  1. Gabe Davis's strength is his ability to track and secure the long ball. In the Bills scheme, I don't know if that is or isn't the most important characteristic for their number two receiver. I will say this, I think the Bills miss two elements in their passing game; a Beasley-type slot receiver and a reliable tight end.

Covering two gaps and tackling a player in space is all at the same time is not a "basic football fundamental"

I don't have a replay, but from what I recall Tre had a clean shot but resorted to a poor arm tackle attempt.

So you're perspective is putting your players in harder positions to succeed is less of a concern.

White was covering two gaps.  As a coach, you want that?

The alignment is the bigger issue.

White, who should have made the tackle, but was also put in a tough spot covering two gaps in that instance.

This is where we disagree. From my perspective, you can have your defense in the ideal alignment, but if you can execute the basics, like tackling, the alignment doesn't matter very much.

Yea but it wasn't the root cause of the play. That was like your backup generator failing after someone forgot to switch the main generator on.

This is where we differ. From my perspective, if you can't perform the basic football fundamentals, there isn't an alignment that will help you succeed.

Correct but as I said straight away in the GDT thread a running back running off tackle should never have the corner be the only man in contain or the first contact. There was clearly an alignment mistake.

Bernard got better at liming them up as the game went on. It is where no pre-season hurts him.

Alignment mistake or not, what should never happen or not, the play would have been a non-event had White not whiffed on making the tackle. DB's tackle RB's at every level of football, including the NFL.

  5. I would agree with Josh that he lost the game for the Bills with his poor decisions. However, that being said, I don't think we will face a better defense than the Jets. You have to give Joe Douglas credit, he's built a defensive roster that might be the best in the league. I'm sure I'll get some arguments from 49ers fans.
