The question was whether I trusted him during 13 seconds.

I referenced 13 seconds as an example for the present. Who cares what a player  would do years ago? That has nothing to do with making a kick this year.

That is incorrect.  He was excellent during 2020-2022.  He holds the Bills scoring record.  Yes, he's fallen off a cliff and needs to go if we can find a better option.  No need to make ***** up.

    In 2022?  Abso*****in'lutely.

Nobody is saying in 2022, we’re talking now. I don’t care if he could make it then, I care about the present. He had a chance this past January, whiffed big time.

Bass isn't Butker. Butker is one of the best kickers in the league. No argument there.

Should the Bills look to every position in which they don't have an Allen, Butker, Gardner, Justin Jefferson? Absolutely.

Should they cut a guy who is not been very good mid season to replace him with somebody worse because they aren't Harrison Butker? No.

That’s not the point though. The point is….Bass is not at all likely to make that kick or a kick ten yards closer than that kick. I’m not saying if he’s as good as Butker. Everyone knows he’s not, hence this is even a topic

The point being, you need a kicker that won’t cost you a close game. And you need one that will

help you win a game, not make a coach think….Well, normally I’d kick here….But Bass struggles. Now it impacts play calling, etc.

His percentage on FGs that year was 87.5% (28/32) and 100% for XPAs (51/51) and 2 of his 4 missed FGs that season were in the colts game where nothing was going right and we got annihilated 41-15.

Butker that season was 89.3% (25/28) and 95.9% for XPAs (47-49).

So in reality yeah going by stats, he probably would have made it that season too if Butker did.

The constant berating him is probably not helping his confidence and we arent changing kickers so hold him accountable but maybe try building him up.

Right now, this season. What is he doing right now? Put Bass in that situation, this year, no way. Not likely to make it all.

Norwood at least made a Pro Bowl, when it was hard to make a Pro Bowl.

Yeah, but that one kick. Ya know, the one.

I didnt say it was good, but he can make kicks. You guys act like theres a 5% chance he will make a kick.

As compared to the other top kickers, sure he is less accurate, but we are talking 1-2 kicks over 6 games. The amount of angst the fans have over this is crazy.

Take 13 seconds for example. Do you believe Bass makes the kick that Butker made to send it to OT? Bass may have numbers that suggest he is able to make a kick, but zero confidence he’ll make a gotta have it kick. He’s destined to be Scott Norwood in the SB. They’re in a tough spot and probably stuck with him, for now. Hoping it finds his way, we need him too.

I could not believe they rushed only 2 on the Hail Mary play.  In the postgame Rodgers even said “ since they only rushed 2, we had all day to set it up.”    Why do they keep making these poor strategy decisions at the end of halves/games?!

It’s time McD applies the Costanza Opposite Logic.  Whatever is the first thing that comes to his mind, do the opposite.  You just know if he ever gets this team to the Super Bowl, he’ll do something stupid to lose the game.  I have not agreed with all the discussion about firing McD in the last few years, but I’ve just about lost all confidence in him and his partnership with Beane in putting a team together.

Even though some of the penalties called against the Bills were bad calls, they seemed out of control with the unsportsmanlike calls.  That’s discipline that’s supposed to come from the coaches, captains and veteran leaders that was lacking.

Fortunately the ghosts of Tom Sestak, Mike Stratton and others pushed those 2 Jets FG attempts to clang off the uprights and they won the game.

Division game, teams HATE each other (especially these two). I’m frustrated with the penalties (Brown and Dawkins), but I bet we don’t see that against most other teams.

If (big if lately), Bass makes his field goal and extra point, the Jets still lose 27-26 assuming Mike Stratton makes the two field goals. Gotta call that both ways.

To me the offense and defense looked “right”, with the exception of a few bad penalties and mental lapses on the personal fouls. Guys stepped up. For a normal Bills against Jets game, the offense was good (just gotta stop handcuffing themselves - Brown).

Why wouldn't we offer up a 2nd?  We have plenty of picks next year.

I'd hate to hear that we "just lost out" because we weren't quite aggressive enough.

Unfortunately we’ve been here before. Von Miller when traded to the Rams (Broncos) and Christian McCaffrey to the 49ers (Panthers). And I think they’ll go the same course. Obviously both made the SB and/or won it with said player. Buffalo will probably grab a defensive player nobody saw coming (Douglas last year).

Really? I've heard (and not sure his is precise) that he's only making about 2/3 of his kicks. Maybe that was just one or two bad days but he's worrying Joe Marino who has followed all of the camp days.

He’s missed one preseason “game” kick, he’s missed enough/others during practice to feel less than confident in his ability to make any needed kick.

  8. Tough to hear. I was fortunate enough to meet Coach D'Alessandris in Mobile immediately following a Senior Bowl game that then Bills coach, Chan Gailey, and his staff coached….Including Coach D.

