We all know this team is a disaster and changes are coming... we just don't know what they will be. The offense is bad, and the defense, getting know help from the offense, will have logged enough plays that to have actually played 19 games. To add to all of this, we have an uncapped season coming up. What will that mean?
It would be interesting to know your thoughts on the uncapped season. But, off the top of my head, I see potential for a few things...
1) Cutting a high salary, low performance player might be en vogue big time. If a player signed a 5 Yr. $50M contract last year with a $10M signing bonus, cutting him would have no salary cap backlash. A team would have to pay any guaranteed money owed to the player though. Jamarcus Russel, you are gone... but don't cry... with the money you've already been paid, you're set for life... unless you are totally stupid.
2) There could be a slew of trades in the offseason... a team might want to part ways with player with a big contract whose performance is OK but doesn't figure into the teams plans. Or, just fill holes by exchanging players. The salary cap was a huge obstacle in making trades. Again, those bonuses that would automatically roll up in one cap year wouldn't happen with no cap, therefore no obstacle.
3) I'd be shocked if a few of the richer teams went on a spending spree for players because, if the owners are whole reason about nixing the current CBA they signed a few years ago, high player salaries, a 58% revenue contribution to the salaries, then increasing salaries and adding to your payroll doesn't augment their argument and would do just the opposite, giving the players leverage in a new CBA.
I see it as a way for teams to cut their losses and purge players that are not playing to the level of their contracts (value). In terms of the Bills, that would be Stroud, Kelsay, and possibly Schobel, McGee and Evans. The latter three I add because, if you plugged in three avg. or slightly below avg. players at those three positions, how much worse does it make this team? If Schobel and McGee don't have a lot more help from the front seven, what difference do they make... plus McGee can't hold up a full season. In Evans case, what good is he if he doesn't have a QB or Oline that can get him the ball? It's going to take 3-4 years to get this team to the playoffs with or without those players... and they'll be gone by then anyway.
As for the Bills... will they continue to "window dress" and whip up batches of koolaid for the 14 -35 year old fans (because they buy into bullschitt real easy... they think it's Madden), or do they blow the football operations up completely and go back to the drawing boards. If they choose the latter, we need someone in charge with strong leadership, that understands talent, coaching, is decisive, and above all, understands Buffalo... the community, the fans, and especially the climate. I believe the new guy in charge of football needs to mold this team to the Buffalo climate.... bruising ground game, big physical defense. The 3-4 needs to come back. Guys like Schobel, Denney, Kelsay, might be salvageable as OLBs... if not, cut the losses and move on. Offensively... a lot of focus needs to be placed on the o line... especially both OTs... that has to come before any talk of a QB, even though we need one desperately. I don't see too many QBs being available... perhaps Bulger or Anderson. But don't go after a QB unless you've secured the o line.
Yeah... it's going to be a strange but interesting offseason with not only the changes at OBD, but the uncapped year as well. Who knows what will happen. I can only guarantee that there will be a new batch of koolaid whipped up because they still need to sell tickets. That is definitely going to happen. But, this time, will there be some meat, potatoes, and substance to go with it? We don't want them to sign some clown like TO or Vick. We want them to clean house and build a new foundation.
So you mean to tell me my xbox 360 was not broken the past 15 weeks? I couldnet figure out why the play calls i picked were never ran. Man im glad we cleard this up. I should probably call microsoft.
Oh and because i am in that age group i know nothing about football, is that what your saying. I normally dont bash people for their opinion but do not say that people dont know football.
Oh and a little knowledge drop signing bonus kinda guarantees money, cutting and trading these high salary underperforming players results in Cap Penalties. Besides if you tried to offer me a trade with above describe player i would laugh in your face and give you a high five for making my day less hectic

It was the exact type of play that Brady injured his knee. It was also the exact type of play that got the rule which disallows defenders diving at the QB at or below his knees (i.e., the Brady rule). In those cases where Brady is whining about it...he knows the rules and is just trying to get an extra 15 yards. As much as we hate that wuss, we'd be just as ok with it if the Bills QB was doing the same whining.
There were some clear missed calls & non-calls yesterday, but I don't think the refs affected the outcome.
I understand your point, but if i do remember Schobel was chopped by the running back and he went flying through the air and landed at ol Tommy Boys feet, and touched his little piggy toe, and Tom ran all the way home to tell mommy about it...
I dont beliver the refs influenced the game as much as others but this guys whines about everything.

