The Next Pandemic: SARS-CoV-2/COVID-19
Kemp replied to Hedge's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Could have sworn that Trump referred to himself as a wartime president. If he wasn't referring to the virus he has delusionally convinced himself that we're fighting a war with another country. It's probably Greenland. The virus isn't affecting 1 state. It's infecting every state. It needs to have a plan from the top, a consistent strategy, not a hey you guys figure it out because I'm too busy tweeting about my ratings. You know, like the way you would look at this if it was a Dem president. -

This is my 3rd and last time answering. I have no idea how Trump planned to do it. It was up to him to come up with the specifics. When Ebola was an issue, Christie quarantined people, I believe at the airport. Certainly there are more people involved in this pandemic, but if we were to protect America from being overun with the virus, Trump and his people should have made the necessary arrangements. If you believe this couldn't be done, I disagree, and the fact that it wasn't done, opened the floodgates. What you seem to be implying is that it couldn't have worked, which raises the question as to what Trump meant when he said it. This would in turn mean, that as usual, Trump was merely saying what popped into his head at that moment and he never had any intention of stopping the virus. He repeatedly says what a great job he did by shutting down travel from China, which really isn't accurate. In any case, if he thinks he did it with China, why didn't he do it with Europe after saying he would. It's always the same story. He says he's doing a magnificent job. When things go wrong he bears no responsibility and looks for others to blame. Either he meant to shut down travel from Europe or he didn't. If he meant it, he failed. If he didn't mean it, he was just blowing smoke up America's collective ass. Neither is impressive leadership. -

Surely you must understand that lots of people in that situation didn't self-quarantine. The government telling people to do anything will always be disregarded by a certain percentage.. Even though people in NYC have been told to always wear a mask in public and to social distance, I would estimate that somewhere between 30-50% of the people I see now are not following these rules, anymore. Early on, compliance was near perfect. You also see it with all of the people across the country protesting the shutdown. They are overwhelmingly rejecting masks and especially social distancing. NYC has still managed to flatten the curve and it is bending downwards. This will change as the city opens up and people grow impatient. The rest of America, where compliance is even worse, are showing a rise in cases of coronavirus. With those states opening up while the numbers are growing, it is likely that they will not fare well. This might not be the case, but that's the way I would bet. -

I'm pretty sure I answered that, but I will do it again. Trump talked of testing and quarantining people coming from Europe, which never happened. As to the specifics of the quarantine, I assumed that he had a detailed plan and that the plan would be followed. It's not my job to figure out the logistics. The problem, as usual, is that Trump said something without thinking it through and most certainly never had a detailed plan. He just likes the sound of his own voice.. That's why it never happened and why the virus came pouring into America from Europe. -

Lots of drugs are good for some things. That has nothing to with how drugs affect other things. This particular drug is good for malaria. What does that have to do with Covid? In the only verifiable study when it was used against Covid, MORE people died than with other treatments. Aside from Trump and Fox bringing it up, why is it even being talked about? I think he either has a profit motive or he heard something and now wants it to work so he can be revered. Which question didn't I answer? -

The only evidence is that you're more likely to die from it. Wonder why Trump loves it so much? Most likely a profit motive or his ego refuses to admit he's wrong. -

Yeah, I think the guy in charge is responsible for taking the reins for the single biggest event since WWII. -

However Trump originally thought it should be done. If those were his orders, and I have been assured here that they were his orders, presumably he had a plan. Otherwise he was just spewing nonsense. -

I already addressed this earlier in the thread. Cuomo screwed up. Trump has also screwed up. Partisan much? -

Trump ordered everyone tested and the positive quarantined and they didn't comply is your assertion. If we assume this is accurate, which I don't, it would have been reported to him. This was certainly important enough to have been monitored. If not, he screwed up that way. Not one person has been disciplined as a result that I am aware of. Does that make any sense? If you're in charge of something and your orders aren't followed, is it not incumbent upon you to take action? If you're going to take the position that he is unaware of this, this would make him a total buffoon. Thousands of Americans are dead as a direct result. And yes, the fault lies squarely on those in charge. That would be Trump, where the buck never stops. Everything negative is always someone else's fault.. You are right about social distancing not being put into place soon enough, but this would also mean that it should be mandatory now everywhere in America. Trump supporters are flouting this now throughout the country, with Trump cheering them on, and this after we have learned it works. -

