  1. You would. Perhaps I would too. But in the NFL, it JUST... DOESNT... HAPPEN.

Of course you can! The point is that white coaches generally get more opportunities to succeed (and more opportunities to fail) than their black counterparts.

Lovie had to produce big-time in order to justify his tenure as head coach, make no mistake about it:

    - When he took the team to the Super Bowl in 2006, he signed a 5-year extension and it was well-deserved.

    - In 2010, there was a lot of talk of him being on the hot seat and he responded by taking his team to the championship game. He got a 2 year extension after that. Of course the Bears gave him an opportunity and Lovie produced with that opportunity.

On the flip side, how about Gary Kubiak in Houston? His first 5 seasons went as follows:

    6-10

    8-8

    8-8

    9-7

    6-10

Yet he was given 2 contract extensions during this time, allowing him to continue with the team and has since produced records of 10-6 and 12-4. Not talking about quotas, not advocating reverse discrimination of any kind, just merely suggesting that black coaches don't have as many opportunities to be a head coach and when they are given the opportunity, they generally have a shorter leash, barring a Super Bowl or conference championship appearance.

Yeah and Romeo Crennel was 24 and 40 his first four seasons and got a second chance. Sorry man Im just not buying it. I think you are making too many assumptions about people you have never met.

Fair enough. Lovie's firing is a matter of opinion and the reasons you state are valid. I think that the reasons not to fire him are valid too. Marvin Lewis and Tomlin are great examples that other teams ought to follow. The point is that these examples are few and far between. Perhaps part of it is that black coaches have skewed toward the defensive side of the ball and the trend now is to hire offensive coordinators. Ultimately, though, I think guys like Fewell deserve an opportunity and hope that they get it.

The ironic part was I wanted Lovie Smith here! I think we will see an upward trend continue as more black coordinators move through systems. This offseason was more circumstance in my opinion.

Lovie Smith had a loaded roster for the majority of his time with the bears. They have also brought in multiple high priced stud free agents. What they got in return was 3 playoff trips out of 9 seasons and 1 out of the last 6. Not good enough if your color is purple orange blue etc.

    How about MARVIN LEWIS?

  3. I don't think it's ridiculous at all. We're not talking about overall team performance, we're talking about individual QBs and their impact. Peyton elevated a pretty mediocre team to one that was a perennial playoff participant and eventual SB champion. Brady took a 16-0 team to the SB against a 6-loss team and failed to even maintain the same level of production as his position, let alone elevate it. It wasn't the Pats defense that lost those last two SBs. Take Peyton off the list...Montana alone is at a level above Brady, IMO.

I cant agree with the notion that Peyton's teams were mediocre. I actually think Peyton has had more talent on the field over his career. The losses to the Giants are nothing to hold against Brady. Those Giants teams had a ton of talent themselves and were playing their best football. Brady didnt play poorly considering the pressure he was under. Those games were close. I find it hard to believe Peyton or any other all-time QB does a whole lot more under that pressure.

I love Peyton but his own personal playoff performances arent all-time great.

  4. Dude Spikes is fine c'mon...considering his childhood he's a stand up guy. Better than almost anyone would be.

Yeah I agree that hes not bad. I read a really great article about his life in espns magazine. I was really commenting on perceived character concerns coming out of college. I think Vontaze has more serious concerns

  5. Im looking for the Bills to establish a running game. Its a tough task to get into a groove running the ball in preseason. I believe this offense as a whole will be alot better go foward. I feel the same way about the Jets too. Neither offense is as bad as things looked.

    Prediction:

    Bills 27 Jets 17

The difference is turnovers and qb pressure. We are finally going to see everything at full throttle

  6. I doubt Dez is embarassed about this. He probably has people telling him that he's showing a new level of dedication to the team by accepting his babysitters. The article even mentions how Jerry Jones thinks that its great that Dez is willing to work on doing the right thing with his babysitters and life coach (jay novacek). Jerry also says its not the strictest hes had to be on a player.

