Another day of practice inside in shells, what's up with that?

Letting them heal up a bit I imagine. They had a physical game against the Ravens and another one coming. It's late in the year, I imagine the hour of hitting won't benefit them that much compared to some extra rest.

If the Bills win Sunday night I have a feeling many of us will be dragging at work the next day. I know I will be to pumped to go to bed at 11:40 if the Bills win. Have to watch the post game show, go on the internet. Monday at work I will be like those people in those energy drink commercials who are falling asleep at their desk at 2:30 during a work day. That will definitely be me.

Monday is going to be rough regardless.

My tip is water, water, and Gatorade. 32 oz water before the game, 32 oz water at halftime, and a 32 oz Gatorade at the end of the game.

I usually stick to the hard stuff because if I only drink beer, I'm too full to drink any water and I feel just awful the next day.

He’s looked bad against a lot of inferior defenses too though. Philly Cleveland the opening game against the Jets weren’t exactly great. He did enough to win. And he’s improved a lot of stuff from last year.
(1)Hes still missing wide open guys. (2)Can’t hit a deep ball. (3)Very inaccurate on short routes. (4)And still throwing some 100 mph fastballs when it’s not needed at all. (5)And he’s shown a real problem fumbling.

I have no disagreement that he’s here for the duration of Beane and McDermott’s time. And I still have all the faith in the world he can deliver. But it’s concerning to see a lot of these issues showing up and even more concerning they show up in games they should be dominating on offense. Part of the reason we do not have the killer instinct to put teams away is his inability to have consistency. I don’t want to get into a big thing over it I might sound like a bit of a hater but I really don’t spew negatives a lot over him I just think as fans were getting a little ahead of ourselves on his progression so far and where he’s at.

    1. I have seen fewer and fewer examples of this. Are there specific plays from the Ravens game you saw this?

    2. He's certainly struggling with the deep ball.

    3. I'd need evidence of this too, he's been much better. Still needs to work on the fine accuracy, but he's not missing guys and I don't think "very inaccurate" is even close to what his short area accuracy currently is.

    4. He's gotten a lot better about that, would love to have some examples.

    5. He's gotten a lot better about that too. The fumble against the Ravens was when he got hammered in the pocket, it happens.

Anyone saying they aren't nervous about this game is on some quality prescription drugs.

I am not quite yet sold.  He is a a little short on the run plugger side.......he can run them down sideline to sideline, but straight at him, and he doesn't get there like a Spielman would.  So, I am still waiting until he  can play that role like a MLB should be able.......

Holy ***** am I happy you aren't making personnel decisions for this team.

You can always have hindsight. Brady was drafted in the 6th round. For Jackson, his Wonderlic Test score was at the very bottom of the quarterbacks tested at the combine. Josh Allen's score was tops by a large margin. I have wondered if Jackson's very low score affected teams interest in the top part of the draft. It is very clear, however, that the Bills had targeted Allen for the very things he brings to Buffalo.

Don't forget the Ravens drafted a TE in the first round before they drafted Jackson.

  6. Tre is going to get paid and he's going to deserve it all. He's got the desire and ability to be great, he was soaking up everything Bruce had to say.

I've got a soft spot for Tre because he's got a kid around the same age as mine and when they showing him having a good time with his kid it melts my heart.

Like @Rc2catch said, I'm going to riot if they let him walk.

  7. The sacks are what gets the attention and players paid, but man, those run stops were gorgeous. Avoiding a reach block and stringing out Collins and then taking on a double team, holding his ground against an elite G, and making the tackle, just GD fun to watch.

These happen so fast in the game, there's too much going on, so I really appreciate these breakdowns. I've watched the run stops about 15 times each.

His strength for his size is something else. Let's not forget he played a ton of 1 tech in college and not as much 3t like he is now. The future is bright for this kid.

Yup Singletary emerging as a force has changed everything. Now we can run option offense that teams have to respect. This was always our destiny if we got far enough. Also, it's so nice to have bruisers like Feliciano who can shift over to center and we don't miss a beat.

Edit: what's exciting is Allen and Singletary still have another level they can get to with the option. Josh let Devin get crushed by a DE in one of the exchanges early today. We already know he's good at that but those two don't have as many game reps together as Allen/Gore. More of those plays are going to start becoming big plays IMO because they're both such threats as runners.

If you're referring to the play I think you are, that was Mckenzie. It looked like Josh tried to pull it out but Mckenzie held onto it.

I wish they'd run Gore out of single back instead of shotgun. He seems to do better with a little bit more of a head of steam. Singletary and Josh running the read option / RPOs is money.

The most encouraging part of the day for me was how many solid throws Josh made out of tight pockets. The oline did a good job today, but not great. They were getting pushed back a bit and instead of Josh bailing from the pocket, he stood in and made quality throws. Josh is progressing very, very nicely.

  9. I'm very excited for and about Duke. He could be the big body, open when he's not open, type of receiver they hoped Kelvin Benjamin was going to be. It was only one game, but he caught contested passes, ran strong routes, and gained tough yards after the catch. The bye week might have come at a perfect time for him and the offense. Get some guys healthy, find out what was working, and find more ways to get Duke involved in moving the chains and scoring in the red zone. I can't wait to see him show off those balls skills on deeper passes too.

