  1. I'd say

    McCargo--lazy, unmotivated

    Lynch--trouble maker, character issues

    Bell--lack of talent

    McCargo--lazy, unmotivated

    * yep and coach gailey will not put up with that imo - he will either give 110% or be cut - and it is possible (though not likely) that he can be properly motivated to perform - at least he will be in the right environment for that to happen.

    Lynch--trouble maker, character issues

    * spot on - one poor choice away from being suspended for a year - he is a liability imo

    Bell--lack of talent

    * maybe a little early on this call oh spherical one - maybe just a tad early - let's see what he has after being coached up by a decent coaching staff directed by a good offensive minded hc

  2. I have been nothing but surprised by the Bills in the off season.

Why should it not carry into the regular season.

    Buddy Nix..surprise

    Chan Gailey..surprise and shock

    CJ Spiller... surprise

No QB in the off season..surprise.

No LT in the off season...surprise.

I hope the surprises from here on end are pleasant.

I think we can bank on more surprises.

pathetically clueless - i am so glad you have nothing to do with building my beloved bills team into a professional, respectable, and competitive football team again.

and here are my reasons why:

    1. Buddy Nix..surprise - a very good to great football move

    2. Chan Gailey..surprise and shock - a gifted offensive minded coach that brings the best out of his qb's

    3. CJ Spiller... surprise - a brilliant move to grab the best player available and who btw was the most exciting player last year because he has the ability to score a td every time he touches the ball

    4. No QB in the off season..surprise. - no surprise to me . . . see the second reason above

5, No LT in the off season...surprise. - again no surprise as they probably will bring someone in before camp

no need to panic or spew negative garbage when there hasn't even been an entire team ota yet - really

  3. After looking over the potential roster I feel the Bills will surprise us by putting a pretty good team on the field...

They still have lots of question marks... I feel the Bills are still weak at both tackle positions... One of the QBs needs to step up. Another player besides Evans needs to step up and the TE position needs to be more productive. Over all I see a better offense because of the coaching changes and with Nix doing a better job then those picking before him.

Even though the defense is changing to a 3/4 style I believe they now have the players who can play it up front (7)..

The new defensive coordinator looks solid and capable....

The Bills will surprise us and not finish as badly as some in the media predict.

However... We will still not make the playoffs in my opionion....... But they will put a exciting product on the field and not be out played....... Bills need more talent at certain positions and that will come with time.....

nice positive post and i agree 100% - we will put a better product on the field and be more competitive - forget the pre-ota's, pre-camp, and pre-season negative clowns on here - they know nothing else - better yet send some positive thoughts their way to help manage their seemingly difficult point-of-views that they collectively spew on a regular basis.

  4. then it's a good thing clayton's not running the offense - i am hoping he gets closer to 18 carries a game + thrown to 5-7 times a game + any return touches he gets - imo that would put us in a better competitive position.

he has the ability to take it all the way every time he touches the ball - gm nix and coach gailey know this already though

  5. QUOTE (apuszczalowski @ May 13 2010, 08:47 PM)

WHY DOESN'T ANYONE UNDERSTAND, THE FRONT OFFICE GOT EXACTLY WHO THEY WANTED!

    (1) He wasn't asking why they drafted spillar. He was just questioning if it was the best decision or not. And he raised points that weren't brought up before.

    (2) So, duh, the bills got who they wanted, but that doesn't mean it was the best decision.

    (3) And this poster was just making conversation.

    (4) WHY DONT YOU UNDERSTAND?

    1. actually he doesn't like the spillar pick - he has made that clear - really. and yes all of the "points" he made have been made over and over and over and over . . ad nauseam. just get over it already.

    2. well, duh, yes it does mean it was the best decision - why? because they made it. and it will take a year or two to see if it was the correct long-term decision. but at that time is was the best decision - period.

    3. no not really, that poster was still frothing at the mouth about the spiller pick - at best it is re-hashed stale poor conversation - at worst it was just more negativity over that particular pick.

    4. now, why don't YOU understand?

  6. yadda . . . yadda . . . yadda . . . etc.

And I think honestly, most of you would agree with me. You just won't admit it. Oh I know, I know. I can hear you all now:

"Steroids are illegal not only in the sport but under federal law!"

-- (1) Yes, I know steroids are illegal. So is weed. I don't care if a player (or person for that matter) smokes.

"Steroids are a health risk! They cause cancer, they kill you!"

-- (2) Yes, steroids are a health risk. But so too is playing in the NFL. Also, I can show you as many studies that show responsible use of the newer drugs aren't nearly as dangerous as the crap we shovel into our mouths every day from take out joints and fast food places.

"What about the kids! The kids! Think of the poor kids!"

-- (3) Yes, I know it's a bad message to send our kids. But if you're relying on NFL players to set an example for your kids rather than doing it yourself, there are far bigger worries in your life than whether or not Cushing won the vote.

    1. that is a pathetic stance - pathetic.

    2. some studies shows that it takes years and years off of the back end of a lifespan - hmm wonder why is it banned now?

    3. i really feel sorry for you if you can dismiss this point so easily - but then again with your weed comment it is clear why they call it dope.

  7. this one's a little tough to explain, but let me give it my best shot:

    1. we cover the news and don't try to make it (though it can be said we did here).

    2. as we at the AP have a wide breadth of resources, members, we have the capability of drawing upon them when it comes to issuing these awards or coming up with, say, top 25 polls. by being an unbiased news source with a national reach, the AP has traditionally been entrusted to be above board on this.

