  1. I am not really sure what to make of Diggs declining numbers in the last half of the season.  Chicken and egg kinda thing. Did he "decline" because they weren't using him as much?  Or were they not using him that much, because he was in decline?

I do remember saying to some friends of mine, late in the season (and they thought I was being overly dramatic) but I just thought Diggs attitude seemed, very uncharacteristically lackadaisical.  He just didn't seemed bothered, or agitated...like he mentally was saying "I don't give a ***** anymore, I am out of here next year".  Everyone told me I was imagining it, he was a great competitor, and there must be some injury issues that they aren't talking about. I heard everyone say that there was absolutely no way they could trade him, because of the cap hit...but I knew it was going to happen!  It had to.  The only surprise to me was that they didn't wait til after June 1st.  Especially since they didn't get anything in this year's draft in return.

Personally, I think the guy is not done, and still can play at a high level, if he is interested...but he just wasn't interested in doing that in Buffalo anymore.  The lazy pundits, and the social media commentators who follow sports, not by watching the games, but by reading what the lazy pundits and other equally un-knowledgeable social media commentators have to say.

There always has to be a bad guy... there are those who will say this proves how "overrated" Allen is... some will say it only proves how inept the Bills are... and others will say it only illustrates that Diggs is a "diva".  Personally, I hate to see Diggs go...but once a player decides they don't want to play for you, the best thing to do is to just get them out of there.  I happen to follow the NBA (I know, not super popular here) and this happens all the time in that league.  It seems like this thing with Diggs was festering for close to 2 seasons...it wasn't going to get better.  I think the Bills made the right move in trying to make it work (Diggs is a fanatastic player), but I also think they did the right thing in pulling the plug...the cap hit sucks, but it would be the same as if he had just been injured for the whole season.

  2. I don't come here as much as I used to, so I am not sure if Tim Graham is still taboo here, but I've always liked him.  Just listening to his podcast tonight, and he told a interesting story about Diggs/Allen.  Apparently, after the opening game (the disaster against the Jets) Allen was sitting in front of his locker, towle draped over his head, obviously not happy, reflecting on his disastrous performance.  One by one, teammates were coming up to him, padding him on the shoulder, saying things like "we got your back", "we'll get them next week"... after multiple players tried to cheer Allen up, Diggs stepped up to him and said something.  Graham said he didn't report it at the time, because he wasn't sure what Diggs said...but apparently, it irritated Allen, and he yelled at him "It's one ***** game man!"

Also heard some rumors that during the season, Allen had expressed his unhappiness about always feeling like he had to "walk on eggshells" with Diggs.

It was fun while it lasted, but I think this was the right move.

The quality of the broadcast was spectacular. I actually felt like I was in 1999.

I love the old broadcasts. HD is awesome, but I really miss the focus on the game, instead of the incessant graphics and stats. And, I loved McGuire and Theisman...their commentary was spot on.

Just watched the end of the game. The commentators said the bills should kick it deep and not squib it. So we lost a playoff game with 16 seconds and one with 13 seconds. Maybe we win the Super Bowl with 10 seconds left now

Just watched the end as well...I still think that was a forward pass.

I'll give it a go to explain.  Please excuse me if I describe stuff you know, but nothing will make sense unless the basics are known.

NFL contracts are divided into roughly two bins: bonus money, and yearly cash.

Yearly cash is stuff like salary (paid per game), workout bonuses, and roster bonuses.  Salary may or may not be guaranteed

That really ought to be what Allen says to Diggs whenever Diggs yells.  Catch the damned ball, Stefon.

    Thanks!  Great explanaation!

It’s crazy to see him post photos from a shoot he did, and see all the horrible things ‘fans’ say to him.

This man will have NOTHING positive to say about Bills fans when he leaves.

When EJ Manuel and Sammy Watkins were Bills, fans were super ***** toward them. Sammy had an adorable daughter, and pretty much all he posted was pictures of the two of them doing things together. Bills fans would just badger him non-stop saying things like "There is Sammy hard at work doing nothing to ensure he can stay healthy". His family members always defended him, it got really ugly. I was embarrassed, as a Bills fan. Diggs is a fantastic player, but I think, in some ways, he brings a lot of the negativity on himself. While I agree, much of his "drama" is media driven, but he could easily quash it if he wanted. It's like he likes the attention.

  7. So, I haven't read this whole thread...I am one of those in the camp that believes he is not going anywhere...I think it is media driven....though I do think Diggs kinda get off on it too.  Maybe, like Dion Dawkins last week by falsely saying that he had been released, Diggs is just looking for some of that legendary Bills-mafia love. It may be silly for fans to read too much into "cryptic" tweets, but he knows what he is doing.

Honestly, every time I think I understand the cap/dead money thing, I read something that makes me realize I don't.  The argument that he won't be traded seems mostly based on the fact that it would have a massive negative impact the Bils salary cap situation.  But something I read earlier today said that if they waited until after June 10th to trade him, they would "save 19 million in 2024 cap space, but it would cause 8 million in dead cap money".  Can anyone explain this?

How can you get cap relief, but also incur 8 million in dead cap? It would seem to me. if the Bills did want to trade him it wouldn't be that huge a hardship. Is it like essentially giving 28 million for 19 million? Of course, you would have to find a trade partner...after the draft. But it doesn't seem that un-doable if they simply want to cut ties.

Great player. I wish him the best.

I remember when he first got here and I swe that he was going to be a starter with Hyde. I was concerned. He was a nobody. I thought it was a mistake. I was comfortable with Hyde given what he did in Green Bay.

But he went and balled out year after year.

