  1. I would actually be very surprised if Fred gets claimed. He is a great guy/teammate/player, can still find daylight, and can fall forward - but there just simply is no getting past his age. Not many teams paring down their rosters are going to be looking to sign a thirty four and a half year old running back. For those of you asking why... Age is a pretty obvious reason. You would respect and support Whaley more if he came out and said "fred is just too damn old"???

  2. A few things to note, and I had to double-check the numbers I collected earlier... It seems our NFL experienced returners (Leo, Thig, Fred) all seem to have a high percentage of fair catch (around 50 percent) and about 10 yards per average (both around NFL average). Woods has a fairly low percentage of fair catches (16 percent) and only about 5 yards per return.

Unless the FC statistic is not included in the attempts, not sure here, but the but the point would remain. Another NFL PR man that doesn't seem to take many fair catches, or perhaps went unrecorded, was De'Anthony Thomas - and he seemed to do alright (with a 12 yard per return metric - no pun intended)

I would love to see Woods develop in this area, but with only one NFL punt return on record, he does seem to be a bit under disciplined for the role. I think it would be still a good idea to keep Thigpen around if possible - or just give the duty to Fast Aging Freddie.

  3. I try my hardest to not draft Bills players, usually because I over-value them, and in the past they have had very drastic up and down weeks. The exception to that is that I allow myself to pick them off waivers if they become available and look like they might go on a hot streak for a few weeks. If the Buffalo D is going so high, I probably wont touch them either. Its just too easy to pick up defense every week and nab average points. I do not dedicate a bench slot for defense on bye week - so that is most likely my biggest reason.

A good reason I wont touch Sammy early this year, is because I feel there are other weapons that will pickup short and intermediate routes while Sammy gets the extra coverage, not to mention the TE and RB outlets available - and because we don't have Aaron Rodgers sitting in the pocket. Round 6 would be very tempting though. With that said, at this juncture, its pretty tough to predict the value of Buffalo passing game - with uncertainty of the TE contributions and guarantee of pounding the rock quite a bit. If our defense is very good, the offense wont be looking to make up huge margins of points in the air.

I like Karlos for a last round bench stash, hypothetically. But I swear, I won't draft him. ;-)

  4. For some reason, I assumed we had all sorts of punt returners - but after taking a gander, it looks pretty thin previous experience wise.

    NFL PUNT RETURN EXPERIENCE

    Leodis att-92, yds-1000, TD's-3, Faircatch-49, Long-88 (7seasons [89 games])

    Thiggy att-76, yds-800, TD's-2, Faircatch-39, Long-75 (4seasons [41 games])

    FredEx att-16, yds-190, TD's-0, Faircatch-10, Long-35 (4seasons [54 games])

    COLLEGE PUNT RETURN EXPERIENCE

    Woods att-37, yds-183, TD's-0, Faircatch-6, Long-31 (3 collegiate seasons) *only one NFL return for 11 yds

    Sammy att-9, yds-23, TD's-0, Faircatch-3, Long-12 (3 collegiate seasons)

    A.Willy att-14, yds-86, TD's-0, Faircatch-3, Long-25 (1 collegiate season)

    Gilmore att-45, yds-206, TD's-0, Faircatch-17, Long-35 (3 collegiate seasons)

    Robey att-27, yds-208, TD's-0, Faircatch-7, Long-44 (2 collegiate seasons)

    Lankstr att-26, yds-171, TD's-0, Faircatch-6, Long-36 (1 collegiate season)

Was surprised Percy didnt receive any punts in his career, nor Mcoy, Bryce, Karlos, Easley, Goodwin. There was a BR writeup on this back in July - however it doesnt really offer much insight. Still, I no longer have wam fuzzies about PR game like I did before doing this research. Thigpen is our only dynamic punt return guy if the Irish guy is sitting. I guess Woods can take a crack at it since we have all sorts of WR depth????

  5. I remember the very single moment the Tampa Bay Buccaneers announced they "lost" their first pick of the first round in the 2015 NFL Draft by trading it for the ability to pay Jameis Winston to be their newly appointed franchise QB. Wouldn't they rather have 24 million dollars? What Idiots... But its even worse that we lost three whole draft picks and were forced to pay Sammy Watkins 20 million ... Sammy must be very greedy if he demanded three draft picks and 20 million dollars, when Jameis only consumed one draft pick and 24 million Next year, I hope we hold on to the pick... and the money... screw the draft. What a bunch of slugs.

