Yeah, want to see DE Greg Hardy

  2. I think alot rush olb's in the 34 played DE in college and have alot of the same skill sets that Maybin APPEARS to have. IMO if we stay with 43, Maybin better get stronger and learn a couple of counter moves. If we go 34, he might be our rush olb.

  3. Why do so many people think that Maybin will succeed as an OLB? This year we were decimated by injury yet Maybin continued to get 2 to 3 reps a game at DE. Don't you think if the coaching staff thought he would be a successful OLB they would have given him a shot there this past year?

I can't help but feel like Maybin would be a stud as a blitzing OLB, but the minute he needs to drop into coverage I see him getting killed. Can you see him making the play in coverage that was needed when Brady threw either of the two touchdown passes to Ben Watson in that Monday night game?

There is absolutely no chance that that happens in my opinion. I just don't see him being a capable OLB in all parts needed.

IMO, he's either a 43 end or 34 olb. Since we ran 43, he lined up at end. Like many other posters, the more i think about the more i see us running the 34 D!

  4. No, if either tackle is being neutralized, then the offensive tackle is winning the battle. It isn't like the guy is going to block two people anyway, so that really doesn't make much sense. From a run defense standpoint, holding his ground at the line I guess could be considered neutralizing the tackle in an effective way, as long as he can still move laterally to fill gaps, but when rushing the pass, which is what was being discussed, you have to expect a push from the defensive lineman, period. If the line can't create a push, it is not going to be hard for 2 guards and one or two backs to pick up blitzing linebackers. You need defensive lineman who can draw a double team, thereby leaving one or both linebackers with only one blocker to pick them up, thus allowing them to utilize what should be an advantage in speed. As it stands, only Stroud appears to have the ability to consistently draw the double team, and playing him in the middle would be disadvantageous against the run, which btw, was our weakness.

All that being said, I'm not sure why anyone would want to change our defensive scheme at this point. We have a decent line and a great secondary and the d was rock solid against the pass. Also, our rush defense never really got abused until well into the second halves of most games (barring the occasional long run that any team gives up), and that is as much a function of our inept offense not giving them enough plays to rest as any lack of talent. If we stay in a 4-3 scheme, we are about one great LB away from having a very strong overall defense. Then the onus is on the offense to move the ball and keep guys fresh. Bottom line is there is no adjustment that can make the defense successful if we don't start to move the ball consistently, and the thought that our defense is sub par is greatly exaggerated by the continued ineptitude of the offense.

    Base 3-4 defense

"But in the base alignment of a 3-4 defense, a defensive end is in position to prevent the offensive tackle from consistently stepping out and blocking an outside linebacker."

This came from Pat Kirwan, NFL.com. Not trying to argue with anyone here but just think both Stroud(6'6" 310) and Johnson(6'3" 290) have ideal size and ability slide outside in a 34 alignment. I realize they need to be strong at the point of attack and get some push, just don't believe their main job is to rush the passer like 43 ends! Here are some 34 ends and there stats on some pretty good defenses: Jets #1 D- Ellis(6'5" 285) 7sacks, Douglas(6'2" 290) 1.5 sacks; Balt #3 D- Price(6'5" 290) 6.5 sacks, Ngata(6'4" 345) 1.5 sacks; Dallas #9 D- Spears(6'4" 309) 2.5 sacks, Olshansky(6'6" 315) 1.5 sacks. I'm not sure if Williams could put on 10lb and handle NT; might need to find thru draft or FA. Just think there is more talented 34 olb/hybrids(Maybin) then true 43 ends out there. Like to see us switch. I GUESS WE NEED BACKERS TOO!

  5. im not saying its ok to torture and kill animals, im saying of all crimes committed by NFL athletes, this is dam near petty....and he has served his federal mandated punishment...sorry if you guys all feel you are above the constitution, the courts, the law and the government, but they say his debt to society is paid and i more than agree

again though, all of this useless babble detracts from the OP about why it is or isnt a good idea to bring in Vick to play QB for the bills, not whether killing animals is ok, its just that most posters on here are too blinded by the killing of dogs to actual post useful responses

i know that when we trade for vick or sign him if hes cut, me and my kitten will be meeting him at the airport in our matching Vick buffalo number 7's

Answer my question, who on here said it's ok to harm a human being? Also, can you become a police officer, firefighter or join the military with felonies? I personally don't think the NFL should allow a person who comitted a felony back in! Whether they like it or not, they are role models!! You sound like a guy that would go to the airport with your kitten wearing a Vick jersey.

  6. hahaha, exactly...thats what im saying...its quite alrite to kill humans but dont you dare hurt my poodle! get over it peeps...happened, happens alot, he paid his price....

im worrying about a lack of talent on this team, a lack of a true signal caller since 1996, Vick fits a need that I see....and we will not have to pay him 5 mill a season at least for the first

Who on here is saying it's ok to kill or harm humans? Why don't you just come out and say it's ok to torture and kill animals instead of bringing up something so ridiculous!

