  1. I'm not partial to the Bills' four Super Bowl appearances. I know exactly where the Bills stand from an historical perspective. You can write a book trying to dissuade me but the bottom line is that winning a conference championship and then losing in the Super Bowl > losing in the conference championship. To argue otherwise defies logic. Who has a greater legacy? The Bills team that lost four Super Bowls or the Eagles team that kept losing in the NFC championship game? Your argument is that the Eagles team is necessarily a greater all time team and that McNabb is necessarily a greater all time QB than Kelly for having lost prior to the Super Bowl. I'm almost factually right on this one. You're trying to tell me that in your book, a QB gets 1 point for winning the Super Bowl, -1 point for losing a Super Bowl and breaks even for going 3-13 and not making the playoffs. I would contend that a QB gets 5 points for winning a SB and maybe 2 points for making it to a Super Bowl.

wow way to miss the point entirely. guess you didnt read more than one line in what i wrote and then restated the argument to make sense only to yourself. Did you read or understand anything about being perfect and not losing, period? Also Brady has played more seasons than montana and his defense won his last superbowl for him in the last 2 minutes. Who are you to assign the values to afc championships? no one cares about those really, or superbowl losers. If you hadnt ever noticed, the Bills are looked down on for their appearances only to lose, its judged as a completely negative accomplishment even though it actually isnt. But again the argument is greates qbs. If a qb can make sure a superbowl you arrived at is won, and he did it with some proficient offensive output...it is a bigger accomplishment than going only to end up losing once there. Last point. Would Montana have looked better had he made it back with the cheifs and lost? NO, he would have come off as too old and flawed, instead of Joe montana- worlds greatest QB. if you cant accept this logic, i dont know what more i can tell you to fix your flawed perspective on this.

  2. I think most people already think the level he's playing at right now is rather odd considering his age.

FIrst I want to point out Beerball and I have the same opinion on this...interesting.

Second, While you claim its hard for us to be impartial to Brady on here, You are the one who is being partial to Jim Kelly and afc championships, which is how you derive your opinion on brady being better than montana. For us to discount bradies 2 SB loses and give Joe credit for not having made it to another 2 SB's It would mean we would also be discrediting all of Kellys SB's And we rightly should if we're judging "greatest of all time" This honor would have to go to someone who has won a superbowl..or 4 and has nothing to to with just being great, like Kelly was. You can judge kelly on his probowls, stats and afc championships etc. But for greatest of all time you certainly should look at 2 losses where Brady couldnt figure out how to make a win happen with relatively very little points on the board from the other teams. He almost had a third loss which his defense handed to him as a last second victory, then theres was the cheating to get to 4. But back to the two losses. Lots of teams make it to the SB, lose and are forgotten. Lots of teams go and win and the QB is forgotten because he was a nobody and the teams defense and skill players won the SB for them more than they did as QB. Brady lost two SBs while having a hall of fame coach and many all pro defenders in tow. Also having continuity of a system year after year and a couple studs on offense at times too. Randy Moss, Corey DIllon, wes welker. Since its a team sport we cant know for sure who really lost those 2 SBs for the Pats but I saw Brady sucking in those games and with Joe...no one ever has to wonder. Perfection in winning is harder than consistent winning. It has a synergy makes those wins larger in value than 4. Its a perfect 4. Could have been a perfect 3 and I still might say Joe is better than a boring, safe throw making Superbowl losing QB like Brady. I dont think Brady is nearly as "great" as Joe for many reasons actually, but the 2 losses,to me, detract and are a negative to his legacy.

Now you know, and knowing is half the battle, Yo JOE!

  3.

Already is. 4 SB Wins AND two losses, with the last two on teams not nearly as talented as Montana's. Never gets hurt minus the 2008 season.

ok had to step in here....he is still second to montana. Montana had no losses in superbowls which trumps 2 losses. Second, montana wasnt accused of cheating (except by his wife) so bradys last bowl was an asterisk win which in my book counts as less than a win. I give brady 3.9 wins minus 2 losses =1.9 vs Joes 4.0 its still not close. neither player can account for their teams talent aside from their own, so not a factor. Pats D was better than san frans anyway. Pats also lost last game of a perfect season scoring what 14pts? Joe didnt ever even sweat.

