I know. Why in the world would we want to draft a DT or OLB instead of another CB?
-
Overall, I like the pick. However, given our extra 4th rounder, I would have liked to have the option to move up for Oher, Matthews or Jerry as these positions are traditionally more valued than C/G.
-
When Jackson, Sanchez and DHB went off the board, I was excited. Monroe, Raji, Crabtree... Maybin? Ugh. One of our DE's will be making huge money to not start.
At least Oher or Cushing would be earning their money.
-
My wish list:
1a. Curry OLB or Raji DT
1b. Britton/Beatty OT
2. Michael Johnson DE
3. Chip Vaughn SS
4a. Kraig Urbik OG
4b. Cornelius Ingram TE
-
I'm all in favor of a trade down from #11 but not in this case. The Bills would be nuts to pass on Curry.
-
A seventh rounder? With his potential upside? YES! He can start at OLB in 2010, make the Pro Bowl in 2011. Then hold out and we can trade him to the Eagles for a late first and a fourth.
-
What is going on? Why is everyone so quick to crucify Whitner? Just maybe there was an overzealous cop in Cleveland, just maybe he had a bone to pick with a pro athlete and decided he could take it out on a young black man named Whitner. Have you already forgotten about Moats in Houston? What did he do? NOTHING!
I know, what's up with that? I blatantly ran a red light in full view of a cop yesterday and was appalled that he had the temerity to pull me over.
-
Was Whittner charged with a count of being black too? Strange how we never hear about white players getting busted for being "disorderly." Sounds to me like another cop wanting to put an NFL player of color in his place. Just saying.
PTR
Cops want to put everyone in their place. A simple "No, sir. Yes, sir." and he walks. We have no idea what happened but 99% of the people who left that club did NOT get arrested.
I doubt a Cleveland cop recognized Donte. I wouldn't. In addition, he's not so huge that you'd automatically assume he's an NFL player. If he said, "I'm Donte Whitner of the Buffalo Bills", then he's a moron. Peons of all shapes/sizes/colors react the same way to that type of behavior.
Due to the racial makeup of the league, it's reasonable that there are twice as many stories (good or bad) regarding AA players.
Just sayin'
-
It's almost gotten to the point where I want to hear this conversation:
"Jason, I helped make this league. I'm old, rich and just don't give a phuk. 31 other teams passed you by 7 times. 7! I gave your sorry a&^ a six figure salary as a UFA, now you make more than most people will in a lifetime. I offered to double your salary and you basically spat in my face. As my last gasp, I am going show you what I think of today's players and agents. Show up and you'll work with the scout team, don't show up and I don't have to pay you. Either way you won't play a down in the NFL for the next 2 years. Good luck with your next contract. Nuh, nuh, nuh gone."
If we're gonna go 7-9 anyway, let's do it with some dignity.
-
I think it's trade JP OR the pick. 11 is a great place to be in this draft. There's probably five guys guaranteed to go in the top ten. I would rather the Bills have their choice of trading down if Crabtree/Sanchez is available, Smith v. Oher, Raji v. Perla, Brown v. Ayers, etc. as opposed to simply taking who's left at 22.
-
Hope, angst, frustration, despair, hope, anger, pride, indifference.
We're basically a .500 team but take away one for the Pats and we're 7-9. Again.
If we sign Cato June and a playmaker falls to 11 and we draft a starting LG in round 2 or 3 and Fine progresses and DJ's horrible in-game gaffes somehow don't affect us; then I agree 19-0.
-
A) Moats broke the law.
B) Location is irrelevant.
C) Leaping out of the car and running from cops is a bad idea.
D) Some people are dicks. Some people are cops. Ergo, some dicks are cops.
E) A few minutes of rational thought by anyone involved at some point could have avoided this situation.
-
Sadly, it was a ugly situation all around. I don't blame Moats, the cop or the passengers although they all contributed to the poor handling of the incident.
-
Given our current OL situation, I can't see why you wouldn't resign him as a backup. He's young, experienced, versatile, knows our system and we are woefully thin on the interior.
-
We can't because as of this moment we need the following things:
Starting TE
Starting OLG
Starting OLB
Starting DE or DT (a replacement to either Kyle or Kelsay, for pass-rush)
Starting SS (IMO Scott/Simpson don't cut it next to Whitner)
-
Starting OLT (Only if Jason Peters is going to be a problem and is traded)
As far as a Safety, TE, or DE/DT goes; the free agent market is slim to none. We need to replace those positions with draft picks.
Basically, we have a LOT of holes on this team. As sweet as having Cutler would be, QB isn't a need.
