I'm surprised that was your take here. The point is the Chiefs have invested at a high level in the WR position, as most would like to see us do. It hasn't worked, to the extent that our lack of investment has shown better returns. Which might be part of why we choose not to invest, as Beane has called out it being a high miss position. We seem more content with depth here, making sure the floor is high, and that Allen has baseline targets that can be functional. KC is swinging for the fences, largely missing. We have emulated them in so many ways, but not this one. Which seems to get the most criticism, but when you look closer, even for a critic like myself, it hasn't gone very well for them.

Considering how low they pick you can basically dock them a round, so it’s really like a 2nd and two 3rds over 5 years. My main point is that you need to get lucky later on. Which we agree on and I think is your main point. I’m more so saying I don’t really credit Bean for this, it’s not like he made alternative investments that worked great! Another note is they basically take fast guys and Andy will figure the rest out later. We don’t do that. Not sure who is right there but Andy seems to have done well!

Also, not sure our WRs have been better over the course of the 5 years, and I’m not sure they’re better this year if the Chiefs are fully healthy (although they might be).

Kelsey is old also they’re a year late on replacing him. This is a big part of their issues. With that new TE we have that caught that TD I’d fleece them for a desperation 1st RD for a Knox in they would do it! (They would not, I know)

  2. Strange argument. Chiefs use higher picks on WRs and miss, but we smartly use lower picks to somehow have a higher probability of getting average guys? This doesn’t make sense.

A big part of it is that we both pick late so we can’t really get a top guy they always go quick. Also, we had Diggs. If they had not lost Hill they’d have taken WRs later.

The real story here is just that it’s tough to win the NFL. Dick Juron was right.

Ya but jets gifted them how many points with dumb penalties on 3rd downs?

    1st drive was a roughing the passer on a 3rd and 19.

That is a 4-7 point penalty alone, depending if Prater makes the long kick

That they did. The Jets are horrible

  4. It’s about putting games away early and managing game flow better. I’d love to see us start fast, force teams to throw, and let our blitz loose. A few bad bounces could bite us otherwise. It seems obvious that we are capable of this, also. Again—not about today we obviously wanted to run against them, could, and it took their pass rush away.

  5. We’re scoring points, so I can’t complain too much—but doesn’t it feel like we have a lot of predictable 2nd-down runs that go nowhere and start slow? Came back strong vs. the Ravens, but it’d be nice to open things up earlier. Against the Jets it didn’t matter, but I’m still waiting to see more schemed explosive plays in the passing game, especially early. Similar issues as last year. What do you guys think?

    That's patently false.

Even with missing 4 games due to injury, he was 8th in rookie WR receiving yards, tied for 8th with two others in TDs.

And he measured 6'3" and 213 lb at the combine.

so he’s the 8th best rookie in a given year while starting for the Josh Allen

ps: we really don’t need to argue both McD and Bean trashed his first season openly this off season … it was not good

  7. Keon still has an uphill battle he’s not quick, fast, or even that big. Good game but let’s not crown this guy just yet. Last year was not a good rookie year, even by rookie standards. Not exactly trying to get hyped over the next Gabe Davis

  8. I criticize McDermott like everyone else but building that locker room, while not all on him, doesn’t happen without him. Doesn’t happen without winning either, which is mostly to do with Josh, but my point is let’s give credit where credit is due. McDermott has built a locker room of guys that buy in, listen to him and respect him, play hard and play to win as a team. That’s not a bad coach we have right there.

May not be the absolute best on the white board and maybe threw a few goofy red flags and made some mistakes along the way but all in all that’s a guy that will keep us with a pretty damn high floor year in and year out. Happy to have him. He’ll keep us knocking on that door and probably get us a ring one day before Josh retires. Probably a few better coaches out there, but not that many.

Ok so to summarize the events of the day:

-Tre gets "carted off" except he walked part way and it doesn't sound serious.

-stark reminder that even if White heals up and starts week one, CB2 is shaky until one of the young guys steps up and solidifies it.

-something, something Asante Samuel and Rasual Douglas. whatever.

Tre didn’t walk on the leg. Without Tre we need another player. Perhaps for many many weeks to start the season. Something something Rasul

Kind of how I think, also.  Mediocre quarterbacks and poor quarterbacks will usually make those mistakes before driving their teams down the field.  The better quarterbacks, for the most part, will be happy to drive down the field with easy completions for fourteen play drives resulting in touchdowns, if that is what you give them.

It is worth giving up some quick big plays to the opposition if the defense can impose their will and force the opposition out of their comfort zone more often than not.

Whatever the scheme it won’t work with these guys. If everything is perfect and healthy we have a roster that can hang in there. If anyone gets hurt at almost any level it starts to get damn rough real quick.

spoiler alert: they’re going to get hurt

LOL, Losman's only piece of his repertoire that was above-average was a bomb. He definitely let it rip more than Peterman.

Edwards was a victim of the "play not to lose" mentality of Jauron. I know the popular opinion was that his concussion in Arizona ruined him, but he won a big game the next week against a good San Diego team.

Peterman was a gamer I will always respect the guy. He balled when he wasn’t throwing multiple picks, but hey those picks didn’t stop him from throwing more picks! Not even after literally being historically bad in the 5 picks in the 1st half game! He’s the only QB on that list I felt like really tried to be the guy—he just wasn’t the guy. For the record, I think Josh did the exact same thing and just so happened to be the guy (and learn from picks).
