  1. I want to thank you for using that first sentence in that disaster of a post you put up to blind everyone with.....

You obviously dont know anything about offensive line play.

Chris Hairston is a legit offensive tackle......it remains to be seen whether he is a dominant right tackle and a ok left tackle....or if he needs an NFL offseason to grow into being a dominant left tackle.

Go back and watch his play again (provided that you ever did to begin with).....immensely powerful.....delivers blows to defensive linemen instead of taking them.....commits when run blocking.....makes up for lack of extremely athletic feet with long arms that redirect and hold defensive players at arms length.......

I remember a particular play in the last game where they gave Hairston some help on a pass play....Hairston jolted the defensive player nearly knocking him on his ass almost immediately.....basically ending him for the play and the helper was looking at Hairston like "wtf am I doing over here you dont need my help"

Look I understand stacking the line is traditionally used against the run however maybe I should have been more specific, Hairston's back peddling technique to give Fitz a pocket to work from is bad.

I don't know what you saw, but against Miami he was being manhandled and caused the pocket to collapse very quickly. Why do you think Fitz was on his ass or running it off almost the entire game. He may have had a couple of plays that made him look successful at times but overall he, just like my previous post mentioned, looked a lot like Cordaro Howard who was cut for what I see as the same issues that Hairston is having. I do think that Howard would have been more successful at right guard, which seemed like a more natural position for him given his size, but we will never know.

Bell when healthy proved to be the better left tackle however I do billieve that players can improve especially when it comes to technique because Hairston certainly has the physical tools.

As far as me understanding football I have watched religiously since 1984 and have a good friend of mine that plays middle linebacker for the Rams, and I have talked to James about trench technique. I guess since it's easy to mouth off sitting behind a computer there will always be someone to do it, so whatever floats your boat. GO BILLS!!!

  2. Chris Hairston is awful at left tackle, his mechanics are no different than Cordaro Howard who we cut at the beginning of the season. I've watched the Bills play with the exact same dysfunction for over 10 years now. ALL the elite teams in the NFL have offensive lines that stack the defense at the line of scrimmage giving their quarterback time to examine the field and make the best possible decision in terms of how to get rid of the ball. This also allows for a stronger running game to develop. You cannot back peddle giving the defender the running momentum to either run you over or get around you. Our original lineup this year was much stronger and for the first time in years I saw a team that was physical and could stack the line. Bell is best suited at LT, and with Urbik, Pears, Levitre, and Wood at center that was the combination that gave Fitz the time to react and make sound decisions. That lineup could handle a blitz and that's why Fitz was the least sacked quarterback in the league.

The bottom line is we had horrible personnel that this new administration had inherited so it takes time to assess, dismantle, and make adjustments in a very short period of time. I believe that's why they drafted Spiller, they really didn't know there personnel and for everyone calling CJ a bust, it is paramount in this league that players get a real opportunity to learn and ultimately showcase there talents through ample playing time. I was under the impression that Chan was the type of coach that was able to utilize his talent by spreading his offense to maximize the talent he had. Unfortunately when he starting losing his key personnel which was supposed to be what the team was going to be building off of, he couldn't make the necessary adjustments needed to give Fitz the time he needed to make good decisions, however our lack of experienced depth has magnified the problem. Losing the key additions this team made in the during the season has set them back. Ryan will be an amazing quarterback when he has a sound, attack minded O-line that can stack the line.

Imo offenses should act as if they are the defense and be in attack mode. This should eliminate the blitz especially if Chan uses his tight ends, fullback and running back to shore up when the d brings the safeties.

It's tough to watch year in and year out when it's 3rd and 12 and we throw a pass to the line of scrimmage. Once again if we have a stout O-line we can change the defensive scheming in relationship to the opposing linebackers/secondary when we run.

So long story short, get everyone healthy for next year add depth through the draft and now that Buddy and co. have a clearer understanding of there strengths and weaknesses we should finally be headed in the right direction and be able to perform consistently.

Personally I would like to give the kid from Dallas (Young) that we picked up off there practice squad some looks. Spread the ball for crying out loud... play action, draws, run CJ to the outside to keep the defense honest and he will get better and this should also improve Freddy's performance . CHANDLER, CHANDLER, CHANDLER, come on already use him like Brady uses his Tight ends. I like Kumar Aiken, I like Roosevelt, and once Nelson hits his stride he's a gamer too.

