  1. I don't claim to be a 3-4 expert by any means. However, it sounds odd to me that a guy can only fall into a 25 pound window to be effective. I hear all this of converting linemen to linebackers. Just because the Outside Linebacker gets more sacks than the end doesn't mean that a guy that got most of the sacks before needs to move to that position. So what if he doesn't get as many sacks? Besides, an outside linebacker has many other duties besides rushing the passer like covering RBs and TEs and dropping back in coverage etc. I wonder if Aaron's skills really translate to that. Seems I've seen him get burned dropping back in coverage.

My opinion is to put him at end. He weighs 243. Can't he overcome being 32 lbs lighter than you think he needs to be with skill and veteran cunning? I hope he comes back tough wherever they want to put him.

Schobel was more like 260 last year. He has been as big as 290 in the offseason.

  2. Agree that there are (at least) two types of football fast that are relevant for evaluation of a player like Spiller. Can he flat outrun people? I don't expect him to be caught from behind once he is in the open field.

But secondly, the question is how long does it take him to reach full speed. My understanding is that he is one of these guys, like Gale Sayers, who needs only 1 - 1 1/2 strides to top out. He's gonna be great!

Starry, it takes a good olympic starter 30 yards to top out. But more to your point, I think he is a very good starter.

  3. Yes SanJose, these times show that he is quicker than fast. He has probably put on a few pounds since these track times. Realistically, nobody in the NFL will make up more than a yard on him if he breaks out on a kick return or long run. I think that he may be faster, but is not quite as agile, flexible, or smart as Barry Sanders.

  4. So, in other words, they wont be playing football out there. The NFL becomes more officious every year. The rules are harder to interpret and further from the game. I enjoy the games less now than in past years.

The muffed fair catch rule is completely absurd. We may as well make the players wear big, visible, pink thongs.
