I don't believe it actually, but a lot of you do and are seemingly fine with it.  I can only hope that the lack of uproar over the pathetic WR group doesn't affect the FO and they decide they can get away with rolling this mess out.

I believe the "lack of uproar" stems from Beane's statements and a general understanding of the current cap situation, realizing that Beanes hands were tied this upcoming season.  Now you could make a case that an uproar should be made over how the Bills got themselves into this cap situation in the first place.

This maybe a reach, but I think they would have.

We know that the Bills had Coleman higher than McConkey, Mitchell, Legette, Worthy, and Pearsall.  If they didn't they would have taken one of Worthy, McConkey, Legette or Pearsall at 28 (or 32) instead of trading down (twice).  So let's say for arguments sake that the Bills don't make the trade and draft Coleman at 28.

Dallas and Baltimore don't take a WR.  Dallas didn't grab a WR until the 6th round and Baltimore stole Tez Walker in the 4th.  We know SF didn't want Legette, McConkey and Coleman. That leaves one question, would they have taken Worthy over Pearsall?  That's the real question.  Given how the 49ers went somewhat off the board by drafting Pearsall with Legette, McConkey, Coleman, & Mitchell available, I believe they had Pearsall ranked ahead of Worthy as well.

By way the NFL had a draft grade of 6.4 on McConkey, 6.35 on Mitchell, 6.32 on Pearsall, 6.29 on Worthy, 6.26 on Legette, and 6.25 on Coleman

Given this back drop, it seems to me that KC would ended up with Worthy anyway.  I'm therefore glad Beane stuck to his guns, traded down and added the 3rd rd pick.

Maybe, who knows.  But KC liked him enough to not take that chance.  For whatever reason the Bills didn't grade him out as high as KC did or he would be a Bill now.

    This.

It's about every year. That's their goal, as they've said many many times. They want to be competitive every year.

And there's every chance they'll be competitive this year as long as Allen is healthy.

They did this because based on their board and how the draft fell, they felt this was the most effective use of their picks. Doesn't mean anyone else has to agree. But that's what they thought.

That's what the Bills have been the past few seasons and from a business perspective it has worked out well for them. They can get the new stadium, probably have enough interest to sell PSL's.  Competitive makes great business sense.  It can cost a lot to take a shot at the superbowl.

Beane wasn't the GM for the Mahomes trade.

My wish as a Bills fan is that this trade goes well for the Bills and bad for the Chiefs.

A Worthy bust along with Pick #133 coupled with 2 Buffalo Bills stars at #33 and #95 would be awesome!

A football fan's hope springs eternal.  Can't wait for tonight!

Yup and if there was a vote thread then I suspect it would be the same as this one.  More than half liking it, "trust the process", and so on.  In these situations generally one side loses and one wins, and often it takes a few years to figure out which is which.  KC won the last one.  Hopefully the Bills come out on top this time.

I marginally like the decisions last night. Getting a 3rd while still putting yourself in a enviable position (#33) to trade down again. Yes we lose the 5th year option but besides a qb or pass rusher it wouldn't have mattered. Now if we don't land at least Franklin/ Mitchell or both, then the decision last night will be an embarrassment. And if Worthy hits in KC, the gnashing of teeth among the Mafia will go on forever. Alot rides on today and Worthy busting.

Particularly every time he burns the Bills deep ;)

Most KC fans I saw couldn't believe they traded up for a guy they could have easily gotten at 32.

I presume KC did a risk/reward analysis and thought what they gave up for the trade warranted pulling the trigger. They must not have been as confident Worthy would still be around at 32 as the KC fans you saw.

  6. The Bills didn't grade any of the WRs as 1st round. KC disagreed to the point of trading up to get their guy. I suspect all the QBs going so early made their guy available at 28 and they jumped on it.