Defense needs Kyle back and healthy, I hope Merriman's surgery solves his problem, athletes do come back from this sort of injury and do well, but if he doesn't we need a serious pass rusher.

Get rid of mcgee and Mckelvin and find corners that are ball hawks not guys that pride themselves on keeping up with receivers, what good is it that you keep up with the wideouts but you let them catch the ball, once again mechanics, who's teaching these guys anyways...Jeez.

Get a pass rush learn how to blitz bringing all the boys and not just some half ass attempt at trying to disrupt the quarterback.

Btw how many people are tired of watching these guys miss tackle.

Bottom line we need more depth and we need to stop being so damned predictable. I think during the Cincy game we needed a 1st down on three separate occasions and he ran Freddy up the middle all three times. FAIL, Chan seems to be stubborn and all of a sudden I'm seeing a man who isn't sensing the rhythm of the game. I love my BILLS but let's adjust.

One last note I heard Barnett say the difference when they were winning as opposed to now was a lack of passion. R u kidding me, heads hanging low??? you are multi millionaires playing in front of 70,000+ people week in and week out, living your dream. We are blue collar people and have more passion than you. I wish I was on the sideline for there games I would stoke a fire that would light up their asses. If I was on the sidelines they would never be sulking by themselves. During the Dallas game Fitz looked isolated as he was watching the jumbo tron. It's funny when were winning we are on the side lines as a family but when were down it appears that we sullen.

Another side note, ever notice when coaches are trying to instruct there players on the sidelines and they don't even give them the respect of looking them in the eye, if I'm on that field first time one of my players disrespects me like that it will be the last time. I'm the best at what I do in my profession and with the money that we pay them so should they. They owe us success. It's time to rise to the occasion and destroy. GO BILLS!!!

  4. Chan's play calling is very suspect at this stage in the game. If we need 15 yards were throwing to the line of scrimmage??? looks very similar to Jauron's offense, and Chan's inability to recognize his failures and keep trying to fit a square peg into a round hole is very frustrating. I'm starting to wonder about his abilities, but I'm not giving up on him cuz we still have personnel issues that need to be addressed time will tell.

  5. Fitz was getting almost zero help today, his line was breaking down, his receivers were dropping passes at crucial times, and our defense crushed all hope. I was in love with Chan's ability to maximize his talent and spread the ball around but he has become flat as an offensive play caller picking plays that do not coincide with the risk reward ratio. Our injuries are piling up and the lack of talent on our depth chart is beginning to show. This team needs to work really hard at reestablishing there strengths and get back to being creative. It does not look good right now but we as Bills fans are more than used to adversity. Let's see how we respond next week.

  6. Personally I am surprised at all the national attention we are getting. Usually good teams that come out of nowhere are disregarded as flukes until they put something significant together however the national media is taking this team seriously. I Billieve it's do to the fact that we are pretty solid in all phases of the ball, sure we've been suspect at times on defense but overall how can you not like what your seeing. This team FINALLY has a core group of players that we can build a team around. With this front office being very capable of determining talent it is going to be awesome to see what this team does in the next several years. I'm excited and I think the national media is too. GO BILLS!!!

  7. BTW how bad ass was George Wilson's comments after the game as he was interviewed by reporters. You talk about attitude, this team is really starting to possess what every championship caliber team has... an attitude that nobody is going to talk down or push this team around. It was awesome to see reporters kind of approaching there questions from a standpoint of concern or weakness and George just shut it down. This team acts like a family and we are on are way to becoming winners, from the top down. Ladies and Gentlemen we have our Buffalo Bills back and maybe this time we go all the way...GO BILLS!!!

  8. The difference is that this team is way better. First off this team came back from 21 down to beat the Patriots. This team has many different players and coaches, and has shown explosiveness on offense going back to last season. In 2008 I NEVER bought in.

Some here are too beaten down to recognize the difference between these Bills teams. They feel they have acquired wisdom that allows them to "keep things in perspective". I'm not impressed by guys that can look back in hindsight to proclaim "this is a good team" at the end of the year. Plenty of guys seemed to "know" that "Fitz isn't a franchise QB", "they are going nowhere with this O-line" etc, BEFORE the season started.. How about showing some foresight and some real insight into NFL football by going out on a limb and assessing the Bills future?

I'm willing to wager that these Bills will win 10 games, any takers?

