  1. Name some. Make sure they are safeties.

Like Taylor? Probably not. Their games are different. Like Reed? Probably not. Reed has ball skills that few in this game have ever possessed. Like Polamalu? Yeah, I could see that. Of course we have to keep in mind that Whitner has played FS for all of one season in his life.

Larry Wilson, Ken Houston, and Kenney Easley just to name a few. These guys consistently kicked butt regardless of being on lousy teams or not. Does Donte?

  2. How many plays would any player make when the team is completely unable to put pressure on the QB under any circumstance?

There isn't a Safety in the National Football League who plays on an island and it's no secret that the best ones don't play on teams that don't have a single impact pass rusher.

Virtually ALL turnovers and big plays on defense are the result of pressure or disruption on the opposite side of the line of scrimmage. The BILLS get virtually no penetration whatsoever when they rush 4. NONE. The fact that the BILLS get almost no interceptions in the center of the field is not a coincidence.

Whitner is known for playing his position while most of the guys around him are getting blown the !@#$ up. And our fan base blames him for circumstances that are obviously (to football people) beyond his control.

Thank you and the rest of the "football people" in the know who make excuses. I've seen many outstanding defensive players on bad or mediocre teams and despite the lack of talent around them it was obvious that they were great players.

So what you're saying is that he'd be on the level of a Sean Taylor, Ed Reed or Troy Polamalu if only he were on a better defensive team?

  3. Perhaps if the BILLS had players in other positions they wouldn't have to use Whitner the way they do and he might make a few more plays. This team has a lot of problems but Whitner certainly isn't one of them.

Whitner has been a decent player, but what exactly is he known for? Big hitter? Great in coverage? Ball hawk with great range? Excellent run support? I say none of the above. He supposedly fit the Tampa 2 scheme perfectly which was the reason he was drafted so high. Again, he's been pretty good... but in my mind the Return on Investment has not been there to date. He's certainly not the biggest problem on the Bills' D, but not at all an impact, difference making, game changing play maker as one should expect of a high #1 pick.

    Cheers

  4. You guys realise whitner doesn't have to be prepared for a 3-4 defence, becuase he isn't on the field when the other teams defence in on the field.

INT's don't mean everything, sure he hasn't been worthy of a Pro Bowl start, but the guy has been far from horrible, or on the verge of being replaced/cut. People seriously need to get a grip on reality. Whitner was not a horrible pick, and there will always be someone else that might have been a better pick in hindsight

Having a # 8 pick in the entire draft "not be horrible" is just not good enough!! That's exactly why the Bills are mired in mediocrity!

  5. smart, strong, mobile, hostile, and motivated. that's the new cutting edge nfl line, not the over paid peters types -- you want 5 guys as a unit (and particularly 3 in the middle who are machines), not some super star idiot and some softies.

The Steelers proved your point last year.

  6. Bret Favre is a lower top ten qb all time but still the most overrated player all time in any sport. The value he has comes from two places one his ability to stay on the field and with Trent we know how valuable that is. Second he was genuinely a great qb from 1994 to 1997 and 2001 - 2002 as well as 2004 and 2007. His prime years and that record are what catapult him into that top ten status.

But Favre is one guy who should not be near the top five. Since 2002 he has been overrated he was a good qb who faded into an average one and the one last good year he had in 2007 ( his last year with green bay ) was the year his team asked him to manage the game. Favre was loved by the media and for good reason up until these last few years where his dickish nature was revealed he seemed like a really nice guy.

But that love was what made him overrated towards the end of his career he started to fade and balls that he would have jammed in for a TD were now being intercepted but the media would write it off saying it was the receiver's fault or that he was just trying to make things happen and it didn't pan out. He should have retired in 2004 or 2007 off of good years

As for all those records for TD's and yards he had those because he hung around three to four years too many. That year the Packers went 4-12 and he threw 30 picks he was just sad and than the next year when the Packers went 8-8 he looked like a second year qb who was just average.

Once again not saying bret is not a great qb but there are about nine or eight qb's that I would take before him thats all. I don't want a guy who has never at any point in a game never come back from a 14 point hole ever in his career.

Ding Ding Ding....We have a winner!!!

  7. Very funny.

That's when you're supposed to say who's better. Of the guys a bit older, Elway and Young are certainly in Favre's class. Of the guys a bit younger Manning and Brady have an argument. Warner and Big Ben are not there yet IMO. But there have been so many great QB's in NFL history.

Good point....here's my list of who I think was better than Favre:

In no particular order off the top of my head; Elway, Montanna, Peyton Manning, Marino, Steve Young, Johnny U. There are definitely more from past eras.

  8. my girlfriend finally convinced me to get a puppy, against my will, so i'm gonna name it. its got to be after a bill, right now i like Roscoe and Hardy. anyone got any good suggestions? Thurman is allright, i'm not a huge fan of common human names though

    I'm Mike Vick Biatch!!!

  9. Great site - thanks! I love trying to see if I can remember the starters in different years, and the site I used to go to for that is no longer. Now, I can do it again............My favorite all time team is the 80 Bills and I still remember all 24 (kind of - I considered Brammer the starting TE and Rosie Leaks at FB, not Curtis Brown)

That was a great season. I was at the home opener when the Bills broke the 20 game losing streak to the Dolphins. 0 for the 1970's against Miami, that was rough!
