  1. Seymour doesn't show up for the physical=failed physical. Accept it. You see, there's a reason why teams trade players to places they want to go, because otherwise THIS is what happens. Sorry.

Actually, if he simply refuses to take the physical, as opposed to failing it, he will not get credit for this year, and he will be under contract with the Raiders next year instead of being a free agent. The Patriots are in the process of getting much younger and faster. Going into the 2010 draft they are set up with a first and 3 seconds, and in 2011 they will have 2 firsts (with one probably a top 5). The reason they wanted a 2011 1st instead of 2010, is because the NFL is expecting to have some form of rookie salary structure in 2011 making a top 5 pick much easier to fit in your cap. They are so far ahead of the curve it's scary.

  2. In watching Bills games, it seems clear to me that Edwards does not have the mental toughness to play QB in the NFL. At the first sign of the slightest pressure he throws to his bail out receiver. He does not seems to be able to stand in the pocket, with bodies flying around him, and go through his progressions. If his first option is not open, he dumps the ball off. You combine the inability to stand in the pocket in the face of pressure with a terrible OL, you have the Bills 2009 season. I will be shocked if Edwards is the starter for the entire season.

Also, the DL of the Bills looked terrible. If the ball is not ran right at Stroud, he shows no desire to go after the ball carrier. He looks like a guy that got his contract. Teams are going to run the ball on the Bills all year long, just watch.

  3. I would keep that receipt considering this guy has shown nothing that should get a Bills fan excited. The back of his jersey didn't say "Check Down" on it by chance did it? The second this guy sees any pressure at all, as light as it may be, he throws the ball to his check down option. He does not show the ability to hang in the pocket and go through his progressions. If his first option isn't open, he gets visibly nervous in the pocket. I firmly believe this guy is a bum, and because of this a TO blow up is only a couple of months away.

  4. I'm willing to take wagers as I've been predicting for awhile now that Wood is going to smack Wilfork under the chin strap and go absolutely Dobler on his ass. If Wilfork cheap shots TE, it won't be like it was when JP went down and NO OLman even LOOKED in Wilfork's direction. It'll be different this time. Wilfork will find out in no uncertain terms this isn't Melvin Fowler and Duke Preston lining up against him. We've got three legit uglies from G to G this year and nobody will intimidate them.

    GO BILLS!!!

What is with this love for Wood? Because he does well against the stout Bills D-Line in practice? I don't think Wilfork is sitting up worrying about this guy, especially since Wood was completely mauled by Myron Pryor (the Pats 6th round pick) in college.

  5. I think 95% of the posts I've read on this message board this summer have been negative and down right depressing. I'm not going to call someone out for their opinion or bash someone for not having a good feeling about the season. I know the last nine years have been rough and of course there is obvious reason to lose heart and to stop believing in our Buffalo Bills. It really has become a sad franchise and we have become a sad bunch of 'yesteryear' fans in the process.

That said, I personally choose not to be pessimistic at this point in time. Now is the time of year when we have a right to be optimistic and make bold predictions and dream about making the playoffs and shocking the world! I know there are a lot of questions surrounding this team right now, namely the young/reshuffled offensive line and the question marks on the defensive line/line backing group. However, I'm going to put on my rose colored glasses, will the question marks to turn into a positive and a strength for the team, and I'm going to scream my head off every Sunday win, lose, or draw until the season is over with. And until the Bills are mathematically eliminated from the playoffs, I'm still punching my ticket to the Super Bowl and I hope some of you will join me. This is OUR time and this is OUR year. Dream it, believe it, enjoy it. We ARE going to surprise everyone this year and bounce back with a vengeance. Why not? Each season one or more teams rise out of the ashes and shock the world. We are more than overdue and I say our time is NOW!!

GO BUFFALO!!!! Don't give up though some have given up on you. See you in the playoffs boys!!!!!!!

    John in NC

I think your rose colored glasses need to be a little stronger.

You keep banking on hopeless optimisim, and I'll take reality. Bad OL - bad DL - unproven QB - aging, skills declining, cancer causing WR - suspended RB - weak LB core - weak secondary - etc.

