Feels like we have a wild number of OL for a group that has 7 likely locks (Starters + Van Pran & Collins) and two guys we’ve spent two years developing (Anderson & Van Demark).

Maybe we always do this and I never paid attention.

This is normal.  They usually have around 15 oline guys so they can have 3 lines for training camp.

I think that's the right pick for the Jets long term. My #10 overall player. HOWEVER, he can only play LT IMO. So how does he get on the field this year if Tyron Smith is healthy? It seems odd to spend your first rounder in an all or nothing win or bust year for your GM, HC and QB on a guy who might not get on the field.

It's the Jets baby!! What do you expect?

  3. Personnel changes happen every year.  Some years more than others.  These players were good Bills and gave us some exciting times as fans.  We all had hoped they could bring home a championship.  It didn't happen.  Players don't last long.  It's just the nature of the game plus the salary cap.  I'll miss Tre White though.  Before his injuries, he was really good and he was fun and funny.  Yep gonna miss Tre.

In preseason, and he was bad at RT. Which is why I don't think view Van Demark as a swing tackle, but the backup LT.

Players can and do improve year over year.  Especially between year 1 and year 2.

  5. As a Bills fan, I appreciate what Diggs brought to the Bills offense.  It was an exciting time.  After initial shock hearing of the trade, it was time for the Bills to move on.  To trade away a player while incurring a $31 M cap hit is pretty telling.

If I recall all this correctly; his contract before they gave him an extension in 2022 would have expired after last season. No dead cap, just a mutual parting of ways. I remember thinking that the extension didn't seem necessary, he was already under contract for that season and the next. The new contract saved them $6 million in cap space that year.

Now they trade him for a future pick and take the biggest one year dead cap hit for a WR in the history of the league. $31 million of your cap gone for no player at all. In all likelihood throw away your chances for an entire year for absolutely nothing. He was already under contract through last season.

      That's some real brilliant chess

Diggs appeared to be on board the first 2 seasons and then the drama kicked in after the contract extension.  It must have been pretty bad for them to trade him and take that kind of cap hit.

  7. Even before the Bills traded Diggs, I was believing the Bills would make a big move up in the 2025 draft to get WR1.  The Bills have too many roster spots to fill in 2024 (S, CB, LB, OL, DT, and WR).

I think the Bills draft 2 WRs this year and sign a veteran WR on a 1yr deal.  Then bust a move in 2025 draft to get a legit WR1 when the roster is more stable.

I really had no problem moving on from Steff after how much he complains he had arguably his worst game as a bill his last game.

But to do it now and not closer to the draft or having something else planned is utterly ridiculous.

I still have to think there is something else at work cause man the WR Depthchart is absolutely terrible.

Can't help but think Beane has something in the works as far as a trade or FA signing.  The draft is too much of a crap shoot.

Look at his catch percentage and depth of target. Marino has some great numbers on this. He was receiver three from week 7 to 28 and did ***** all in the postseason including a critical drop.

Yeah, sometimes guys hit the wall quick

Marino does point out great numbers on Diggs, Davis, Kincaid, and Shakir.  Pretty telling of why they traded Diggs and let Davis go in FA.  Plus I believe Diggs just wore people out to include Allen.

  10. I think McD is a pretty good coach.  Has he made mistakes? Yes.  The Bills have had some injuries the last 2 seasons which have not helped.  Teams that win the SB usually have some luck regarding injuries.  I don't think the Bills roster has been as good as needed.  Not enough high draft picks on offense.  Too many high picks on defense.  Too much FA money on defense.  Not enough FA money on offense.  I think the team's roster philosophy is flawed.  You have Allen and Diggs on offense and now 1 season with Kincaid.  Get more wideouts for Allen who can get open and catch the F'n ball.  Why is this so hard?

    I agree.

And I don't think Beane even answered the question of whether or not they offered a pay cut, seems like they didn't.  With so many draft picks it seems like a later round CB who might develop behind Douglas would make more sense than bringing back Tre.

Hyde makes more sense to me at a cheap price.  While the Bills should try and get a younger developing player it seems like  they could still use another veteran presence.

I don't pretend to know all the rules, but I was thinking earlier today if the Bills might try to get White, at some point during the season, on the PS.  Have him work back to getting ready and possibly elevate him late in the season or not.  Like I said, don't know all the rules involved with released players.

I don't think Tre comes back.

IMO the blurb from Beane about Tre was because he was put in a tough interview spot when right after his praise of Von for taking a pay cut they asked him if the pay cut had been an option discussed with Tre.  There was a telling, panicked, half second before Beane got into his preprogrammed GM speak.

We'll have to see what happens with the draft but right now I give much better odds for Hyde to come back than Tre.

Before White was released, I thought best case was he started on the PUP and come back at some point this season.  His availability timeline seems murky and don't see any team in a hurry to sign him at this point.

The only way anyone could be happy with this Free Agency is if they expected literally nothing (as you said). As in, they somehow expected us to field a team of 42 players instead of 53.

    We have acquired:

    - Curtis Samuel

    - A defensive end with one of the worst possible grades you could ever imagine (Johnson)
    - A LB whose former teams fans were celebrating him leaving (Morrow)

    - A backup center

    - Mitch Trubisky

    Maybe I missed someone?

We have signed scrap heap players.

Johnson is 6'4 315.  He's a DT, so he's not going to have great stats.  He's just going to clog up the LOS.  I think Samuel could be a pretty good signing.

  14. Beane will most likely trade around a bit within later rounds to get a guy he covets.  Also I can see him trading up into the 3rd rd.  Bills have not had much luck stashing draft picks on the PS.  The last few drafts, these picks have been claimed off waivers.  I can see 6 - 8 actual drafted players by the Bills.  Getting back into the 3rd round might be a little tricky and cost a few picks.

  15. Bills are light at DT and S.  I could see a veteran DT and S signing in FA.  Going into the draft they then could go WR, DT, S, CB and DE.  I hate saying this because I want a WR, but I think Beane might go DL first and then WR.

a low third rounder but with knowledge will be getting another 3rd rounder in UFA compensation and the 5th rounder from Green Bay. The way I see it is we traded down in the 3rd round from pick 91 to pick 166* (not sure what pick is due to compensation picks not awareded) and got Douglas. Assuming Douglas plays the 2 years of his contract (or more) it's more than a fair trade.

True if he plays this year for the Bills, it's a fair trade.  Speculation based on Beane talking about Douglas in past tense, are the Bills getting ready to release Douglas?  If he gets released, I don't think it was good trade for the Bills.