Strangely, completely by coinincidence, I wsa in visiting Buffalo the day they signed him.  Me and my nephew went into a card shop.  He purchased an old pack of cards, and he pulled an autograph Poyer rookie card.  We thought it was a good omen.  He will be missed

Tannenbaum suggested a Diggs-Tyrique stevenson trade to Bears.  I have to say if we could flip Diggs for a starter on a rookie deal then bring in Mike Evans in free agency I’d give that some serious  thought.

Why would the Bears do this?

  10. I've been to close to 130-150 games home and on the road...never tallied W's vs L's...i suspect I wouldn't be too happy if I did.  I started going to games in 1973, had season tickets from 1980-87 (great timing to give them up then :) ).  Once I moved away from WNY, I made it back for a game or two almost every year, as well as a quite a few road games.

I have to say, the game I went to that made me put a pause on going to road games, was a game in Dallas, 2011.

I have lived in Austin since 1991, and have always gone to any game the Bills played in the state, or nearby, like New Orleans.  For that 2011 game, a Sunday noon game (TX time) a handful of my friends drove to Dallas on Friday morning and made a weekend of it.  Unfortunately, I couldn't join them on Friday, as I had a commitment (17 hour work day) I couldn't get out of on Saturday. The plan was, I would get a few hours of sleep, and then take a bus from Austin to Dallas for the game. I would meet my buddies at their tailgate.  I would drive back with them on Monday morning.

As luck had it, the bus broke down on the way there.  My original plan had me getting to the game around 10 am...instead, I got there around 10 minutes before kickoff.  My friends were already inside by the time I got there.  I was already kinda wiped out, then trudging through that monstrous stadium to find my seat.  I finally sat down about 3 minutes into the game...when my ass touched the seat, literally right then, Tony Romo hit Dez Bryant for an 80 yard touchdown pass.  And it went that way the rest of the game...Bills lost 44-7, and were not even in the game for a minute.  It was a total dismantling.  It was one of the shittiest games I had ever been to.  Perhaps, because it was Dallas, and I walked, daily, among brain-dead Cowboys fans.  Perhaps, too, I was still stinging from a trip to NYC I had taken a few weeks earlier  to see the Bills at the Meadowlands, collapse against the Giants.  It just made me think "I just can't justify wasting the time, money and emotional muscle it takes to do this a whole lot more"

Of course, second to last game of the season, I went to the Christmas Eve matchup against Tebow/Broncos...the Bills destroyed them...it all felt justified for a few hours.  But that 2011 season really made me re-assess things.  I've been to games since, but not at the pace I used to keep.  Watching at a bar, or from the comfort of home is kinda nice too.

    Embarrassing and sad…

Very embarrassing...I love the Bills, and I think we have great fans...but like every single fan base in every sport, there are always #######s...people are #######s in general...Bills Mafia (God I hate that nickname...talk about embarrassing!) is no worse than any other. I've been to more games in Buffalo than elsewhere...but I have been to about half the stadiums in the leauge. I've seen ***** fans in all those towns...our culture encourages it.It's everywhere.

And honestly teams can do whatever they want. The cubs just did this same situation with David Ross when they dismissed him for Craig Counsel as their manager.

I’d just fire him straight up but at least this gives the warm and fuzzies to him for his years of service and ultimately lets him make the decision if he wants to fall on his own sword before being put out of his misery.

I assume you have never been a manager of people?

trust me, I was at the game, and I felt even more depressed about the whole thing today than I did when I left last night after the missed field goal. Everyone I know was about as depressed as you could imagine today, including myself. The only way I can get myself out of it was thinking about how much goddamn fun I had this year and how much I miss this team already, just 24 hours displaced from another nightmare.

Yeah...the crushing defeat is bad enough...but there is that realization that football season (my favorite season) is over...but trust me, I'd still rather feel this than the feelings we all had from 2000-2016. Love the whole routine of the football season...winning or losing, I want it to to keep going. At the two minute warning yesterday, I was so sure we were going to Baltimore...then it just comes to a halting end a few minutes later. You get over it, of course...you have to. But this one will sting for a few more days...this coming Sunday will feel weird.

  14. To be honest, as well as intended as it is, I hate when people who don't really care, or truly "know" how it feels try to console me. I was/am fairly depressed about the end of another season...I just assume not hear things like "at least they got there", or "they played really good"...I wish to Christ I had just called in sick to work today...because honestly, it's about as sick as I've felt in a while...of course I'll be back at draft time...schedule release...meaningless pre-season games...but right now I just want to feel bad, and get it out of my system. I've been a fan since I went to my first Bills game in 1973. I'm not stopping now...but, *****, it sucks sometimes!

Take it a step further and Oliver and Epenesa have also been legit. It’s almost like Beane sort of knows what he’s doing

Leonard Floyd as well...though I was referring more specifically to tonights game.

I actually felt really good for Harty. He looked so genuinely happy on the sideline...like relieved that he was finally able to contribute to a huge win.

  16. So, kind of fitting: Trent Sherfield, Deonte Harty and Taylor Rapp, three of Beane's off-season FA signings were all viewed as being kinda underwhelming...but all three played a major role in stealing the #2 seed from Miami. And the much-maligned Sean McDermotts defense was amazing down the stretch. Nicely done gentlemen!

No one can watch that video and say Diggs is anything but a great teammate.

That was the biggest takeaway for me too...also, for some reason, I thought Kincaid was one of those "super-Christy" kind of guys who would never curse!  Not so much, as it turns out...

    Burrow was 28-32.

I suppose there's always hope that they spent some of themselves on today's win.

Either way, McD will have had 10 days to have the team prepared.  They'd better hit the field looking the part.

How'd the Bengal OL look?   Did you watch the game?   Niners have a formidable Front 7.

The Bengals looked about as good as any team I've seen this year. Bills have their work cut out for them. 49ers got a little pressure early, but when they did, Burrow made them pay.
