Of course it is wrong. Shame on you for rooting against a Bills' player while he is still on the team.
I can't believe some of you call yourselves "Bills' fans".

You're right about that. Tyson's reign was the last time that there was any excitement surrounding heavyweight boxing. Since then, there's been the aging cruiserweight Holyfield, George Foreman boxing until he was 48, and the dull, safe boxing of the confused British/Canadian/Jamaican, Lennox Lewis. The current champ, Klitschko, doesn't generate any interest.
Larry Holmes is an interesting case. He held the unified title from 78-83, but was widely considered the champ for another year or two (he voluntarily relinquished one if his belts in 83). I guess I consider his reign the beginning of the decline. He was a dominant champ (48-straight victories), but, for the most part, fought a weak class of competitor. It's not as if he ducked guys, but the quality just wasn't there. The younger guys were bums, and the big names were way over the hill. Holmes beat them all. He probably deserves a little more credit than he receives, simply for his ability to take on, and vanquish, all comers.
Tyson fought the same class of opponents (or worse), than Holmes. Tyson, of course, won in an exciting and dominant style, which appealed to the viewers. Whether it was due to the loss of Gus, or simply Mike's nature or limited skill-set, Tyson never advanced to become anything other than a "shock and awe" destruction machine. He won via intimidation, and serious knock out power. Mike never really did figure out how to box with a fighter than didn't fear him, and could take a punch. When that rare opponent also came with his own punching power, Tyson almost invariably lost.
Holyfield is a guy who deserves to be remembered in a more favorable light. He is probably the best "boxer" of the recent champs. But, despite being undersized, he eschewed a defensive style (which likely would have extended his career) for a "warrior" approach, that usually produced positive results. He has done himself no favors by continuing to fight well past his time, but in his prime he was an excellent fighter despite his size.
The guy who might have been a terrific champ, if he wasn't mentally disturbed, was Riddick Bowe. And if he wasn't stupid, and dirty, I wonder how Andrew Golota would have fared.
We look to be in the age of the Russian (or Eastern Europe) heavyweight, now. It will be interesting to see if any of these guys can last, and capture the public's imagination.

Put you down for 200 since that was your second post in this thread, rather than 192.
Honestly I think he meant 192, which IS pushing 200. Dunno why anyone needs to make it confusing, though.
My guess: 105

I didnt have the misfortune of watching that. Just the current NE misery. Im too young. Just really started to comprehend football in the mid-eightees. I hated the Dolphins, but just because of the only real direct competition in the East. I havent carried any animosity for them from that though. I wish we could have hopped in that division with Cleveland and Pittsburgh.
I cant stand any NYC-area sports team by default.
There ya go. For most of us old timers, Miami will always be the most hated team in the conference. The Pats* are running a close second, these days.
Funny, because I think the worst of the visiting fans are Jets' fans. Totally obnoxious.

Right on cue, McLain rumbles, bumbles, stumbles for the 82 yard TD
I guess they don't have Jauron and Turk's playbook.
-
perfect time for a play action pass to the fullback
I hear Shoop and the Bulldog think it is the perfect call.

McGahee got halfway to El Paso before any Cowboys touched him
Then, of course, he posed for 15 minutes. Willis' stats are horrid, this year...but, that run will give them a boost.
Funny that we bag on the Bills O-Line so much, yet after Sunday, Marshawn might have a only couple hundred fewer yards than MaGahee and McClain combined. Add Fred to the mix, and they have more rushing yards and a much better YPC, than their Raven counterparts. Just think if they actually committed to the running game.
FYI, Marshawn has had 20 or more carries only four times, so far this year. The most carries Jackson has had in any one game is 12. By comparison, McGagee has three games with 20+ carries, and counting tonight, McClain has four.
Just food for thought...that's all.

I thought he acted his parts perfectly in Eternal Sunshine... and The number 23 (or whatever that was called). The "overactor" label is something that I always thought was a lot of crap. His parts called for that kind of thing...it's why he was cast. He wasn't overacting, he was hamming it up as the character called for.
To each their own, I guess. Based on the TV spot for "Yes Man", it looks like there is another stinker on the way.

