I've done it a couple times but you really need to be careful about where you park to make sure you can get out.  I'm sure there are other ways but each time I've done it I parked out at the ECC lot, walked with a distinct purpose after the game, gone left onto Southwestern (there is usually a traffic cop that opens a hole for you), immediate right onto Brompton, right onto McKinley.  Depending on how you are doing at that point you can either roll McKinley to Milestrip and go left on Milestrip and then over to the I-90, or you can go McKinley to Lake, Lake to Rt 5, Rt 5 to the 190. 190 South to Elm Exit, take Elm to the Kensington and then on to the airport. That way you miss the Thruway which gets funny sometimes.  It's not the most direct route, but it will be moving and is very unlikely to jam up on you.  The way I do it from McKinley if I'm really felling prickish or if people leave early and the traffic gets crap quickly or if the game runs very long is to make a left off McKinley into the Wegmans parking lot then make a right into the plaza to the right of the Wegmans and keep going. All the parking lots of the strip centers are attached and you can go all the way through and come out by the Home Depot at a traffic light on Milestrip that will let you make a left and skip an absolute ton of stopped traffic then get on the 90.  It's a dick move but a missed plane is no bueno and I'm sorry but sometimes you need to do what you need to do.  If McKinley is screwed and I can't go the other way that's a bailout.

Other helpful tidbits, pack light if possible and don't try to check bags, make sure you can do a carry-on. It speeds up the process.  Have everything in the car with you at the game, no going back to a hotel, go directly to the airport.  Also, if you have TSA precheck it helps with the airport line.  There are a couple flights that leave at that time and it sometimes backs up.

    What else ya got folks?

Those are usually the last flights out on Sunday night.

Yes, never ever ever park in one of the main stadium lots. Ever. and if you park in a private lot make sure they don't block you in.

All of this. I’ve been doing the ATL/BUF game trip for 20 years, and the one time I flew out on that Sunday PM flight it was really tight. You should be okay if you follow the advise above. Be ready to walk out of the game the moment the clock hits zero. I’d even watch the last min or two from the tunnel.

  2. Are you serious? My definition of being a "good fan" is being in your freaking seat to watch the game. Pacing around the concourse is what my Mom does at baseball games. It's not what a real sports fan does.

Have you been to the stadium? It's designed so you can watch the game from various viewing platforms while hanging at the bar. It's really cool actually. I watched a drive from one while I was ordering beer. I don't know the exact number of areas that are like this, but I'll guess there's about 50 areas, with four of them being very large that can accomodate hundreds of people.

So no, it's not a bunch of people wandering the concourse.

  3. The game was a sellout. A lot of people socialize in the concourses and hit dozens of new bars, viewing platforms, etc. All of those places have views of the game. Just because people aren't in their seat doesn't team they're not passionate or not there. The "Atlanta is a bad sports town" story is stale and frankly not accurate.

  4. What they said. White pants with those red jerseys would look great.

I'm fine with red once in a while, but wear white pants next time.

White pants not only would have saved us color blind folk a whole lot of frustration, but they would look like the old Patriots uniforms, that I love. (It's so appropriate that I hate the evil empire unis they have since they have become just that)

  5.

It's fun to watch everyone speculate. IMO, this is really about them still not knowing who the QB is and deciding to give EJ a shot. The idea that they're having EJ play so they don't show their cards with the actual starter running the show is crazy. New QBs, new system, new coaches... If the starter had been decided he'd be playing the majority of the snaps this weekend. The benefit of practice reps far outweigh the element of surprise for one game.

  6. Yoga.

    and breath

its the posting that drive us old farts nuts.

do we have a picture tweet with him having a few beers to compare notes ?

    No.

because he is a PotHead !

    Hey!

    Don't be.

got a lot of dialogue from this subject.

    Interesting poll via opinion.

never take this place too serious. when you frame it around your children you have made it a personal thing for you.

Its just a media blip for most in this fast paced age of interconnectivity.

Honestly i thought the picture turned out a poor choice. But i am willing to bet it was not meant as any flaunting.

As our Kids will do we hope/help them learn. I bet he has no idea the possible spin from such a picture.

    As proven out here.

    ; )

    👍
  7. If he is getting stoned and watching nba playoffs hit me up Sammy. My kind of party. Wooo

If it's hookah then the OP is beyond hilarious with his message to the kids angle. If it was Garth Brooks instead of hip hop playing would it be better for the kids ? 10 sec vid let's all go nutso!

I thought long and hard about how to respond to this. Many layers here. All I can say is I'm a parent and I wouldn't want my kid watching that. I guess it's a matter of perspective, and it's subjective to a degree.