I am not a huge Cutler fan but if the "brass" believes Cutler is a bona fide Pro Bowler and the jury is still out on TE, I think it should be considered. The only reason he's available is a change in regime and internal politics. No one saw this coming.
Other needs aside, it's whether Cutler > Edwards and #11. Chances are in 3 years, one team will be a huge winner in this proposed trade. I just don't know which team it will be.
-
If Peters does leave this team...
I say the Bills should
1. Resign Crowell
2. Grab a TE in the 2nd round of the draft - lots of depth this draft
3. Keep the same D-Line we have...eugh... maybe sign Jason Taylor...who knows.
4. Draft a LT in the 1st round
What would you do if Peters was to go?
If Peters leaves, we def get another first rounder. Obviously you go LT with one of the picks. If one of the top 3 is there at 11, pull the trigger. If not, you could still get Oher or Smith in the high teens/twenties.
Crowell/June
TE and Guard/C in the second or third depending on whose available.
4th BPA
I would still want to add one vet FA OL to give us some flexibility.
-
Bob Sanders went too early for us to get him, but I would have done anything for him. We missed the boat by not picking Ngata.
We also could have paid for Wes Whelker.
I nullified the trade up with Dallas for JP which gave us back our #2 and the following years #1. I believe Sanders was available. (I could be wrong, I could have been looking at Dallas' own pick)
Lee, ML, Whitner, Edwards, Poz were all decent picks at the time. As someone else stated, it's difficult to assess the '07 and '08 class so soon.
-
2008- Joe Flacco/Desean Jackson
2007- Darrelle Revis/LaMarr Woodley/Ray McDonald
2006- Antonio Cromartie /Nick Mangold/Jerrious Norwood/Brandon Marshall
2005- Heath Miller/Channing Crowder/Kyle Orton/Jason Brown
2004- Steven Jackson/Bob Sanders/Michael Turner/Max Starks/Ernest Wilford
These picks were made per our actual draft position with intention of adding them to the 2009 roster pre-FA and draft. We would lose Evans, ML, McKelvin, Edwards, Poz etc.

I love Josh Reed, right now he's the only consistent receiver we have, but if we got Coles, there'd be no need for Reed on this team anymore. Coles is the same exact player as Reed, only 5 times better. Reed is a poor man's Coles, and there's no reason to have both. Everyone has a role in that group: Jenkins is the special teams ace, Roscoe is the best punt returner in the league, Evans is our #1 and deep threat, Hardy and Johnson are both young up and coming players, and Reed is our go-to, clutch player who catches timely passes over the middle and on 3rd downs. Coles replaces that, and then what does Josh do that Coles doesn't?
If we signed Coles, I see only 3 people who could go. Jenkins, Reed or Roscoe. They just gave Jenkins a long-term deal, and there's no one else in that group that can play special teams like he does. Roscoe is the best punt returner in the league, but its still possible they try to trade him. The most logical person to leave would be Reed. It is his role that is being upgraded and replaced. I think our 3 receivers would look great with Evans, Coles and Johnson. And then there's Hardy, and even Roscoe. I love all that Josh Reed has done for this team since he's been here, but if we sign Coles, he no longer has a role and a place IMO.
I disagree. Reed is our best slot receiver. Why keep a ST gunner instead of a guy who will see 30% of the offensive snaps?
-
They should have the same mindset when it comes to the draft.
-
Initially, I like the move but am surprised they didn't resign Duke Preston as a backup at C/G. It would have given them alot more flexibility in reorganizing the line through free agency and the draft. Currently, we have 2 gaping holes on the OL and no backups on the interior, with apologies to 33 yr. old journeyman Jason Whittle.
I see this move potentially really pissing me off when we take are forced to take a C/G when a clear BPA situation exists in the later rounds.
I'd leave JP, Butler and Walker in place.
-
I read a summary of the combine and they said Sanchez had a great combine and with another good outing on his proday it could cement him as a top 10 pick and even see some teams trying to trade up to get him. In fact, they were speculating on SF taking him at 10 and saying with a good pro day he wont be there at 10.
If he's there at 11, do we trade down with the Jets for #17 and #53?
-
Using your stats: we are looking at 191 ypg passing, 12 TD's, 14.5 INT's and 32 sacks as a basic average?
Compare that to QB "X" who compiled 206 ypg, 17 TD's, 15 INT's and 46 sacks. The sacks would nearly offset the ypg difference and INT's are virtually identical. Trent has a QB rating five points higher while not having as many TD's.
Great argument except this mythical QB just won the Super Bowl.

I think you're born that way. Just like some people are born stupid.
