I am starting to wonder when Donte will make a big play. Don't get me wrong, the guy is very solid and a great locker room guy. I just thought after his interception of Tom Brady in his first game that we might have an Ed Reed. Since that interception however, he has not made a big play.

The bills really need a a de that can apply pressure on the qb. The problem however, is that the good pass rushers go real early in the draft. I think the bills will be in a good position to draft an outside lb or a strong safety, assuming Whinter remains at free safety.

I think Trent Edwards will have to be signed sooner, as opposed to later. The difference between him and players like Rivers, is that Rivers signed for a large rookie contract due to his draft position. Edwards is making very little, and could demand more. If he does, the bills will have no option other than showing him the money.

The Dolphins have played really good at home, so the spread should not be viewed as an insult. This game will be a dog fight, let's just hope the bills win. I am worried more about this week's Dolphins game than next week's Jets game.

For the last several years it has appeared the Patrots were the best organization football. They seemed to draft well, pick up the right free agents, and had great coaching. This year however, they have looked very avarage. Was this franchise just lucky to stumble on Brady in the 6th, or are they really a top flight organization?

I look at it this way, a couple of our 1st round picks COULD HAVE been 2nd round picks (Losman, McCargo). Sure you hear rumors that someone would have picked them early if we had not moved up, but who cares, draft the best guy available.
I hate the latter half of the first round. I'd pick in the second or third round twice instead of having a pick lower than #15 in the first round. Teams start to get nutty and start reaching then.
I think you are right on the money. The talent in the draft changges from year to year, so sometimes a great prospect can be found late in the first. Many times however, the players drafted in the 2nd and 3rd have a similar grades to those drafted at the end of the first. More picks equals more chances of hitting on a good player. Even as good as Poz has been, David Harris would have been great with our pick in the 2nd two years ago. So more times than not, a 2nd a 3rd is better than late 1st.

Folks around the league regard him as a good young player. A star? Hardly.
Buffalo has done a good jobs of drafting a plethora of solid starters, but has failed to draft any stars. What drafted player on our roster is among the top 5 at their position. So the bills draft grade under the Levy/Brandon adminstration is a solid B. This team needs a more play makers. At this point, Evans is the only one I see.

The problem with the line is Jason Peters's holdout and the middle of the line. Last year, the bills were able to give Walker help on passing plays, because Peters could hold off the best pass rushers in the league by himself. This year, Peters has struggled, so there has been a lot more pressure on the qb. As for the run blocking, Fowler and Butler are not great run blockers. Fowler is a very smart player who makes good calls on the line, but he can't put a helmet on a helmet and take the tackle out of the play. In fact, many times the tackle is able to blow right by him, disrupting the play in the backfield. I fear this problem will get worse instead of better, with the 3-4 teams in the AFC east all having strong nose tackles. Butler is a poor fit at rg. Ross Tucker, called rg the 2nd hardest position on the line. Butler is not up to the task. He has the talent to be a good backup at the tackle position, but lacks the push in the running game. Of Butler and Fowler, Butler is here to stay. The team has invested a lot of money in him, and believe he will get better. As bills fans, we have to hope for the best. Fowler however, will be replaced. In any other division in football, he would be fine. In the AFC east, the bills need a stronger center to hold off Jenkins and Wilfolk. The bills line will improve however, once Peters gets back into playing shape. When it is all said and done, I believe the bills line will be considered average.

The extra fourth gives the bill some ammunition to trade up. If the stand pat, they will take the best athlete available. The bills have had good luck in the 4th round and 5th, with McGee, Butler, Williams, and Simpson being drafted. Let's hope for the best.

The 2006 draft will go down as a turning point in the history of the organization. There were not any stars drafted, but to pick up so many quality starters in one year is a great accomplishment. The only complaints that could be me made is the drafting of McCargo, and failing to trade down form 8. Had the bills accepted Denver's trade offer (15th overall, 36th overall, and a fouth), we could have added a couple quality players and still had Whitner.

McCargo probably would have fell to Buffalo in the second round, so the only difference is there would have been one more player on the roster.

While the McCargo trade was good for the Buffalo Bills, it does leave the team very thin at dt. Stroud, Williams, and Johnson are a solid trio, but if one of them becomes hurt the bills will be in big trouble. I hope McCargo's replacement can be a decent rotational guy. Of course McCargo did not play at a high level himself.