I don't understand the folks that can completely dismiss this as a non-issue, but I respect your opinion. Clearly it's worth discussing or we wouldn't have so much chatter on the subject.

    :wallbash:

    ?

Come on. I feel like this is just piling on. I know what a blunt is. It doesn't look like a friggin cigar. It looks likes a fat paper joint. Just stop.

    Apologies for starting this tread.

  8. to be fair, some of their confusion may be coming from your referring to marijuana hookah/bongs. if it was a video of him smoking a cigar would you be arguing they cant tell the difference between a legal cigar and a marijuana cigar?

I've never smoked marijuana out of a cigar.

  9. I commented this to someone who called out Sammy on FB for setting a bad example for kids. It's kind of funny because Jack Eichel had a clip put out on social media of him clearly drunk and downing another beer and saying "I'm coming for you, Buffalo!" Eichel is 18, or maybe recently turned 19. Haven't heard much if anything about that, though hockey is obviously not as popular mainstream as the NFL. But Sammy is 22 I believe, so he can legally smoke tobacco and drink beer and it shouldn't be a big deal. The people who think this sets a bad example for kids are the ones who don't realize how perceptive children are and likely view them as somewhat mindless sponges that don't have the ability to think for themselves.

Let's not turn this into Hookahgate.

Isn't this off topic? I thought this was a Bills board, not a Sabres board.

Kidding. It's a fair point. FWIW, the Eichel video is a problem too. I'm guessing there were plenty of people who thought it sent the wrong message.

I guess I'm just old. I think smoking of any kind is bad for people, and I hate to see someone that is looked up to glorifying unhealthy behavior.

And, I have two young kids, so I know they can think on their own. If they saw this video, they would think he was doing drugs because young kids clearly won't be able to tell the difference between a legal hookah hit and a marijuana hookah/bong. One of the kids owns a Sammy Watkins jersey, so yeah, it sends the wrong message.

  10. No it didn't. The early posts here were suggesting Sammy was smoking pot and that's somehow bad.

My point was that you'd be amazed at how many guys in the NFL, despite being elite athletes who rely on well developed cardio-vascular systems for a living, smoke pot.

And for the record, a hookah does not look anything like a water bong or anything close to it.

In this case, its definitely bad. Players get suspended for smoking weed. I personally have no issues with weed, but we're not the NFL. And even if he's not smoking weed, it looks like he might be, and the old crusty guys are definitely going to be ordered up a random drug test on Sammy. He was dumb to bring that attention on himself.

Hookah pipes you can smoke flavored tobacco out of it, in fact there are many bars and lounges that will sell it to you like that as it makes for a good smoke. It's more than likely it's that. Even if it's weed who gives a **** as long as he isn't driving.

The guy's been busted for weed before. This brings attention to him, and possibly a drug test from the NFL to make SURE it's not weed. That's why we should give a ****. On the chance that smoked a little weed lately, this hookah post could trigger some testing events that could result in discipline.
  11. I think you'd be surprised. Out of curiousity - how old are you? I don't mean it as a knock but it's a pretty common activity among young generations. It's legal, in moderation it's no risk.... If a kids getting into weed (is that the concern? Or cigarettes?) odds are he's familiar with what hookah is.

I'm in my 30's. And I've actually tried it. It's fine. It's the perception of what he's doing, not the reality of it, that concerns me. (It looks like a weed bong incase that wasn't clear about my opinion)

i dont care what they do i dont need it flaunted

heck i m blitzd right now! purple crush

    Lol

  12. It still isn't the athlete's problem (without sounding harsh). If they are not breaking any rules and are in their homes I don't see the problem. This is much less of a concern to me than the fight that they were in at the bar a few weeks ago. In the social media age kids see a lot more bad stuff than 20 years ago.

Agree. I just wish he wouldn't have put it out there on social media.

When I see a thread like this on this message board it reminds me that many grown men are strangely infatuated with professional athletes' lives in the way that many women are with real housewives or the bachelor.

    .

You couldn't be more off on this one, but I see what you're doing here.

  13. If kids are taking their messages from NFL players we are in trouble.

I agree, but there are so many kids without a strong family support structure that see this kind of stuff and run with it.

i don't know... Seems ok to me. He's sitting at home doing something legal. He's in excellent shape so I doubt he does it a lot. But it's much better than smoking pot, drinking/driving, etc. Things you can actually get in trouble for. Seems like he's not doing anything wrong. As long as kids know what it is (if they are old enough to be on social media they probably do) I guess it's fine.

That's the key for me. If everyone knows what that is, it's fine. But most don't.
