  1. Exactly.

I am one who often whines about how wrong the conventional wisdom can be compared to reality (like the expectation a first round pick should start immediately or at least soon in his rookie year- in reality a 1st rounder is a little over 50% likely to first on the depth chart at his position his second year- and that is simply the reality).

Maybin disappointed this year big time, but to write him off right now as a stupid pick may prove to be true in a couple of years but is simply premature right now.

I'm not discrediting the pick i was just stating the fact that the coaching staff, our HC and DC said this guy is not good enough to help this team win. This can either work to ways. A) (which i hope happens) Lights a fire under his a$$ and turns him into a monster DE/LB or B) kills his spirit/drive and makes him think "did i make the right choice, am i good enough to be here" We have seen it before with this coaching staff... :)

  2. This just shows how messed up college football is, and how little a non title bowl means. The team is 12-0 with a chance to finish #2 in the polls and he just takes off. Why can't they finish the season first. If there was a playoff, he would certainly be staying to try and win the National Title. But this proves every other bowl game is meaningless. I feel sorry for the players who have busted their a$$es all year long.

We blame these players for being "young punks" in the NFL but look what they are learning from. How do you tell 18-22 year old kids that hey everything i told you the past years, months is all B.S. see ya im off to coach somewhere else, Good luck in playing in one of the most important games in your lives, i wont be there for you. :)

  3. And who are you to say who and who is not a fan around here. For all I know, you want this team to win with this garbage so they can continue on the road of mediocrity. Maybe it is you who wishes ill on the Bills. It does not take a genius to figure out why people want them to lose out and they ONLY have the best interest of the team in mind.

This has NOTHING to do with bandwagon....what is so difficult to figure out??? You want to cheer on wins with these guys, fine but don't jump on people who are looking out for what they think is best in the long run.

I think we may have different definitions of bandwagon. I see a bandwagon fan as someone as soon as their team quote unquote sucks they are completly down on the team discrediting and tearing through and placing unwarrented blame on anyone and everyone, but ass soon as the team is good they are the first to say how they always believed in this team and knew they would be good, they called all the shots.

Yes i am wishing ill on the team i have been crazy about the past 23 years. I want them to win yet i am wishing them ill, makes alot of sense.

What the hell has losing done for anyone in the past besides making them the punch line of the NFL?

  4. There may not be more this year as it is easy to postulate that historically they were reported less (ignored more often). I have no doubt that Jimbo, for example, played more than one game with a concussion. There is just more awareness to the dangers now. I'm sure it was not that long ago that you were thought of as a pansy if you did not suck it up and go back into the game.

Very good point. Even now a days(just ask Hines Ward) players are literally killing themselves (Kyle Turley for example) just to play an xetra 2 games a season.

I just dont see how risking you health and life are worth that much to some of theses guys.

And for the guys like Hines Ward just need to not judge other people for not killing themselves for a game.

  5. I'm no doctor but the human body was not intended to take the repetitive pounding, blows, and physical punishment seen in football.

I understand that, but dont you think it would lessen the severity or amount of times the concussion happens. Not to mention how lose some of these players wear their helmets .

I was thinking maybe instal a type of memory foam around the top of the head and jaw cheek area so it takes away some of the blow to the head.

  6. You may agree or disagree with people wanting "their" team to lose. But it has nothing to do with being on the "bandwagon". What they want, right or wrong, is to lose so much as to get a better draft pick to make the team better (in theory anyway) in the future.

I understand your point but we will agree to disagree.

  7. Many bills fans feel that OraKpo should have been the bills selection at 11, and while he has looked better than Maybin, he has really struggled. True nfl fans know that he has lost a lot of playing time recently and has been exploited by opposing defenses. Many big plays have gone against Washington with him on the field, especially in the running game. Maybin has not played LB and would struggle like Orakpo at that position.

    +1

Orakpo is better than Maybin yes, by alot probably but he to is a project for them. Just an easier one. They neede a stud LB to help POZ out. The nock on POZ is he is a terrible LB but when teams plan around him what do you expect, who is his help. When we get another stud linbacker in here you can bet your  that POZ will be good.

  8. I want to lose out!! Some may call me a bad fan...but its only whats best for the team in the end, so I dont see it as bad!!