I wish you people would make up your mind. Last week you were pissed that Palin was still in the spotlight. This week you start a thread about her and keep bumping it.
"you people"?
Hmmmmm

Oh, there is no question she pals around with drug addict dealers. I'd be shocked if she were not a drug addict and dealer herself, because, well, you know full well that if you're associate with someone you have the same tendencies, or at the very least fully support their actions. Not only that but she was already abusing and dealing when Palin invited her into her family. So obviously Sarah knew and approved. Because, well, that's what you talk about when you're a bad person, all the bad stuff.
And, THAT is precisely why it is a story about Palin. Had she not been so vehement, during the campaign, when going out of her way to damn Obama with the actions of people he knew, it would not be a story. It is a story of hypocrisy and not much more, actually.

Perhaps. I do think, however, that it's rather amusing and just, (and this is obviously conjecture but I'd bet anything on it), that they really forced Levi into the (shotgun) wedding plans. I'd really doubt if he planned on getting married immediately. But after the pregnancy all came out in public, they all decided it would look much better for the impending election and Vice Presidency with the party faithful if Bristol were engaged and married when she gave birth. So the Palin family welcomed the Johnston family into their loving inner God-fearing brood. So alas, now Levi's mother is part of the family, the Palin's didn't win the election, and now the family has a (likely) drug dealing addict felon in its midst. What good fun.
Does Palin "pal around" with drug dealers?

Unbelievable. It may be innocent tho-they did say "herbs" If they had said "buds" I might suspect something. Right.
Herbs, tobacco, you are free to vaporize whatever you like, I suppose.
Better for the environment, and much healthier for the lungs.

Does smoking pot cost you a carbon credit?

I'm not certain how relevant his books being best sellers is. Jackie Collins and Tom Clancy have had at least twice that many. That doesn't mean that Collins books are good, or that Clancy's are bad (or vice versa depending on perspective), it only means they caught on w/ the right PR people to promote what their books were about. Couldn't Franken's Ivy League ties and ability to shamelessly selfpromote have had something to do w/ his book sales?
Well, I certainly agree that popularity doesn't equal quality.

And Tim Meadows was on that show for 10+ years and Darryl Hammond has probably been around that long as well. A long tenure actually can imply hitting a journeyman status, where a person was good enough to get in, but not move on. (And part of being good enough to get in sometimes is going to the right school, etc. My opinion of Franken is that he was at the right Ivy League school at the right time and kissed the right butt to get in. The guy NEVER made it on his own, provided Governer Ventura's subjects don't throw this one to him.)
As I wrote earlier, please tell me what he's done that was funny. I didn't find his Franken and Davis skits funny (although some of Davis' lines were funny; if Al wrote them, I'll give him credit for that), nor did I find his WU commentary funny. Stuart Smiley was PAINFULLY unfunny. Al, as a typical politician, has always appeared to be about himself. Considering he has never DONE anything tangible (other than self promote), I truly hope he does not end up in the "exclusive club". If he HAS done something other than self-promote under the radar, please let me know. I've seen no evidence of it.
Well, as SNL doesn't list credits for individual sketches, it's hard to know what sketches Franken wrote, co-wrote or added to (as a writer). But, SNL doesn't simply keep writers around that long, if they, in their estimation, they don't contribute to the "funny" of the show. While it is possible that he stayed with the show that long because of who he knew, it simply isn't the most likely explanation. You are basing your "guess" on the fact that you don't like Franken. I would guess that you are probably wrong, based on what I know about how shows operate. You aren't necessarily wrong, but I think you probably are, in this case.
Your choice of Hammond and Meadows were horrible for your case, too. Hammond, in particular, is an excellent comic sketch actor. Meadows wasn't bad (but not a star), either. Neither are comedians...they are comic actors, and excel at the sketch form (and can do it live). Hammond has a particular set of skills and looks that not many people can pull off. Neither are Phil Hartman, but they are solid SNL cast members. But, remember, the actors are not the writers (in most cases).
Judging a writer's comedic writing skills by his performances is not a good strategy, IMO. Most writers (even very good ones) can't be funny performing ANYTHING. So, to say Franken wasn't likely to be funny writer because you didn't find the sketches he performed in to be funny is flawed, IMO. It is more likely that the producers of SNL (and the network execs that over see the show) found Franken to be a valuable asset as a writer, or he wouldn't have lasted so long with the program.
From what little I have read of his books, they don't do much for me. But, five of his books have become NY Times bestsellers. So, apparently there are people who find his books funny, too.
-
Not sure what it has to do with his Senatorial bid, but Franken is (or at least was) considered to be a very good comic writer. The fact that he was with SNL twice, for a total of 15 years says something, I think. While SNL has many writers at any one time, not many have that kind of longevity with the show..
I'm not crazy about most of Franken's performances (although some of the stuff he did on SNL was fairly funny), but that doesn't say much about his talent as a sketch comedy writer. The supremely unfunny Conan O'Brien is also supposedly a very good comedy writer (about 3 years at SNL and one or two with the Simpsons), and I don't know if he has ever made me laugh as a performer.