If you ever read my post on this youd know only one person can sell his soul and be the "greatest of all time" and Joe did that way before Brady tried.

  4. First ,while yes we lead the league in rushing and tyrod set a record for ya da ya da ...he did that to the detriment of about 100 passing plays that went for qb rushes instead. What good is leading the league in rushing if you are often behind, trying to pass, and scrambling instead? I dont get "amazed" anymore by all his running around. Its highly frustrating and annoying. A good rushing team needs to run with its running backs to hold a lead and play out the clock. Not lose to the giants, chiefs, eagles, pats, and skins while your qb dorks around throwing bombs on third and 3 or worse-3 yard flares on third and 10! Or worse yet -scrambling for 14 yards on 3rd and 15 that get called back for holding anyways.

Lets be honest, with his slow release and inability to read the middle of the field, we are stuck with a qb who plays it safe and does everything ( i mean everything ) outside the hash marks. Will tightwad throw a 10 yarder to a tight end crossing? Nope. Will he hit anyone crossing the middle, ever? nope. How many slants were thrown this year? I think about zero. How are the rac yards for receivers on this team? Crap. The only middle type pass he throws is to a rb that hooks for 2 yards. But the player has to be stopped. He hit watkins and hogan for 2 nice stop routes last sunday. Both stopped, and on the sideline. His tds a few weeks ago, a fade to watkins, a hook out to woods, both on the outside. see the pattern yet? his other tds, almost all deep sideline passes. He tried exactly 2 deep posts down the middle this year. missed bad on one and connected on the other in double coverage. His sideline deep ball last week was in double coverage too, he still throws em, doesnt read it (or care?). watkins had to fight off the cb enough to get offensive PI. Ill admit he has great touch so its safe and watkins may catch it. He started the year doing this to harvin with some success. But this is all he has. When hes not going deep sideline hes throwing annoying little flares to the tight end or back. Always diagonal and outside the hash and for 3-4 yards. Usually results in a quick tackle on third and long. No first down. He doesnt care, its safe and maybe the receiver will break it. Do they? Nope.

His other lame asset, running, has given us a ton of garbage time points, and yes a few game winners. But the problem is even his scrambles, almost every single one, are to the outside. He wont just shoot through the middle. With the middle WIDE OPEN, he stops, deeks backwards then runs sideways often losing ground and barely getting it back at the sideline. When he has a choice to cut back these outside runs, he doesnt. He just fakes in, but always goes outside, always and often short of the marker. And should we talk about all the holding penalties we got when he did this weird stop-go backwards and run outside move? They looked nice and all, til the flag got thrown. I think we had about 10 like that.

Maybe its Roman. I tried to just focus on the middle of the field last week to see if any receivers crossed at all. Sme plays didnt have anyone, so maybe its not all the qbs fault. But this doesnt excuse his lame style of jumping backwards and trying to run around the Defensive End everytime he gets nervous in the pocket. Its decision making. Like his decisions to throw deep balls on third and short. Or the plays he SHOULD and COULD have scrambled on since he cant seem to throw an easy 5 yarder to someone. All year he would to go deep on 3rd and short, short on third and long, and run on third and very long.

Bottom line is hes playing it safe, and his pretty deep ball passes cover up a huge hole in his game. His unwillingness to even try running up the middle bothers me and makes me question his courage. I watched itty bitty Kellen Moore hang in there and hang in there and deliver all kinds of passes all over the field. Especially third down passes. He was a better qb last week in his first start that tightwad was in week 16. Id take him straight up for "t mobile" ( where all calls must be either long distance or you can hand walk a letter) Time to switch carriers, we need a new QB next year.

  5.

The notion that the running game is helpless without Shady was bogus to start with.........but now that argument, which was based on only 2 unproductive quarters of football from Karlos versus the Giants...........is gone.

    Last week:

McCoy 29 yards and rest of team 211 yards

    This week:

    237 yards without McCoy

badol, i told you stats and evidence like this go right over the heads of the posters in this thread. Yes its true, i think shady would have gotten 15 yards on that play, not the go ahead td, and would have ran some plays to the sideline that karlos and g.lie took for 10+. numbers dont lie. Just people. People who defend their favorite starters no matter what....until they are cut or traded at the end of the season.

