Which is odd, because I could swear Rex said the prior regime should be embarrassed to only have the #4 defense in the league with their talent, and he was going to make them #1.

...right before he turned them in to the #19 defense two straight years...

I'm completely convinced that if we had just kept the guy responsible for that mediocre #4 defense we might very well have made the playoffs the last two years.

  2. How the fan base is supposed to have hope without a QB prospect I have no idea

This question is only valid if you completely ignore what actually happened last season.

Go back and review the games. Watch the defense give up 200+ yards to multiple RB's. Watch them blow massive leads. Then keep in mind for half the season Taylor didn't have his best WR. For God sakes, at one point in the season he was throwing to practice squad players. A fact which allowed opposing defenses to crowd the line of scrimmage and the Bills still managed to be the best running team in the NFL.

The only way your question is valid is if you ignore the reality of what actually happened last season. Rex Ryan was an awful coach, his defense was putrid.

  3. Another dumb front office move that will keep us out of the playoffs. Not only did we give up a top-tier back up, we gave him up to the Pats, our arch nemesis. Once again the Pats buy low. Mark my word - Gillislee will rush for 1200+ yards and contend for the league lead in rushing this year...

Gillislee had 50 rushing yards when he started in place of McCoy. Shady gets 50 yards falling forward.

    We'll be fine.

  4. You could get Howard and you get a slightly slower version of Williams with more power and better blocking.

I'm not a draft expert but I know if you have Sammy, Clay, Howard, Shady, Tyron and Listenbee over the top you'd better have good, big nickle corners and you'd better have a lot of them. That's a lot of speed and a **** ton of field to have to cover.

  5. Think about this for a minute. If they go big with 2 TE's, WR, RB, FB then they really don't need to worry if Watkins is injured. They can just plug someone else in there or go with 3 TE's. They are much bigger than WR and will be a lot harder for corners to cover. It's brilliant. TE's cost less than WR as well. BRILLIANT!

I think McDermott and Dennison are about creating economical mismatches. It's easier for a CB to cover a fast 5'10" receiver like Goodwin but hard for them to cover a 6'6" monster with speed. Problem is, those WR's are super expensive. 6'6" TE's that are 260lb are easy to find, cheap to get and hard to cover.

They could very well be building a very different type of offense.

  6. Good post. Interesting. I'm guessing drafting a nickle CB that is fast and tackles well will be high on their draft priorities.

Eric and Cover 1 is the real deal. He's forgotten more about scheme and technique than most people know.

If you're not following him on Twitter you should be.

He might change the atmosphere in the room and on the field, and he can curse everyone out if he wants to, but he ultimately can't make any player do anything. Change in play has to come from the player. Change in life has to come from the person.

Dareus has been in multiple Pro-Bowls; has been All-Pro. Going back to 4-3 will probably get us back to the Dareus we saw before Rex.

There may be a lot of truth in this. It wasn't a secret that Marcel didn't like Rex's system. He doesn't like being a space eater.

  8. Dont dismiss what a coach like this will have on Shaq Lawson either

He's going to turn Shaq into a killing machine!

I can just imagine the first discussion with Jerry Hughes "Son, you're a !@#$ing penalty machine and every time you commit a stupid ass penalty you hurt this !@#$ing football team. You will either un!@#$ your head or the next down you play will be in Cleveland."

My Jerry Sullivan question for McDermott would be:

"Will you be using the same methodical approach of evaluation that brought you to the conclusion that Josh Norman was only good because he was in YOUR scheme."

Greggo exuded the same confidence in his process.

Then he hired a bad staff and the next thing you know he's got the hated fat guys on his DL and he'd lost control of his D to Dick LeBeau.

Gailey needed to take an entire SEASON to evaluate his personnel.

We've seen some doozies Dermott McSean......your "I know what a winner looks and tastes like" is just BS rhetoric if you don't show US what a winner looks like.

This really isn't fair, it wasn't McDermott's decision to let Norman walk.

  10. Had a convo with Skooby about his new BMW, that is definitely worth more than my house, and that's when he told me about McDermott. Said he got word from "sources deep within" OBD..... LOL!!! Nah, seriously though, as soon as he interviewed the first time I just knew it would be him.

Wow that's going back a while.
Not quite as far as spear chucking challenges but still a ways back.
