy, not yell the entire time with vile and hatred towards said citizens.

    Some unifier in chief.

Yet, the GOP is running the only candidate from their field who could possibly lose to "Bi-Dumb", and he's s just as old, and just as polarizing.

I'm so glad both parties have the good of the country at heart.

I would call those war crimes from Hamas, yes. Your “whataboutism” debate tactics annoy me. You don’t see me arguing that the Arab world should level Haifa and Tel Aviv because of the Gaza genocide.

Let’s imagine this scenario: a small group of armed killers are loose in your neighborhood. They are hiding in backyards and bushes and basements…possibly digging tunnels between properties, too. The SWAT team arrives, barricades the neighborhood perimeter, hurriedly tells everyone to leave the premises, proceeds to firebomb all the houses, and ends up killing dozens of residents in the process…including your loved ones! How would you feel?? Would you accept this outcome as the necessary cost of stopping crime? Or would you not-so-politely request that the police force consider more calculated and more precise measures and protocols?

Kay, I appreciate the fact that your posts are tweet free, reflect original thinking, and use polysyllabic words.

This subforum does not. Look forward to being trolled for not fitting into terminally online meme complexes.

Do, however, enjoy observing what a successful "fill the space with *****" influence operation looks like.