    AMEN BROTHER

  9. Four games and he has been basically invisable in all of them. This guy was a beast for the first two preseason games and now he is as fragile and unproductive as his last three years. As far as I'm concerned he has yet to earn a dime of his recent contract signing. If he has to be treated like a pansy all year for fear he is going to hurt himself then get him off the field. Football is not for pansies. What happened to all the hype about "I'm back". Watch out for "Lights out". Well as far as I'm concerned his light is as dim as ever. Perhaps somebody should light something under his candyass to get him going. Zero tackles today and no sacks in one of the biggest games of the regular season. Give me a break!!!!

Sorry to vent but we need this guy to perform. Believe me I'm as excited as can be about our start but we have 13 more games and I'm very concerned that this team will collapse unless we start putting some pressure on the Quarterback. I remember the 5-1 start in 2008 and we ended up 7-9. Without Brady's four thrown picks, the Bills get blown out today.

If I hear one more person compare this team to the team we had in 2008 I'm going to puke. This team is completely different in ALL phases, most importantly coaching, talent, and facing teams that are actually going to finish stronger than 8-8. This IS a new era, BILLIEVE IT!!!

  10. mods please close this down! All of this is being discussed in other threads. So sick of it. He is gone, and if he came back next year he would be a number three. He ran poor routs and Stevie was a better deep threat last year. He was a great guy and team mate and I think he will help Baltimore, but rehashing rehashed garbage is not interesting.

AGREED... everyone needs to get over Lee being traded, he was a fine player for a little while but we have moved on. What, with Lee we would have scored 48 points last week? jeez, give it up already. This is a new team with a new look and a new direction, it's about time, GO BILLS!!!

  11. So the "experts" spend a week saying that KC will "crush" the Bills.

The Bills stomp the Chiefs and now we get "KC isn't really that good and has a bad OL"

Nobody likes to look foolish and most in the media can't stand to be wrong so they put a good spin on whatever has them on the hot seat.

  12. For the past few years, especially under Dickie J, in the rare occasion the Bills got out to a double digit lead, they would take their collective foot off the gas and go into protect-the-lead mode. They'd play their base cover 2 defense and rush four every play. On offense, it was the typical run-run-incompletion-punt sequence. Inevitably, the other team would get back into it, the Bills couldn't get going again, and they'd lose a close one.

Yesterday at KC, the Bills did something I have been waiting years to see... they showed a killer instinct. When they had the chefs down, they didn't let up and try to protect the lead... they put their collective foot on the chefs collective throat and applied steadily increasing pressure until they choked them out.

That is what good, winning teams do.

BOOM... ENCOURAGEMENT- couldn't agree more, I loved the killer instinct

  13. Honestly, I don't think anyone expected what happened today to happen. Yes, we all hoped, but there is no way you can think that a team that is supposedly "rebuilding" and has a QB who has never started an opening day in his career will come out and blow out a team that many were/are considering to be playoff contenders. Also, for a team that hasn't had much in the tight end position in the past long while to come out and have 2 passing TD's with a TE... That's not something I think anyone was expecting to happen.

    Go Bills!!!

You can surmise the Bills coming along if you payed close attention. That's where the Buffalo media fails, there are many variables that determine a teams success and if you paid attention to last year and what we did in terms off upgrading our personnel this year you could see that this team just needed a few changes to make this team viable. For example everybody complained about our O line when really Fitz in comparison to Edwards and Losman wasn't running for his life last year, the O line actually began to hold up for him. He also showed that he had pocket presence and he put up points in a 1st year system while not even starting the season until week 3. Give him a better defense last year and the 7 out of 12 games we lost by 10 or less points goes the other way. Team chemistry and attitude play into the variables in which I'm talking about as well. For the 1st time in a LONG time this team actually began to show an identity. Our media simply gave up on this team right before the miracle. I guess middle of the road reporting doesn't sell so instead of adopting the wait and see approach as they should have before the season started they bashed this team and it's ownership and ultimately it's making them look foolish and complacent. But I will say this it's giving everybody a lot to talk about, gotta love controversy, GO BILLS!!!