The ESPN talking heads were puzzled by the Bills move, particularly with KC being the dance partner and both teams needing WR help. But Beane must think he can get 2 WRs in the 2nd that he likes at least as much as Worthy.  Many were/are calling KC the big winner of that trade, but that ultimately won't be decided for some time.

I personally didn't like it last night, still not crazy about it.  If it wasn't KC, and if the whole Mahomes thing never happened, I might think differently.  But ultimately Beane could be right. Only time will tell.

Hiring Lindy might have had a nostalgia component but he's no "stunt." He had success in New Jersey and Dallas. He was on the staff that won Canada the gold medal at Sochi. He's ranks 5th in all time coaching wins. He's going to drastically change the locker room culture.

3 out of the last 8 seasons in the playoffs isn't exactly stellar, particularly when you consider he had more player talent to work with there than here.  However, it is 3 more times than the Sabres made the playoffs during that time period.

And there are a lot of hard core fans excited by the hire expecting "drastically change the locker room culture" as you do which helps sales and general fan morale.

Plus it's hard to argue the move isn't an upgrade.  But it's also hard for me to believe it makes a big difference to the team overall and isn't only a short term, primarily feel good, Band-Aid.

Selling the Sabres means the team moves. No one will pay what the Sabres are worth to keep the team here. Not when Houston and Atlanta want teams.

13 years of sucking and being the development team for the rest of the NHL.  .  And the response is a PR stunt head coach.  I don't think Pegula has it in him to do right by the team or the fans. So if that's what happens, so be it.

Makes zero sense to me.  Can't believe the Pegula's have money issues.

Doing that doesn't automatically mean he has money problems.  His wife is not well and his daughters tennis career is in full swing so maybe he wants to start easing into retirement.

Personally I wish he would sell the Sabres outright.

The part that confuses is me is the compensation.  We get a 2nd Round Pick... but not until next year.  We do save some cap from his contract... but also next year, while taking on a big dead-cap hit now.  This adds up as a team willing to get worse in 2024, in exchange for the opportunity to be better in 2025.  It doesn't look like a team hoping to compete for a Super Bowl again.

Beane was just on the news here and his statement was Josh was aware of the possibility of the trade but was not consulted or informed of the trade until after it was over.  Also he made the statement the trade was made in the "long term best interest of the Bills".

With or without Eichel, the Sabres stunk/stink on ice.

13 years of no playoffs (as soon as they get eliminated this season).  A record.  And if you watch NHL and pay attention, it is sickening how many ex sabres are doing well elsewhere.  How could they not stink.

Why does it? They could DVR and go out for pizza like you do. Perhaps they will prefer it to going to the stadium as well.

The point is, they are being forced into that because the NFL owners do not want to pay for their own place of business. If they like the end result doesn't matter.  Plus some, maybe most, would prefer the stadium experience if that's what their families have been doing for generations.

    Agreed.

When I said #1, I meant one league in a single country.  FIFA is in over 200 nations and 700 Leagues and yet the NFL is right behind them in total revenue….pretty wild.

And would also imply they could/should pay for their own places of business instead of charging their fans up front? :)

A little dramatic.  Every business is affected by their bottom line.

So anyone who buys a PSL is getting blindly and stupidly raped?

You have your right and opinion to not like it and also not go.  But since the NFL continues to grow and this is supply meets demand again…and the NFL has no reason to change.

I am not going to like paying more but I understand it is what it is.  I bring my son up there every year and this won’t stop me from doing it.  Plane tickets, hotels and game tickets are expensive for me but I will continue to do it because its worth it to me.

If its too financially hard on you, it sucks, I really do feel bad for you but this the result of something that is the biggest sport in the world revenue wise.

Agree about the bolded 100%.  It's great that you can afford it, and that you and your son enjoy the experience enough to take the price increase in stride. It's not financially hard on me. Like you I could afford it as well.  But the experience for me is not worth anywhere near the cost of the day at the Ralph.  We stopped going in person several years ago.  Now for the 1pm starts I record the game, and I have software that skips the commercials automatically on playback. So my family spends Sunday afternoons doing what we like, then we get pizza and all meet up to watch the game in 90 minutes or so while eating dinner.

