Some word association:  mandates; cancel culture ; sheeple; shaming; judging; myths; straw man argument;biased;rose colored glasses;homer;  dark tetrad; hypocritical.  Just had some words come to mind after reading “ I’M NOT CALLING OUT THE CRITICAL OR HYPERCRTICAL FANS”.  HMMM, REALLY?  Fans are who ever they chose to be regarding a team or sport. If only your criteria are THE CRITERIA TO BE A FAN, there are some great vacation spots to consider ; North KOREA, CHINA, Russia ; and there are so many more like them , great places filled with great fans of their great leaders who are  masters in thought control and they are all about freedom of choosing your lifestyle and happiness!

You are probably the GREATEST BILLS FAN EVER, so when the off season comes around , take a well deserved break and take in some cultures that ,,,well,,somehow make me feel you might enjoy so much you might stay awhile after explaining how to be the loyalist fan ever!  But at least you weren’t being critical and that’s really being an open minded fan.  ( last word association; oxymoron).   It is a great thing to be the perfect fan because that determines so much about how your team plays !  Hmm,,,5-5 must mean,,,,lol.

It's simple.  If you can't be bothered to watch the games your not much of a fan.  That's my point.  Do you disagree with that?

Great to hear. I plan to do so. I just hope the Bills are in it until the end of the year. It will be kinda weird to post them when we don't have a shot lol

Might need them even more if thats the case!

This might turn into an Old Man Yells at Cloud rant, but damn do I miss how games used to be managed and broadcast. And it revolved primarily around just two things:

    1) There were fewer flags on the field and when there was one, the head official announced it while they walked it off and on to the next play we went.

Now every time we see a flag we have to first have a 5 person group therapy session among officials, maybe some discussion with one of the coaches justifying why the call was made, notification for the home crowd and then after a minute or two another announcement for the viewing audience and then maybe a couple extra commercials while they communicate with the home office regarding the minutiae of whether a guy caught the ball. Referees used to generally try to stay invisible but now the league and networks have decided that they can use them to create some pointless, stupid drama to attract casual fans while most of us who just want to watch some ball have to sit through a ridiculous overdrawn process to manufacture drama that has nothing to do with the actual game.

    2) They used to show replays after almost every snap and would often show a couple from two different cameras so you could see what had happened on the play. What do we get now? We get an inevitable closeup of some guys face walking back to the huddle, or a shot of a coach on the sideline talking into his headset, or maybe if we're really lucky a promo for some vapid, idiotic television show that will be off the air in a year just so they have an excuse to advertise their own network that I'm already watching. I want to see a replay to confirm who pulled and made that sweet block at the second level, or to check out where the Free was at the snap and whether he was late because of the design or because he's slow. Instead, I get to stare up Joe Burrow's nostrils for 15 seconds while some stiff in the booth tries to convince me what an interesting guy he is and get me engaged on a personal, emotional level when I really don't give a shlt what time he goes to bed.

It all comes back to the fake manufactured drama that the networks are trying to sell that has nothing with the game, and because they're so focused on that nonsense they're missing a ton of actual drama that takes place on the field. I turned the TV on to watch guys play football, not to watch referee performance art and Jersey f'ing Shore.

Little off topic, but interesting anyways - there's a nfl channel on pluto that was showing the jets/bills game from the opener in 2001 (Bledsoes first game I believe) on September 11th of this year, same day as our opener vs the jets. I didn't remember the game at the time, but this is the game that went to overtime and the jets returned the kick to win in overtime. Then, that night I watch the bills lose to the jets in overtime to a punt return for a td. What a terrible day. Just wanted to get that off my chest 😅

Yeah, i think it was Morton?  It was actuallly his second of the game too.

Bledsoe had like a 4th and 20 from the 30 yeard line in the final seconds and tossed a touchdown to send it to OT.  I was supposed to go to that one with my dad and his friends but got food poisoning the day before. GREAT weekend.  Heartbreak and vomit.

There was a point in the 2000’s where the Bills lost to Jax(Ernest Wilford), Denver(Elam FG) or the Jets(KO return, name escapes me) either on the last play of the game or close to it.  I believe all 3 were home openers, or at least September games.

    All heartbreakers. 😞

Ugh. I remember all 3.  Was at the Jax game....The Denver run on the field FG last Monday reminded me of that Elam game.  Much the same ending except the Broncos didn't plan for a run on the first time and just barley got the game winning kick off.

  5. Is that it's becoming clear who the fair weather fans are.  It's amazing how many posts I am reading saying things along the lines of "If I watch the game it will be out of morbid interest" or "I'm not bothered by losses anymore, I can now skip watching and do other hobbies on Sundays"

Does our current situation stink?  yes.  Do things need to be done better by the organization? yes.  But to say you're not going to bother watching or don't care on a message board specifically created for talking about the Bills?  that seems ridiculous to me.  Why are you even on here then?  What can you hope to contribute to the board if you in fact do not watch the games.

I was here for the 80's, I was here for the drought, I was here for our recent success and I will be here until the end.  Not just when it feels good to say my team is great.

I get the negativity and the complaining.  This forum provides a great place to vent frustrations, both valid and ridiculous.  It's therapeutic.  Things are not rosy at all right now and we have a right to demand more.  I'm not calling out the critical or hyper critical fans.  It's the ones who are saying  "I'm not going to watch" or "my weekends are free now" why bother posting in the first place?  If you don't even watch your opinions are thus rendered useless.

When I was sure we were going to win the Super Bowl after smoking the Rams and Titans to begin last season I thought how I would be disgusted by those "Bills fans" that wore the colors but couldn't tell you what position Dawson Knox played or who was in the AFC east.  I feel those people are much in the same as those saying they are "done watching" or "have better things to do".  To me that "fan" simply does not care enough to be considered true Mafia.  You either celebrate AND suffer with us or you are not one of us

Sorry for the rant.  Go Bills

    9-8 you mean.

Someone maybe, as you imply ,not likely sometwo.  LOL

As you say, the odds of us getting a tiebreaker are closer to zero for us than for any other team, besides of course the Raiders, which we beat.  They have a tough schedule.

Right now the entire AFCN is in the picture, ironically Cincy's currently the odd team out with Burrow's varying injuries.  Baltimore's good and would have to completely collapse to not make it, but Pitt and Cleveland both have relatively easy schedules.  Of the four 6-3 teams, they all have to go only 4-4 to hit 10 wins, obviously.

Houston has 8 games left with a relatively easy schedule, 5-3 gets them to 10-7.   Indy at 5-5 also has a relatively easy schedule left.

First things first.  Brady's getting thrown to the wolves here.  In our last three games vs. the Jets we've averaged 17.7 Points, 1-2/3 TDs, 17.3 1st-Downs, 177 Passing Yards, 288 Total Yards, and have had only 1 Passing TD in all three games.

Any talk of playoff all but officially ends if we lose this game.  Saleh and the Jets appear to have our number.   If I watch the game it's going to be purely out of sheer morbid interest.

If nothing else, this recent frustration has made it clear who the fair weather fans are.  I was here for the Super Bowls, I was here for the drought, I was here for our recent success and I'll be here to the end.  I've never watched the Bills out of "morbid interest" but rather because they are my favorite team, not just a team I like to watch when it makes me feel good to say I root for a winner.