I agree PTR. I was at 2 training days and saw much of what we saw today. Of course there were bad things (sometmes more than good) but I at least saw some decent progression from a year ago. I saw lots of improvement from positions that were completely overlooked most of the time. I'm by no means saying I foresaw a bomb drop in KC today by the Bills but I can say I saw alot of good things we have done for a few weeks now. We all saw the preseason games where we had decent run D and decent pass rush. We saw a game where Fitz was magic. There was much more to say about THIS team and not the past 10 years teams than has been reported. The fact is Mike Scrote, Balllick, and Sulky don't know anything. They do not write or state thier OWN opinions for themselves. They are just like any national media outlet that forgets Buffalo even has a team, or in WGRs case they are butthurt they aren't even allowed to cover anymore and that's why they don't care. The fact is they don't know what they are doing, they don't have any inside people, they don't care because the Bills are not what's been making them money. It's the ball licking of the Sabres that has made thier paychecks for the last few years and they don't know how react so they just continue to say the same crap they have in the past 10 years. WGR is still bringing things up from when Wade and Donahoe were here. I don't expect them to ever get it. I do expect them to jump on the bandwagon after they win a few games though because that's thier deal. Just ride what people are saying and pretend like they know what everyone is talking about. I expect a routing of the Raiders this week and WGR saying if they beat the Pats they will be on board. If they beat the Pats they will not only be on board, they will be heading up the bandwagon. Saying they knew all along. Calling for home field advantage in playoffs. Making tailgate plans for playoff games. Saying Fitz needs a longterm deal and saying he will be in running for MVP. Saying all the WRs are so good and we never needed Evans. It's a joke we have to deal with these @ssclowns.

    AGREED

  14. He says he's OK - someone fell on it during a tackle.

Speaking of which, I do disagree with the pundits who say "not a factor". True, he didn't rack up any flashy plays - no sacks, only one tackle.

But every play I saw he was taking up bodies, sometimes 2 or 3 bodies, to the point where Edwards and Kelsey were able to have the most active day.

So give it time - when other teams figure out that they can't just account for "lights out" or the rest of the Bills will romp around the backfield, if he can stay healthy, he'll have his day.

I also thought Batten looked right at home out there.

I saw the same thing, he was double covered consistently and that's a big part of his job. If everybody is good up front it becomes impossible for O lines to double cover everyone so I'd say we are on are way. GO BILLS!!!

  15. The Pats are going to destroy us.

The other games are toss ups

Destroy? That's a strong prediction for a team that just exploded out of the gate. Our match up with the Pats will be the measuring stick for us, for sure, so we'll see. It is going to be interesting to watch the Pats/Dolphins game tonight, I want to see this hype machine in action.

  16. Trading him was still a financial decision.

Nothing wrong with that as long as it was a good football move and I'm pretty sure the coaching staff and front office agreed that it was, besides the way they spread the offense without Easley and also using Parrish in a limited role I'd say Evans doesn't look like he is going to be missed. IMHO.

  17. To be fair, I think this game could go either way. The chiefs have one of the best running games in the NFL and last year we struggled to stop the run. based on our moves we should be better at stopping the run and in the third preseason game we looked like we were capable, but it was preseason.

I think the offense gets better with expierence but they have a few guys that can make plays for them. Eric berry is VERY good

Honestly i think this game comes down to who has the better QB play. Call me a homer but Fitz looked great in preseason and Cassel struggled, I say Bills win a close one 17-10

I think your right on the money with that score or at least very close. I can't freakin' wait for Sunday. GO BILLS!!!

  18. I can see the temptation to compare our Bills of now to Bills teams of the past, especially the high standard of the early 90's. IMO, though, the Bills of now are not like any Bills team I remember. I only remember the Bills as far back as 87-88, though. The Bills that I first watched were winners. They not only had confidence, but arrogance. They were sound in just about every respect - and their coaching was top notch, too. Their talent was high, and Buffalo was the team that every team in the AFC had to go through to get to the top. That was so good.

Then, the team of the Flutie years, with the excellent defense. That was a team that was one sided, but was still a team that had a reputation, a legacy, sort of, although it was changing, maybe starting to get left behind by other systems and franchises - I think that image really captured them, that of an old Champion, still very tough, still good at some things - dangerous, but his time is short, and he's hanging on. We could have won that SuperBowl that the Rams ended up winning - our defense was good enough. Could have.

And then you have the ineptitude all around of a team that, by all appearances, was (through the fault of ownership) satisfied with having been great, and since it had achieved greatness for so long had become used to greatness, had gotten to the point where it took excellence for granted - it was assumed that the Bills would be good. And, it was assumed that being good was the Bills, i.e, that the Bills didn't have to change to return to greatness. Ralph assumed that having been there as he was he knew how to do it and if it wasn't working at the moment (the whole of the 2000's) then it wasn't because he was doing it wrong, but because he didn't have the right people below him.

