  1. How can you justify paying Jackson 10 mil or so a year for a WR that is 29 years old, never had over 70 Receptions in a season and has only been over 1000 yards 3 times in his career? He is about to be 30 years old. This would be a terrible deal for Buffalo in that San Diego had Phillip Rivers throwing to Jackson throughout his career, we have Fitz. I believe 10 million a year could be spent better between 2 or 3 younger players (including a WR).

I guess I can see ur point. However, remember that on the Bills passing attack, all we have is stevie. If Fitz had an alternate option as good as Antonio Gates, stevie wouldnt have as good a numbers either. Again I totally see where ur coming from, But i think in this case looking soley at #s doesnt paint the whole picture. V Jax would be an excellent addition to our Bills, and an excellent compliment to Stevie IMO.

  2. All I hear is class envy.

    1) Good point they did screw over young 18 year old men that chose not to go to college. I guess it's ok to go from high school to McDonalds but not high school to the NBA. What the hell kind of sense does that make???? Again, not in the American capitalist spirit.

    2) Playing college football is not a luxury. It's a job and a business. Perform or lose your job/position on the team. Lose your job/position on the team lose your paycheck/scholarship. The boss makes money off of your efforts at work(on the field) YEP! Sounds like a job to me.

Scouts and recruiters literally scour the country trying to persuade that hot high school prospect to come to their college. For the luxury? No my friend! To win games on Saturday and bring fortune and fame to the college. Don't forget for a second that that is what college football is about.

    3) SOOooo basically you are saying that the company has a vested interest in providing their employees with the best management and training to maximize success and profits? I think that's what I'm hearing right? What kind of Bizzaro world do you live in where a college program would benefit from inferior equipment, training and coaching? It benefits all parties and in particular the university. Most of these players never go on to play at any professional level so the long term benefits of this training and coaching only applies to a select few as far as the football field goes.

1.) Who "screwed them over"? The NBA owners AND players union? The people who stand to make the most $$ off the players is the NBA owners...So who again actually screwed them over? Maybe The owners AND players union thought it was a good idea to let the players develop a bit...gain experience. There are many many jobs in america that an 18 year old right out of high school is unqualified for, and would never get. The NBA is one of them.

2.) College football is a choice. You know when you pick an NCAA school that you will not be paid more than tuition, as well as the rules regarding selling your merchandise etc. No one forces you to do this, if you dont want to you dont have to. I deserve to get paid more than 40k/yr at my job, and I know this every day I walk into the doors, yet I choose to work there anyways cause there aint a better gig in town. Sucks, but hey, thats a capitalist society.

The reason they dont get paid is because where would it end? Does someone on the womens lacrosse team, which makes no money for the school at all, deserve to get paid as much as a football player? They are likely just as talented just in something different. Than the question becomes does a football player at UB deserve to make as much as someone at USC? Paying student athletes would kill college athletics in so many ways its ridiculous. Non money making sports would be cut (which would leave football and mens basketball essentially). A handful of schools would be ridiculously above the rest just because the difference in marketability the athlete would have for himself and students (yes students) would be making college choices based soley on money. Lane Kiffin would be selling these kids (many of which come from nothing) on the money aspect of going there, and nothing else. Remember these are 18 year olds, and college is supposed to prepare them for a future career (99% of which will be not football). Smaller schools and ones in unfavorable markets would totally phased out. Great rivalries like Michigan and Ohio state would lose relevance. Traditions lost. Thats why they dont pay student athletes.

