Is anyone excited for the game Sunday?
SpecialK15 replied to zow2's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Sorry for getting excited about a divisional game. You must have stopped watching the Bills already and are waiting for next year. I want my team to beat a division rival. In a losing season, that's all I really care about, if the season doesn't mean playoffs after the regular season. I don't understand how 'fans' can cheer for 'their' team when they are winning, but in a losing season you don't want them to win so they can get a better draft pick. Great loyalty -

I'll take choosing our 1st rd-er one spot lower if we beat NE this weekend. Yeah, I'd like us to get the highest draft pick possible, but I hate the patriots even more and I am SICK of losing to them. -
With injuries and the number of players on IR continuing to mount. I must pose the question. Are injuries a result of poor play (position technique, mistakes made on coverage, etc.)? In my opinion, I say yes. As we've seen this year, a core group of the, seemingly less exclusive by the week, IR club is comprised of the OL. Poor play and being over matched by the defenses we've played probably caused them to make mistakes/missteps thus making injuries more prone to happen. That being said, we do have a huge number of (sub/)average players and not enough studs, which make playing playoff caliber teams even that more difficult. A vicious cycle...
-
Now this is just a 'what if' scenario, but since the Bills already have 15 some players on IR, I thought I'd just throw this out there. How do you think Perry would do as HC of the Bills if he had his healthy roster? Do you think we'd end up a 7-9 (or worse) team again, or would we actually have had a shot at the playoffs. With Fitz (and his shotty, at best, play) and Fewell managing the game, we've won 4 of our 5 wins. Something to think about: if he does land the HC job he will have this core of guys next year...

I agree with this one. Who knows how TE would have turned out if he was on a different team (sitting the bench and learning for a few years from the beginning). It's a coaching staff's responsibility to develop young QBs and it's quite obvious that DJ sent him in the wrong direction. That being said, IMO I think he's done in the league for now. Probably will play a backup role wherever he lands next until the starter gets injured and he gets another shot.

I'm not saying Orton is a Denver's solution of a franchise QB by any means. Just that Orton has played well enough to make Denver a winning team for a trade that should have helped out Chi more in the short term.
-
Since it's obvious that we are looking for a franchise QB, are there any in the league now that are on bad teams but could be a better fit in Buffalo? Chicago took a shot at Cutler, but look how that turned out. Denver sure got their money's worth with Orton under center. We need a young QB that could lead this team for years. Or should we turn to the draft for our next go at our QB of the future?

I like Jackson as the starter, but keep in mind of his age. Marshawn is much younger and having youth at RB is important too. NE can have older RBs on their team because they had 5 at the beginning of the season to spread out the load. Think back to when Tiki Barber retired. He still had very productive seasons in his final two, but an injury to an older RB (~30 yrs old) can easily end his career.

The Buffalo Bills at 4-7 are still barely alive

Though we won't make the playoffs this year (let's just be realistic for a moment), after the last two weeks under Fewell, I'm now very interested to see how this season winds down. I'm not sold on Fewell as a head coach just yet, but it should be interesting to see how they do in the spoiler role now. Perhaps a strong finish down the line will draw some interest from the big names. What we need most is a capable GM. Russ Brandon is not a football guy, he's a marketing guy. He does a good job at the marketing, selling tickets, etc. We need someone with a good football background that can come in and reorganize everything so that whoever comes in and takes the helm at HC will be able to concentrate on turning this team around. -
With the signing of Brohm, this should be a wake up call to the other two. Your job is no longer secure through the season and if this isn't incentive to pick up your game, you shouldn't be on the field in a Bills uniform. I really like the move made to sign him. That 3rd string QB spot should really be for developing QBs. I have nothing against Hamdan (since we never saw him in action), I'm sure he's a great guy and all, but he was just out of place being where he fell on the depth chart and it's good to see the team in the process of developing a talented young QB. We'll just have to see how it plays out. I would even go as far to see how he plays toward the end of the season if the rest continues to unfold like it has thus far. That being said, I know there have been serious issues with the offensive line, but they really have done just BARELY enough time to allow the QB to make a throw (not counting the ridiculous amount of penalties they've been flagged for). Side note: glad to see that Wilson has risen from his slumber, though it may be too late for him, to make serious and necessary changes. As a fan, it's reassuring that we may have a future team that will actually be competitive in this league.

Now that Jauron is gone, Bills players really have something to play for. Before the start of next season, the new head coach will have to evaluate who he wants on his team. If I were a Bills player, I'd be playing like there is no tomorrow because if they don't they may be out of a job next season.