  6. I wonder just how many owner buddies Kraft has at this moment.

Anyhew heres a link to the Constitution and ByLaws of the NFL - although dated 2006 not sure if its current:

    http://www.nfl.com/static/content/public/static/html/careers/pdf/co_.pdf

    - I found interest in reading sections 3.11A/C/F, 6.5A/B, Most of Article8 - especially 8.13, 9.1C4

    - 3.11C basically strikes down any counter-suits to Goodell from Kraft, doesn't it?

    - 6.5B says penalties and fines could indeed increase if warranted?

    - 9.1C4 indicates that the criticism may only be directed at the commish, but not the league or anyone in it.

    - This Constitution basically says, the Commish can do whatever he wants for basically whatever reason he wants to create (as I interpret)

And here is the CBA - "The provisions of which supercede any conflicting provision - including NFL Constituiton, Contracts, Rules.."

    https://nflpaweb.blob.core.windows.net/media/Default/PDFs/General/2011_Final_CBA_Searchable_Bookmarked.pdf

    - I found Article 46 section 1A and 2A of interest - this documents a little too big to even skim within reason.

    - Again, Commish has every power in the world to do what he pleases, as he pleases. (as I interpret)

I didn't see anything specific about voting out owners a la Donald Sterling style, but I guess what I am driving at, is with all this posturing, and publicity - The League and the owners really gotta be thinking to themselves that this nonsense is anything but good for their overall image. At what point do they consider cutting Kraft loose? Demands apologies? Dude, your man cheated, don't defend him...

  7. Agreed, you don't take the risk without some percieved benefit. Those who argue he palyed better int he second half are, I believe, missing the point. This has been going on for years since they lobbied for the teams to control the balls and the fumble rate mysteriously dropped like a lead balloon. One half is a small sample size. Try this over seasons and maybe you've got something.

Belichick will sit good players for a fumble. He'd do just about ANYTHING to reduce turnover. Hmmm.

    Outward facing labels.

  8.

I liked the thread about how Brady provided a spreadsheet with the names of everyone he texted.....the NFL was supposed to go get all of those people's records which would have essentially given them Brady's records. They bought into this completely ignoring the fact that Brady might not have provided the complete list and also ignoring the fact that they couldn't necessarily get text records from all of these other people just for the asking. It goes on for pages. It is really pathetic.

I also read way too far into that thread. Practical? blah bla blah.. Spyhate, blah bla, cellphone "destroyed" ??? wtf...

I almost went to the kitchen to grab a stack of toothpicks so I could jam them in my eyes.

  9. Rumors around Freeman included some substantial drug abuse issues (not talking stuff like pot) and that he's gay (not that there's anything wrong with that). Again, just rumors, but persistent ones.

I can't find any clips to demonstrate - but I remember when he came in for the Vikings, the whole time he was playing I noticed how weird his eyes looked. They were so wide open, and he just seemed to have a substance influenced composure/posture. Maybe its because he was nervous or anxious on his way to a QBR of 3.2 or whatever that day. I dunno

Anyway, as much potential he seemed to have five years ago - I think its gone, and so do the teams he tries out for. Jeff Tuel can stick on a roster, but Josh Freeman can't? That is enough for me to say "Funk dat".

  10. If a company offers me 3 million more, I'd say my loyalties shift awfully quick. I don't care who I am working with for a couple years...Also, discounts would be good if I were playing for a team in Sunny San Diego because I would feel so pleased to be in such a beautiful place - even if you don't allow me a portable fridge in the locker room. If you want me to stay here in the snow, better get your checkbook out.

  11. I want him to play week 2 and I want the Bills D to dismantle him. Beating the Patriots with Jimmy Garopolo won't mean anything.

I want him to play week 2 because if not I fear that Billy Bellyache** finds a way to cheat Jeanine* to victory. I would never ever ever hear the end of it from the Pats** peanut gallery. And it would burn my brain trying to think how much money that ay-whole has paid to the refs over the years. I can only hope Rex has a Dr. Evil master plan to finally bring down the cheating reign of the dirty cheating cheats.

    ** = proven/known dirty cheaters

    * = potential future dirty sucky cheater (a.k.a - cheater by association to dirty cheaters)