  3. I don't have anything insightful to bring to the table on this subject. I am not on anyone's side and chalk it up to a symptom of our current economic crisis. Some serious factors to consider that are not part of the typical discussion are trends in media distribution and revenue. Also, the fact that the NFL made amazing profits in this recession is over stated. Employees make predictions based on the trends of last year. Entrepreneurs typically assess cause and effect on larger scales and far longer tim frames. We avoided our debt crisis by INVESTING in more debt. If you have it in you to look at the big picture the owners are of the belief that the Golden Egg of TV revenue will be shrinking in the foreseeable future. I am personally under the impression that our economic woes will continue with increasing unemployment, increasing high school dropout rates, inflation, higher taxes and expenses, exporting of more jobs, and the importing of illegal labor. If your fan base is fighting something like this, how can you possibly think the owners would be confidant that their League is not extremely vulnerable moving forward. Due to inflation, the owners expenses will be going up every year. Some teams even with TV revenue are not especially profitable, now picture a slide in Sunday ticket subscriptions or and a potential freeze on it's cost. Imagine the decline in advertising money. It's not unimaginable for a one or two year decline of 10% in this revenue to absolutely kill certain teams versus the rising operating costs. Under the circumstances, I am feeling a little greedy myself. Perhaps I should take this cue from the owners and not invest in there future debt.

That is my favorite thing ive ever read on this site.

  4. for entertainment?

I actually think some of the ones they hit on were pretty cool, like Carimi to the Bears and Baldwin to the Chiefs.

Gettin 2 right in January is pretty darn good I agree

And to the OP, we read them because theyre fun. You know going in that every one is wrong. Everytime.

  5. There are plenty of Posters in this thread that I respect a lot, so I'm not going to say too much...But I am surprised there is not more concern about Mallett's upside knowing who just Drafted him...Remember...Belichick was NOT a Bledslow guy...His mentor was...He's the one that would not re-insert him as the Starter when he was healthy, and of coarse the one that Traded Bledslow...Belichick CLEARLY sees something in Mallett if the reports are true and he had Mallett the #1 QB on their Board...No matter what you think about Mallett, I would be a bit concerned knowing BB likes him THAT much...I mean...Sure I hope Mallett totally sucks now...But I am worried longterm...It's not like Belichick has gone easy on us over the past decade or so... B-)

EVERYTIME a QB is drafted, by any team, he was always the "top guy on their board"

  6. No I am not upset that they are trying to fix a terrible defense, and as far as the first two picks, Dareus is a great pick and Williams is was also borderline first round talent. The ridiculous reach with the third round pick when Mallet was sitting right there for taking is what makes no sense. And for you info, any pick in the NFL Draft is an assessment, as picks at any draft spot and any position can and have be major busts or major superstars. You are 100% correct in that Fitz is a Stop Gap, which means short term, and with absolutely nobody to step when his short tenure is over. What happens if Fitz has a good year (last year may have been his best, but for conversations sakes), and he goes elsewhere for more money than Cheap Ralphy will pay him? There is no guarantee there will be a franchise tag, and anyone who would pay Fitz that much anyway is crazy. If he leaves then what do we do? Nobody with a brain can say Fitz is the long term answer with a straight face. I like Fitz but lets be a realist, we aren't going to challenge the Pats or Jets in the AFC East with him at the helm. I guess my point is, when you are one of the 3 or 4 worst teams in the NFL, you can't throw away picks just like you can't ignore a hole at the most important position on the team. There is no guarantee on a quarterback in the draft turning into the QB you need, but if you don't take one, you will never know. Kinda like you can't win the lottery if you don't buy a lottery ticket.

Obviously you are a Mallet fan. But, when you really think about it, dont you think if Mallet were the franchise QB you are portraying him as, that he would have went before the 3rd round? As we all know franchise QBs dont grow on trees, this kid obviously needed guidance and there is no doubting his talent, but there is a reason he fell so low in the draft. NE is a good place for him whee he can sit, learn, and hopefully get his head on straight for a few years. And for the record, I would have liked him with our 3rd over Sheppard, but can absolutely see why we stayed clear of him.

But to say he will beat us for a decade after Brady is gone, when he hasnt taken an NFL snap is a ridiculous statement at best.

  7. Another one of these threads? Couldn't you have just posted in one of the others?

Well, if you looked at the time I started this thread, you will see that this isnt "another one of those threads" since it was the first of the now multiple poll threads.

and "Aaron Ross" on my list was actually supposed to be Aaron Williams, which I fixed, even though i think we should not draft a CB at all this year, maybe a safety though.
