Who knows how Wyatt would have turned out here. I think he benefitted greatly from having Bill Callahan as his coach.

He started some games his rookie year for us and did well.  Many on this board felt he was ascending leading up to the trade.  I'm not sure anyone was predicting he was going to be a pro-bowler.  He was closer to what Ike Boettger was at the start of last year

  2. One of the things I found interesting is although the two mocks have a lot of differences, they both show Gregory Rosseau as top 5.  By sitting out 2020, he's dropped to the point where he could be on the board when Bills pick.  It will be interesting to see where he goes as his drop is entirely due to sitting out.  Plenty of mocks have shown him available at #30

  3. As I'm tired of looking at all these, I thought I'd reach back to see how publications did on a really old 2021 mock.  Here are two that were published in May 2020, just a week or so after last year's draft.

Bleacher Report:  they got about 13 of 32 players picked that have been commonly mocked to 1st round now.  Three big misses in the top 10; Justyn Ross, Samuel Cosmi and Marvin Wilson.  As they get into back half, they have some players that now commonly dropping to 2nd round.  They mostly get the teams in the right general area.  Biggest misses came on Cowboys and 49ers on back end.

CBS Sports:  this one's not quite as close.  They have several misses in top-15.  They have three QBs in the first round that have disappeared; KJ Costello, Tanner Morgan and Jamie Newman.  They miss Zach Wilson and Mac Jones on their list.

Baker signed a couple of huge commercial deals after his rookie season when he was said to be the next Johnny Unitas

A couple of companies gambled and lost. The hype died

Mayfield has taken on the successor to Peyton Manning comedy role.  Have to wonder if it will typecast him.  I have a hard time picturing him anything other than goofy skit commercials now.

Thanks @cage, I just signed up based in no small part on your detailed recommendation, looks like the deal for $1/month vs 7.99/month was enough to reel me in this time 😁

np.... as you're probably still tooling around the site and with just a few days before the draft.  Here is Dana Brugler's complete NFL draft guide ranking every player available and then some.  This alone makes the subscription worth it!

Makes me almost want to get an Athletic subscription.  Is it worth it?

Its absolutely worth it.  Its the only subscription of any kind that I pay for.  The Bills writers Joe Buscaglia and Matt Fairburn do so many great stories and analysis.  Then John Vogl focuses on Sabres.  He's got tough assignment.  Also Tim Graham simply paints on a broader canvas.   He'll do Bills/Sabres stories, but also stretches to general Buffalo sports stories that are totally captivating.

Buscaglia focuses heavily on analysis; post-game, draft, roster and such.  Fairburn does Bills analysis, but also these kinds of great stories.  One of the best ones he did was a feature on Ike Boettger.  It was mid-season, right after the Seahawks games, where the team just dominated.  The personal interest story seemed initially weird on the heels of that game, but he really brought it together well tying it to the game as it coincided w/ Boettger's first start.  Reaching beyond the Bills/Sabres, Graham did an outstanding story on ex-wrestler Lex Luger who went to Orchard Park HS and has fallen on some very hard times.  He also did a great story on Stevie Johnson.

All of its worth the $!

  7. An outstanding pass rusher.  The Super Bowl reinforced to me how critical that is as the Bucs swarmed Mahomes continually.  Our pass rush has been weak in big games.  Not sure if Epenesa is one of those guys yet and the other two are well into their '30s.  Beane has shown that he can buy competent CB, WR, OL help if necessary, but finding great pass rush outside the draft is very tough.  That's what we need to get to next level...
