We'll only save 100k by cutting Bass and eat $4.32m.  He pry gets another year without competition but if he struggles early in the season they'll bring another guy in.  Maybe they bring in a camp guy but I doubt it.

Agree except I do think there will be a camp leg, if only to be exactly that. Each kickoff is a chance to practice for the new kick return configuration, which is supposed to encourage more returns. And Tyler probably doesn't need to kick every single one. Juggs machine balls just aren't the same.

Well, maybe, as a sentimental pick, but does he really check the necessary box(es) to start.

He seems like a better third WR and he's more of a slot WR anyway, which we already have in Shakir.

There's a reason why he was drafted in the 5th round.  From what I just read, it sounds as if he's not the best route-runner and he doesn't possess any particular speed.  People here would be all over him like white on rice after his first bad game.

welp, to address your concerns, a Curtis Samuel signing should certainly make you feel better! 😅

I didn't foresee any 3 yr/30 million dollar contracts to be allocated to the WR room, but I like it!

    let Josh cook!

could be used like another guy named Samuel over there in SF

in fact, that's kind of what Brady did with him in Carolina in 2020

fun fact: Curtis started at tailback for OSU in 2014 (right after Ezekiel Elliott)

Shakir's a slot WR.  Right now we have no one capable opposite Diggs.  I blame the play-calling and Diggs' use, but if it did happen to be true that his speed/abilities have diminished, Shakir in the slot ain't gonna come close to cuttin' it.

The crying here over Davis' play, LOL, that's going to seem like a bonanza unless we get another WR in here.  We need to be consistent with our analyses and discussions.  IF Davis didn't cut it, and on top of that if Diggs is diminishing, we'll need at least what Davis was simply to get back to the unsatisfactory state that was the majority opinion here.

I'd love to see KJ Osborn sign here, for competition's sake - he'd upgrade our weaponry experience-wise

Still relatively young and was productive despite being an afterthought in Minnesota

Probably wouldn't cost Beane a fortune to sell him on coming in here to catch lasers from Josh

Didn't Daquan Jones also miss the bengals playoff game?

Yes, and not that this was the only reason we lost, but I am sure it didn't help our run D

If you read what I have posted you will see that my only issue has been with the assertion that Jones was playing at an All Pro level and that we could expect that level of play moving forward. Other than that, it’s just people reading what they want into what I wrote. I’m not at fault for that. Feel free to quote anything that I wrote that says otherwise.

I'm good, we actually agree that he's not All-Pro but it's a good signing.

I think he's more important than you is all.

Sacks are one component. We can start there. Jones has 14.5 in his 10 year career.

First, stop trying to reframe my position. I like Jones. He’s a good player and I’m happy he’s back. Stop trying to reframe that as me not liking the re-signing or player.

Now, please defend your statement that he’s been playing at an “All Pro” level. I’m also interested in your expectations moving forward. Do you expect an All Pro level of pay out of him?

YOU have posted on this board taking issue with people who erroneously claim he was "playing at an All-Pro level"

I explained why he hasn't even sniffed that (his sack totals), which you just reinforced above 👆

I have never said he has played at an All-Pro level

And have only said he is a very important piece on our D

You seemed to imply that based on what he signed for, he's not really that good

I think he's a very, very good player in this league at that position

And other than a torn pec, he has been very durable, so I expect that to continue

We both are glad he signed, let's agree on that! 🍻

Well they haven’t drafted yet. Say they add mini Kyle Williams in Fiske from Florida. You know they will trade-up and grab their top end receiver. Say they actually draft or pick a FA S who isn’t playing with 4 injuries every year (like Poyer always was because he weighed 185.)

Last but not least they won’t be paying $17MM to a guy who played 8 of the last 40 games in Tre.(which meant he was being paid twice as much as Josh to not play)

Next year they have cap space and can likely dump Von. They are transforming! I also expect the Knox redo was also meant to set him up for trade next year or possibly even during the draft.

and I really think Terrell Bernard is a big key to stopping the Chiefs, matchup wise

having him and Milano back will be huge

(as compared to playing them in the playoffs with AJ Klein wearing a green dot helmet!)