(I am a said dumbass when it comes to the Bills)
^^^^As am I GO BILLLLLSSSS!!!!
-
Brady is an embarrassment to himself.
Every time that p%$^y gets touched he is glaring at the ref(s) and/or chirping at the refs for a call.
I almost jumped through my TV when i saw Tom Brady look at the official when Schobel fell at his feet. Honestly are you that much of a(an) (insert word here_____) to every time someone touches you, you have to B*t** about it to the ref to get a penalty. As you can see im still pi$$ed!!!

Incognito was a pile of refuse in St. Louis, and he's a pile of refuse in Buffalo. Same refuse, different city. Great pickup.
How many games did you watch in St.Louis. What do you know about the guy besides what you have heard. He was one of the only guys getting off his intitial block to get to the second level to hit an LB. Hangartner played exceptional to yesterday.
Can some people just never be satisfied???

Yes, the Bills desperately need a QB, but drafting high doesn't guarantee anything. There have been some big time busts to go along with the players you listed:
1999 #1 pick Tim couch, #3 Akili Smith
2002 #1 pick David Carr, #3 Joey Harrington
2003 #7 Byron Leftwich (decent, but not a franchise QB)
2004 #22 Darryl Lamonica
2005 #1 Alex Smith (jury is still out on him)
2006 #3 Vince Young (see Alex Smith), #10 Matt Leinart
2007 #1 JaMarcus Russell
So, picking high is still hit or miss and if you miss on a high draft pick QB it sets the franchise back even farther....
Remember when everyone freaked out because we passed on the great Matt Leinart
glad we "wiffed" there.
I'l take the 32nd pick in the draft!!

What the hell kind of message board is this?????
Apparently we drink alot???

I agree except for two points:
Philly is not going to the SB with McNabb again. That already happened once. How does he get by either NO or Minn, two far better teams with better QBs? They have 2 quality wins (both against the struggling Giants), lost to Oakland and squeaked by Wash and Chicago. Don't see it happening.
Didnt the Cardinals go 8-8 last year with 6 of their wins coming against their pathetic division and all 8 of those coming at home, while going 0-8 on the road.
Phili has been my dark horse to go to the superbowl for awhile now.

either you or I missed his point...i read that post to indicate that he was ticked that so many here are passing judgement on chris henry rather than just being 'saddened' at the passing of a young life....course i could be wrong
If so i apologize for my rant. Sorry this stuff just gets me really heated. I should probably stay away from this thread.

PROS:
- Strong Arm
- Surgical accuracy
- Cold-weather tested (sorry Senator...
)
- Pro-style offense
- 3-year starter
- Moxie
CONS:
- He's from California so he's obviously the same as RJ, JP and Trent
- He had spiky hair when he was 18
- He played at ND so he's obviously the same as Rick Mirer or Brady Quinn
Bottom line, he is the most mechanically sound, pro-offense learned, spotlight tested, highest ceiling QB in this draft. If we have the chance to draft him, we do it.
I agree 100% I dont understand the JC sucks because he came from the same school as Brady Quinn. Most of the JC opposers just dont like him because of the hatred for ND. I would take here him above any qb in this draft.
Kid had no defense to help him win games, his top 2 receivers (Flloyd, and the TightEnd his name escapes me) went down for long periods of time. Yet his numbers were still really good.