People who want this team to lose are bad fans, or i like to say bandwagon fans. When things go south you automatically discredit everything. BUT as soon as it turns around your the first to say i always "bill-ieved" in this team. I cannot root for this team to lose, NOR WILL I. What they get the 6th pick instead of the 8th big deal. what good has a top ten pick done us in the past IDK 10+ years

Besides i prefer pick 32, but thats just my preference.

  9. It seems that every week there are 4-5 players going down with concussions. Do you think that the NFL should invest into creating a new safer helmet for the players to wear? I dont ever recall this many concussions in one season in all my years of watching football. If anyone has any info/input on this i would love to know.

If this has already been started/ talked about somewhere else i am sorry, but im kinda new to the board.

    What do ya guys think?

  10. I dont think its just a "Bills" problem. Its a league wide thing. There is so much emphasis on getting bigger and stronger that the players bodys are under so much stress that they wear out faster and easier. Plus the equipment is outdated, especially helmets. I dont remember seeing as many concusions ever as i have seen this year. The helmets need to be upgraded and fast.

Now im no doctor its just my opinion, but i did stay at a holliday inn last night!

  11. I have to agree with you I will say we are evaluating on e of the most important positions on the field HC.

So comes the everlasting debate. Does the head coach make the payers? Or do the players make the head coach?

There is only so much you can teach before pure talent come in to play.

  12. I know this place is good at grudges...somebody should save these, so when Maybin turns out to be a stud, you can put them in your signature.

At this point, it is not hurting us any to have him as a project. It may end up working to our advantage. Next year, at the ripe old age of 22 he will have a year of NFL experience, and still be younger than a lot of guys coming out in the draft. The obvious issues with his being overpowered will, no doubt, be addressed in the off season. He is not Schobel or Kelsay. He is 21 years old. He still can add muscle and bulk quickly. The other undersized DE's we have are on the physical decline.

Maybin does have some fire, maybe a little misplaced, but he has emotion...see his celebrating every tackle. He is a competitor, and is embarrassed of his lack of productivity, be sure of that.

You can't gain experience if you cant get on the field. Yea he may be good in 3 years but with this "new coaching staff" coming in will they give him time to "develope"

That is the thing that annoys me most about Maybin. He jumps on the pile/ ball carrier a second after he is down, gets up and celebrates. Maybe when he makes a game changing play then celebrate.

Bottom line guy cant even get on the field for a team that cant win ball games, stop the run, or get a decent consistent pass rush, which is supposed to be his speacialty.

  13. one sentence in one month that sounds something like jauron would have said, when talking about a player jauron picked (small, high -motor, tries hard) and people are flipping out. we are one of the worst ran organizations in all of professional sports, we have so much more to be upset about.

I believe that having an inept front office that makes 1st Rd selections that cant help a 4-8 football team, with one of the worst defenses win games in a very big problem. Not to mention the fact that this F.O. will most likely still be here next year.

Jauron may have picked hime but our scouting dept GM and the entire F.O. saw this guy as a diamond in the rough...??

  14. A quote from a Buffalo news article:

"Them" would be Perry Fewell, the Bills' defensive coordinator and interim head coach. Fewell was blunt when asked about his rookie end. He said that Maybin will be a "dynamic" player in the league one day. But that day hasn't arrived. Fewell said the kid isn't good enough to help him win right now.:thumbsup:

Are the first 15 picks not supposed to be instant contributors in the NFL???

  15. I laugh every time someone claims this is not a good year for drafting a QB. This is THE YEAR to draft a QB. There hasn't been this much QB talent in a draft in a long time. The draft is simply just over analyzed. There are 2 Heisman Trophy winners in Bradford and Tebow (potentially 3 if McCoy wins this year). And Clausen, Locker, Snead, Pike, LeFevour, and Robinson ALL have starting potential. And Mallett may declare as well. That's TEN QB's Buffalo has a shot at. What's the dilemma here? ****, I'd take 2 of them just to increase the potential of us landing a starter.

    +1

Agree completely. Plus probably 3 of the 4 best QB's playing right now (Brees, Favre, Brady) were all first round... Oh my bad that was JP Losman.

    Point is ya never know.
