1. the deals that The Seahawks and Jets offered are similar to what the Pats were offering

    763154

    Really? How so?

According to this article, he was offered a 3 year, $18.75M extension to his contract by the Patriots. This means he still plays this year at $1.045 million + potentially some signing bonus money, for a potential total of $20M over the next 4 years.

According to the above-linked article, he was offered "a six-year, $39 million deal that included $13 million in combined bonuses and would have paid him about $23 million over the first three years."

Yeah, if you take the Pats extension amount and double it (3 years versus 6), it's about the same amount of dollars, but if you are looking at it from how much he will receive now (which a player always has to consider, because there's no guarantee that he'll still be playing in three years...), the Seattle deal is much more lucrative. All other things equal, $23M over 3 years is much better than $20M over 4.

It's not as much a matter of how much as when...

  2. No, I think I've got it right, but I'm not certain as to the specifics.

You may recall, a few yrs ago, Daniel $nyder charged admission for 'Skins camp, but  one of the reasons the practice was stopped was that it allowed scouts to see them.

The NFL wants to promote to the public & one of the ways is to allow free viewing of practices.

    763169

    Yup.

    Toward the bottom:

The move also could have hurt them on the field. Charging for the practices would have opened the doors for scouts from around the league to come to training camp and get a head start on game-planning for the season.

The NFL bans scouts from the free practices in training camp, allowing them to attend only events for which the team sells tickets.

There's this thing called google. You put in phrases like NFL scouts "training camp" "charge admission" and the link above comes up as the first option. Don't trust everything it gives you as gospel, but if it's an article on NFL.com, I think it can be trusted....See GG for more details on how to use this tube-based tool...

  3. Belichick actually talked about this in a presser or interview recently. He says that playbooks aren't worth a lot for a lot of the reasons already listed. They tend to have 5x the number of plays a team will use, generally aren't organized by down-and-distance, so while you can know the plays it's knowing when those plays will be run (and what nuances the players put into those plays...who does their job/who doesn't) that makes the difference.

And he did have a good point this week in saying that a player like Fast Freddie will be busy enough getting up to speed on the Pats' playbook in order to be able to produce this weekend. Will they know more about the Bills than they would have had they not signed Smith? Sure, but I wouldn't put too much weight on it.

  4. This is just a placeholder for now. You know that this weekend he may likely say something smarmy about the Bills, so I just wanted to make sure I created the first Bob Costas sucks thread. Of course if he says only nice things about the Bills, then I will change the thread title, but for now, since he's part of that evil conglomerate known as the "National Sportscasters" we will assume he's part of the "Anti-Bills Conspiracy." Besides, it's not about who's good, it's about who sucks...

  6. You can have cable for broadband but DirecTV for television.  I do it.

    CW

    759640

Not only that but you can bounce between broadband providers and keep your prices low....I know we get both Earthlink and TW here, and usually about the time that our promotional price on one finishes, the other is offering us a promotional price to sign up. As long as you get your e-mail elsewhere, it's seamless...just a different name on the broadband bill...

  7. How can you have a completion rate of 50+% if every other ball bounces off the ground at the receivers' feet? :)

Hey, VaBills, do you agree with JP's self-assessment?

Losman said. "I'm not hopping and bouncing. Last year I got back too fast and things weren't open yet. So then I'm hitching and hitching kind of fast, and it throws you off a little. Then I'd try to gun it in at the last second. So obviously you'll have inaccurate passes."

  8. Glad he can play golf while Coy Wire's future hangs in the balance...inconsiderate bastard :)

    759250

    Wasn't Coy with him?

DJ: That's a mighty fine swing, son. You should think about the pro golf tour.

CW: Well gee, coach, I can't golf and play football at the same time...

DJ: Let me take care of that hurdle for you, son.

  9. And yards per completion JP is ranked 23. Your buddy Holcomb is ranked 6. You've obviously missed the point of my post. These stats don't mean jack.

    758498

Yeah, you're right. When you remove Holcomb's longest pass (32 yards), his remaining 8 completions average 6.8 yards....

  10. Hey, Mock! Can we get an exclusion for Mr. King here and enter him in the Dinner's On Me Smart-Ass Contest ?

And, the way I read it, the +/- 1 games could go either way. Doesn't that mean the "max" the Bills could do is 12 wins?

Funny how they have less of a chance to beat the Dolphins, at home, in Winter, during "Dolphin December Slide" season, then in Miami at the beginning of the season in the heat before the Bills have had a chance to gel...

  11. Always interesting when a company that sells security products for cell phones "does a study to unveil" security issues on cell phones....You don't suppose that they have a product for sale that completely erases and/or secures said data...

Not to say it isn't true, but...

  12. Just to keep it in the same thread, the guys on SIRIUS (not sure who, but one was a defensive lineman) said appox. 1/2 hour ago that the Bills should trade Holcomb. He refused to name a name, but said that a prominent player on the Bills offense wanted Holcomb as the starter earlier this year.

    756180

But he forgot to mention the rest of the story, where said prominent player was traded to Houston...

  13. People expect the media to wear the same rose-colored glasses that they wear. If the media does not come across as Bills homers, then "they are idiots," "they don't know what they are talking about," blah...blah...blah. The same thing happens here when someone posts a comment that does not have the Bills in the Superbowl every year.

    756117

Actually, the "idiots" are folks who work at the extreme on either side. The "we're going to the Superbowl every year" folks get shouted down as bad as the "Doooooomed, 0-16" folks. Otherwise, RJOSEPH would be king of posters here...

  14. The cost to the Bills was a wasted 4th round pick. Something was ventured, but nothing was returned.

It's not a wash if you get nothing for a 4th rounder.

    755961

What do you mean? We got a 2nd rounder for the 4th rounder.

  15. Except that the NFL Network is NOT part of basic cable on the other major cable companies' lineups.

    755604

Yeah, that person didn't get the particulars exactly right. NFL Network is NOT part of basic cable, but it is also NOT part of a dedicated "Sports Tier" on any of those cable networks. That is where the battle lies....

  16. Anyone else notice the timing of the announcement that JP will be the starter? After reading some of Lee & Willis' statements in the press over the last few days, along withs some other starters it seemed like they thought that JP was clearly the guy. It appears that Jauron was waiting until Losman had the clear and public support of the key players on at least the offense to make it official. If so that is a great idea to alleviate some of the animosity that was seen in last years locker room that was the result of JP not earning it. Good psychology. Very shrewd. I am really starting to like Jauron.

    755762

But...but...but....Willis went with Holcomb to his interview with Kirwan, not Losman...

  17. It is a joke, he's not 2, he's 5.

    755685

Okay that would make more sense. Was trying to figure out how he was posting here before he was even conceived. Of course I could have easily used VABills math...

Still, he was an early typer. I was proud of my daughters' "mousing" skills at 2 years old...