At least the Bills have Fred frickin Jackson. I know Bills fans are very enamored with him.

  6. Um, no. And I'll bet you any amount of money that the Bills don't finish anywhere close to the bottom 1/3.

If the OL is as bad as many expect it to be, the Bills will be well into the bottom 1/3 and T.O. will blow up by November. I don't understand where all of this enthusiasm about the O is coming from. As of right now the Bills have 3 proven producers (Lynch, Ownes and Evans) on the entire offense, and one of them is 35 yrs old and another is suspended for a few games. So you're expecting guys that haven't proven anything to be stellar and T.O. not to age at all. Talk about wishful thinking.

  7. I was breaking it down and looked at it pretty objectively and thought AZ was a close second to us but they do not have the depth at RB like us past Hightower. AZ also has a aged QB in Warner and Trent reminds me of a much younger version of him (Quick thinking / better release time). AZ Wr's are equal to T.O. & Evans in many ways Stat wise as well.

If the line plays hard in the trenches this year / we get a true no huddle dialed in tight, we've got ourselves a multitude of points. I really think that we have our best chance to score ever, that includes the K-gun offenses as well.

    Get your popcorn ready.

You had the 25th ranked O in the NFL last. You have added a 35-36 yr old, skills diminishing, cancer causing WR / you have added a rookie 4th round TE who may or may not start / you have an OL where not a single player is playing where they were last year / and you have a QB that has proven (to this point) to be closer to JP Losman than Jim Kelly. Please explain how this offense is supposed to be so impressive.

  8. The Patriots'* DL is better. I'd even be willing to say their LB'ing corps is better, although no Patriots* fan can be happy with it currently. But the Bills' secondary is better. Springs has been in decline for years and can't stay healthy, Bodden was cut by the lowly Lions (considering your words on Tinoisamoa, you can't think much of Bodden or Lenon), they have no 3rd CB, have no SS, and Merriweather may be a player. Other than that, they have rookies they're counting-in, as do the Bills.

You are right about the Pats LB core. A lot of the success of that unit will depend on the development of Shawn Crable on the outside. Guyton had a solid year in the middle last year, and I would hope he would make the "year 2 jump". Lenon is going to be a role player and no more. He also racked up tackles on a bad D. However, I completely disagree with your assessment of the Bills secondary. I do not think McGee is a very good corner and like I said, Leodis is unproven. I don't think looking at Bodden's last year in Detroit is fair as I don't think any CB could have had success in that D. If you look at his time in Cleveland (while in the same defensive system he will join in NE) he was a stud. He is still young so I think he can get back to that level. As for third CB, T Wheatley was showing solid signs last year and got hurt in the Colts game where he was playing very well. BB was very high on him, and he is very high on this years 2nd round pick D Butler. Wilhite showed signs last year, but is a serviceable player, nothing more. Sanders has been solid, not great, player at S for three years. That is more than I can say for whoever is going to play opposite Whitner. Patrick Chung is going to take over that role to add more speed and explosiveness.

I just don't see where the talent is in the Bills secondary. With a limited pass rush, and the inability of the front 7 to stop the run, I think teams are going to be able to go over the top of the Bills all season long.

  9. Springs is aging and can't stay healthy, and should continue to get toasted by TO as has been the case the past several years. Bodden was castoff by the lowly Lions and was so in-demand, he accepted a 1-year deal from the Patriots*. Merriweather hasn't proven anything and the rest are JAG's or unproven rookies.

Please let me know who has "proven anything" in the Bills secondary. Like I said before, McGee is a quality return guy, but is an avg corner and is typically targeted by the Pats. Leodis is unproven, Whitner does nothing and there is nobody else. If Springs is aging, what is TO doing? At all 3 levels, DL, LB and DB the Pats have better talent. That is why they continue to not only beat the Bills, but crush them. I honestly thought Greer was a better cover guy than McGee. Not sure why they let him walk. Do the Bills even have a 3rd corner considering teams play about half the time in nickel?