    3. except for our national football writers (it's currently down to Barry Wilner), AP writers such as i have the responsibility of covering many beats, from hockey, basketball, baseball, colleges to the NFL etc. beat writers at other publications such as Mark Gaughan cover the NFL for a majority of the year. there could be a case made that they see more NFL games and follow the league more than many of us AP sports writers do.

    jw

    thanks john for the explanation

but it is still the ap's award - so the bottom line is: becasue it is the ap's award that makes it ultimately the ap's responsibility for it - no need for reply because the point is clear enough for everyone

  8. (1) I wasn't aware that it was the job of these no-talent hacks to "make statements" and fight cheating in sports. But apparently it is.

I'll ask once again, (2) how is the NFL getting a free pass here? Why is it not the NFL's job to fight cheating in their own sport, and actually suspend an offending player within a reasonable amount of time of his offense?

What if the Texans made the playoffs, went to the Super Bowl, and Cushing was voted the MVP after a huge performance in leading Houston to victory??? Would that award be revoked? Would the Super Bowl be revoked?

The NFL dragged their feet here. The AP even issuing a re-vote was a mistake, nobody really cares about these awards.

By the way, Offensive ROY Percy Harvin failed a drug test at the combine. Marijuana. What kind of message is this for the children??? Waaaaaaahhhhhhh!!!! REVOTE!!!

    (1) three points on that statement: 1. that's all they do is make statements - it is their job - some good and intuitive some not so good - so of course it's their job it since that is what they do; 2. and they made a social statement - and a poor social statement - pathetic; 3. your lack of understanding this is alarming.

    (2) the nfl does not get a pass - but it is not the nfl's award - however it is clear the nfl did not do the right thing either - there we agree on that point

  9. The AP didn't vote. Read what John wrote and don't blame the AP. Look up the voters and how they voted and blame them if you want, but don't blame the organizers of the vote.

that is so wrong - of course you blame the organizers of the vote - it's called the ap rookie of the year award - why? . . . it's their award - it is their responsibility because it is their award - they bask in the glory of it every year . . . except this year where they wallow in the manure of it.

  10. just another in one of the most pathetic statements and/or stances that these worthless no-talent hacks have made. there was an opportunity to stand up and be someone and actually do the right thing and in their typical behavior they made the decision to be no-one, a non-entity, a nothing in the correct fight against cheating in sports. pathetic . . . just pathetic . . . not surprising though considering who was involved.

  11. Well sure... some here seem to believe in an immediate turnaround each and every year before the season even begins... No matter who's been drafted or signed... (1) no matter who the coach or GM is... (2) Its the right answer...

Again, I'll temper my expectations until it actually happens and the slump ends... (3) If Gailey "believes he can pull off a Dolphin like turnaround", wonderful! But lets actually see it happen on the field when the chips are down...

    1. actually who the gm and coach are is the beginning of things getting better

    2. no it's not - the right answer is i really hope you are right about the complete turn around season but i'll be happy with an improvement of the product on the field

    3. and finally - a turn around season CAN'T be accomplished if the hc does not believe it can - it begins there on the field

  12. http://www.metrowny.com/blogs/archives/606...-75b0xw00d.html

I agree with this guy. We need a good solid 24 year old tackle...the Ravens seem committed to Oher at left tackle ans this guy is not going to be happy at RT. I'm really tired of hearing how nix and gailey "tried" (and failed) to get players. Getting this guy would be a huge upgrade to the offense. By saying he would be a huge upgrade is not to praise Gaithers as much as it is a recognition that our offense is pathetic with the existing (or non-existing in the case of offensive tackles.) line.

if he is totally healthy i would agree that he would be a nice upgrade to our o-line - but that does seem to be in question at this point. let him pass a complete medical to include mri's on that foot that held him out of 2 out of 3 days of ot's this past weekend - then they can make a good offer for him.

i have my doubts that he is totally healthy. if all of the posters here think that an lt in his prime is worth so much - and he is one - why would baltimore want to let him go. baltimore has spent money on good players and paid them well - so this isnt about money. oher is a better lt than gaither - i do not think so - close but not as good when both are healthy and playing at their best.

still i guess there could be other reasons (that we know nothing of) for the rave-mans wanting to rid themselves of gaither - i guess i go back to the original idea of let him pass a comprehensive physical first - then let's talk.

  13. No, I'm not saying there's any interest in bringing him in. However, did any of you think we had any interest in the guy we signed last year...that nobody wanted... I'm just praying this doesn't happen. I don't think it would happen, but you never know...

then why even start this thread - really - why

  14. is taking 2nd team snaps…behind 6th round pick Danny Batten and undrafted free agent Antonio Coleman.

Many people here are hopeful and/or predicting that Maybin will experience instant success as a rush linebacker in our new 3-4 scheme.

He was our first round draft pick last year.

Snide "bust" comments notwithstanding, isn't this more than a bit alarming that Maybin is taking snaps behind a 6th round draft pick and an undrafted free agent?!?!?

Maybe they're trying to light a fire under his ass. Either that or they think more highly of the other two players. There's not too many possible explanations out there.

or maybe . . . just maybe . . . they already know that maybin will be on the roster and they want to see what those guys can do since this is a "rookie-mini-camp"

  15. Actually, this is a new subject -- Matt Williamson's take on how Spiller will help Edwards (or whoever the Bills QB ends up being). You can't tell by the original post, which never even mentions No. 21, but the title of the story is "Captain Checkdown has sidekick in Spiller."

hi lori, sorry we missed you last month - the wife and i were looking forward to it - perhaps another time

but on to the reason for the post - first i am not a te fan - but when a national sports reporter demeans (and captain checkdown is demeaning and insulting) a professional athelete it makes me wonder about that reporter's professionalism and motivation for such a negative act of blantant name-calling. we all know where and how that nickname came about but what we dont know is what he was instructed to do by the qb coach/oc and/or hc both of which were did not exhibit good communications and were out of their league imo.