We chatted for a while, he actually gave me his personal cell phone with an offer to take me and my boys on a tour of the Bills facilities/stadium.

We exchanged texts on a few occasions.

    Rest in peace, much prayer.

I wouldn’t call the first half of the season successful, by any means.

Playing for your playoff lives by week 11 is not good for a team with SB aspirations.

You could easily argue the Steelers game was a harbinger of things to come, which is why we were a .500 football for the first half of the season, had to fire our OC midseason, and couldn’t afford to lose a single game on our way to clinch the division/playoffs week 18.

I don’t think so (Steelers game being an indicator of things to come).

O Line and D Line looked bad in that game, the team looked disjointed, terrible.

Fast forward to the season, both were polar opposites (with a healthy Daquan Jones and Matt Milano). Also lost White on the boundary.

The mid season slide started with the mounting injuries. Guys like Dodson had to find their way, Poyer moved more into the box, etc.

  10. 21 minutes ago, FireChans said:

This is the last time I say this, but we started out the year .500 and fired our OC midseason.

And they finished the season as Division champs and had the SB champs on the ropes with a depleted defense in the playoffs.

They “started” the season 3-1 followed by a slide with critical injuries on defense.

    Right?

Just won the job. The media will have the narrative all teed up by the time we play the Chiefs: We passed on Mahomes, Humphrey, and Legette, got jumped for McDuffie, didn't know enough to keep the Punt God, and had to be content to sign their castoff, MVS.

Hopefully, that narrative will be dampened by a good year from Coleman and MVS, and a disappointing year from skinny Legette.

You mean Worthy. Legette is massive and plays on the Panthers.

I’m okay with fans or ex-players reading picks. It’s them getting up and making a damn speech or whatever that’s annoying. Just read the pick. I got stuff to do

The clock starts for the next draft pick once the team picking turns in their card. Whatever is said, speech, no speech, whatever, doesn’t add to or speed up the draft process. You’ll still get your stuff done as you see fit 🤪

While I don’t agree with the last sentence… it’s an all time risky trade.

if worthy pans out that we gave them mahomes and worthy is a blistering narrative - the type of which will be repeated a million times and define this era

if Josh gets hurt playing hero ball it really becomes something. Hopefully we land a couple pieces and feel better fast.

I have to assume they have like 3 guys graded similarly and are all good sliding til 1-2 get picked and I like that philosophy but if we are tied to kc getting a star it becomes not a little flub but something that changes this groups identity and that won’t be worth the picks to try to overcome

This. Having a history of “giving” Mahomes to KC, unable to beat them in the playoffs, makes KC a team you just don’t do business with. Doesn’t matter what draft grades you have, who you think they’ll take, whatever. You just don’t do it. Reid will scheme a Worthy special in the playoffs and we’ll hear it over and over.

I hate this. I don't necessarily hate that Brady got the job. But I hate that the team didn't even attempt to complete a full and exhaustive search. We're just running it back. McDermott loves playing it safe. It's what holds him back as a coach more than anything.

We don’t necessarily know if they did or didn’t. They may have reached out and were declined. We only know who they actually interviewed.

Seeing Brady took over in less than ideal circumstances, he put his offense in position to score big on the AFC Champions, and was consistent that way against many others, I’m excited about Brady getting a full offseason to get the Offense ready for next year.

He'll do well in FA. Much better than he'd do with the Bills offer. He is this year's Edmunds.

Good for him. I hope he goes and gets paid well somewhere else.

    Moving on.

Same here. He gave us some

good moments, also the tough ones. But I hope the best for him.

Like I've said in other threads. These were the last 3 plays once we got it down to the 28 yard line

    1st down - Cook 1 yard run

    *2 minute warning*

2nd down - incomplete to Shakir

3rd down - incomplete to nobody really

Not running the ball with Allen on any of those 3 plays was a mistake. You could have made for a shorter field goal while also taking time off the clock or forcing KC to use timeouts. You could have picked up a first down and drained the clock further. You could have made it a manageable 4th down. Whether it's Brady not calling a designed run or Allen just not taking off, I just don't understand not letting your best player make a play using his legs which the Chiefs hadn't stopped all game.

I agree with you. Bass still sucked this season.

  17. Should’ve been in four down mode, not going for the TD.

That said, Bass has been shaky all year. Zero confidence in him during “gotta have it” kicks. And that was BEFORE the playoffs.

After the playoffs, barring some undisclosed injury that impacted, I don’t see him making the much needed kicks.

Well .. take Brady out if the equation… who isn’t coming with Bill and I will say again … I dont want BB anywhere near Josh Allen

I DO NOT WANT BELICHICK. All I‘m saying is that anyone  pointing out his record without Brady is failing to acknowledge he would have Allen (which is far greater than any other QB he has had, aside from Brady). Belichick had NOT a single quality starter (please don’t say Bledsoe).