  10. Yeah, with that DL and 2 quality LB's, the Patriots* gave up just 2 fewer points per game than the Bills did. Wow! But the problem is that age and injury continue to erode what was once a championship defense (cheating aside). And now they have almost a whole new secondary, filled with castoffs and aging guys.

Curious, who are these castoffs/aging guys in the secondary? The Pats secondary this year should consist of Springs, Bodden, Wheatly, Wilhite, Butler, Meriweather, Sanders and Chung. With the exception of Springs, that is called getting younger and faster. The only guys on their defense that will be considered older for their positions will be Springs and Tedy.

  11. Really. The Pats* are still solid upfront.....................but the further back you go the weaker they get. afcfan1 thinks the Bills will miss Greer...............................I would take any DB on the Bills over the DB's on the Pats*

Bodden and Springs are both better than McGee or Leodis. McGee is a solid KR but nothing special at corner. Leodis had a couple decent games last year, but is not proven by any means. I would take Meriweather over Whitner any day of the week. Whitner was a high draft pick, nothing more. Compare their stats from last year, and let me know the next time Whitner makes a play (except for getting run over by Sammy Morris). I don't know who your other safety is going to be(Simpson?? / Byrd??), but I'll take Sanders over either. The Pats also drafted Patrick Chung at safety and Darius Butler at CB for additional depth.

  12. Good luck with that 3-4 LB'ing corps with Mayo and Thomas, the almost-done Bruschi, and guys like Paris Lenon, an "undersized LB" who "racked up some tackles in a garbage defense."

2 Quality LBs is better than none - Especially when you actually have a D Line in front of them. As a Bills fan, I wouldn't expect you to know anything about having a D Line (or an O Line for that matter).

  13. Yes I have and your going with "I've never heard of him defense?"

The guy is an undersized LB - you already have those. The guy racked up some tackles in a garbage defense. He's not that good and reportedly played last season at under 230lbs. The Bills are going to have one of the worst run defenses in the league next season and this guy will not change that. Combine that with a secondary that lost Greer and replaced him with nobody, this Bills defense should be a doozy.

  14. Edwards was rated in the top 5 QB's in the NFL for the first 4 or 5 games last year. I would say that shows he has displayed the talent and the potential to do it again, for more than 5 games. We shall see this season. He certainly has more weapons to work with.

And he looked like garbage for 11-12 games. Seriously, he may end up being a decent QB, but he hasn't proven to be anything yet.

  15. You may be right, but on the other hand the Pats* have a number of questions as well. Will Brady be the same after a year off? Or will he be RUSTY? Will his knee hold up? The fact that the Giants showed the World the way to beat Brady is to HIT him, then HIT him again, could lead to another injury to Brady & at his age the body takes longer to heal. The Pats* have lost not only Coaches but Pioli. It remains to be seen how well this draft was for them. The years have caught up with the Pats* Defense...............................it is not the defense it was a couple years ago. Finally with all the changes around the league, the film the Pats* had in the vault from cheating will be of much less use. Does Billy dare hire a new camera man? :w00t:

Great plan! The Giants showed the NFL you have to have a D Line that consists of Strahan, Tuck and Umenyiora quality pass rushers. The Bills don't even have 1 player that touches anyone of those 3. No other team in the NFL (including the Giants now) have a D Line like that. The mistake the Pats made in that game was not running Maroney more. He was a beast the 2nd half of that season. The question marks the Pats have are really nothing compared to the Bills. Like I said anything better than 7-9 would be an overechievement for the Bills.

  16. On paper we have one of the better groups of WR's in the National Football League, possibly even the best, especially considering the Arizona Cardinals may lose Boldin. Between Terrell Owens, Lee Evans and Josh Reed, I expect at least one of our WR's to have a very productive, pro bowl type season. Its seems very possible two, or all three WR's could have productive Seasons.

One paper we have one of the better groups of RB's in the league. Between Marshawn Lynch who has already seen the pro bowl in his young and promising career, Action Freddie Jackson who many believe is almost as good as ML, and Dominick Rhodes the new comer who also believes he is starting material in the NFL and understandably so, I expect at least one of our RB's to have a productive season. Its also possible, two, maybe all three running backs could have productive seasons in the run and or passing game, possibly both.