Except I didn't just focus on his contract. I also mentioned that all of the All Pro talk is based on 4 games against poor competition and centered around his high pressure rate, which is something he's never accomplished before. Then there is the incredibly high standard for All Pro players, which is also something he's never sniffed. I'm not sure why fans here have to take a good situation and try to turn it into something amazing. That's not living in reality.

ok, what is that incredibly high standard, sacks, right?

    {unless you watch that all-22 film, or you are perhaps a D-line coach, or even O-line?}

I'm glad he didn't rack up a ton of sacks, because he'd cost more!

why did Madubuike get all that loot? (hint, 26 yr old DT with 13 sacks!)

we know he's not Chris Jones, or Aaron Donald, who also rack up the sacks & pressures

not sure where Frank Clark comes in, as he is a DE/LB who can sack the QB

all this doesn't mean DaQuon cannot regularly do his job in the middle of our defense (against poor or good competition)

why would you discount his pressure rate, stat guy?

but you are correct, he is not All-Pro status for whatever that point is worth...

I would argue he could sniff it if a few more of those pressures became sacks

amazing signing by Beane, Go Bills! 🙌

No argument on the cap space (as I already mentioned). Again, he’s a good player and I’m happy to have him back. But the All Pro talk is insane - as evidenced by his contract.

you can solely focus on his contract, but it doesn't necessarily prove your point

he's 32 and coming off an injury, that's going to cost you some $

& unlike Floyd, he presumably chose to stay here, which also means a bit less $ wise

in any event, a great job by Beane - kept a very important piece for a manageable number

he and Oliver are a very good tandem

and Beane will likely add a modest FA here and draft a guy as well

if we go with a WR at 28, there still should be talented DTs in round 2

the 2 guys from Texas, Jenkins from Michigan, and the Fla State dude are all possibilities

and I think we have an extra 4th and 5th rounder, so I expect Beane to use those to move up to get someone mid 2nd round

After he left Wyoming, he immediately went to work with Palmer and between that time and draft time his draft stock sky rocketed to where he was even getting first overall consideration.  And it was because of the remarkable improvements he was showing in short windows and wowing during workouts and the combine.  There really was not a period of Josh's career after stepping off the Wyoming field the last time where he wasn't showing significant improvement in short windows.  So, I get what you are saying, but I would still argue that Josh began his ascent when he first started his work with Palmer and that ascent continued at every stage of his career since.

Well there was some talk of JA being at the top of the previous draft class as well (if he came out early). And there's footage of Josh on some podcast telling the story of why he stuck around for another year mainly because he just couldn't look his coach in the eye & tell the only guy who gave him a D1 chance that he was leaving early (along with all of the other offensive talent that was graduating).

But I do agree that his work with Jordan Palmer was very significant in getting him NFL ready & then some. In fact, Palmer was the first guy who really tipped me off to the idea that we may really have a unicorn on our hands... he would often refer to Josh as 'one of the most talented people to ever play the position' and I would say he has been proven correct at this point.

It is easy to say "how bad Josh was" before Morse got here...doesn't mean the correlation is that Morse getting here was the biggest catalyst to Josh's development when Morse joined Buffalo.  Josh was an ascending QB the moment he last stepped off Wyoming's football field.  Nothing against Morse, but some of you are heaping way too much credit onto Morse for Josh Allens development.

What I really meant (and I believe DJB also meant) was how badly Josh was pass protected (from the center position and as a unit) in year one.

I agree, and we all know, that Josh's drive & determination is really the reason that he has become who he is and improved so much from year one to year three.

And I am not sure I agree that Josh was an ascending QB the moment he stepped off the Wyoming field. Josh's ascent was quite an unusual improvement in terms of accuracy... very few QBs get more accurate from college to the NFL - - probably the reason there were so many Bills fans (myself included) who wanted Josh Rosen over him on draft day! 😅

The moment for me that I knew he was special was not "the leap" and underdog 'W' versus the Vikings, it was the home game vs Miami (the Kyle WIlliams game). He was unstoppable!

Morse might be the most important piece on our OL.