Getting a fourth round pick for McCargo is a blessing. The bills are a hard working blue collar team. McCargo had talent, but his work ethic had to make him an outcast in the locker room. The shocking part of the trade was the compensation. The bills did very well to get a fourth. It is better to admit to your mistake, and make the best of the situation, than hold out hope that McCargo will finally play like a probowler.

I played on an Akron team that used to get pummeled by both teams. I can remember wishing we had him as our coach...
He is a great coach. 23-7 against Medina is an accomplishment, because Medina has had some good teams. Go Mustangs.

KC's gm has a reputation of being difficult to trade with. He has turned down several trade opportunities in the past that could have helped his team, because the trade was equal instead of a clear victory for him. I do not think Gonzalez will be traded. I'm going to guess that he would not be traded for less than a 2nd round pick, and no team is going to give up that for Gonzalez at this stage of his career.

Want to take me up on a bet that's it's not true? Evans would not have commanded $9/mil a year in the open market with TJ and Williams competing for #1s. Prices go up typically when there is a team that NEEDS a player, but not when there are several options.
I think the market would absorb all 3. Did you see the contracts that Walker and Berrian received? I could see the Eagles, Dolphins, Patriots, Ravens, Titans, Eagles, etc. etc. all going after a wr like Evans, TJ, and Williams.

Whenever a player resigns, the contract always looks too lucrative. Toward the middle of the contract however, many players regret signing such a long term deal. The reason for this is the inflation of the salary cap. The salary cap used to be a big problem for most nfl teams. In recent times however, the number goes up so much, only Washington feels the pain. At this moment Evan contract is eye opening. By this time next year, it will seem fair. In two year Evan's deal will look like a bargain.

KC will be looking for draft picks, not JP. They are in the process of rebuilding, and are trying to accumlate as many picks as possible. They already have a young qb they need access, in Croyle. If he does not work out, they will draft a qb next year. As for us, this is not the year to mortgage the future for immediate gain. The 2009 and 2010 seasons will be our best shot at making a long playoff run. Will Gonzalez be an elite player at the age of 33 and 34? Probably not. This season is important. The bills have a great shot of winning the division. The next two season however, could be great.

The Center position is the one area the Bills need to improve at. Fowler has his strengths as a player. For one, he is a very smart player who makes good calls on the line. He is also quick, allowing him to get to the second level to block the opponents lbs. The problem with Fowler however, is he stuggles when he is asked to block DTs on his own. In the AFC east, this is a big problem. All 3 division rivals utilize the 3-4 on most downs, meaning Fowler will always have a big tough DT across from him. The question is what do the Bills do about it. They are not going to replace Fowler at this stage of the game. They need to devise blocking schemes to give Fowler a little help. If this is done, I could see our offense having major problems in our divisional games.

The Bills have a good shot of beating San Diego. While San Diego has more talent from top to bottom, they have several flaws that the Bills can attack. To begin with, their pass rush has been very poor. Assuming Edwards is healthy, he should be able to pick apart the Chargers's defense. San Diego has also struggled running the ball and their passing game has slowed down with Chambers and Gates recovering from injury. The Bills greatest advantage however, is the cross-counrty the Chargers will have to make. West coast teams never play well on the East coast. Expecially when the game is a 1:00. I think the game is a coin flip.

The Bills should not trade for Gonzalez. Currently Buffalo is on the rise, but this is not the season to mortgage the future for short term gain. Next season and beyond the Bills will have the talent and experience to make a deep playoff run. This season the Bills are playing for the playoffs, but will not contend for the super bowl. Let's face it, the KC would only be interested in draft picks. The Bills should save their picks and continue to add good young talent to the roster. This is essential for maintaining a winning team. Royal will have to do for now.

Pat Kirwain mentioned on nfl radio that the bills are a team that tries to out execute their opponents, not out gameplan them. I think he is right on they money. Buffalo on a week to week basis is consistant in what it does on both sides of the ball. The down side of this approach is that is it easy to prepare for them. The advantage is the Bills do not make many mistakes, Sunday being the exception. I think on Sunday the bills were outcoached. Warner attacked our cover two with short to mid range passes. They also avoided our blitzes with well timed runs and screens. On defense, they played like most teams do with the lead, they put pressure on Losman. Overall however, I think the bills are a well coached team.

I agree with your point to a certain extent. Some players take longer to develop than others. I do think however, that there is reason for concern. Many other wrs and cbs taken after Hardy and McKelvin have looked very good. In addition, the previous two drafts classes showed they were nfl ready a lot faster than this years group.