  7. He's also not remorseful about his crimes as shown by his statements "It's unfortunate this happened to me"...something I've heard him say at least twice the last few months...he's not the victim, he's the one who made victims of children who lost their best friends to that monster...and considering his lack of remorse, he'd do it again if he thought he could get away with it

criminals don't belong in the NFL, period. It's not that hard to follow the law...and I'd wager there's a lot of people out there who could play in the league if we tossed the habitual criminals from the league. Quite frankly, I'm still shocked that Goodell reinstated him after originally being hard on trouble-makers in the league.

    agree!!

  8. Sure he should be in the league because he has paid his debt to society.

    1. I know people that hunt. They basically kill for sport. I just don't believe the fact that they enjoy the taste of deer meat

where they just have to have it. They do it because they enjoy killing. I put these people in the same category as Vick

when it comes to the killing aspect of animals.

    2. What about the lovely animals rights actvist that feels that spaying or neutering your pet is cool because it controls pet

population, but want the death penalty for people that dog fight. If you had a choice to fight a big guy or be castrated

which would you choose. I would fight the big guys myself. I guess they don't feel castration is torture...BS

The problem was the gambling portion if his activities which he has paid the price for.

I love animals but they are not people. I prioritze the crime against any man before crime against animals.

If you don't like Vick thats fine, just don't hide under the guise of loving animals because until Fido and Rex start paying taxes they will not and should not be given the same rights as people.

People are always searching for reasons to hate as opposed to searching for reason to forgive.

Vick as a QB is better than what we have but I felt he needed to look the field better and try to become more of a pure

passer. TE is to afraid to make the 20 yard pass. TE also can not play in bad weather as well. Fitz is the one to keep as a backup between the two. I would like for Brandon to use his market genious on TE to get us a 3rd or 4th rounder for him.

The people you know that hunt: do they hang, drown or electricute the animals they hunt? Do they tape the muzzle of the animal they hunt and stick it in a pit so another animal can train on it? What the hell are you talking about would i rather fight a big guy or be castrated? bad analogy! Yeah, i think he paid his debt to society but don't think he should've been allowed back in the NFL, just like he couldn't be a cop, firefighter or in the military! And as far as being a changed man, I DON'T BUY IT!! Something is wrong with you if you could watch an animal suffer and not be affected! ESPECIALLY A HUMAN BEING(i agree with you on that).

  9. Dog fightin is more popular than you think within impoverished African American communities...and yes Vick was not still a poor black boy when he was committing these atrocities, he was a well paid and respected NFL role model...but he made the critical error of hanging on to too many of his friends from the hood...and they no doubt had a hand in negatively influencing mr vick...i do believe people deserve second chances, and he seems to have turned his life around...he has "I love Jesus" Dungy vouching for him....id be willing to take a long hard look at that talent over our current bum squad of QBs

but if you cant get over the dog killing thing..thats your (and every organization who feels the same way as you) loss

I personally don't care how popular it is , so is taking/selling drugs(by all races)! Not only did he fight dogs, he tortured them and committed felonies. There are professions that forbid felonies: examples police, fire and military. IMO, he shouldn't be in the league!!

  10. Wake up!

The talent evaluators in the NFL, not the fans, nnot me, have said through their actions he's a bust.

Did it ever occur to the Brohm supporters that the only reason they tried to match the offer was because that late in the season they wanted a possible 3rd stringer who knew their system as an insurance policy & nothing more? As long as he was on their practice squad they had that insurance, but not if he left. If they were so high on Brohm, they would have exceeded our offer-they didn't.

I don't have any "Miss Cleo" skills, what I have is the abilty to read. Read what Nix & Gailey said (hint:it's bolded)-Brohm is not a factor in their thinking about next season's QB.

Most people on this forum are not saying Brohm is the answer, just saying it's too early in his career to know. A BUST? come on!

  11. Good thing fans don't make those calls. Nor do they generally have a clue about talent.

If no one wanted him, why did Green Bay counter our offer immediately?

I know this. He will get a look. My guess is with Gaileys tendency to mold an offense around his guys -- I think Brohm has the most upside of all three.

We will see. I know I won't go starting any threads proclaiming my Miss Cleo skills like yourself.

    "AMEN!"

  12. I'm just another arm chair coach/GM/scout etc... Obviously we need to find an answer at QB. I like Brohm's potential and hope we go after Cambell but neither are a sure thing. After watching and being disappointed with Tebow/Pike/Snead, thought maybe LeFevour could be a possibility. I personally just don't see it. I certainly could be wrong but just don't think he has it. Have a chance to see McCoy tonight but i'm more interested in watching McElroy. Watched him a few times this year and was really impressed. He reminds me of Brees. Like i said, i could be totally wrong, but check him out and see what you think! Blast away!

  13. freinds?....try, best friends....they also are a perfect match professionaly.....look for the second Father/Son combo to hook up with Marty & Brian (shanahans in wash). Marty will come out of retirement for 2-3 years with a guarantee that his son takes over after him. All these other interviews are window dressing (just my opinion). btw, one of those very reliable ESPN experts (cough) named mort says Marty is ready.

    I AGREE!
