Nah, if you don't love to eat, you can't be Buffalo. Food, the Bills, pray God, the Sabres, it's what we do.

Addendum, and if you listen to the conversation in context, the fella is very focused and bright. This is not someone who is indulgent, but actually pretty wise about allowing a small amount of comfort food into a diet that is not foolish. Not taking care of himself and getting out-of-shape is not going to be one of his vices.

    I don't pray, but sure

Some jackass asked TG to "go tell [ESPN personality] to STFU!".  The other CHUDS joined in.  That was his last day.

Wawrow was less and less active but there was one final thread where JW defended himself and his profession against a bunch of dudes who insisted he had no inside information or access to the team and that better information was shared more quickly on Twitter.  Much like TG, he said he no longer gets any enjoyment out of participating on the board.

    Sounds about right

Yes, they both used to post here and Tim Graham hasn't for years, while John Wawow changed his user name to @Delete This Account

Yeah, I remember Tim Graham was positing in here right around when I joined iirc, which had to have been somewhere between 2007-2009 I would think (I lurked for a whiiiillle before actually signing up)

It really might have been Jerry Sullivan and seven burner accounts that forced Graham out, based on the time frame... I'm only mostly kidding!

Not sure. I try to be cordial. But damn, why not advise TBD/BBMB folks of the status? I’m sure we’ll get more details.

They definitely were both on here posting for a bit at separate times until I would imagine Jerry Sullivan's seven burner accounts called them out for not sharing details that would have burned their sources or something.

I can't remember all the specifics, felt silly, especially as they seemed pretty engaged.

If fans discussing the team and their opinions on the players, coaches and GM’s holds no interest in you, why come to TBD at all?

It can’t be to debate PSL’s. After all, the Pegula business people know best.

Is it to look at photo renderings of the new stadium?

There's a difference between people having their own opinion and the swirling negative group think of Deppie from Depew and Frank on a cell

I get scared whenever we pick a defensive tackle in the 1st 3 rounds. Marcell Dareus, Torell Troup, John McCargo. All huge busts

Um, definitely remove Dareus from that list... dude deservingly got bank on a second contract and then coasted...he was gearing up to be a generational talent.

It's funny, people specifically calling Dareus a bust, while complaining about this Bills leadership drafting players who "love ball" even if there are other players who maybe measure better (not saying you are that person)

We've all thought about it, so how many passes do you think you could complete in an NFL game?  For the sake of argument, let's say the pass must travel pass the line of scrimmage, so none of this jet sweep just give a touch pass to your wide receiver type stuff.

Oh *****, I read this after I voted...I thought I could throw a tiny toss to a running back right next to me or something! Wonder if I can change my vote! Lol, every cb taking away the short stuff and even though I can throw a football decently far, I'll get destroyed by a blitz or just the rush and not get up... it would be awful

Hopefully not too aggressive. Hard to shake the ghosts of Sammy Watkins from the memory banks, but it feels like that same situation. The draft is loaded with WR potential, and Whaley wanted to get the cream of that crop… then Davante Adams goes in the second round.

Point is, in a deep class I’d rather fire 2, even 3 bullets trying to find the Davante Adams, Aj Brown, DK Metcalf, or even Justin Jefferson in the late 1st, rather than risk the farm and hope Nabers or whoever is more Jamar Chase than Sammy “Can’t Miss, Generational Talent” Watkins.

To be fair I do think it was injuries largely with Watkins... which is a huge risk in the nfl obviously.

He also turned out to have some pretty let's just say interesting ideas on things iirc... kinda wonder if he brought any of that into his injury rehab?

Gonna push back a little. A little better than average qb (if you don’t have one) is worth ten times more than an elite receiver/DE/CB/LT. It’s just such a far more important position, and it’s not even arguable. Hence you might want to factor that into your grades.

You can find a bit better than average qb play in free agency and through trades...Baker Mayfield for example...using a top five pick on a mid first or lower rated qb is bad use of draft value...especially when those players are going to likely bad teams and situations and their flaws will be magnified, which gunner points out in several of his ratings as a concern.