Strong routes like that can help get first downs and score in the red zone.

As easy as it is to get excited about what he can do on the field, it's easy to get excited for Duke the person to succeed. After the game Duke said before the game he cried while reflecting on how much he's been through and how long it took him to get here. If he slips up or starts slacking, I would be very, very surprised.

@Shaw66 mentioned the Lee Smith interview. If you don't listen to the whole thing, the Duke part is great. Like Shaw said, Smith is almost at a loss for words. He says whatever "it" is that makes people different or special, Duke has it. Smith says he works his tail off and guys gravitate to him and want him on the field.

    It starts around 4:55.

The directTV recap doesn't show this play unfortunately because I swear Mariota called out a fake snap right as they moved.

It seems like a hard count with movement timed to simulate the snap should be a penalty. If he didn't call out a fake snap, then I don't have a problem with it.

I thought I saw someone say after the game that this play was a designed run to Gore but Allen decided to take off himself?  Is there an confirmation on this?

Yup, heads up play by Allen.

If you watch the replay, you can see Gore is probably going to get stopped, by the edge defender that totally lost contain.

Of course it doesn't save the timestamp. It happens at 10:24.

I was not expecting Gore to rip of 8-14 yarders when they knew it was coming. That and suffocating run D is so fun to watch.

I forget who it was, someone from the O-line I believe, but they said it was a matter of pride within the team for the offense to finish the game off. Every other game the defense has had to stop the opponent to win the game, this time the offense got to finish it off.

  12. 3-1 with a very good looking defense, I'm happy with where they are at. Obviously a big step back on offense this game, but the pats defense is playing at an extremely high level.

Maybe the concussion will be a good thing for Allen. He needs some time to sit and realize the hero ball nonsense is almost always hurting the team. Take a sack, throw it away, anything but these terrible throws and big hits. I think Barkley can get a win in Tenn, then get healthy over the bye, and let's roll.

I said upthread, I'm more OK with him now than I was then, but he doesn't look like the guy he was hyped to be. But I'll say this: he gets a sack on Brady, I'll forgive a LOT of let-downs.

So if he gets one sack on Brady, but gets pushed around and abused all game, you're good?

What if he doesn't get any sacks but is constantly in Brady's face and causes a pick or two? You're still going to be unhappy because he didn't show up in the stat sheet?

For me? given all the HYPE about the guy, at least a .5 sack a game pace.

He's supposed to be unstoppable in the pass rush. He's proven to not be that for the time being.

Could he grow into it? Maybe.

Regardless of what's said about a rookie, thinking they'll be unstoppable in anyway, shape, or form is hilariously naive.

I feel like if he came in and was playing like Aaron Donald, you'd still B word.

So gotta' ask........did you clutch your pearls when I left you breathless?

We all know about Kuechly but when you are done hyperventilating put the bag down and read this........Pedestrian Preston Brown leading the NFL in tackles in the McDefense in 2017..........it's real friendly to instinctive MLB's.

The Bills were 29th in the league against the run that year.

The Bills are 8th against the run this year.

Maybe tackles by the MLB doesn't correlate 1 to 1 with the success of the defense.

Optimism high for 2-0 Bills, who face 0-2 Bengals

The Buffalo Bills are seeking their first 3-0 start in eight years when they host the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday.

Buffalo started the campaign with road wins over the New York Jets and New York Giants, and optimism is blooming as the Bills begin a stretch of hosting five of six games in Western New York.

"Well, we understand the energy of the stadium is going to be really high on Sunday," Bills quarterback Josh Allen told reporters. "We have to be able to kind of weather that and understand and play within ourselves. Coach (Sean McDermott) told us it's not where we play, it's how we play. We're going to take that to heart."

The Bills will be meeting a desperate team in the Bengals (0-2) ......

Did anyone read the Lane Kiffin story on ESPN?

    https://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/27638015/trash-talk-mattress-fires-flying-projector-lane-kiffin-year-tennessee

    Quote

Team meetings at the Birmingham Marriott were winding down the night before Tennessee was set to take on top-ranked and unbeaten Alabama in 2009, and Ed Orgeron wanted everyone's attention.

To get the Vols pumped up, the fiery defensive line coach took an overhead projector and hurled it into a wall, where it shattered into pieces. Then it was Lane Kiffin's turn. The brash young head coach had an announcement.

"He gets up there and says, 'I've already called back to the University of Tennessee and told them that we're going to stay an extra night after we beat Alabama tomorrow, and we're going to go eat some of those Dreamland ribs and hang out at their bars,'" recounted Marlon Walls, then a freshman defensive lineman.

The whole room went wild, including Kiffin's father, Monte, the Vols' 69-year-old defensive coordinator.

"I believe Monte even picked up a chair and threw it," then-senior defensive lineman Wes Brown said. "Whatever we could get our hands on, we were throwing.

    "It was total chaos."

    McDermott's approach >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Kiffin's approach

You obviously have to have confidence, but the over the top nonsense doesn't work long term. The Kiffin story just made me think of Rex.

Anyway, back to what matters. This doesn't look good for the Bengals.

The stars are lining up for a W, just gotta execute.
