  1. Just focusing on the top of the draft:

2007 - Anthony Gonzalez, WR, RD1; Tony Ugoh, OT, RD2

2008 - traded away first round pick to 49ers.

    2009 - Donald Brown, RB, RD1

    2010 - Jerry Hughes, DE, RD1

All of these players are underperformers. Gonzalez is injury-prone and has been passed on the depth chart by Collie and Garcon. Ugho was drafted as the LT of the future and was released this year. Donald Brown was a total waste of a pick and has been supplanted on the depth chart by Mike Hart. Jerry Hughes is having a rookie year much like Maybin's 2009 - he is weak at the POA and cannot get on the field (and when he does, he isn't making a difference).

Just saying, with all of the Polian talk around here, it's worth bearing in mind that he has his share of misses. Perhaps having the best QB ever to play the game can make up for lots of bad personnel decisions.

What a BLEEP you are. I don't like to go out and call people names, but come on man. Really? The guy builds winning teams. Not everyone is gonna be a sure pick. But as others have already posted, look at what he finds in the later rounds. He finds solid players for his team to be competitive. And seriously when was the last time the Colts didn't make it to the playoffs????? I'd take Bill Polian back in a heartbeat.

  2. Yeah Fitz has been a pleasant surprise. It makes it easier as we go into the 2011 draft not to have to worry about drafting a QB, unless the one we want is there for us to take. I personally would wait to get Andrew Luck if I am GM of the Bills. And if the team's not in that position, then I look at solidifying the lines. The Battles are won in the trenches!!!!!

  3. Let's wait before we start celebrating here. First off. The Bills had 2 weeks to prepare for the Ravens. Lets see how we do against a weaker opponent in the Chiefs. 300 Yards against the Chiefs should be a cake walk for Fitz. If we go there and take it to them on offense, this is a the start of a good trend. But there are 10 more games people. Hold your horses before you start thinking we've turned the corner. If we play out the rest of the year like we did against the Ravens. We might very well be better than advertised.

  4. Ok, obviously I was wrong too about Fitzy crashing and burning against the Ravens. It was refreshing to see the Bills actually compete for once. It actually looked like should I dare say it. An NFL OFFENSE. I can only hope that they continue to play at the same level through the rest of the season. Here's hoping. So we can concentrate on rebuilding the defense to fit the 3-4.

Wouldn't have been great to have Julius Peppers and Carlos Dansby yesterday?????

  5. I will give TD credit for that he did try to bring in big name FA- of course he couldn't pick a head coach worth a damn.

With Polian it was a magical time, headed by a QB he didn't draft. Polian did a crappy job of drafting over all the early rounds were brutal but they did hit a few late rounders

Agreed. Wish TD would have got Fox or Lewis as the HC. Cut Johnson and kept Flutie and have kept Pat Williams and Winfield. Wonder how that would have worked out...

  6. Inaction in the offseason and bad drafting. Everyone else has gotten better. We have not. You're switching 4-3 to 3-4. They didn't purge of the old 4-3 players and bring in 3-4 players. We didn't go after big time free agents (I don't care if they have to break the bank) It's not our money. Get Dansby, Get Julius Peppers here. It's all about bad talent evaluation by this current coaching staff. Yes they inherited it. But their inaction this offseason has killed it even more. And Yes Perry Fewell is prob the best coach we had here in a decade. I wish we did keep him.

  7. and they thought is was bad to miss the playoffs on the last week (Bledsoe). At least the Bills were competitive with DJ & Marv. Those teams just needed a few more players, a little more luck. I always felt like they had some chance each week.

This team this has a feeling of doom, poor schemed defenses with no clue.

WORST OF ALL, NO ACTION OR EFFORT BY THE GM OR FRONT OFFICE, just a bunch of PR "spin", rebuilding.... rebuilding what??? Not with these people drafting or not signing free agents

Donahoe was actually good. Atleast he got Proven Free Agents in here. Ex Flectcher, Bledsoe, Spikes. Unfortunately he let proven players on the team walk ala Pat Williams and Antoine Winfield. At Least he tried. Buddy Nix rather be sleeping come Free Agency.

  8. So Buddy Nix is too old to compete, but you would bring in Parcells, who is only two years younger and way more likely to flake out and move on to something else as soon as the opportunity presents itself?

