  1. QUESTION: How did Jon Gruden become a quarterback "guru" in the first place? I know this was somehow his M.O. when he was a head coach, that he was thought of as a great West Coast offensive mind and a QB expert.

If I remember correctly, he had success in Oakland with Rich Gannon, who I would hardly say was "groomed" by Gruden...Gannon played through the hard knocks and was a savvy veteran by the time Gruden took over.

In Tampa, Gruden won a Super Bowl with Brad Johnson, yet another savvy vet...

Then had some ups and downs, with the majority of his "ups" occurring with Jeff Garcia under center, who made plays outside of the offense with his legs and veteran experience.

I can't recall one QB that Gruden has himself developed into a quality starter. Am I wrong about this?

Is "GRUDEN AS QB GURU" just a myth that continues to perpetuate itself, even more so now with the force of ESPN behind it???

    Don't forget Favre

Gannon had a crazy good year with gruden, did he before or after I seriously can't remember.

  2. And then he cried, literally, on the bench. This guy is no leader of men in the NFL, is not near ready to play, and probably never will be. I can't wait until the draft is over so we will not have to listen to all the Tebow man-love around here.

Your a moron, so because he cared so much about his last regular season game at Florida he isn't a leader of men? Believe it or not there are still compassionate people out there who are tuff SOBs

  3. exactly what debate are you talking about?

the one where ppl think he's cocky cause he showed up in a limo to natl signing day when he was 17, or the comments he made when he was 17 that ND would win 4 titles, or are you referring to his record in college not being on par with the other top qb in the class (he cant play defense too ya know) Are you referring to the pictures that have been circulated of him in a speedo when he was 17 how about getting attacked by a drunk idiot fanboy, is that his fault, does that reflect on his character--to have some moron attack you.

there is ZERO debate about his talents, none, he couldnt win at ND due to a lackluster defense, but make no mistake about it, clausen is a franchise QB, he's tough, smart, strong, accurate, a charismatic leader, and he works for it. if you have a choice b/t a franchise O Lineman or a franchise QB YOU ALWAYS TAKE THE QB.

clausen improved every yr in a prostyle offense, he learned to check and read coverages, he is without a doubt the most polished QB in this draft class.

Excellent post, i was a skeptic too but then i realized you can be a POS and still be a successful QB so get him.

  4. Idiotic post really? IF we have a good draft. IF we sign some free agents. 2011 u think 8-8? 1st off the bills havent drafted well, nor have they signed any good free agents in a decade.. second u predict itll be 2012 before the bills compete for playoff spot, and at this point how good do u think lee evans will be? Itll be the end of his contract as well as the tail end of his career. you trade him now get his high vaule so that by 2012 we have the players to do well.. Talk about idiotic post.

Im so sick of garbage thinking like this,,, quit responding like we still have the same old regime. If Nix's resume pans out the way we all hope then his "IF" points are valid. If Nix and co fail then you can continue to depress the members of this forum.

  5. I'd like to point out that during the last season in which any semblance of season-long QB competance came out of Buffalo--Losman's 2006 season in which he threw for over 3,000 yards with 19 TDs and 14 INTs (please look past the fact that it was Losman long enough to realize that this was the last halfway decent Bills' QB performance this decade)--Evans caught 82 passes for almost 1,300 yards and 8 TDs...that would have made him a top 10 WR this past year.

I also find it interesting that he even managed to snare 7 TDs in last season's display of miserable quarterbacking, and boasted a YPR (13.9) that ranked ahead of guys like Hines Ward (12.3), Anquan Boldin (12.2), Larry Fitzgerald (11.1), Dallas Clark (11.1), and Wes Welker (11.0), all of whom had what most reasonable folks would consider excellent QBs throwing them the ball. He also had as many TD catches as guys like Austin Collie, both Steve Smiths, Mike Sims-Walker, and Derrick Mason, and had 1 fewer TD as Sidney Rice and Antonio Gates...and did it all while ensnaring a mere 2.8 catches per game.

And this is a person that some of you want to trade away?

Perhaps, instead of trading a guy that can do that with Losman/Edwards/Fitzpatrick-level QB play, Buffalo should focus on getting a QB that can give this guy a chance to do more of what he does.

    Just my 1 cent.

Wow someone with common sense.... thank you sir

  6. Okay, maybe it is just the fact that I miss football, and, despite it all, I love the Buffalo Bills. I have been as sour as anyone here, over the last two seasons, on this team. I am starting to feel a little better about them, but, what you post here, no offense, is complete garbage.

The Bills "stick to their plan" every year, which is, spend as little money as possible, and snooker fans into thinking they are really doing something...don't throw Terrell Owens at me... that was a pointless/useless signing, that I think everyone, except some delusional Bills fans, knew.

"They have impressed me in FA by signing quality affordable depth"- this is the clincher. Somewhere along the lines, Bills fans divided in to two factions...those who are sick of excuses and constant losing, and those who choose to cheer the front office for its' frugal use of Ralph Wilson's money...this particularly galls me. Have we sunk that low, as fans of this team, that we are simply happy to have a team to root for... who cares if they win? Beyond, possibly, Andra Davis (a need I will concede) what free agents have the Bills signed that really impress anyone? Is it the guy who spent his entire NFL career on the practice squads of 4 or 5 different teams, or the guy who spent most of his career on IR, but, provided he doesn't get injured again, could be a decent depth signing.

I will give ownership credit, for what I assume, were honest attempts to sign an established coach, and for going after Donovan McNabb... it is kind of like me asking the captian of the cheerleading squad to be my prom date, but at least I tried... can't fault them there....

Now, what I do like about what the Bills have done... they fired Dick Jauron, and, possibly, the most miserable coaching staff I have ever seen as a Bills fan. It may sound like I am being sarcastic there, but I am not...it is the best move all off season...Buddy Nix, Chan Gailey, etc...that is all firmly in the "let's see some results" category, before I can say they were good moves... I can tell you, I wasn't clamoring for either guy, didn't have either on my short list of desirable candidates for their respective jobs. As time has passed, though, I like that Gailey sounds like a real football coach, and doesn't seem afraid to coach...I like the fact that they are changing defensive schemes....

I agree my man, but the reality of it is half the the things your sick about the FO can't help. This isnt college recruiting it's the NFL where players want to be anywhere but here.

As for the FA debockle, I don't want big name overpaid players it just doesn't make sense to do anymore because it never works!!!! You stick to your guns in the draft. So your whole Give me a break on mediocre FA's is just another state of delusion

  7. You must not watch Pitts play Woodley can't cover either but he sure is a good olb

The OP got it wrong....he will be able to cover rbs and te's, he is as athletic as they come. No one said he was the strongest.....that's why he could not get around guys who weighd 100 pounds more than him.