I'm going to Vegas that same week. Was actually just there the first week of December on a fun trip, but Jan 13-17, I'm there for a trade show. Fortunately, the business is picking up the tab - staying at the MGM, the show is at Mandalay Bay.
Thehotel @ Mandalay Bay has some good deals, sometimes. Looks pretty nice, too:

If she is set on the venetian, this will not work. But, I use Priceline all the time for hotels. Works friggen great. For instance, going to NYC for a few days during Chritmas week. Got two nights at the Intercontinental for $125/night plus tax. Rate on their website was over $300/nite.
I would think in Vegas they are way below capacity, especially right after new Years. I would go on Priceline and put in 4 star hotel and start at $50 a night, be surprised if you did not get an awesome room for that price
I, too, was going to suggest this, except the wife seemed to want the Venetian...or I imagine a top end Vegas hotel. I only have one or two caveats.
In Vegas, most of the major strip hotels are at least 4 stars. But, there are real differences between the quality of, say the Statosphere, Luxor and Venetian or Palazzo. That's always good enough for me, but if it's a special trip, and she wants to stay at a VERY nice hotel, start with 5 star-only, and pick only one section of the strip (you have to choose from pre-defined areas)..the area where the Venetian is, for example. Name a low price ($50, maybe $75).
Unless they have changed their routine: You HAVE to take what they find (they give themselves an hour, or something to return your deal). If they can't find anything, you can't simply re-bid the same criteria for a few more dollars...you have to make at least one change (other than price). So, you can expand your regions to one more area of the strip. If that doesn't work, you can add 4 star hotels, on the 3rd try...etc.
I used to use this method for NYC all the time. Only once did I not get a pretty great-to-very good hotel...and it was still good.
Also, check Priceline's "PriceBreakers" page for packages.

I've wondered about this myself. After all, I doubt there's something different about a black man's physique that makes him more suited for running back than a white person. Personally, I think you can take it back to the high school level. Take two players, one white and one black, with the exact same skill sets. The black player is turned into a running back. The white player is turned into a safety, or told to pack on a few pounds and become a fullback or tight end. I don't know where this comes from, but it's the best explanation I can come up with.
It seems as if the only way a white player can become a starting RB is to hang back at FB and wait for guys to get injured. Sam McGuffie, a freshman RB from Michigan, might be the next legitimate white speed rusher.
For years, of course, black players were coached away from being QBs. Thankfully, that has changed some over the years.
AFAIK, fast talented white players are STILL coached away from being CBs from a very early age. As you note, they might be turned into safeties, if they bulk up a little.

We all know hindsight is 20/20 but if we really took the 2005 season and said now way JP is a starting QB and knew the JOb wa open for Competition in 2006. Would you have taken Jay Cutler (11th pick) with the 8th pick instead of Whitner or would you have stayed the course????
ME I would have taking Cutler then we wouldnt be looking for a QB anymore
Cutler would have fared no better here, than JP or Edwards, IMO.

I'm taking my wife to Vegas the second week of January and I was wondering if anyone had any tips on getting good package deals. When I've been to Vegas before I never really cared about where I stayed, shows or any of that stuff women want to do. She hasn't been to Vegas and would really like to stay at the Venetian. I've done tavelocity/Orbitz etc. sites, anyone have any other suggestions for finding the best deals? Seems to me there should be some great deals right now. Also interested in what shows people would suggest.
You probably already looked...but, just in case, if she really wants to stay at the Venetian, have you tried looking at the Venetian website? They actually offer some decent packages directly. Here's an example:
http://www.venetian.com/Pages.aspx?id=152
From previous experience, it seems like the Venetian is one of the tougher hotels to get great deals from on the discount sites. But, it's been a while since I had any reason to look. I did a sidestep.com search (compares prices across several discount sites) for the second week in January, and Orbitz came out the lowest price at about $180/night...but, that wasn't a package.
If you are more flexible on the hotel, check this place for packages:

I forgot about the fight, last night. Apparently it was a snooze fest, but they say that Holyfield actually acquitted himself fairly well, against the 7' circus freak.
