  1. I will give my underrated vote to Todd Gurley. He will probably go in the top 20 when all is said and done but he feels like a "that guy" to me, a dominating NFL player.

Yeah Gurley will def be a star if his knee holds up. He was my favorite player to watch in CFB the last couple years, so bummed when he got hurt.

Bust: Brett Hundley - Maybe he doesn't count because he could be a 3rd-4th rounder but I just don't see him being able to play in the NFL.

Sleeper: Paul Dawson - Blows my mind that most don't have him going in the 1st, dude is a beast!

  2. It really is amazing how great this class has been, the top 4 (Watkins, Evans, Beckham, Benjamin) are already some of the best in the league and will most likely be stars for the next 10 years. When you look at the second tier as well its crazy that the WR class wasn't really that big of a story leading up to the draft. I remember some people mentioning it was a strong class but 4 superstars and 5 more excellent starters?!

That being said, anyone who says they'd prefer any of the others over Watkins is fooling themselves. Beckham is closest but his success depends almost entirely on his elite speed and athleticism which will fade over time and is susceptible to even very minor injuries. Evans plays against 2nd corners and Benjamin gets targeted like 20 times a game so their stats are inflated. Yeah we paid a hefty price but having a superstar like Sammy for the next 10+ years is going to be very sweet.

  3. If judged by opportunity cost (the analytically correct way), then 2011 was pretty bad. Looking at who we could have drafted per round, you get:

Rd 1: Marcel Dareus cost -----> AJ Green, Patrick Peterson, Julio Jones, JJ Watt, Robert Quinn, among others

Rd 2: Aaron Williams cost -----> Andy Dalton, Colin Kaepernick, among others

Rd 3: Kelvin Sheppard cost -----> Justin Houston, Demarco Murray, and anyone still on NFL roster

Rd 4: Da'Norris Searcy cost ----->Jordan Cameron, Julius Thomas ... either of which shores up our TE position

Rd 5: Johnny White cost -----> Richard Sherman ... wow .... and anyone still on NFL roster

Rd 6: Chris White/ traded for Thad Lewis cost -----> anyone still on NFL roster

Rd 7: Justin Rogers cost -----> anyone still on active NFL roster

Rd 7: Mike Jasper cost -----> nothing, no one still on NFL roster

Viewed this way 2011 was a very costly draft

Dareus is not that much worse than the guys you mentioned and he filled a huge need. Williams has been awesome since the move to safety. Sheppard was traded for Jerry Hughes. That's a net of 3 pro-bowl level players plus a solid starter in Searcy. If you look at teams' whole drafts instead of just picking out players that turned out to be better than people thought, I'd say we had one of the strongest drafts of 2011.

  4. If the starting LT of an NFL team is not playing it is not a private matter. (period)

He is a public figure that is paid millions of dollars to play a professional sport. If you miss (pre-season) games and practice it is not a private matter (period.)

If you do not want your medical history out in public then retire from the NFL.

This is this same delusion that people use to justify paparazzi invading privacy- "if you don't want cameras shoved up your skirt then don't become famous." Just stop. These people seem to think that when a person reaches some level of salary/fame, any and all personal information should be available to anyone who wants it. You have it backwards - if you need to know these people's most personal and private details just don't be a fan, no one is forcing you. Don't say that they should quit their jobs because they want a little privacy.

  5. It's all about EJ's development as a QB, Hackett's development as an OC, and Marrone's development as a HC.

    And then there's Danny Crossman.

This team does have talent. But for the Bills to emerge as playoff contenders, several folks need to become better than they've been.

    I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Yeah, while EJ certainly can make or break the season I think Hackett is the man to blame for last season's offensive struggles. With such high caliber RB's and solid line they should be able to be productive as long as the QB doesn't play as bad as Tuel did last year (that KC loss was his fault not Hack's). Since Hackett is so young it is reasonable to be hopeful that he'll improve. If he does and there isn't much of a drop off from Pettine to Schwartz, our Bills will easily be in playoff contention.

  6. I'm hoping they wait until the 3rd to address the O-line and take the best defensive player available in the 2nd. I just don't think there's that big of a drop-off from whatever tackle we would take in the 2nd compared to who'd be there in the 3rd. Also I think our defense is one or two quality starters away from being one of the best in the league and there are some ballers that are still available like: Tuitt, Attaochu, Crichton and Jean-Baptiste. It would definitely be worth that small drop-off in tackles to snag one of those guys.