No, I'm saying that Trump said they would all be tested. They weren't. If they were tested and found to be positive, they absolutely should have been quarantined. You don't honestly believe that they all self-quarantined. Just going by comments here, it's obvious that a lot of posters here would not have done so. -

Finally, a Trump supporter has admitted he lied. My mistake. I assumed Schengen was China for some reason. Now, according to the other linked document provided, loads of people came from Europe into America without being tested and obviously not quarantined. Right? That means Trump lied, or if we want to be generous, committed an enormous mistake that devastated NY and surrounding areas. -

This linked document will take longer to read. Thanks A quick scan shows that this only applies to China. No mention of Europe. -

I thought H1N1 vaccine was available in 7 months. However, I don't believe there has ever been a successful vaccine for any coronavirus. -

Thank you. This is from your link: Sec. 2. Scope of Suspension and Limitation on Entry. (a) Section 1 of this proclamation shall not apply to: (i) any lawful permanent resident of the United States; (ii) any alien who is the spouse of a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident; (iii) any alien who is the parent or legal guardian of a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident, provided that the U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident is unmarried and under the age of 21; (iv) any alien who is the sibling of a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident, provided that both are unmarried and under the age of 21; (v) any alien who is the child, foster child, or ward of a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident, or who is a prospective adoptee seeking to enter the United States pursuant to the IR-4 or IH-4 visa classifications; (vi) any alien traveling at the invitation of the United States Government for a purpose related to containment or mitigation of the virus; (vii) any alien traveling as a nonimmigrant pursuant to a C-1, D, or C-1/D nonimmigrant visa as a crewmember or any alien otherwise traveling to the United States as air or sea crew; (viii) any alien (A) seeking entry into or transiting the United States pursuant to one of the following visas: A-1, A-2, C-2, C-3 (as a foreign government official or immediate family member of an official), E-1 (as an employee of TECRO or TECO or the employee’s immediate family members), G-1, G-2, G-3, G-4, NATO-1 through NATO-4, or NATO-6 (or seeking to enter as a nonimmigrant in one of those NATO categories); or (B) whose travel falls within the scope of section 11 of the United Nations Headquarters Agreement; (ix) any alien whose entry would not pose a significant risk of introducing, transmitting, or spreading the virus, as determined by the Secretary of Health and Human Services, through the CDC Director or his designee; (x) any alien whose entry would further important United States law enforcement objectives, as determined by the Secretary of State, the Secretary of Homeland Security, or their respective designees, based on a recommendation of the Attorney General or his designee; (xi) any alien whose entry would be in the national interest, as determined by the Secretary of State, the Secretary of Homeland Security, or their designees; or (xii) members of the U.S. Armed Forces and spouses and children of members of the U.S. Armed Forces. At the very least, this means that an awful lot of people that came from Europe were NOT tested, nor quarantined, and I still can't find anything about those in other groups being quarantined. . So, how did Trump not lie? If you believe it was not a lie, was Trump derelict in his duty to protect us? Again, thanks for answering. -

75,000 dead Americans and climbing, including a friend of mine, is no big deal. Four dead in Benghazi was a major story woth 50 investigations. How many have to die or have lifelong health problems before you think it's newsworthy? -

I admire a lone attempt to answer. Since we know with 100% certainty that people came in with the virus, there must be proof of a lot of them being quarantined. If you could provide a link to that, it would be helpful I haven't come upon that info. I have pointed out the lie 3 times. -

He told us what his policy was. It turned out to not be true. That's what a lie is. He was the one responsible for what he said. No one else. He's in charge and didn't do what he explicitly said he would do. That's a 100% lie, no matter how much you want to dance around it. This particular lie caused Americans to die. To me, that's a serious repercussion. It's not a lie about whether he likes candy or not. He's in charge and he lied about something that has now affected all of our lives. What could be a more devastating lie for the people of America? Then again, he says he takes no responsibility for anything. Great leadership. -