  6.

    YUP. #facts

    Yup

as usual, one line saying nothing, only ripping someone who doesnt like your guy, with nothing to back up your opinion. except going with maybe one unrelated element like "duuuuuuh shadys goin to duh pro bowl" and here with "yup" strong argument!

McCoy's contract, particularly this coming off-season, needs to be a part of the discussion regardless of how much Pegula spends. What the Bills did giving him an extension to placate his trade inhibits their ability to staff other positions, namely defensive ones. And that will undoubtedly be a requirement real soon.

I think certain fans like (and vocally support) McCoy more for his name than his output on the field. He's in the news a lot and for a team with (some) fans starving for any shred of attention, he provides that. What he doesn't provide is value based on his contract.

see my post "shady trade will set this team back for years" written 5 months ago

  7. Because he is as fragile as a Christmas ornament. Until he can stay healthy we have nothing there.

oh you mean mckoy right? rookie.

    Jesus Christ

Shady also MAKES a lot of plays on the field that are not there by making people miss

If you cannot see that I absolutely do not think this is gonna be much of a discussion

ya, they miss then miss again, then he gets 1 yard, cj did that too.

  8. If they score I don't care how they do it.

The offense was more than fine in 2015.

No it wasnt....yes it scored alot but its deceiving....it lead the league in 3 and outs....especially in a row. This allowed teams to gain momentum, tire out our defense and get ahead on the scoreboard. Tyrod would throw a few garbage time tds but never enough. We lost to kc, Washington, the first pat's game, Cincinnati, and the giants from this. The second pats game, second half of the jets game and the titans game all suffered from poor offense as well. Had we lost the jets game or titans which we barely won, the season would have been over much sooner. That and alot those points came against teams we lost to inc the jags and from two miami wins...id rather beat alot of teams close and sustain some long drives than pile up points in garbage time and against bad teams.
  9. [quote name="Ryan L Billz" post="3819020"

He didn't deserve pro bowl ? Bills lead league in rushing at 148 yards a game. They did one thing right.

ooooh lead the league so mckoy did all that himself right? It wasnt gillislie williams or the qb who will set the team record for rushing yards this year?....So when our substandard qb cant read the field and takes off running, you give credit to the oft injured running back and then the whole orginization like its a good thing?

Your takes are weak and your stats irrelevant. Ypa is the important stat and qb scrambles are a unintended way to inflate that stat. But at least you finally used a stat,or even had a take... Finally

  10.

2011 thread being about Shady not scoring a TD from the 1 yard line......no......if he scores there

I think he's lost a step but even if he hasn't the problem is systemic with him.

He runs for the sticks on the sideline at the expense of shallower cutbacks that take the more physical backs on the roster to pay dirt.

When Shady is getting fair production and Solly is still saying he needs to cut it up quicker.......and then a practice squad guy comes in and immediately does that and takes it yard.....fans should take notice.

i dont know you but i like how you think...but you just cant attack a starter on the board. Even with logic and evidence aside from the stats....the mouthbreathers will ignore it all to flame your thread. I had many a fight and thread locked for attacking players here a year or two before it was popular. Winners like trent edwards, TO, SJ, Mckelvin, CJ and Mario williams. ALL of whom were defended as top flight premier pro bowler. Where did any end up after the bills? How are mario and mckelvin looking these days? Now im on watkins for dropping down on purpose and losing focus on balls in traffic. I just have to wait another year so it can all seem like what im saying was "their idea"
  11. Yea I'm all over it alright. I'm confused why shady got elected to the pro bowl though.

Im confused how he couldnt get 1 yard on 3 tries in a game we needed to stay in the playoff hunt. 3 runs where he carried no one forward and some how brought the ball straight down into the turf....3 prowbowl short yardage plays....is this the impact he was supposed to have?

Something doesn't make sense here. Is the pro bowl for the underperformers or the best at their position ? Who to enlighten?