Frankly, his model was outdated and he didn't seem to care too much about putting into the team the kind of effort that is normally associated with youth - eagerness, willingness to try new things, the desire to out-do others, in short, he was too old to compete anymore, and his team reflected that out-datedness.

And now we have a team - that when I look at it, I don't see a team of old. I see a mystery. I want to know what this team is all about. I want to know if the defense is going to play with attitufe. Are we going to go out and stuff people, and hit hard, and become a team that I can easily envision being talked of as "that nasty Bills Defense" - you know, a unit with identity. Are we going to be able to move the ball consistently? I watched Aaron Rodgers make passes last night of the twenty yard variety on 3rd and 12 or so and the Packers made those plays look easy - and those plays should be easy! This is the NFL - these guys are the best in the world. Twenty yards isn't that far! Fitz should be able to hit a playing card from twenty yards.

Let this year be the year we find out who these Bills are under Nix and Gailey. I suspect we'll get a better look of who and what the defense is going to be, and we'll have to wait until next year to really see Gailey's best work on offense.

Very well said, however I will say this, something happened last year when I watched this team, despite their losing record I noticed that this team started to create an identity. For the 1st time in a very long time I felt this organization FINALLY was building a solid foundation for the future and my feelings I'm sure will be backed up by what I feel were solid personnel moves to really shore up what there biggest problem was last year, their D. I like the additions of Merriman, Barnett, and Morrison and with the kind of guys we have with our front 3 in Williams, Dareus and Edwards there seems to be a nice blend of veteran leadership and hungry new blood. Of course we'll see if it translates on the field but after looking at these guys in camp and in preseason it appears we FINALLY have an exceptional defense with descent depth. Baby steps, GO BILLS!!!

  19. They are horrific as journalists. As entertainers, they are much worse. I like to listen to sports talk when I drive, so I hold my nose and listen. I must say, the stench is growing out of control. BTW... what is the deal with that station and Lee Evans. To hear them tell it, The Bills just traded Jerry Rice for a roll of ankle tape. Evans was a stand up guy, but let's face it, he is not much of a receiver by 2011 NFL standards. Results are what matter in the NFL and his are not the stuff to build around. Good grief, let it go guys....

You took the words right out of my mouth, they consistently B word about about this team and Ralph Wilson's commitment to putting together a winning product yet they spent most of the time praising our new defensive personnel based on what they saw at training camp and in preseason. Really the ONLY thing they complained about was the release of Evans, the O Line and Hangartner. Sure the O Line is suspect but why are people so hung up on the OL, that wasn't are main problem last year the defense was and NIX/GAILEY addressed the D in a BIG way this off season. Sure if we get injured our lack of depth is going to hurt us but you have to start rebuilding by replacing and revamping your 1st teamers before you can add depth, which is what has been done. How much did they expect was going to get done with one off season? This team has been built so poorly over the last 10 years (through severe mismanagement and bad ideas)that it is going to take time to rebuild.

How can these guys deny that this unit is better than last years unit. Everyone of the WGR guys make me sick with there lack of insight and their contradictions. You can't say out of the one side of your mouth that this team shows no commitment to win and then out of the other side of your mouth praise the changes that have been made that are positive. At least acknowledge that there has been an effort on this team's part to get better and if all you can complain about is Evans and Hangartner you better rethink how much knowledge you have when it comes to critiquing this game. NIX/GAILEY are smarter football people than most think and they absolutely know what they are doing. This team now has a nice blend of veteran leadership and hungry new blood, this team is going to shock a lot of people this year and I for one can't wait to hear the WGR guys back peddle and squirm. GO BILLS!!!

  20. "I don't want to be a little bit better. I want to be tons better. I'm talkin' about 30 spots better. I'm talking about a lot better. That's what I expect. That's what I want."

What??? that's way to bold for Bills fans, he can't say that. That's almost as crazy as saying that you would like to go undefeated for the year. Why would any athlete want to be better or even perfect. Uh actually, wait a minute... that's how real competitor's are supposed to feel. My bad...

Schopp, Bulldog and Jerry Sullivan are miserable goofs who have a God complex. Just because they have a platform to speak and can dump any caller who disagrees with them doesn't mean they no ****

about football. Don't give up before the miracle is about to happen.... GO BILLS!!!