One paper we have one of the better up and coming QB's in the NFL, he topped the league last year in completion percentage and ended the season with a QB rating above 85 despite suffering a severe concussion mid way through the season. With all the pieces finally in place, many weapons to choose from including at the TE position, It is very possible Trent Edwards could have a break out year and finish the season as one of the top rated QB's in the NFL.

On paper we have on of the better defensive backfields in the NFL. Our top two DB's are also return specialist who can bring back an interception for a TD from any part of the football field. Now we are bringing in a ball hawk who specializes in doing just that, intercepting the ball. With Shobel back, the addition of Maybin and in my opinion one of the better LB groups in the league, the Bills defense could go from one of the worse to one of the best defenses in the NFL real quick.

On paper we have in my opinion a real good football team, now its up to the coaching staff to get good results. I realize the team is very young, our O-line has just been overhauled and in some of the key positions we have young, inexperienced players, but on paper make no mistake about it, the Buffalo Bills have enough talent to win football games.

    On paper...

I intentionally did not mention special teams because Booby Aprils squad speaks for itself on paper and on the football field.

On paper this team is 7-9. First it was hype around Fred fricking Jackson, which I found funny. Now the Bills have one of the best WR cores in the NFL. You have the 2nd best WR core in your own division. Josh Reed?????? Seriously. What has Trent Edwards done to show he is anything more than JP Losman? There is a strong chance the Bills O Line could end up being the worst in football. This team would have to overachieve to finish better than 7-9.

  17. What do you know? Another example of nobody outside of Buffalo thinking Fred fricking Jackson is anything other than a JAG. The only above avg player in your backfield is Lynch. Jackson has less than 1000 yds rushing in his career, Edwards has not shown anything and Rhodes is a 30 yr old career backup who's averaged 3.5 yds/carry over the last 4 yrs and can't block a lick. The ranking is justified.

  18. Declining skills? I'll take 69 catches and 10 TDs and over 1000 yards any day from a number 2--and that was with his QB out for 3 weeks and Brad Johnson throwing to him. So far, he's done and said all the right things. Not to say that will continue, but so far, no complaints from me. Beats the heck out of Joey Galloway and Greg Lewis, no? Those were your WR additions. Don't look now, but Randy's due for his tight hammy or some other injury costing him 5-6 games and his explosiveness for the rest of the year--I should know, I've had him in my fantasy leagues those seasons he could never quite gets through all of (in Oakland and Minn, in 2004 and 2006). "He plays when he wants to play", you know--and when things go south, he has a tendency to check out mentally. That was the knock on him once upon a time, wasn't it? If he's changed, why not TO? Especially when there's plenty of cash at stake for good behavior in the form of a one-year deal......

I stopped reading at the Brad Johnson comment. Please explain to me how Trent Edwards is an upgrade over Brad Johnson. I think you really overevaluate the level of talent on your team. Trent Edwards hasn't shown to be anything other than below avg - avg.

  19. There is no team in the NFL, where if Coles and TO were both on the roster, Coles would be higher on the depth chart. It's silly to even discuss it.

Had the Bills signed Coles, it would have been a nice addition to their WR unit. The addition of TO has a chance to be a transformative addition to an offense in need of one.

The problem is the chances are greater that it could completely blow up in the face of the franchise. TO was a problem when he had all of his skills. Now that his skills are diminishing, it's only going to get worse. I seriously can't envision a scenario where this doesn't end badly. When the Bills are eliminated from playoff contention, how do you think he is going to act?

  20. Well Coles was released by the Jets who have a huge need for a WR so how good was he. Now I know Coles is a good WR at the #2 slot but who would you rather have for one year only TO or Coles. Who cares about the money the Bills weren't capped strapped. TO is better than Coles for this one year and TO won't be a cancer because he needs the Bills as a way to tryout for the league next year.

Coles isn't exactly young either he will be 32 by the end of the season.

He's 3.5 years younger than Owens any way you cut it, and he is not a frickin cancer to the extent of Owens. Combine that with the fact Owens doesn't even want to be in Buffalo. Good luck.