It’s why the past 3 years some board members have been calling for him to be cut but it doesn’t happen.

Unless we have a younger but obvious upgrade it makes no sense in releasing Morse

    Agree wholeheartedly!

Let us remember the 🔥tire fire🔥 we had at center in 2018, Josh's first season, when we tried to just cheaply cover the departure of Eric Wood with an incumbent utilityman with limited starting experience at the position (Ryan Groy). Then we tellingly brought in Russell Bodine very late in the preseason, who was not much better.

BBB's first order of business after making rookie Josh scramble for his life was to bring in Morse, who has been rock solid since his arrival here in 2019.

I think we should extend Morse by a year or two to help our current cap situation. And based on last year, we should not in any way mess around with those five starters on that O line for any reason!

The trading away of "Rick" Bates, a potentially more economical replacement as a starting C, seems to indicate this is what BBB is probably planning to do.

I cannot see him coming back but I once thought that about Milano though so you never know.

I agree, you just never know! Nearly everyone assumed Milano was a goner.

Clearly, unless Andy Reid takes a shine to him, Davis would not be going to a team with a comparable at the QB position. Actually, I'd really hate to see him end up there! 😱

It's apparent Gabe has enjoyed playing here with Josh, and as an elected team captain, he is considered a leader in our locker room.

If we somehow kept him on a sweetheart deal, I'd still think BBB would/should draft a WR by round 2 or 3 to add some talent & youth to the weapons arsenal.

This is what we've all seen since day 1 when Josh stepped on a field in a Bills uni. He's always had that "it" factor, his teammates love him, and you know he's going to leave everything on the field. In most instances he walks off the field having led his team to a lead, or put them in position to take it, or at least tie (unless we're already up substantially). Those with a basic understanding of football know he's clutch if they watch him play. The 🤡's on TV can nitpick all they want, and try to claim lesser QB's are better, but the eye test doesn't lie. Josh is not the reason we're out here losing games.

This is probably also why he was in Tiger's group at Riviera during the Genesis pro-am a few days ago. That pairing only happens because Tiger wanted it to happen, which speaks volumes about what he thinks of our guy that wears 17.

Woods probably catches only a small fraction of Bills games, and he sees what we all see. And what an unbelievable experience that had to be for Josh, playing with your idol at the tourney he hosts!

We can't put him in the same sentence as Brady. Not unless he does another decade and multiple rings.

As far as late round QB hit rate, you can. But obviously, Brady is the GOAT.

I am just casting a vote for using mid draft picks on other needs.

Gabbert as a FA would likely cost too much. And based on what they've shown, I want absolutely ZERO to do with Mac Jones and/or Zach Wilson!

Brock Purdy is so interesting to me. In 5 years what we will be seeing from him.

I think it is worth it to get a 3rd or 4th round simply to develop them and recover a comp pick while having a backup QB.

He will only get better working in Shanahan's offense. Realistically, he is nearly as much of an exception as Tom Brady was in the 6th.

And I just don't like the idea of training a guy only to lose him.

  17. 11 hours ago, boyst said:

I'm all for drafting one in the 3rd or 4th. In a draft like this where there isn't a major market for QBs or hot commodity potentials we can take a flier and find a 4 year backup for Josh.

I'd argue we need those type of picks for many other positions, not for potential backups who we don't even want to have to use for 4 years. Maybe take the flier if someone falls closer to Brock Purdy/Mr. Irrelevant territory.

The thing about 1st Round QB "busts" is that they at least have traits or tools that made them a First Rounder.

Anyone we get to play Backup QB here isn't going to inspire anyone.

Which is why unless the Bills just extend Kyle A, I for one would gladly welcome Mitchell Trubisky back to the squad.  He seemed to enjoy it here, and isn't going to command any compensatory picks or a salary anywhere near what Pittsburgh just paid him. He'll likely not get much interest elsewhere to come in and compete for a starting job. In theory, he could lay down some roots here as a backup.

Barkley, Trubisky, Keenum, Kyle A, the Bills have shown they value having a veteran in that role. And he'd obviously be a good fit with Josh, has plenty of experience, has good mobility, get 'er done Beane!