If you want to argue trading out of the very top of a weak qb draft to get more picks to help you get up the next chance you have where there are a number of elite qb prospects, assuming you can find people to give you value for the pick without there being an elite qb prospect, sure...reaching for any position, especially qb to get a slightly better than average prospect...and then saying there's no argument... I'm not with you on that one, but you're welcome to your opinion obviously.

The worst thing to have is a mid-tier rookie qb that you don't know if you should re-sign or let walk...look at Tannehil with the Dolphins, shoot, look at Tua now who has had trouble in the cold and wind late in the season. Look at Dak Prescott and his contract...some of those guys are well above slightly above average...I just don't think you ever reach for a player and seeing elite ceiling due to athleticism and coachability isn't reaching, that's factored into the ratings...some people might have a higher risk tolerance than others...EJ Manuel was a bad pick...JP Losman was a very good pick who went to a very bad situation sadly...we've seen examples of two of those situations play out in Buffalo...don't reach for a qb or any player based on need

I don't push Quarterbacks up the board. I grade them the way I grade other premium positions.

I think they all go round 1 or early round 2. But that doesn't mean they are all worth that.

There's a reason that a general manager on a short leash and/or feeling pressure to make immediate impact is the most dangerous thing in sports.

Also curious if we'll see any trades out of the top of the draft.

I think if they cut him, they save around 5 mil next year.

i could be wrong, but Im pretty sure I heard that somewhere

That would free up space for 2026 and 2027 then because the guarenteed money would accelerate into 2025 if they cut him at the end of 2024...there is a path to making a big contract work.

Like I guess the question is really this...how many big contracts do you expect the bills to have going forward? Diggs is off the books next year and I expect Von to be off the books fully in 2026...I understand getting younger and all that, but it's hard finding elite value players in FA...and I mean hopefully they hit on one in the draft, but even that is a crap shoot and having more picks than less picks is the way to go there, but maybe it's not about finding stars in the draft other than obviously that's the hope, but pieces that fit your roster development player/contract type category needs and can be better than the slot you drafted them in.

As of right now they have just under $6m in 2025 cap space.

What's Von Miller's salary vs dead cap if cut after this season? That was always going to be a three year deal basically right?

I'm assuming most of the incentives they built into his reworked deal were the not likely to be achieved since he had such a down year... so that will eat into the 2025 cap a bit if he does hopefully hit all of them, but still I think any cap numbers for 2025 should be probably talked about as if Miller is cut before the new league year starts...Knox too maybe, but my hope is he had a down year because of the wrist

With what cap are we signing him to a monster contract to?

Thats my point about those that suggest Aiyuk or Higgins.

    Money wise it’s not happening

They have cap space next year and will get more after June 1st for this year, I would imagine they could make something work with a back loaded deal in terms of salary and void years and then restructure next year so it's not so back loaded... maybe, I'm not sure how it works

The sports "Media" is already beginning their "analysis" that the Bills are done in 2024.  The Athletic (a NYT company) has an article today by the Jets beat writer about how the Jets have the most talented roster in the AFC East (their 80 year old QB not withstanding) and we all know how objective the NYT is.

    https://theathletic.com/5388899/2024/04/04/jets-best-afc-east-roster-diggs-trade/

How much are we really going to miss any of the players released, traded or not re-signed this off-season?

    Wide Receivers

Let's start with the elephant in the room.  The Bills moved on from both veteran boundary receivers including "superstar" Stefon Diggs.  Those two accounted for 2349 receiving yards last season and 15 TDs.  However, Davis caught only 56% of his targets and after week 6 Diggs caught only 61% of his opportunities.  In fact, Diggs, after week 6, was on pace to only put up 830 yards (on 145 targets) in a full season.  That would have put him 25 in NFL.  He also was clearly no longer a fit in a Joe Brady offense.

On the other hand Kincaid and Shakir flourished after week 6.  Kincaid was inactive in week 6, but over the next 13 weeks (including the playoffs) his usage increased and he paced for 860 yards over a 17 week season.  His usage in his second season should increase further with Diggs gone.  Shakir's game also changed after week 6.  In the first 6 weeks last season, Shakir averaged less than 1 target per game.  1 target!  After week six, Shakir was on pace for 845 yards (on only 68 targets).

