  1. Bradford is a fine QB if the Bills are looking to bridge.

If you truly think they are going to trade up to the top 5 to take a quarterback, you'd better believe that quarterback is going to start EXTREMELY sooner rather than later.  There just isn't the concept of "developing" a quarterback anymore.  You either have it or you don't, and playing the game is the best way to get better at it.

  2. And still the broadcast attempts to paint Patricia as a genius as the slob's defense makes Alex Smith look like Joe Montana.

Gilmore, Hogan and Gilislee all looked bad.

Apperently that plan to remake their team in the image of the Bills is going as expected.

  3. Caught a bad break that the guy destroyed his knee after we took him. If he had blown his knee out beforehand, he wouldn't have been a 4th round pick in that year's draft.

Damaged goods, poor fit, team finally looking to BUILD instead of playing for an outside shot at losing an away wild card game.

    Fine trade.

As others have noted, nothing truly matters until the Bills deploy their resources to secure a top 10 caliber quarterback. Otherwise, you're battling for the wild card chump round and spinning your wheels in the middle of the pack.

  4. B. The key to the Bills being better is trusting the process and given that over the last decade and a half plus shows that the ownership has been insufficient to run a process which can win.

That last decade and a half with ownership eh?

Weird how in every other sport non-contending/rebuilding teams trade their players under expiring contracts as rentals to acquire other assets, but Because Buffalo, yada yada 4 Super Bowl losses yada Ralph is cheap.

  5. And now we're getting people saying that we should be planning on using the franchise tag on this guy. Ya'll realize that the franchise tag is going to cost something in the neighborhood of 16 or 17 million dollars next year, right? Paying a guy who has never had a year in the top 10 of any meaningful statistical category on a run-first offense $17m. Yeah, that's how a savvy front office really should operate. Fire these guys ASAP.

  6. If the Bills put together a good season, Sammy had a good year and the Bills offered him a good contract, why wouldn't he come back?

See my post in the King thread.

THE SAME EXACT things were said about Dareus.

Since it was mentioned, these are some of the reasons why I believe that he wouldn't come back:

Well, to me, the most cited reasons why a free agent receiver chooses a particular franchise to sign with include:

    Largest $ offered

    Best/most established QB

Play for a perennial playoff/Super Bowl contender

Offensive scheme (run vs. pass ratio)

Size of advertising market for endorsement offers

    Climate/amenities

    Proximity to home town

    State income tax rate

How do you project Buffalo would have stacked up against the other 31 franchises?

  7. How about we bet he has more then the 7 he averaged in 3 years as a Bill. $5,000 Okay????

Figure of speech. He'll be utilized much more then he was in Buffalo where his talent was wasted.

Ok, so you don't think he'll get targeted 12 times per game. I suppose that is my mistake for assuming that by saying that he'd get 12 targets per game in LA, that you thought he'd actually get 12 targets per game.

I actually think that 7 targets per game expanded out to 112 is still a winning bet for the under, as the Rams #1 receiver last year had only 111 targets, and Sammy Watkins does not project to play an entire 16 game season. But, on that I am not willing to bet $5000.

  8. Depends.

If the team had a solid year, he had a good year and they offered him a good contract, no question I think he would've resigned.

    Why wouldn't he?

  9. Odell, Julio & Antonio all have 10 targets/wk. Watkins 7, as receivers on average catch .667 of targets that will have him at 80 receptions. I see that as legitimate.

So you accept the wager? You're betting that Sammy Watkins receives 12 targets x 16 games = 192 or more in the 2017-2018 NFL season. I'm betting that he'll receive 191 targets or fewer in the 2017-2018 NFL season. How much action (up to my limit of $5000) are you looking to take?

  10. I have zero disrespect for his injury history. Injuries are part of the game, and I'm sure the ribs hurt real bad and it hurt real bad to walk on the broken foot. I hope everything has/is healing nicely, and that he'll stay healthy for the rest of his career.

But you're kidding yourself if his injury history isn't relevant to the decision to acquire assets for a player who was 16 games (if the foot holds up) away from walking out the door and leaving the little people of Buffalo and their little jobs behind him with nothing to show for it other than a stack of foot x-rays.

To stay on topic: Trading a player with injury question marks for another player with superior stats, albeit perhaps a lower talent ceiling isn't really "blowing up the team".

    Matthews - 225 Receptions, 2673 Yards, 19 Touchdowns.

    Watkins - 153 Receptions, 2459 Yards, 17 Touchdowns.

Watkins played with Tyrod Taylor and Kyle Orton. Matthews with Carson Wentz, Mark Sanchez, and Sam Bradford. Seems fairly comparable to me.

    TEAM CONFIRMED EXPLODED.

"I love Buffalo," Watkins told the team's official site. "They drafted me first round, fourth pick. My job is to stay here for a while. That's the goal. You don't want to change teams. My job is to stay around here forever. That's the goal."

    Cue the "he's lieing!" Retorts.

    ScottLaw,

Do you truly believe that when Sammy Watkins hit free agency after this season that he would have chosen to sign with Buffalo over any of the other 31 NFL franchises?