  12. No doubt on the Gillespie TD shady floats that over to the sidelines for 3 yard gain. But yeah a lot of shuckin and jivin which drives the fans wild

agree and I noticed shady looking alot like cj spiller the last few games. also, even his 100 yard games were lacking the homerun, alot of 15 -20 yard carries, which is nice...but 8 mil $ a year nice? I saw gillislie and williams take em to the house alot of times on precious few carries when shady would have just juked and jived for 15 yards. Plus shady helped us lose in phili, with all his antics pumping up a team that beat us by just 3. And speaking of injury, has shady been durable? wasnt this the knock on Goodwin and Watkins too for a while? what good is a top tier back if hes out half the games? Shady is proving a bit fragile.

Where were you with your hot takes ? Oh yea that's right, you're a troll who only posts when the bills lose or a star Rb takes a hit to the knees.

I got my eye on you focker, you're game is weak and transparent.

i made a post BEFORE the season that the shady trade would set this team back for years, just based on the players involved and contract. I waited after shady started the season hurt (from training camp) Now i see him running like spiller, shooting off his mouth, hurt again. Now I can say he hasnt been anymore helpful at winning games than CJ and Fred were. In fact williams and gillislie look more effective and better for our offense than the juking jiving stopped for a loss runner shady is becoming.

PS I said it before the season so that counts even when he had his big games...big games that resulted in about 3-4 wins. Maybe not everyones a troll because they dont worship the top starters on a team. Who dont you like Ryan?? anyone? well wecan have our opinions, Still backing SJ by the way? Hes doing real good since leaving.

  13. I agree with this. Whaley has assembled a better roster than we have had previously.

I question a lot of rexs decisions this year but I don't know if changing coaches again is the right answer either.

Ugghh we are stuck in purgatory

yes change coaches,,,hes an idiot....idiots never get smarter, and his record will end up being a likeable 500 from now on...or worse. Rex will never be looked up to again. his peak was the day snachez beat the pats in a playoff game....7 years ago

  14. were you really that confused that on a message board filled with opinions, where I typed IMO in a post, that it was my opinion? Good grief. No need for me to have to answer to stuff like that. Back on ignore.

    what yous talkin bout willis?

I don't understand how you can ever complain about having Sammy Watkins on your team. He is only 22 and already one of the most feared weapons in the league. Take the time to appreciate the fact he is on your team instead of wringing your hands about the trade. It is like staring into the sky and trying to find the clouds when the sun is out. The Browns were involved in two of these WR trades and when you are on the side that actually gets the elite player, you are the lucky ones.

take the time to get over his star power and realise hes not giving it %100 and actually is quite the little fraidy cat when it comes to taking on tacklers or making catches in traffic. his rac yards bare this out. But you can keep bowing to him if it pleases you. Sammy is half a player.

Something I heard and not sure of the exact context, care to explain Sammy in the Miami game where he was 90% of the offense (I assume receiving)

Doubt Sammy all you want. I wonder how he'd perform with Tom Brady as his QB.

I will say the Eagles game was his worst this season WRT catches.

    http://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/W/WatkSa00.htm

The aforementioned Miami game 8 targets 8 catches for 168 yards

KC 10 targets 6 catches for 158 yards

HOU 4 targets 3 catches for 109 yards

okay can you actually read my posts and process my points? im not saying he doesnt have an impact. im very clear on his short comings. can you actually read instead of posting one stat? (overall yards in few games) if you want to go on that stat alone why not bring back SJ, he had 1000 yards in 4 straight seasons !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! for gods sakes.

i think that is a very good question....or maybe it illustrates a good point. Sammy (and the entire Bills team) would really benefit from leadership....or a leader who demands excellence and doesn't tolerate any less. Brady (and Flutie) are cocky, arrogant SOBs who have unwavering confidence in their own skills and aren't afraid to dress down a team-mate who isn't pulling his weight. I think there are a few Bills, but Sammy in particular, who would blossom within a Nick-Sabanesque-pefectionist atmosphere.

i like you. and your point.

His YAC suck because he leads the league in bombs caught as a percentage of his passes! He's average over 20 ypc since the bye. Come on, man.

so this excuses all the drops of 50/50 balls and crossing/in routes?? his yac would be less than worst in the league. Yes he caught long ones, so did lee evans, and he was flogged here for that. cmon man. sammy is only able to concentrate whn he feels safe, hence the nice long ball grabs, and the drops of the 5 yard variety. hes a pus$y.

    pull up his rac yards. D O N E

  15. I actually like where the Bills are long term over the jets right now. I don't think they make the playoffs, but even if they do i cant see them winning a road game.

i think we have the younger, more talented team, and poised to get much better on both sides of the ball nextt year. Our key production comes from younger players overall. Shady is the only one getting to that age.