T.O. a no go = Hardy starting?
SpecialK15 replied to Glass To The Arson's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If the second half of the season plays out like the first, I'd be rotating the younger guys in and seeing their potential: i.e. Steve Johnson and Hardy. I would never take Evans out because he is too good to take off the field. Yeah his numbers aren't great (who has good ones on this team?) but he makes plays when it comes his way (not dropping the ball, T.O., and working for extra yards). -
It's a good article for several reasons. The main one being that we need a QB for this franchise and we don't quite have one yet. Going back to Trent's comment a couple weeks ago about being a Bills player, not a fan... You know what goes a long way for making a player great in the league? Someone that is a fan of the team he's on regardless of where he is playing or what team he used to root for. This doesn't just go for QBs, it goes for everyone on the field. Couple of examples: Brett Favre - he wanted to play for the Vikings and look what he's done. Tom Brady and Randy Moss (yes I do not like them but....) their stats speak for themselves. Chad Ochocinco - last year he was in the dog house with the team for his attitude and had a terrible season and this year he is playing like his all pro self because he keeps his mouth shut and wants the team to win. Taking a look at our team... the best examples I can think of are Aaron Schobel and Terrence McGee. Schobel likes playing for Buffalo and wanted to stay here. Injuries aside, he is, year in and year out, one of our most consistent players. McGee wanted to play out his career for Buffalo - another good, consistent player. Now look at T.O. does he want to be here? He sure is playing like he doesn't and stats speak for themselves (Evans runs hard and doesn't drop balls, makes plays when the ball comes his way). I can't really speak for the young guys, but one player I'd like to see get some action is Steve Johnson. The guy has the size and skills but he's buried on the depth chart because of his 7th rd, 2nd yr status. The guy freesytles about the Bills and has made an impact when he got in last year, potentially has the opportunity to become a big factor in our offense if given the chance. Sorry for the long idealist post, but as a long time athlete who has been on winning and losing teams, I know from many years of experience that this is a game changing attitude.

Players really, really like Jauron
SpecialK15 replied to RockPile007's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Not sure how relevant this is, but I just figure I put it out there. In terms of coaching, it shouldn't matter whether or not players like the coach. Actually, I'd rather have them playing for someone who is constantly on their backs about something to get them to play better rather than coddling them. Showing no emotion kills energy. Look at the impact Rex Ryan had in NY with his energy. Players want to play for DJ simply because they like him, I'm not sure how many of the players actually respect him as a coach. -
I'd vote to give Fitz time to play. Let Trent sit on the bench and watch and see in real time what he needs to work on for himself/ what he would do in those situations. Apparently we had said before that he doesn't watch film of other QBs. This may help him and also give us a chance to see if we can do at least a half way decent job with Fitz under center
-
After Sunday's game, and what's happened the last 3 weeks to the Jets to bring them back to earth, it's clear to say Rex Ryan's honeymoon with Mark Sanchez is over. I'm not saying the Bills played amazing by any means, but intercepting him 5 times should remind everyone that he is a ROOKIE. I've been waiting a long time to say this. I expect to see no real upswing in the Jets game since Jenkins seems to be hurt pretty badly. That means more time on offense for opposing teams and more dependability on the Jets offense. Good news for us since we have one more crack at them.

Parrish is “finished” in Buffalo
SpecialK15 replied to bills_red's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I've always liked Roscoe for his effort and ability, but let's face it. He is too small to be a slot receiver or a kickoff return man. I've seen too many games where he gets the ball then gets crushed by a DB or LB. He has ridiculous speed, which is his greatest attribute, but he is not strong enough. Once a defender gets his hands on him, he's down. We do have other guys that can fill his role on special teams. Next year, Leodis will take his role in returns and shows a lot of promise (despite the fumble during week 1). I really like Steve Johnson. People really don't pa attention to him because he is buried on the depth chart. He is a big guy and has great hands. Look back to the '08 season. His stats weren't good simply because of his playing time - remember he's was a 7th round rookie. But he made plays when he got in the game and did what he needed to when called upon. He knows how to use his bigger frame to get in good position to make the catch. -
Should Fred get the bulk of the carries?
SpecialK15 replied to zow2's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You have to look at the players strengths and what the situation is. We're blessed to have to very good RBs who have different strengths. Marshawn moves the piles and is one of the strongest runners in the league. Sometimes it takes 5 defenders to take him down. He is a cut then run player that can make many players miss the tackle and is a better blocker than Fred. Fred has an amazing burst of speed once he hits the holes. He can catch the ball very well. I don't think age really has a factor in the conversation simply because of the time Fred has spent in the NFL on the active roster. Yes, he is 29, but he hasn't taken the beating that 6-7year veteran RB has taken. -
Yes problems start with DJ. However, he is the one that has to solve them and (to use one of his most frequently used words) OBVIOUSLY he can't bring anything to the table to fix the problems. It's not on the players to solve them. Players play the way they are coached. Here is a coach that shows no emotion. How are players going to feed off that? By playing with no emotion. Okay so he's a Yale guy, smart (book smart), whatever, but sports cannot just rely on intelligence alone. Over thinking, playing the odds, being logical - it doesn't always work. In our case, it hasn't worked at all this season.

Jauron to address media at 12:30
SpecialK15 replied to BLZFAN4LIFE's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I believe this is the second time this season DJ said after a game that he has to do a better job preparing the guys to play. That is his only job once the season starts! Clearly he is not doing his job if he admits that he is incapable of doing it.