I also researched how the average WR drafted from 20-40 over the last 5 years produced in his rookie season.  The average was about 660 yards.  There were some stars like Jefferson, Tee Higgins, and Jordan Addison and some duds, but for the most part most were solid to good.  I'm confident that Beane & Co will find someone in the draft to help the Bills stretch the field with their 1st pick, something we didn't have last season.

In addition we added proven slot receiver Curtis Samuel who should flourish in Brady's offense and we aren't going to miss the departed Harty or Sherfield at all.

    Defensive Line

Are we really going to miss Phillips, Lawson, Ford or Settle? No didn't think so.  That leaves Leonard Floyd.  No BS, we are going to miss him.  The hope here is that Miller can capture at least some of his old form (he did look better in the playoffs) and that he and Epenesa can be effective enough to allow Rousseau to go back to his natural position and make up for the loss of Floyd.  My hope is that they draft a edge rusher in the 2nd rd to help make up for the loss.

    Offensive line

Out with Bates and Morse.  Considering Bates played all of 35 snaps, I don't think he'll be missed.  Morse on the other hand has been the Bills center for the last 5 years and has done a very good job, but at 32 it is a reasonable question to ask how much he has left in the tank.  Beane solution is moving McGovern to center and creating a competition for the guard spot to returnee David Edwards (148 snaps last season - the most by a Bills backup OL) and presumably veteran La'el Collins. Collins has started 86 of 89 career games as a rt, but missed last season with injuries.

    Running back

Lat Murray, Hines and Harris are gone.  They won't be missed.  Cook became a star last season. Ty Johnson also returns and was very effective last season in limited reps.  The Bills will likely add another back at some point

    Safety

Out with Hyde and Poyer and in with Mike Edwards and Rapp becomes a starter.  This is a slight downgrade based on last year's grades, but it was time to move on from Hyde and Poyer.

    Corners and Linebackers

White and Dodson are the big name departures, but given White's injury history and the return to health of pro bower Matt Milano, the play of Taron Johnson, Douglas, Benard and Benford, I don't think we'll miss either player.

On paper the Bills are slightly downgraded.  We have fair questions at WR, OL, DL and safety.  However, I'm not worried about the wide receivers.  To me, removing DIggs and Davis has opened the opportunity for Allen to longer have to worry about Diggs getting targets.  He can now focus solely on who is open.  At safety, the declines in Poyer and Hyde were very noticeable and Rapp and Edwards should give us at least when the vets did.   I'm also not worried about the OL.  Torrence and Brown should continue to improve and McGovern proved he has a very capable interior lineman last season.  The only loss the really worries me is Floyd.

Despite the downgrades on paper, I can see the Bills actually improving next season.  I think the offense will be better and more consistent.  Besides Allen and Dawkins, the heart of the offense are all young players in Brown, Torrence, Shakir, Kincaid and Cook who should continue to improve.

On defense it's much the same story.  Oliver, Milano and T Johnson are the core, but they received a significant lift from improving kids Benford, Benard, and Rousseau.

Why is it relevant that it's owned by the NYT?

  16. 5 hours ago, Bill from NYC said:

We had the #8 pick in rounds 1 & 2, and the 5th and 8th pics in round 3. With these four premium picks we wound up with 3 players: S Whitner, DT McCargo, and DB Youboty. With 4 picks!!!  In round 4, we drafted Ko Simpson. All this on a team with no quarterback and a pi$$ poor offensive line.

In all sincerity, everyone is entitled to their opinion on this and all other issues. That said, I'm sorry; how you could think that this was a good, or even half decent draft for the Bills is beyond any level of comprehension of which I am capable.

    Peace!

    Absolutely given that context, woof.

Is it possible that the Whitner pick was similar to the Preston Brown pick, where the game changed and had he been picked 5-10 years earlier he would have been much better (I think Preston Brown is the brusing MLB that was on the Bills while Kuechly and others were changing the position)

One of my biggest takeaways from that fiasco was, how bad was Haack punting in practice that you let Martin punt injured? AND why did you then bring Haack back after the playoffs?

Wasn't a big reason for that that you could only bring up two players per game from the practice squad and they had injuries at other positions?

I'd argue your punter playing against a top three defense in the cold is extremely important, but I also trust they understood the give and take with that decision and made it properly based on their calculations... that said, Martin, like Davis in the AFC champ game a bit back, was a huge liability.