The guy is a loser outside of football.

  7. I agree it was poor judgement on the part of the center to comingle them. But I've seen similarly unwise groupings on the playgrounds of very high end condos, including bullying.I do of course appreciate your added color and shared concern over this. Makes me uncomfortable whenever and where ever I see it.

I just went through the process of choosing a daycare. My wife and I went to 7 or 8 different places before we made our decision. The wide spectrum of quality was apparent right away and it had little to do with location in regards to the average income of the area. Daycare employees dont get paid very much, whether they work in the burbs or inner city.

We chose a place that is 20 minutes in the wrong direction 3 days a week and more money. Ive never even thought twice about it though.

  8.

Has there been a witness for the incident that saw the events transfold? No, and if there were witnesses that saw the event unfold we would know of it even if we did not know all of what they saw.

Zimmerman did not chase Martin down a street after committing a crime. Even if he was looking in car windows and causing "riffraff" it was no illegal. Isn't a life threatening assault on a civilian considered a physical altercation? The exact verbage could vary - but I did not imply nor did I state that one attacked another - merely that there was an altercation.

Again, maybe I have rose colored glasses but I do not just see the problem with racism. I see it as judgements upon each other on all levels. From race, class, education, sex, sexual orientation, etc - we cast judgements. It is unfortunate but it is reality and we will always be this way. Being judgemental, though, is a whole lot different then being racist or intolerant. As a society we are no different then anyone else - flawed at best, but too often we use our rights to propogate the agendas of intolerence.

Whether or not Martin committed a crime prior to the altercation has nothing to do with anything.

The last paragraph is certainly true for some of us. Hatred spreads like a wildfire and various groups love to light those fires every chance they get. Before you know it, normal tolerant people become divided in their thoughts. The Us v.s. Them mentality is an epidemic.

  9. Most pressure is on fitz. I think he gets replaced if we win less than 9 games. I dont think Chan gets fired unless we win 6 or less. Buddy loves him some Chan.

I completely agree. Although, I get the feeling Chan survives a disaster of season.

I think the rest of the team goes into the season with a chip on the shoulder but no added pressure. These players seem to buy into the coaching staff and I think that alleviates some of the pressure on individual performance.

  10. Why does it have to be Rodney King? The situation was entirely different.

King was breaking the law, attacked by officers of the peace, and it was video taped with clear evidence showing the attack.

Trayvon Martin died without witnesses, after breaking no laws before the physical altercation began with a civilian.

Maybe I am in rose colored glasses but if anything this is going to change the country for the better reminding us that there are still racists out there and hopefully we can change that with intollerance of those that judge by race. There is a strong push to support the LGBT community right now, I hope we can embrace all people without singling anyone out.

No witnesses you say? How do you know that no laws were broken? How do you know that "physical altercation with a civilian" wasnt a life threatening assault on a civilian? On the otherhand, we don't know if Zimmerman initiated the physical contact. We don't know schit.

Still, its sad watching people expose their agendas in such a stupid manner. Race baiting and racists from all walks of life emerge and prove that we dont value eachother.

  11. I like all the answers that focus on neutralizing the pass rush with short to intermediate routes. Its really a league wide practice in todays NFL. The rules allow WRs to get off the line so much faster and the smart teams exploit that. Chan Gailey recognizes this and that is why we've seen an uptick in yardage and QB protection. I think most defenses can be exploited with this general plan.

I also believe that play calling is far more important than a general gameplan. NFL teams have playbooks loaded with all different kinds of plays but its the timing that makes the machine go. Even good defenses can get shredded all sorts of different ways. Good players and good playcalling is too much for any defense.

  12. If you think I'm justifying him for being a "kid" you're wrong. I don't feel sorry for him, he needs to grow the fck up for his sake.

I wasnt intending to accuse you of that. I do think that sort of evaluation is common though.