Jets to me, outsdie of the D line, are getting key contributions from older players that i think will decline in production next year. Secondary, QB, WR, ...

Plus, i think they will be sucked in by Fitz, and it will set them back for a couple of years...and i like Fitz.

And they prolly do have an advantage at Head Coach, and i call the OCs even.

Am i just nuts? Just looking for the silver lining?

1 how do u have 9000 posts and i never heard of you?

2 dont say prolly, ever again, unless your 17 and a gangsta!

    3. I like fitz too but youre right. or are you, i say as the jets make the playoffs. I said when the season started, shady will set this team back for years....so far im right.

  16. Well thanks for your contribution to the thread

    Jeez

    i liked it

The absence of KW and Mario losing a step, with Dareus eating double teams 50 snaps a game, has left this team with exactly who to rush the passer? Hughes has helped opposing offenses just about as much as he has helped the defense. The front seven needs to be reforged to make Rex's system work. It is what it is.

we lost one guy, kw, but you make it sound like we lost 3, we lost 1. If we lose one, we still have dareus, healthy mario, and healthy hughes, thats 3 pro bowl pass rushers. Saying its personnel and that we need new players is making excuses for crappy coaching.

side note mario didnt lose a step, he just wont take the extra one anymore.

  17. What the article edits out is how aw wishes to lead the team in 15 yard penalties. Before injury he was the most irresponsible hot head on the team even without rexs lack of control. He and hughes had a pact i overheard in the hallway as he rode away on the cart...aw said..."man you gots ta do dis....i cants commits dem fouls when my necks be broke." Hughes answered as he shook his hand...."I gots dis!"

10 weeks later Hughes leads his team with an all time record in fouls.

  18. Clear as day ODB is better, running routes, getting separation, consistently catching the ball, and making spectacular catches Watkins isnt....doesn't matter who the QB is to see those things. IMO Beckham is the best player in the league right now. As I said in a different thread, Sammy is more like a bigger Lee Evans, than a smaller Julio Jones. He gets some first half strikes, but after defenses adjust to his speed, he becomes largely invisible...doesn't have the route running ability to get separation, running ability to turn short routes and reverses into big gains, nor the vertical to win jump balls. Against eagles also had some crucial drops.

He's good and can help win games....as Lee Evans was...but to compare him to OBD and a handful of other trule elite WRs is kinda silly.

love your take, i said this a month ago about lee evans and watkins in a post, i said a year ago (week 3) about watkins being inconsistant etc. I get my post locked everytime i come after watkins. I will appreciate it when more people see what I see, but then they will pretend its common knowledge and everyone can see it. Like when i went after SJ for being second rate 2 years before anyone else. You are officially in before that crowd though.

Geez. You're just making crap up.

what part? his yac is lowest in the league for starting wrs

He has a ton of long balls, but only about 3 or 4 caught going over the middle for the year, fact

He has a ton of drops, all facing toward the qb or (inward) and a ton of nice sideline replay grabs

His nice catches are all safe and sound type over the top, out the back or side of the enzone, or while heading outof bounds.

His drops are all where he cant see the safety but knows hes coming, or on plane old in-routes. And no RAC since he falls down on purpose.

In some circles these symptoms are known as pussitis

  19. Offense vs defense. An apple to oranges comparisson.

FWIW - Look at Sammys #'s then look at who he's had at QB for the majority of the past 2 seasons.

    1. Kyle "I quit" Orton
    2. The inexperienced/developing Tyrod Taylor (who seems to forget he's on the field when it matters)

WRT OBJ. he's a whining primadonna who happens to have a SB champ at QB.

how does the qb make sammy drop every crossing pattern that hits him in the hands? also does the qb make sammy fall down immediately after the catch? And does the QB stop him from going up in traffic to snatch or high point a ball? Luckily TT throws nearly a perfect deep ball or sammy would have 2 tds and about 30 catches this year...doubt me? hes last in the league at yac among starters....hard to get yac when youll only catch a pass dropping out of bounds or falling into the endzone...(hes good at those though)
