  1. The Bills defense has been playing with 45% of its opening season starting roster unavailable. I'm familiar with the adage "next man up". But typically the next man up isn't as good as the player he is replacing. That's why I'm tipping my hat to Frazier and his staff. GO BILLS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I disagree with all the takes that it was such a bad call.  At the goal line, the safest play is the QB sneak.  Most teams use it at that field position.  If executed properly, all you have is the exchange from Center to QB, who just has to fall forward to get a yard.

If we had a Derrick Henry, which we don’t, you could give it to him.  With all the players crowded into that small area, taking a snap, turning and handing off to a RB is more risky.  The QB could be tripped, like happened to Cousins twice, the handoff to the RB could be messed up or a defender would have time to shoot thru and nail the RB in the end zone.  The QB sneak is the better option to gain a yard and move out from the end zone.

Regardless of the play call, the problem was the QB/center exchange.   It was cold and wet out there.  Who’s to say a shotgun snap wouldn’t have gone awry?

From my perspective, I think Josh came to the line and saw that the Vikings had stacked the middle. It appeared to me Josh was going to run to the gap on his right. He was so anxious to get there that he didn't secure the snap.

  4. Before the beginning of the season, most NFL analysts were saying that the AFC West was the dominant division in the AFC. However, based on team records through week 9, the AFC East has immerged as the premiere division in the AFC. You have to tip your hat to Joe Douglas, Chris Grier, and  Bill Belichick for improving their teams to such a high level that they can now compete with the Bills. Each improved their team in their own way, Douglas through the draft, Grier through free agency, and Belichick through scheme. Based on the first nine weeks of the season, it's very likely 3 teams from the East will make the playoffs. That being said, I would expect every division east match-up going forward to be a playoff-caliber event.  Beane and McDermott have done a great job in putting us at the lead of this pack. And the improved competition will only make the Bills better and more prepared for the playoffs. Even better, this new order is great for all four fan bases. GO BILLS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have thought a minute, to have a bell cow running back, you have to give him touches.

    Henry 166 carries

    Barkley 163 carries

    McCaffrey 111 carries

    Taylor 107 carries

    Kamara 95 carries

    Singletary 71 carries

Who knows how much better (or worse) Singletary would be if the Bills doubled his carries.

As far as deleting Allen's strengths, for every carry you give to the running back you have to take away a passing play.

Ok, I give up. Let's not bring in an RB for which opposing defenses have to game plan for.  It's better to keep the level of our RB" just adequate so not to introduce an additional threat to defenses. Let's all hope Josh doesn't ever miss a game.

I don't think it's the quality of running back, I think it's more of the way the team uses their running back corps. As long as each individual running back only gets a hand full of carries per game, and as long as the team values a receiving running back as much as they do, I don't think a running back will be able to "showcase" his talent as a potential bell cow kind of guy.

They have built the team around Allen's strengths, and every time he hands the ball off to a running back, he reduces the number of times he can pass the ball.

Think a minute. You are not deleting any of Allen's strengths. You are adding an additional strong component to the offense that opposing defenses have to game plan for. It enhances Allen.

IMHO, as long as the team is constructed to be a "pass first" team I don't think we will ever get that dominant running back of which you speak. Josh is that guy who opposing teams have to account for as the "running back" who will spoil your day when a play breaks down (I just wish they'd cut down on the designed QB runs with the exception of an occasional QB sneak when appropriate).

I saw a meme somewhere, and I'm just too lazy to look it up to see if it's true, that the Bills are the only team in the NFL that has gained 100+ yards on the ground in every game this season. If that is in fact true, our running game is just fine.

It's not that difficult. Do a little research and see how many RB's, that fit what I'm speaking about are drafted in rounds two through five. I think Beane will do it. GO BILLS!!!

  8. I believe the Jets view this game with the Bills as their milestone game year to date. That being said, I think this will be the most physical game the Bills will have played so far this season. If Zack Wilson plays like he did last week against the Patriots, he will take the wind out of the Jet's sails and the Bills will crush the Jets. If Wilson manages to play well, this game will be closer than the current spread. My take;  Bills 27  Jets 23. GO BILLS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If I am the Bills, I have my eyes on two players and would honestly be trying to get them both...

Trade for Hunt and then sign OBJ.

I am a big believer in Devin, but Hunt is a top 5 RB as a full time starter.  He is a true 3 down RB who is a great runner and receiver but can also pickup tough yards between the tackles.  Him as the lead and Devin rotating in would an excellent 1-2 punch.  OBJ is depth and insurance and even if not full speed, is at least better than McKenzie or Kumerow.

I would bring both in because both help our football team, but more importantly, we would also be keeping them from a team we might face in the playoffs or Super Bowl.

But let me be clear...and I am supremely confident in our team as is.  I do not think we MUST make these moves, or any moves.  This is more about how both these trades makes sense in both helping our roster be even better and prevents competitors for the SB this year from getting better.

I doubt Kim Pagula would sign off for Hunt.