Your argument is a moot point. I was using Bill Parcells as an example of his output vs. Buddy Nix's. Parcells turns teams around. Regardless if he shows up for 1 year or 2 years or whatever. And Yes everyone would love to have him here. Everyone knows its not gonna happen. My point is What has Nix done for this team to make it better? Nothing. His inaction has made this team worse. We should have went out and signed as many of the top tier Free Agents as possible to get this team right. Unfortunately there is no commitment by Buddy or the owner to do so. So we sit here and watch this team go 0-16. And we're told by the owner he'll be dead before the team is good.

  9. Buddy Nix came in with a bad front 7, bad offensive tackles and bad QBs. He didn't address any of these problems. There is no plan other that to sell fans on the fantasy that there is a plan.

Wow, logic again prevails on this board. Some people actually get it. Buddy Nix Rather be sleeping on the first night of Free Agency (You know, when all the good players are just sitting there waiting to get a call) than actually going out and signing players we need to be a good ball team. Talk about inept. This guy is waaaay in over his head. The only reason this guy is here in this postion is because Ralph knew who he was. This guy doesn't got a clue how to GM a professional ball club. You think Bill Parcells is gonna go to sleep on first night of free agency if he inherited this mess? Come on. That right there told me alot about Buddy Nix. He can't bring a winner to Buffalo folks. He's too old to compete in this league. We're so screwed it's not even funny. It's actually a sick joke.

  10. If Shanny were here now we'd be 0 and 5. We have bad players from years of miserable drafts. What's so hard to understand about all of this. It's going to take time to turn it around. I don't care who the HC is, we were going to suck this year.

Wow you make absolute sense. Why can't everyone else on this board see the light? LOL

  11. Why are you stunned that the team got worse? The OL, tackle positions, weren't upgraded. The qb position wasn't upgraded. The TE continues to make no contribution to the offense. The team went to a 3-4 scheme without having players suited for that scheme. The LB corps is one of the worst units in the league. Our special teams have gotten worse. I wasn't a fan of TO but his departure certainly didn't improve the potency of the offense.

When John Clayton was asked on WGR if he was surprised that the Bills were ranked as the worst team in the NFL his response was no. He stated that he picked them to be the worst team in the NFL prior to the season. Almost every credible NFL analyst PRIOR to the season ranked the Bills being 29-32.

The Bills didn't do anything consequential to upgrade the team this offseason. They were bad last season. So what did you expect? Not only didn't the Bills improve but the teams within the division got better. This offseason the Bills slid further back.

I remember when Marshall Faulk on a NFL TV show laughed when asked about the Bills. A lot of people on this board skewered him. He was absolutely right.

You and a lot of other fans got caught up with the standard company PR sham. Success in the NFL is about talent on the team. When your team is talentless the outcome should come as no surprise, at least to those people who are not drinking the Kool-Aid. When judging this embarrassing organization don't buy into the hollow words, instead, intensely observe what they do on the personnel side.

I don't know how you could say it any better than that. Until we get new ownership who wants to bring a championship to Buffalo, A New young inventive GM who knows how to build such a team, The Bills will be Team FAIL for the long haul.

  12. ...as a true contender to the QB we've all been searching for since Kelly left the stage. When you look at his stats over his last five starts (last two games in '09 and the first three in '10) you come to realize that these are not the stats of a backup player. Extrapolated over a 16 game season, these are the numbers of a top tier NFL QB. So what is there to get excited about this year? How about the prospect of Bills fans finding out their franchise QB is already here. This is not a prediction that he will be that, just that Bills fans need to see the very good work he's been doing and the prospect that he just might continue to do so...

    Fitzpatrick's last 5 starts...

    11 TDs / 3 interceptions

Average TDs per game - 2.2 (35 TDs in a 16 game season)

Average yards per game - 185.6 (2969 yards in a 16 game season)

    Average QB rating - 100.66

As a comparison, here are Jim Kelly's 1990 Superbowl season stats (14 games)

    Total TDs - 24

    Total yards - 2829

    Yards per game - 202.1

    Rating - 101.2

    Cue the haters...

That's awesome those stats. But he should keep the bench warm. That's where Fitzy belongs man!
