This is a CEO of a Wisconsin aluminum plant. Tariffs are devastating his company and the Trump government has people scared of retaliation. This is our government today, hurting prosperity, killing jobs and sending out threats. Disgusting https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2025/08/29/trump-aluminum-tariffs-manufacturing-workers/?pwapi_token=eyJ0eXAiOiJKV1QiLCJhbGciOiJIUzI1NiJ9.eyJyZWFzb24iOiJnaWZ0IiwibmJmIjoxNzU2NDQwMDAwLCJpc3MiOiJzdWJzY3JpcHRpb25zIiwiZXhwIjoxNzU3ODIyMzk5LCJpYXQiOjE3NTY0NDAwMDAsImp0aSI6IjA1ZTU0MzFhLTk3ODAtNDQ3MS05ODQwLWRjYTM3NDA2YWE5MSIsInVybCI6Imh0dHBzOi8vd3d3Lndhc2hpbmd0b25wb3N0LmNvbS9vcGluaW9ucy8yMDI1LzA4LzI5L3RydW1wLWFsdW1pbnVtLXRhcmlmZnMtbWFudWZhY3R1cmluZy13b3JrZXJzLyJ9.g6PREaxAyL_rIe7ysHa2b5mdp9XTb8A1C5vUYulWTOU Our business had been growing, and demand was strong in the first quarter of this year. But unfortunately, it has all been downhill since. Our primary product is aluminum castings. We melt metal, make a mold, pour the metal, machine it, and sell custom metal parts for engines or for equipment built by our customers. All of that is done here in the United States, and we serve storied national champions of industry — think tractors, trucks, rockets. Advertisement What is not debatable is that our order rate is down 35 percent to 40 percent since the start of the year. At other companies, too, demand is crumbling. In such a situation, companies have a fiduciary duty to bring costs down, and the one surefire way to do that is layoffs. At our company, we’ve had little choice but to lay workers off at all of our plants. Shareholders aren’t suffering — not yet — because the impact is being absorbed first by the very people Trump’s policies are meant to help. I know that our challenges are not unique. We have relatively little exposure. In fact, in fact, our industry was singled out for assistance. In a different political environment, corporate America would be raising hell. Almost everyone in the business community thinks the tariffs are a bad idea, but CEOs are all too aware that saying so could put their job and company at risk of retaliation from the administration. Is that fear powerful enough to keep corporate America quiet even as consumers start to see prices increase and inflation begins to creep up for reasons that are entirely avoidable and independent of economic conditions? Time will tell. For now, I feel as though I’m watching a tsunami video that begins with a shot of a beachside paradise on a sunny day. I encourage everyone to batten down the hatches, because a big, bad wave is coming.

It's amazing that four judges actually ruled the illegal tariffs are ok, thankfully there were seven that followed the constitution. I suspect the clowns Alito and Thomas will back the taxation without representation but hopefully they will be the only ones. -
Just looking at what they are doing, not what they say. You pointed out they SAID they would spend more, yet what they did was lay off workers. You are just very naive and biased and will bend over backwards to believe anything. Do you think the tariffs are actually helping American businesses? That's seems to be what you are implying They are Trump's tariffs and Trump does threaten companies that say bad things about him, those are just facts. You realize the Trump tariffs are costs Ford, Deere and Caterpillar billions of dollars in lost revenue. Make the phony argument all you want that's its just politics to say that, but it is a fact

Oh, so you are defending Trump again. Has any of that money been spent or is it just a statement to appease Trump? Also, if they expand here won't they still have to pay higher prices for imported aluminum and steel? That will not change Can't you just admit the tariffs are hurting their business? Just admit that much

This is just insanity! John Deere might lose $600 million this year to the tariff, Caterpillar is even worse at 1.6 billion!! Ford down $300 million in a quater! The Trump adminstration is waging war on American domestic industries. Any of you people have an opinion on this disaster? https://www.aol.com/caterpillar-falls-raising-annual-tariff-110037471.html In an earnings call on Thursday, the iconic agriculture brand revealed it has already attributed $300 million worth of costs to tariffs for 2025. CNBC reported that the company beat on the top and bottom lines for it's third quarter earnings, but had a significant year-over-year decrease in net income and sales that resulted in a 7% in its share price on Thursday. "Our concern remains that CAT and the construction equipment group have thus far exhibited little to no ability to pass through tariffs," said Angel Castillo, analyst at Morgan Stanley. Caterpillar now expects a tariff hit of $1.5 billion to $1.8 billion this year, up from its prior forecast of up to $1.5 billion. https://www.nytimes.com/2025/07/30/business/ford-profit-tariffs.html Ford Motor said Wednesday that it lost money in the second quarter as tariffs took a toll on its business. The company also said it expected tariffs to cost it a total of $2 billion this year.