I think Ill sit here behind my computer from the comfort of my warm office and throw up some self-righteousness and judgement on somebody who died that I didnt even know.
Maybe when somebody I DO know gets a hangnail, I can lean on a LAMP post and ask for prayers...to ya know...show how "sympathetic" I am!
Or maybe when get they forget the toy in my happy meal, I can whine about the "injustice" I endured.
Yeah...thats the ticket!!!!!!!!!
So because people are wishing him well? you just called pretty much everyone in this post an idiot. Yet you sit there and compare death to a happy meal, or a hangnail.
Get real man. Godforbid something like this happened to someone you knew but we didnt. would you still feel the same way?
-
Sad stuff right there. I dont care who you are, who you play for. Kid was a god player and starting to get his life together is seemed. Prayers for his family
The thing that gets me is I dont know what the sense is with people on this board wishing for people to "kick the bucket" It just does not make sense to me. Wishing ill and death on someone just is not tolerable in my book, but i guess thats just me.
RIP Chris.

25 (26) Bills 5-8-0 The Bills' victory over Kansas City might have set football back 10 years, but interim coach Perry Fewell liked it. (Clayton)
He's right, and it hurts.
10 years ago we were in the playoffs I'd take that!
-
Our line is already one of the most penalized.. Ah what the hell go for it.
Whats the worst that could happen?
-
Last time i checked if you scored more points than the other team in a game that went in the W column. So yes a win is still a win. Unless i missed something?
Yes. What's more important.. .the Bills winning games? Or your fantasy players having nice stats, along with a few highlights on ESPN? I think you have your priorities all wrong if you want low scoring, ugly wins over better FF numbers.Fantasy Football has ruined true fanhood in the NFL, I'l admit i play it, but there is no sense of fanhood anymore. Cheering for your arch rival just so your WR has a big game in fantasy.

What this guy said.
I was getting at the point of, if the Broncos let this guy go it will be thie biggest melt down in Denver since the retirement of Elway. The fans will be calling for the coaches head. No way do i think the Bills even look at this guy.
-
I met JP at the Snooty Fox in Buffalo once. Nice guy, throws his money around (bought 8 shots of King Louis which is $150 a shot) he didnt buy me one though
.
Nice guy but QB wise idk, but good luck to him.

What everyone is forgetting is that if we do get a new coach and GM, they are going to start a cleaning house, and bring in their own players in the draft or F.A. They will start with the most important position, or noticable position on the field. That is the quarterback. Since there are probably going to be no good upside QB's in FA then the draft is where is is going to be.
How many times have you seen a new coach this year stick with previous QB's. EX) Den, KC, Wsh(though they still have campbell, they tried to trade him) of this year
-
Do you guys remember when the Bills walked off the field on a 2 point conversion at the end of the game after being screwed by the refs on 2-3 bad calls? I had/ and still have never seen that ever! I dont recall what year it was, and i believe it was against the Pats* if my mind serves me correctly.
Wish i could provide a link but im at work and surfing the web is really hard to do here.
-
I do not, and if anyone (after Parrish) is trade bait it'd be him in my book.
Who misses Mckelvin?
Me.
Lets trade all our firsrt round picks then have no money for next year because of Cap penalties.
The kid has shown he can be good.
Plus first round pick = LARGE signing bonus = LARGE cap penalty
-
Well, teams have attempted 426 passes on us and we have 25 INTs. That means we have missed out on 401 INTs. That's pretty terrible if you ask me.
HAHA
... Seriously though Florence is a lot better than i thought he was, pleasent surprise. With McKelvin back( i dont care what he did, kids got talent) Mcgee, Corner, and our ball hawking safeties (Who tried to kill each other for that last int against KC by the way) we have a pretty solid DB core.

My cat's breath smells like cat food.
^^^This HAHAH...The Simpsons, so classy!!!

Jamal Charles? Try again
7 games started, 605 yards, 5.2 YPC, and 4 touchdowns. Not to mention on a bad team. Plus the defenses hes run against are very good SD, DEN, PIT.
Kids terrible <------ sarcasm

Number 1 priority should be Marshall. The kid is a freak of nature. 21 catches thats half of our leading receivers total for the year.

I am actually kinda pissed that he didnt try to tear someones head off.
He went un-noticed pretty much the entire game by the refs <--- Sorry i had to /sarcasm off