What I feel bad about are the fans that have managed to afford seasons for their families for years, now needing to find or get a loan for a pretty large lump sum payment that does nothing but help finance the Biils new stadium rather than the NFL, which as you say is the "biggest  sport in the world revenue wise" (it's actually 2nd behind soccer, but close), financing it.   That just leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

Isn’t it funny that the person who gloated the most about their wealth is having the biggest issue with extra fees?

Most who have "considerable wealth" didn't get there by blindly and stupidly allowing themselves to get raped by businesses.

They had a small business owner on the news here recently who has 8 box seats seasons, has had them for years.  His ticket rep told him the PSL for him would be $400K, which his business could not afford.  The owner asked if there was some kind of discount available and was told no.  The choice was to pay or give up some or all of the seats. The rep did offer up the contact info for a place to take out a loan (from which I suspect the Bills get a kickback).

That's what the NFL has come to, pricing themselves out of reach to blue collar fans.  The NFL has shown its insatiable greed for some time now, but I (probably stupidly) was expecting more from a team in a blue collar town like Buffalo.

    As do the teams themselves.

Bottom line, if you don't like it don't pay.  That's all the NFL cares about quite frankly, when it affects their bottom line.

  17. There will always be a-holes in any decent sized group. Fans treating Bass like this, fans in the stadium and lots verbally abusing and threatening opposing teams fans, even kids.  But they are very VERY much the minority.  And I have also seen true Bills fans step in to help try and correct the wrong.

I am beyond tired of the national hand-wringing about that play.  It was THERE.  I've actually heard fans argue that what Allen SHOULD have done is to just keep picking up small chunks, and then score a TD with just a few seconds left on the clock.

As though you can script something like that perfectly.  Then there is a holding penalty, or sack, or turnover, or you just can't get in the endzone.  Allen saw Shakir wide open for 6, and he went for it.  And, as we all know, if Chris Jones gets there a half second later, that's a TD and we're likely up by 4.

I'm like, is that the best that you've got, Allen haters?  The guy plays a great game, should have had at least 100 more yards and another TD if his receivers could hang onto the ball - and you're saying "same ol' Allen" because he went for an OPEN TOUCHDOWN.

And I hope Mahomes throws 3 picks this week so we can all see the double-standard.  It won't be nearly as analyzed and dissected.

It's not a matter of scripting, but awareness.  Have you ever seen a player intercept a pass but rather than score, take a knee about 5 yards from the end zone so that the offense can run out the clock rather than allow the other team the ball again?  Awareness.

Look, Josh is a baller all day long no doubt and I'm glad he's a Bill.  But a MVP also has that awareness of the game situation.

    1. The Bills kept him on the roster for something, the feel good award for the NFL to tout is something.
    2. He did do one relevant thing on the field this season, he was instrumental in "the fake punt" after all.
    3. Keeping him around this season qualified him for the NFL pension plan.

At the end of the day he was a player on a team, and it's probably impossible to come back any farther than near death on the field.  Let the guy have his full 15 min of fame (and his pension).

Somehow, this season, a lot has changed.  I’m still a fan, I look forward to every game, and I’m thrilled when the Bills win.  What’s changed is that I’ve gotten more or less non-judgmental.  I don’t think much about why some play didn’t work, and I don’t think much about who’s to blame.  If the Bills win, great.  If they lose, I feel bad for the players, but I tend to let it go.  My attitude is sort of like watching my ten-year-old kid’s game – great if they win, sorry for my kid if he loses.

I don’t how this transition happened, but I definitely seem to have entered a new stage to my fandom.  And it’s nice.

Well written as always.  Your new Zenlike attitude to your fandom is a much smarter, and infinitely healthier (mentally in particular) way to be IMO. Congrats :)
