There were other backs available who combined both more speed and better size.  I assume Beane knew all about them and chose to draft Davis instead.  I figure they must have known what they were doing.

I only watched his highlights, but he looks like a natural RB with great vision and cuts, able to choose the right way to go and get the most yards possible. Hopefully he's a hit!

I still say if the new DB coach feels he can get Elam up to speed, move Douglas to Safety.  Then do an extension at a safety rate of pay.

The guy plays the position (CB) IMO opinion as well as any Bill has recently, not sure id risk moving him to safety. Id be more open to Elam being moved honestly.

I would be helpful to know how the offenses we played in the regular season were ranked compared to the offenses in the postseason. You can pad stats against bad qbs/ teams on the regular season. A little different against Mahomes and Burrow.

The zone defense has been atrocious against the Elite and sometimes even good QBs during the playoffs, they pick it apart. I like McDermott but wish he would have been hacked and we could have brought in a real defensive scheme, I miss that Schwartz defense we had even though it was just 1 year we had it, it was a real defense.

You either have Pat Josh or Lamar or you don't , impossible to rank the rest

I'm guessing some are leaving Burrows out because he got injured? Heck Lamar has had a good year but I think everyone is overreacting a bit with him, his previous two years were nothing special passing wise and I wouldn't be surprised one bit if he regresses next year. Think Dak catches too much heat for underperforming in the playoffs as well, he was amazing during the year.

I concluded the same thing yesterday.  I think it's pretty simple.   First, the defense let the Bills down on Sunday.   Yes, it could have been nothing more than missing Milano and Bernard in the middle, but the others weren't good enough to step up.  Hyde apparently is gone, Poyer will be gone soon enough, Jones likely is gone, too.  White is a question mark.   The defense needs help.

The offense, on the other hand, is pretty well set.   I'd love to have a better running back to pair with Cook.   People moan about the receivers, but I think the moaning is way out of line with reality.  The Bills had the eighth most passing yards in the league, only 30 yards a game less than the top teams.  Kincaid now has his rookie season under his belt, and he can be expected to be better next season.  Diggs was 13th in yards and 7th in receptions in the league.  Shakir is coming on.   The offensive line was solid.   Bills will need a center, and upgrades anywhere are always nice.   However, compared to the defense, the offense is relatively set - it was one of the best offenses in the league.

So, yeah, I'm all in with going heavy on defense in the draft and free agency.

The defense has let us down every year in the playoffs, no matter what resources we spent on it in any given year. I think the scheme sucks, the zone is crap against the best QBs, hence it gets picked apart every year. Inside the 20 at the very least, why can't we play more man to man?

All the more reason it's pointless invest so heavily in a DL when elite QBs will pick you apart anyway.

The defensive system has to change, the zone sucks the good QBs pick it apart. Our last game every year is the same way, the QB drops back and throws to the openings in this crappy defense.

Yes McDermott made Bass 25% in the playoffs.   Think about that 25% has a kicker ever had a worse playoffs?

    And still it's McDermott...God people.

It's McDermotts assinine zone defense that can't stop anything every year in the playoffs.

Allen with the blatant fake slide on the long run, then later draws a 15 yard penalty on a late hit on slide where the defender didn't hit his head.....but can you blame him for going for the tackle based on the fake earlier?

The slide is a play intended to protect the QB, not to do what Allen did.  That was garbage.

    Wahhh

Will be there for at least three weeks.  They will elevate him very weekend and put him back into the PS.  It is a 3 game tryout

We disagree, he is healthier than last year and IMO if he remains that way in - weeks he's lifting that trophy with his teammates. Positive thinking Ricky Bobby...

I find it very peculiar that Tre and Elam were both on the field so little. In a season where the team’s depth has been taxed so severely every active spot is important. Having two corners who are basically non participants is questionable. If it truly is a mental block with Tre, then I guess just getting him out there is a step in the right direction. I wish we could have seen him later in the game though. Elam was on the field in the 4th for at least one play. I think he was maybe an emergency option this week and not part of the plan.

As far as I know Elam was out like last week?

  11. I'm hoping AJ Klein is well rested and is really our starting MLB in place of Tremaine. With Aj 92 yards, without 158. Hoping if they are running it down our throats we think about going to 3 backers during the game.

    I know, I know -- it's early, and you'll say I'm jumping the gun.

I don't care. I've seen enough: Khalil Shakir should be the starting slot receiver going forward, even when McKenzie and Crowder return to full health.

At the very least, he should be splitting reps with McKenzie and seeing more playing time than Jamison Crowder.

He runs great routes. He constantly seems to get open. He has relatively sure hands (one bad concentration drop yesterday not withstanding). He offers run-after-catch ability that this offense often lacks. He has the frame and build to withstand the tough over-the-middle work.

Aside from all of that, he just passes the eyeball test in a way that the Bills' other two slot options do not. Frankly, he looks like a star in the making.

I love McKenzie as a player and am glad he's on the roster, but has he looked like a dynamic full time slot option to anyone over the first four games? He hasn't looked that way to me. I like Crowder, too. He's a solid, dependable veteran depth option. Again, though: he doesn't seem to pop off the screen the way Shakir was.

I have figured all along that Shakir would be brought along slowly, that he'd be more of a contender for starting duties in 2023 or 2024. Given McDermott's M.O., that still may happen. I don't think it should, though. I've seen enough. He's the best option to start in the slot. The coaches always preach getting the best players on the field, regardless of tenure or pedigree. If they're true to their word, Shakir should start seeing more opportunities. I hope he doIhavent

I can't say I've read this take on here, though I'm no to here often. I guess I just assumed most like me figured this was the inevitable at some point watching g him play in the preseason. So I'm not sure this take is as hot.as you think it is?

Is anyone confused why Hodgins, who had a great Spring and preseason, is not activated to the 53 roster with obvious injuries (and alarming lack of production) from Davis and minimal output from Crowder? There may not be an open spot but is Kumerow even available?

His special teams play is not on par with the other guys he competed with for those final two spots, he might come up now but Austin is the more obvious choice since he can return punts if it is only one guy.

Yes that is the response because you know what those plays happen EVERY FREAKING snap.  and every freaking week there are post crying about the refs missed calls on every board, swing on over to the ravens board and read what they thing of the Refs.

The picture can be misleading for sure, but edge rushers being held that obviously is usually called. The interior linemen tend to get away with it more often because obviously their are more obstructions. While I agree holding happens every downtown to a degree, not on an edge rushers moments away from creating chaos for the quaterback.