  7. I was looking back at the drafts from the last few years and noticed that for 5 straight years now there has been at least one player drafted in the 2nd round that has become a star and would certainly go top 10 or so overall if the teams drafted again. For the last 4 years there's also been a star player to come out of the 3rd round as well.

    2009 - 2nd: Jairus Byrd & LeSean McCoy

    2010 - 2nd: Sean Lee, 3rd: Navorro Bowman

    2011 - 2nd: Colin Kaepernick, 3rd: Justin Houston

    2012 - 2nd: Lavonte David, 3rd: Russell Wilson

    2013 - 2nd: Kiko Alonso, 3rd: Tyrann Mathieu

I was wondering who everyone thought could be those guys in this year's draft and why.

    My predictions:

2nd - Kelvin Benjamin: Freakishly athletic, could have the highest ceiling of any WR in the draft. I would love for the Bills to take him in the 2nd if they can't get Mike Evans.

3rd - Daquan Jones: To be honest I don't know a whole lot about the draft prospects this far down but this dude is massive and has a great NFL star name.

  8. It seems like everyone pretty much agrees that there are only two legitimate needs: a RT and a big-play weapon for the passing game (either WR or TE). But from what I can tell, it seems like there's a pretty good chance of getting a long-term starter at RT in the 3rd round - OSU's Mewhort or the two guys from Tennessee for example.

So I say the plan should be to use one of the first two picks on the WR or TE and the other on the best defensive player available. In the 1st round that would be Watkins or Evans in the off chance one of them is there at #9 and if they aren't -either Aaron Donald, CJ Mosley or Eric Ebron. I'm personally not sold on Ebron but if Whaley, Marrone and company love him enough to take him 9th overall then I'd be all in.

I have two dream scenarios that I think are also pretty realistic, both having us take the best tackle available in the 3rd round. The first one would be Mike Evans falling to us at #9 then taking the best defensive player available in the 2nd (Crichton, Shazier, Roby, etc). I just love Mike Evans and I truly believe he's going to be a star. So getting him, a legit defensive starter and a starting right tackle would be a phenomenal draft.

My other (kind of realistic) dream scenario would be taking Aaron Donald in the 1st then either Seferian-Jenkins, Kelvin Benjamin, Cody Latimer or ideally Marqise Lee if he slides that far. We have two of the better DT's in the league so that's one of the least pressing needs but given the decent amount of depth all around, we can afford to try and turn our already very strong D-line into potentially the league's best.

  9. I agree with the logic about how trading for Watkins wouldn't be that big of a blow when you consider the strength of the upcoming UDFA class. But I think trading up for Mike Evans would be a much better move since we wouldn't have to give up as much, maybe not even a 2nd rounder if we're only trading up to #5 or #6. Plus Evans is exactly the type of player that we've been wanting for seemingly forever - a big, tall stud WR who's open even when he's covered.

The team could certainly use more depth at a lot of different positions but I'd say our only real "needs" are a big WR or TE and a RT. If we could grab legit day-1 starters at both those spots we could very well be heading to the playoffs, so if it takes trading away a few picks to get them I'm all for it.

  10. It's pretty obvious Richardson only won because he plays in the biggest market. Kiko was 3rd in tackles and 5th in total snap counts, playing every single snap in all 16 games for the 4th ranked defense (according to Football Outsiders). Oh well, this award doesn't really mean anything but Kiko clearly got robbed.

  11. Its gotta be either an LB or OT in the 1st, whichever one of those we don't take in the 2nd and WR, TE and S in some order from 3rd-5th. It is just amazing how many people on here are so sure that EJ will never be a "franchise" QB. I know it was early in the season but it seems like so many have forgotten how he lead the team down the field and won the game against the Panthers (the number 2 overall seed in the NFC). If he shows little or no improvement next year after the full offseason, team and staff continuity etc, then I would be all for looking QB in 2015. We've waited 14 years, we can certainly wait one more to see what EJ can do and pick up some studs at other positions along the way.

  12. Matt Schaub is a perfect example of how long you should stick with a QB. He looked decent with some potential then bam! 2013 comes around, he goes down in flames and now they have the #1 pick. Lets stick with EJ and if he really isn't good, eventually he'll blow up our season and we'll get the first pick haha.
